Lakenheath Old Boys

We are all former students at Lakenheath High School and other public schools in East Anglia. We were in school in the 70s and 80s and drank deeply from the well of British culture of those decades - the pints, the telly, and of course the footie!

A Late Saturday Start

A very good morning, gents. I hope that you all enjoyed a bit of a lie in this morning. We've got an extra late start to the Premiership fixtures this morning, courtesy of Daylight Savings Time in the UK and FA Cup 1st Round. The Cup matches are on-going right now along with Wolves getting done over by the Rams at Molineux on BEin. The Premiership gets started at the extra late start time of 11am EST and continue on through the afternoon until 3:30pm. The wives may grumble a bit today, but pull up your easy chair and enjoy with me, won't you?

Teams in the tunnel now at the Etihad.

Of course I'll have an eye on goings-on at Carrow Road. We did a smash and grab operation on the Canaries 10 days ago - I'm hoping we can pull off a similar upset today. But I'd take a point on the road, in all honesty.

Nice tribute for Remembrance Day now.

We're all set to go at the Etihad now - come on, Sergio - let's have a hat-trick or two.

Just a reminder that in the early one in the Championship, Derby held on for a 2-3 win at Molineux.

11:03 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Wow - that was quick. Sam Vokes has fired Burnley into a 1-0 lead against Palace in the second minute. Apparently they didn't acknowledge Remembrance Day at Turf Moor.

11:04 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

All Citeh so far. Ginger Winger played a sumptuous ball in but Aguero was slow to react for once. It's going to be a long, long after for Boro's center backs.

11:10 AM

More havoc caused by De Bruyne and then Navas chipping over a cross that Silva couldn't quite get his leg around.

11:18 AM

They keep coming at Boro - waves of attacks now.

After Tom Heaton’s latest great save, Burnley break and double their lead through Johann Gudmundsson.

In a surprising development, Sunderland AFC are losing a football match. Dan Gosling, who used to play for David Moyes at Everton, chests Bournemouth ahead at the end of an excellent move. Quite why Eddie Howe isn’t nailed on to be England manager for the next decade, I don’t know.

Romance isn’t in the air: Evil MK Dons lead Spennymoor Town through Ben Reeves.

A right old FA Cup 1st Round ding-dong at Princes Park where, after 23 minutes it's Dartford 2 Sutton 3.

11:26 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Bugger - Robbie Brady has fired the Canaries into the lead against the run of play.

11:34 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Oh - best chance of the match. Silva was denied by the keeper and then Aguero was offside as he hit the post with the rebound.

11:35 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Oh - Victor Valdez saves again from David Silva as if he's got a grudge against the Spaniard.

11:38 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Victor Anichebe continues the Everton 2009 theme at the Vitality Stadium, equalising for Sunderland after Dan Gosling’s earlier goal. It was a fierce finish and a deserved equalizer, apparently.

11:39 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Valdez has a nasty gash on his leg now - he'll need some stitches on that.

11:43 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

GOAL! Citeh take the lead and it's that man Sergio Aguero with his 8th goal of the season! Wahay!

11:46 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Slide rule pass from the Ginger Winger, leaving Aguero merely to touch the ball in with his studs.

11:47 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Phraw - a cracking drive from Navas against the upright finishes off the first half. Citeh go in 1-0 up through Aguero's strike.

I'm off to grab a bite.

11:51 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Back on for the second half now. Decent chance for Boro to start the half.

12:08 PM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Oh - Bravo keeps Foresaw out again! He had nothing to do for the first half and now he's earning his corn.

12:10 PM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

YESSSSS!!!!!!!!

We've equalized at Carrow Road. Pontus Jansson with his first goal for the club.

12:21 PM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Citeh have definitely dropped the tempo in this half.

12:27 PM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Reinforcements on the way for them now.

12:27 PM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

YESSSSSS!!!! We're 1-2 up now at Carrow Road. Hang in there, lads!

12:39 PM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Bad news for the Old Bill: Stoke have equalised at the London Stadium after a mistake from the West Ham keeper Adrian.

12:40 PM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

It's that man Chris Wood with his 11th goal of the season.

12:41 PM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

We're within ten minutes of another huge win at Carrow Road. A win today would have us up in the playoff spots for the first time this season. Cor!

12:44 PM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Spennymoor Town, who were 3-0 down and facing a doing after 15 minutes at MK Dons, have pulled it back to 3-2. Come on the non-leaguers.

12:45 PM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Oh - Aguero could have finished things off there. Terrible miss.

Navas off now.

12:47 PM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Bugger! Kyle Lafferty has made it Norwich 2-2 Leeds.

12:49 PM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Oh - the Ginger Winger should have finished it there. Another terrible miss.

And Aguero goes off to a hero's ovation.

12:50 PM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

GOAL! De Roon has leveled it for Boro!!!

What a turnaround.

12:52 PM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

YESSSSS!!!!!

Leeds have gone back in front at Carrow Road! Ronaldo Vieira has slammed in from range to make it 3-2.

12:53 PM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Andros Townsend has hit the post for Crystal Palace, who trail 3-2 at Burnley.

12:54 PM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

It’s all over at Dean Court: Sunderland have won their first match of the season! Victor Anichebe looks utterly shattered; he’s had a stormer. That 947-mile trip home will be very, very sweet for Sunderland’s fans tonight.

12:55 PM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Another brilliant home win for Burnley, who move into the top half of the table. They win 3-2 at Turf Moor.

12:55 PM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Citeh have dropped two more points at the Etihad here. A real chance for their challengers to pick up points on them.

Cheers, mate - amazing win. I cannot believe that we've won another win off the Canaries. We're now up into 6th place with Norwich just ahead of us. Cor!

The Chelsea Pensioners lead the teams out at Chelski. Marvelous atmosphere!

1:25 PM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Chelski have a chance to finish top tonight with a win. But Everton are no mugs this season. This is a classic match. Here are the teams:

Chelsea: Courtois; Azpilicueta, David Luiz, Cahill; Moses, Kanté, Matic, Alonso; Pedro, Costa, Hazard.
Subs: Begovic, Ivanovic, Oscar, Batshuayi, Terry, Chalobah, Aina.

Everton: Stekelenburg; Williams, Jagielka, Funes Mori; Coleman, Barry, Cleverley, Oviedo; Bolasie, Barkley; Lukaku.
Subs: Robles, Deulofeu, Mirallas, Lennon, Valencia, Davies, Holgate.
Referee: Robert Madley (West Yorkshire)

Given his recent form, those Adidas Paul Pogba ads are a bit embarrassing.

1:31 PM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

We're away at the Bridge then. A big big match here.

1:33 PM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Barkley, Bolasie and Lukaku appear to be playing as a fluid front three, hoping to cause the Chelsea back three a few problems.

1:37 PM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

This is a battle of strikers - Costa on eight goals, Lukaku on seven.

1:37 PM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Seamus Coleman left one in there on Diego Costa and the Spanish striker is down for the count. Might have been a straight red.

1:38 PM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

A break in play as Costa, whose shin is bleeding, limps off for treatment, then promptly limps back on.

1:41 PM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Everton have really wound up Diego Costa already. He's whining about everything.

1:43 PM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Bolassie goes into the book, then. First one of the afternoon.

1:45 PM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

68% possession for Chelsea so far, with Everton unable to hold the ball upfield at all.

1:45 PM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

GOAL! Hazard flashes in the opening goal for Chelski!

1:49 PM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Martin Stekenberg is claiming that Pedro got a touch in an offside position there. Probably shouldn't have counted but it's a terrific strike by the Belgian.

1-0!

1:50 PM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

GOAL! Another Chelski goal within a minute - Marcus Alonso with the second!

1:50 PM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

From the kickoff, Chelski's front line walked through the Everton backline, Hazard feeding Pedro who crossed for Alonso to finish through Stek's legs

2-0!

1:51 PM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Mirallas started warming up straight after Alonso’s goal, and finally comes on 20 minutes later, replacing Bryan Oviedo. Everton are lucky not to be further behind.

2:08 PM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Courtois might as well have gone off to do some Christmas shopping. He's yet to be tested.

2:09 PM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

GOAL! Diego Costa appears at the back post to nod home his 9th goal of the season!

Chelski are rampant - 3-0!

2:12 PM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

We're back on at Stamford Bridge for the second half then. Chelski appear to have this one in hand now at 3-0 but I'm going to stick it out until I head over for some urgent grading on campus.

2:37 PM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Matic storms forward but feeds it to an offside Costa.

2:38 PM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

After that brief flurry from Everton, Chelsea resume their position inside Everton’s half.

2:43 PM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

GOAL! Hazard with a beautiful finish! 4-0!

2:44 PM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

GOAL! The Chelski boys are lining up for goals now. Hazard nearly scored his hat-trick, Pedro followed up.

5-0!

2:53 PM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Hazard is set to come off, in place of Michy Batshuayi. Chelsea have eased off the accelerator in the last few minutes. So no hat-trick for the Belgian today.

3:06 PM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Has there been a more one-sided game all season?

3:15 PM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

That's that, then. A stonking win for the Blues today.

It' been a very quiet day on the LOB. I'll hope to hear from you tomorrow.
