Saturday, Saturday, Saturday....is Footie Day!
A good Saturday morning to all of you in LOB land. We've got a smashing day of footer ahead of us. I've been looking forward all week to the early one - second place Citeh against league leaders Leicester at the Etihad. That's followed sharply at 10am by the full slate of Premiership and Championship matches including Leeds v. Forest. Southampton v. West Ham round us off at 12:30. Join me for the usual LOB banter this morning.
200 Comments:
The big news out of Blightly this Saturday is that United and Jose Mourinho have opened up talks. Oh dear....
Good morning mate. I just heard the news. Not pleased whatsoever!
Leicester continue to be fortunate with their players' fitness. The spine of the side - Kasper, Morgan, Drinkwater, Mahrez and Vardy - are all fit and ready to go.
Morning, MUR - how are you, mate? Had a good week?
I'm doing okay. It was a very chaotic week with the usual nonsense , but at a higher frequency than normal. How about you?
The teams coming out at the Etihad now:
Manchester City: Hart, Zabaleta, Otamendi, Demichelis, Kolarov, Fernandinho, Delph, Silva, Toure, Sterling, Aguero.
Subs: Caballero, Clichy, Celina, Iheanacho, Garcia, Sagna, Fernando.
Leicester City: Schmeichel, Simpson, Morgan, Huth, Fuchs, Mahrez, Drinkwater, Kante, Albrighton, Okazaki, Vardy.
Subs: King, Gray, Ulloa, Dyer, Wasilewski, Chilwell, Schwarzer.
Referee: Anthony Taylor (Cheshire).
Much the same, mate. The first few weeks of the semester have been bloody frantic.
It's been that way at work, but at home too, so some days are exhausting. It's the time of the year plus the teenage issues.
I'm hoping for a tasty Citeh win this morning, with a hat-trick from my GBB boys. I need Leicester and Vardy off the top of the charts.
They're off from a rainy Etihad!
And we're away at the Etihad - I'm hoping for goals, goals, goals.
I will be leaving at halftime since my number sense students have a meet today. I may be back for the second half of the late one.
Hey Boys
Just came downstairs fo kick off
Good start for the Foxes
On my phone btw
Mahrez wins a useful free kick out wide left after he's fouled by Kolarov.
Hart punches away a cross from Albrighton that should have been caught then Kolorov fouls Mayherez about a foot outside the box.
Morning, UWS - great to have you on board.
GOAL! Goodness sakes, Leicester are in front! Robert Huth has bundled it over the line from the free kick.
Yes!!!!
Leicester take the lead!!!
What an amazing team
GOAL !!! ROBERT HUTH PUTS THE FOXES ION THE LEAD FROM SOMETHING OFF THE TRAINING GROUND . THE FREE KICK WAS CURLED IN AND HUTH GOT FREE AND VOLLEYED IN , UNMARKED IN THE SIX YARD BOX
How on earth do you allow Huth to get free at a set piece - he's such a threat! Too easy for the Foxes.
Good morning UWS. Great to have you on board. How have you been?
Konte tackles Yaya and runs half the length of the pitch until he slips . tThen the wet Drinkwater fouls Aguero
Leicester are taking it to Citeh again until Kante falls. They really are an amazing side that are enlivening this Premiership season.
If I had any hope of United winning the league , that goal would be bad news
There are several Foxes players from the MUFC Academy who would love to win here today
Oh - nice slide rule pass from Silva to Sterling. Just too long. Collected by Kasper.
Kapser does well to rush out and slide to gather the ball off a pass from Silva intended for Sterling
Bloody hell - Aguero is hobbling now as Drinkwater knobbled him.
A win for the Foxes at the Em in the wee hours next Sunday will help United up to fourth as will a United win today
Oh - Vardy was in there from an Albrighton pass. Hart did well to snuff it out and then Otamendi prevented Okazaki from getting the rebound.
OPH!!!! A long ball for Vardy and Hart superbly blocks then Otamendi tackles Okazaki as he was about to shoot the rebound. CIteh were caught out there
Any thoughts about the news of Jose Mourinho being in talks with United, UWS? MUR is not so keen - what say you?
That tackle by Drinkwater on Aguero was from the MUFC Academy. The pain will be double.
Zaba wins a corner off of Fuchs after some triclkery
The corner from Silva is headed away
My opinion is basically what I statedf at 7:34 then some
End to end stuff now. Drinkwater finds Mahrez. Hart out there sharply again.
Drinkwater wins a corner off of Hart as he got behind the Citeh defense Huth volleys again off the corner, but didn't get much on it and it was easily cleared.
OH!!!! Jamie Vardy couldn't quite control the ball as he was quadruple teamed.
Kolorov wins a corner off of Simpson as Citeh had a long possession.
The outwinging corner from Kolorov was too well done. Then Silva has a shot deflect inc hes wide off of Wes Morgan
Oh - Silva twists and turns in the box and then just trickles one wide of the mark.
Just had to go to the loo. Matt texted me that Lcity should have gone two up
I guess not. Anthony Taylor says goal kick.
Welcome back. The Foxes should be 3-2 ahead.
Jose wants to get rid of Mata and Hair Bear. I'm okay with shipping off Hair Bear, but not Mata. He only wants to get rid of him because he can't get along with him.
To answer your Jose question
I've never liked him and never wanted him at OT BUT ANYONE IS BETTER THAN LVG
Matt's a prankster. Does he know about The Curse of Nocito?
Naughty by Yaya on Danny Simpson
I think it's a shame that the tradition of having British managers at OT has been broken and that from now on in you're likely to get one hired gun European after another.
Silva was tackled too easily by Drinkwater. He learned that at the MUFC Academy.
Leicester are outplaying Citeh on their own patch!
The Citeh faithful are not happy about it.
I would like one, but there aren't any out there good enough to handle the job. Sad, but it's the reality of the situation.
The fans should be unhappy that some of those players outplaying Citeh are United rejects.
Aguero needs to shut it and not whine about any little bit of contact. If he doesn't like it then go back to La Liga.
I agree about British managers at OT
Oh - Okazaki just inches away from The Foxes second goal. Whew!
OH!!!! OKazaki was inches away from putting the Foxes two up as Vardy sped past Otamendi and played in his striking partner.
I do, but would win United titles. I can't think of any. Who is the next SAF?
Lity close to a second
Vardy has some pace!
Mity should be way down
Mity want a pen
Big shout for a pen - referee gives a foul on the line.
Should be a pen
Lity scored around this spot. Mity can't
Kolarov whips one in and Huth nods it over.
Zaba is fouled inches outside the box . It was on the line , which means it should be a penalty. It's too hard for the ref to tell. The free kick from Kolorov is headed out by Huth for a corner
Head tennis off the corner then Aguero is tackled and the Foxes clear.
There are no British men around
We tried with Moyes
Klopp won't be at the match today
He's in the hospital with appendix
Some fan on Talksport asks if he should be at the match with pain like he asked sturridge to
Exactly. Once there is then I'm all for it. Perhaps Eddie Howe in a few years if he can continue being successful with the Cherries. He's someone for perhaps five years from now.
Nice use of the word "pedantic" by the commentator.
Yaya blasts one over the bar. Difficult chance.
That's a good question. Sturridge should get a sick note though. Also, I think Klopp is trying to say that Sturridge is out too many matches for it to be worth keeping him at Anfield.
High and wide by Yaya to Salford.
I've moved the computer now
Mity starting to get some chances... shame Lity didn't get a few goals
If it stays like this, Spurs could go second!!
United's best shot to catch.. the Arse
Where are Claudio's glasses?
That's what I was thinking . The Foxes could help us in the wee hours on Valentine's Day
If Leicester get a draw today and another against Arsenal next week, we can really start talking about Leicester being true title contenders.
That would be bloody hilarious if the Foxes become Champions on the final day of the season at Chelsea, the team expected to be champions.
Kapser easily saves from Aguero.
Agreed. They will definitely be the real deal.A big un high noon on Valentine's Day at the EM.
All that Citeh possession doesn't mean squat
Kolorov with a shot that lands in Wigan.
That pass from Delph didn't do a good job of representing the LUFC Academy./
Albrighton straight at Hart
Got my SS link going
Getting rid of all those boxes are annoying but it works well
See the United FA Cup match at Shrewsbury is set for Monday night
Morgan goes into the book for a collection of fouls on Kun Aguero.
Wes Morgan is booked for a foul on Aguero, who is doing his best to win an Oscar.
Free kick chance for Mity... useless.. didn't beat the first man
Bloody hopeless...keep it up
I did not. It should be interesting
Mayherez should be player of the year, IMHO!
Agreed, MUR - he's been brilliant.
Silva wins a corner off of Danny Simpson
Back to United
LVG is calling United's last two performances were sparkling
Well, it was against DERBY and STOKE!
Stoke have been good but still it's Stoke
United played faster, went forward, got the ball in the box AND shot the ball but I still wasn't that impressed
Very shaky at the back and could have conceded often
I just hate LVG
Useless corner by Silva but Kante nodded it back in the danger zone. Goal kick in the end. Another wasted chance for Citeh.
Konte with a wayward header and Delph goes down ,trying to win a penalty, but the ref is having none of it.
Lity should not just sit back.. don't let Mity come at you for the last 45+ minutes
I'm just pleased that United are improving. It's a step in the right direction.
I here Gene Kelly singing
As the half winds down, Leicester fans are singing, "We're going to want he league." They must be on cloud nine.
Fernandinho off for treatment after clashing heads with Kante
United's Board are really annoying me
Are they having talks with Jose because of Pep...just reacting to the blokes across the city?
If they were going to bring him in, why not after Norwich at home, Sotton at home, Stoke away?
Silva wins a corner. Kasper punches away the header from Yaya
Three minutes of stoppage time at the end of this one.
Nobody connects on the pass from Aguero then wide from Kolorov from a narrow angle. Into three minutes of stoppage time
I think you're probably right, UWS. It's a case of keeping up with the Joneses.
Quite a few games in L1 and L2 are off because of waterlogged pitches
Jose should ship off Jones so we can keep up.
If Mity score once, they'll score again
Mity with a corner in the last minute of the half... hold out Lity
That makes sense as it's been raining cats and dogs and the ground cannot absorb much since it's been the wettest winter in Blighty
Cleared... that's it
Lity are half way there to SIX points clear
The Foxes clear the corner. The Foxes aree deservedly one up at the half.
Well, Leicester are half way to an improbable away win at Citeh. Wow! Back for more in a tick.
We are still SNOWLESS
One small storm with a couple inches in December and that is it!
I'm off and hope to be back by the second half of the late one . Cheers!
Cheerio MUR, Im off for walkies with a very impatient dog
We're back on for the second half now.
No changes to either side at the interval.
It's as you were with Leicester attacking right from the off. Good for them!
OH MY GOODNESS! Mahrez with a marvelous goal to put the Foxes 0-2 up!
That's Mahrez's 14th goal of the season. Wow!
Fernando and Ihonatcho both coming on as a response to that goal. Citeh have a lot of work to do.
Oh - Okazaki had a chance for #3 there!
This is a real title bid on now, but The Foxes have to keep Mahrez and Vardy fit.
Oh - fabulous reaction save by Kasper against a header from Fernando!
Huth has nodded home Leicester's third goal! Wow!
Simple corner in and Huth just gets up above everyone else. Phenomenal header.
Citeh seem thoroughly dejected now, as shown in that horrible Raheem Sterling cross. Straight out of play.
Oh - great ball through to Vardy and Hart comes up big again against him.
Okazaki is upended by Zaba who gets a yellow card and Leicester have another chance from a free kick.
Fuchs takes and Huth tries to complete his improbable hat-trick. Cleared out.
David Silva coming off and a Norwegian-Kosovan named Cellina coming on.
Ranieri sees that Mahrez has run out of gas and pulls him.
Oh - Albrighton with yet another great cross over and Okazaki is again just inches away from a touch.
I am back from walkies
WOW
Another corner for Leicester now. They haven't taken their foot off the gas all match.
Wow, indeed. If The Foxes can keep this starting XI fit, they might just be able to do it.
Welcome back, mate - how was the walkies?
Dyer comes on for Albrighton.
This scoreline just doesn't put Lity 6 points ahead but there has been a SIX goal swing....they're now ahead on goal difference too
Bugger... there goes the GD lead
GOAL! Wahay, my GBB gets a consolation goal to take him on to 14 goals, four behind Vardy now. Nice cross in from the new boy and great rising header.
Mity better not do a QPR
Knock it off Lity... don't give them hope!
Oh - Leicester nearly pressed the suicide button. Terrible backpass from Simpson and Aguero was in but took it wide.
Ulloa has some blood on the side of his face and needs some treatment now.
Four minutes of stoppage time. Not really enough to encourage Citeh.
Four added minutes... please don't score again
Oh dear from Fernandinho.
Walkies was chilly but can't complain... i've been becoming a wimp
But no snow on the ground? We've got a few inches of lake effect stuff hanging about.
Please no QPR
NOTHING on the ground
Im bummed Mity got that goal to ruin the GD
Lity better not win this and then have a let down
Of course, they go to the Em next
Thats it
WELL DONE LEICESTER CITY
That's it - Leicester with a really impressive 1-3 win here at the Etihad. They may be the real deal.
I'm going to be doing some errands for the 10 o'clockers... I hope not to miss them all
The Foxes are now six points ahead of City - a true six-pointer win for them today.
Off to wash some dishes - I'll be back for the kick-offs.
Spurs win and they'd be SECOND
I'm back for the 10 o'clockers now. Teams starting to gather in the tunnel.
MOT!!!!!!!
I'm sticking with Spurs v. Watford. Here is the team news:
Lloris; Trippier, Alderweireld, Wimmer, Davies; Dier, Dembele; Lamela, Eriksen, Chadli; Kane. Subs: Walker, Rose, Son, Mason, Vorm, Alli, Carroll.
Gomes; Nyom, Cathcart, Britos, Ake; Abdi, Mario Suarez, Watson, Capoue, Jurado; Ighalo. Subs: Prodl, Behrami, Deeney, Amrabat, Pantilimon, Anya, Holebas.
Referee: Roger East (Wiltshire)
First big chance of the day in the Prem, and Ben Foster makes a terrific save from an Alexandar Mitrovic effort.
First goal of the day, and Romelu Lukaku converts, slamming straight down the middle after keeper Jack Butland had felled Tom Cleverly.
That's Everton into the lead at Stoke and The Chunk up to 16 goals on the season, two behind Vardy.
Swansea are into the lead against Palace. A lovely old strike by Gylfi Sigurdsson, curling a free-kick over the wall and into the net, and Palace’s woes continue.
It's all Spurs here at the Lane. Watford are parking the bus.
Sounds like a spicy one at St James’s - Newcastle could be a few up already, but Craig Gardner has just hit a free-kick that flicked off the wall and was easily saved by Elliott. I might turn over. This one at the Shite Fart is a bore.
Big goal in the Championship, and Derby are going through a rough spell - they’re 1-0 down at Fulham, via an own-goal by new boy Markus Olsson. You can see why they might be nervous given how the last two seemingly inevitable promotion campaigns have gone.
Everton are 0-2 up through a Seamus Coleman goal - a header from 12 yards out.
Mad scramble in the Watford box - not sure how that one didn't go in.
Jonjo Shelvy continues his great start at Newcastle by threading a pass through the Baggies defense to Mitrovic who gladly finishes.
1-0 Newcastle!
Ben Davies should have scored there but it's well saved by Gomez.
What scenes! A terrible mistake by Phillip Wollscheid presents a chance to Aaron Lennon, who takes the ball through and scores for his third game in succession. Mighty impressive stuff from Everton, perhaps living up to their collective talent for the first time in a while.
Everton 0-3 up!
Villa have scored!!!!
Could they get out of this? Joleon Lescott heads home from a free-kick from the right. Presumably they’ll embark on an unlikely title bid next season.
Half time whistles going around the country now.
We're back on at Shite Fart Lane now for the second half. 0-0 and no changes.
Bloody hell - Villa are 2-0 up!
Tottenham putting some pressure on now against Watford. A few minutes ago Harry Kane had a penalty shout turned down, and now Heurelho Gomes has saved a shot from the England forward, patting it down and just getting rid of the rebound too.
GOAL! Trapper finishes off a lovely Tottenham move involving Dembele and Delli Alli.
1-0!
And there it is for Liverpool! After dominating possession - they had 82% in the first half - they’ve finally broken through, James Milner flinging a cross to the back stick where Roberto Firmino waits, free from the troubles of markers, and heads home.
1-0 Reds!
Bugger! We're 0-1 down at Elland Road to a Nelson Oliveira goal . Come on, you Whites!
That should be that at Anfield - Adam Lallana taps home after good work from Firmino to put Liverpool two ahead, and Klopp’s appendix pain is eased a little. Well, sort of. 2-0.
And a goal in the game of the day in the Championship - Burnley have taken a 1-0 lead against Hull, as Sam Vokes gobbles up a rebound after a Joey Barton shot is saved.
It’s the 77th minute at Anfield, and plenty of fans are keeping their promise and leaving in protest against ticket prices at Liverpool. “You greedy bastards, enough is enough,” those who remain/those on their way out sing.
Sunderland have got one back at Anfield through Adam Johnson. Game on?
Late goal at Loftus Road, as Matt Phillips sticks a diving header away to make it QPR 1-0 Ipswich.
We need a last minute goal at Elland Road - come on, you Whites!
Those Liverpool fans who did one at 2-0 are going to have a bit of a shock - it’s 2-2, Jermain Defoe bagging the goal to give Sunderland what will probably be a vital point.
So it looks as if all three bottom clubs will be gaining at least a point - Newcastle and Villa are leading and now Sunderland have earned a last ditch point at Anfield. So, Norwich are the real losers today.
Spurs appear to have gathered another three points and will finish tonight second behind Leicester. What a strange season this has been!
And over to Anfield now. Sunderland are pushing for the win!
I am just back
Wow about Pool... both Sunderland goals came after the fans left at the 77th min mark
Spurs second!
Remember, I said a long time ago... Why not Spurs?
Its over at Anfield... lovely jubbly
sorry mate
Forest won 1-0
My two interests in League 2 had mixed days
Cambridge won 1-0 at home to Daggers
Pompey lost 1-0 at home Orient
Bugger - we've gone down to a home defeat at the hands of Forest. 0-1 there. Ah well, we'll end up on 36 points from 30 matches, with 14 points to get from the remaining 16 matches. Should be doable.
Welcome back, mate. Yeah - rubbish day for us.
