Evening, comrades. I'm home from work, have changed into something comfy for the evening and have a nice bourbon and ginger at my side. I'm looking forward to sharing the evening with all of you.
I'm dialed into the MSNBC coverage right now. Currently it's Chuckie Todd and his daily Meet the Press show. Apparently some exit polling is coming at the bottom of the hour.
Mona Chalabi on the Guardian blog write: "Preliminary exit polling data is out and some of it reinforces the information we already had. Many voters have a negative view of the candidates - one in five Clinton voters said they chiefly oppose the other candidate, and 27% of Trump supporters said the same.
Crucially, turnout rates among Republicans, Democrats and Independents look like they’ll be comparable to 2012 based on this very early information. If current polling predictions hold true and turnout rates remain relatively consistent, that could work in Clinton’s favor."
We're coming up on the 7pm hour when polls will start to close on the East Coast, including Florida and Virginia.
The seven o'clock hour comes:
Georgia is too close to call
Virginia is too early to call
Trump has taken Indiana and Kentucky
Clinton has taken Vermont
South Carolina also "too early to call."
Trump with an early 19-3 lead over HRC. Early doors.
The Southeast is looking very different now. Northern VA has tipped VA toward the Dems. The NC Research Triangle has done the same in NC, Charleston is starting to tip SC. And Atlanta the same in GA. Wow!
A long way to go with the Floirda vote, folks.
Florida results in the 2016 presidential race are starting to come in.
Owing to its electoral importance, Florida is picked apart like a dissected frog all campaign long by people who have devoted significant portions of their lives to getting very good at doing that.
There continues to be solid news in the state for Clinton
More polls to close at 7:30pm.
Add five more electoral votes to the Trump column: 24-3.
That's Kentucky that just went to Trump. Still early doors.
Rob Portman has won his Senate seat in Ohio (sigh) ...
Trump has also picked up West Virginia. That's five more electoral votes. 29-3 Trump so far.
The North Carolina State Board of Elections moved to keep multiple polling places open past their scheduled 7:30 p.m. closing time after software glitches at some stations caused delays.
All of the states going to form right now. Its' at 55-44 Trump.
Arkansas goes for Trump, too.
60-44 Trump now.
Still waiting on some swing states to come in.
NBC News has called it that the GOP will retain control of the House.
The Dems are 1 seat better already, due to Tammy Duckworth's win in Illinois over Mark Kirk. They need three more for parity; four more to take the Senate control.
Rochester folks have been making a pilgrimage to Susan B. Anthony's grave in order to pay respects tonight. Very cool.
North Carolina seems to be swinging to HRC, Florida perhaps to Trump. Michigan - ?????
Ah....I had high hopes for South Carolina. But it's gone to Trump. That'll flip eventually but not tonight.
9pm hour now and Midwestern polls are closing.
Texas goes to Trump (sigh)
And Kansas - who cares!
So it's 137 to 104 in favor of Trump now.
More nervous news for Dems. The WV senator Joe Manchin will not confirm that he will caucus as a Dem if it's a 50-50 split.
At 9:30, it's Trump up 134 to 104. He just picked up Wyoming and Nebraska. As expected.
The Senate is going down to the wire, too. 42-42 tie with 16 to sort out.
Dow numbers plunging now on the news of a tight race tonight.
Hello Bob. I'm back from tutoring. The last time I checked on my phone, it was looking like a Trump victory
New Mexico has gone for HRC - that's big.
It looks like it may come down to Michigan. I think Trump leads there. What do you think?
Missouri goes for Trump, as expected.
It's 150 to 109 now.
Hiya, MUR - I'm still predating an HRC win, although maybe tighter than I'd expected. Could be closer to 300 electoral votes for her.
I sure hope so, but it doesn't seem that way. I have Modelo Especial , Sam Addams Winter Lager , and Sam Addams Octoberfest in stock to help get me through the evening
Virginia seems to be swinging for HRC now with the Gooner votes from NOVA coming in big for her. I can hear the cheering from Alex from here.
You're going to need it, mate. This one is going beyond midnight for sure. Extra time and maybe penalties.
Well done, Gooners. America could use more Gooners and Man Yoos.
First penalty shootout in 16 years.
Bugger - Ohio has gone for Trump. That's a big blow for HRC.
Trump just won Ohio. Not good news at all.
So the Senate total now is 46 to 43 Repubs.
Only nine left to sort out there.
YESSSSS!!!!!
Virginia goes for HRC. She needed that one. Cheering from Alex!
WAY HAY!!!! Well done from Alex!
Colorado goes for HRC. Another SW state now for her. That's looking like a really good area for her. How long before TX goes Dem?
The Dems have still only picked up 1 Senate and 2 House seats.
I think it will still be a while before Texas turns Dem. People from both parties vote straight party rather than for the candidate.
I moved here with Melanie and produced an heir to turn my mother's birthplace blue.
Well done, Gooner - you lot pulled HRC out of the fire tonight. Phew!
I second that. Your lot put our state to shame.
I've just tucked Kate into bed. She'd had enough and we have one early morning. But I'm going to ride this one out.
I'm still up with you, but I don't blame Kate. I'm feeling fatigued as well.
I'm moving on to Baileys for the final stretch.
HRC is up to 197 electoral votes, but she still needs to win some swing states.
I polished off a Modelo Especial and may go on to another.
Is Elizabeth watching along with you?
She's at her parents, taking care of them. She made some really evil choices.
Trump leads 222 to 197 in electoral votes.
Looking very bad, right now. HRC desperately needs Michigan and Wisconsin now.
If he wins I think it's doom and gloom . I wonder how that will affect our everyday lives.
Some good news there - Cortez Masto has won in Nevada - a good portent for the Presidential vote out there.
Demi have now gained 2 votes in the Senate.
Hello, mate. What's the latest in the Senate? I'm skeptical about the future of this country.
Things suddenly not looking so good in Penn. That would be all over for HRC. Bugger.
The Dems have got two seats from the GOP. If the rest goes to form, the GOP would retain the Senate with 52-48 majority.
Only 2,00 votes separate the candidates in the Keystone State.
BUGGER!!!! Not a good evening. Time to move to Canada?
I'm awake, but like HRC, I'm not too far away from the Luton Motel 6.
HRC wins Nevada - Southwest really coming in big for HRC tonight.
Thinking of Bedfordshire myself but I'm going to ride it out.
Not looking good at this moment, mate. HRC is down in PA, MI, WI. Not good.
I'm off to bed, mate. Sad night.
