Sunday at Gooner HQ
A very good Sunday morning, lads. I hope that you're enjoying your weekends. It's Gooner's birthday - I'll be posting a birthday message thread later - and we're settling in to do what we love best - watch some of the football. The footie gods have planned a fascinating birthday schedule as well. It's Liverpool visiting Bournemouth up first and then it's Everton hosting ManYoo later on. Stick around for all of it, won't you?

Liverpool
Karius; Clyne, Lucas, Lovren, Milner; Henderson, Can, Wijnaldum; Firmino, Mane, Origi. Subs: Klavan, Moreno, Lallana, Mignolet, Ejaria, Woodburn, Alexander-Arnold.
Referee: Bobby Madeley (West Yorkshire)
Good morning, Bob. Great to join you for a Sunday double header on the Gooner's Birthday. Wishing him a Happy birthday
A minute's silence was observed in memory of the tragic air crash in Brazil
And after a moment of silence for the Brazilians, we're ready to go here from Vitality Stadium with Jon Champion and Andy Townsend on the mic.
It's sunny on the South Coast while here it's overcast and gloomy like a typical day in blighty.
They're off from the Vitality Stadium
Morning, MUR - thanks for joining me. We're away in Bournemouth with Bournemouth in their usual red and black vertical stripes and Liverpool in, well, a day-glo number that could probably be seen across the English Channel.
My pleasure Glad to join you. LOL. You can definitely see that kit on the other side of the Channel
Origi has had a couple of touches but they’ve both more or less bounced off him, like one of those square net things on a frame you used to practice your first touch with when you were a kid.
Wising the Gooner a Very Happy Birthday. I guess he got his gift yesterday at the expense of our beloved WHR.
The away already in the ascendancy with less than ten minutes gone. We've established the pattern of the match early on.
LOL, mate. You're top of the pun count this morning.
Josh King was released from United because he played l;ike Origi the few times SAF gave him a chance.
Cheers, mate - Gooner did get his birthday wishes met in spades yesterday. I'm glad that we met up with WHR on Friday night instead of for the game. It was a bit sad for the Hammers.
Talking about King he overruns the ball into your former academy player then Harry Arter concedes a free kick
OH!!!!! Origi does what Bob's been criticizing him for . Former Saint, Nat Clyne played a fantastic ball across the box and all Origi had to do was tap it in , but it seemed to bounce off him morthan anything else. A great chance.
Nat Clyne wins a corner from yet another great pass from Hendo. Why can't they do that on a regular basis for England.
The corner from Hendo is out for another as Lucas was challenging. His next corner is cleared. Take three.
Bournemouth seem to be well set up by Eddie Howe to deal with these routine set pieces.
Former Toffee , Dan Gosling heads out for take four.
It's cleared to the delight of the home fans.
Did you get a chance to see the match from ER???
Wijnaldum wins another Pool corner.
Now Liverpool have a tasty free kick chance out wide left after King upends LUFC Academy.
Josh King heads away the corner then Josh King fouls Milner just to the left of the box. THat's one up for your academy vs ours/.
We did, indeed. Came back from Dad's and watched. I keep pinching myself - I cannot believe that we're 4th!
What was that from Milner. Surely they taught free kicks at the LuFC Academy
what a performance. Roofe with his first goal that was not in the roof of the net, a streaker on the pitch, and nosebleed territory. Congrats , mate.
GOAL! Mane with a great goal to open the scoring here on the South Coast.
A long ball over the top for Mane to run on to and he just toe-pokes it past Boruc who was slow off his line.
0-1!
Yeah - Roofe has been quality all season but it was good to see him on the scoresheet.
GOAL !!!!POOL TURN THEIR DOMINANCE INTO A GOAL WITH A SUPERB LONG BALL. MANE POKES IT PAST BORUC, WHO ALONG WITH NATHAN AKE WAS GUILTY OF SHAKY DEFENDING
GOAL! Liverpool have ripped the Cherries apart in two minutes. Boruc off the line disastrously and Origi rounds him and finishes from an impossible angle.
0-2!
GOAL !!!! ANOTHER GLARING ERROR IS PUNISHED IN A MATTER OF MINUTES . AS JON CHAMPION STATED, ORIGI DEFIED THE LAWS OF GEOMETRY AS BORUC RUSHED MILES OUT OF HIS BOX , ORIGI WENT PAST AND SHOT INTO AN EMPTY NET FROM A NARROW ANGLE.
Two minutes and four seconds between the goals as it's starting to look it bit like London Stadium
Well, having been too reticent about coming out for the first goal, Boruc over-compensated there.
The second goal was surprisingly simple considering the complexity of Klopp's system. Mane tackled Arter just outside the Pool box, passed to Hendo and his long slide rule pass found Origi, who rounded Boruc and did the rest
Splendidly efficient stuff this, from Liverpool. They’ve dominated the game and taken a couple of early chances, if those chances were rather donated to them by Boruc.
It looks like Pool will end this match day in second place. The Hammers will move into the drop zone if the Tigers win at the Riverside tomorrow.
Agreed. Origi did everything he could to disprove what you said about him. He was none too pleased.
Yeah - the only change at the top will be Arsenal replacing Citeh in third. Not good for my PPP score. And Aguero lined up for a three-match ban is even worse.
Sarcastic applause as Borruc gathers a routine cross.
Close to what I predicted. I picked the Gunners fourth and Citeh fifth. Not far off.
Firmino well wide from 25 yards out
Some more FA Cup Second Round matches being played today. The Real Dons won a thriller at the mighty Curzon Ashton by a score of 3-4
Sourbridge vs Northampton has been postponed.
If Eddie has any smarts, he'll make some changes at half-time. His plan isn't working.
Josh King nearly in there at the near post. If the Cherries could get one back before half-time it would change this match.
Nearly a goal for the Cherries as Stanisluas played in Josh King . His pass went off of Karius and in nearly for an OG off a defender. Ake thought he won a penalty off the corner , but Bobby Madely said no.
It looks like Pool got away with one their as Firmino appeared to trip[ Ake. It must have been those jerseys that obstructed Madley's view.
Posh take the lead on the short journey to Notts County
I think the draw for the Third Round is tomorrow. Any preferences, mate?
WAY HAY!!! Cambridge takes the lead vs Coventry in the Cup.
Into Two minutes of stoppage time.
Bristol Rovers take the lead vs Barrow and the Posh go two up at Notts County
Half-time - and I'm off to wash up.
Pool are two up at the half.
Eastleigh takes the lead vs Halifax in a matchup of non league teams
Barrow tie it up at Bristol Rovers
The second half is underway as former Pool , trainee , Jordan Ibe , is on for former United trainee, Josh King
The second half is underway - Jordan Ibe, the former Pool man, has come on for Bournemouth.
Four goals at the Evil Dem during halftime of this match. Braintree took the lead at the Evil Den, but the Evil Lions tied it up a minute later, followed by two more goals in eight minutes. The Evil Lions lead 3-1
WAY HAY!!! Cambridge goes two up vs Coventry and look to be in the hat for the Third Round draw tomorrow.
Wishere booked for an unsavory challenge and skipper , Simon Francis , is told to calm him down
A thriller at the Evil Den as Braintree pull one back, trailing the Evil Lions 3-2 and only 35 minutes have been played.
Simon Francis is booked for a late challenge on the former LUFC Academy player.
Boruc punches away a swerving free kick from Milner for a Pool corner.
The corner from Hendo is cleared
Accrington Stanley take the lead at Woking
Hendo is booked for an ankle foul on Stanislaus.
Klopp looks a tad chilly today as Stanislaus is still down from that challenge.
Liverpool have taken their foot off the gas a bit, predictably, as Arsenal did yesterday. They've been on cruise control.
While Junior Stanislaus is down getting treatment, I'm going to post a birthday message for the Gooner on FB and the LOB.
He's helped off the field and that would be a major loss for the Cherries. It is as Ryan Fraser, signed on the cheap from Aberdeen is on for him.
Penalty to Bournemouth!!!
PENALTY CHERRIES AS FRASER MAKES AN IMMEDIATE IMPACT AS HE'S FOULED BY MILNER.
GOAL !!!! CALLUM WILSON SCORES STRAIGHT DOWN THE MIDDLE AS KARIUS WAS DIVING THE WRONG WAY. IT'S 1-2 NOW.
Great job, mate. I will make sure to comment to one of my great friends.
Klopp was furious about the penalty decision and is lectured about his conduct by Bobby Madley. He's still letting the fourth official, Stuart Atwell have it.
WAY HAY!!! CAMBRIDGE THRASHING THE FORMER TOP FLIGHT TEAM AS THEY GO THREE UP VS COVENTRY. Your thoughts?
Game on at the Vitality then?
Accrington Stanley go two up at Woking and Notts County pull one back vs Posh as they trail the Posh 1-2.
It sure is. I thought Pool had this one wrapped up, but a certain player provided a lifeline.
Nat Clyne shoots well over while Ryan Fraser has been like a breath of fresh air for the Cherries.
GOAL! And just like that Liverpool have responded. They do leak goals but they've got loads of goals in them.
GOAL !!!EMRE CAN RESTORES POOL'S TWO GOAL LEAD WITH A SUPERB FINISH
Mane rolls it to Can and boom!
1-3!
Wijnaldum won the ball in midfield and passed to MAne, who went on a great run , then passed to Can , who scored with a rocket in the upper 90 from the D.
Like a Can ON!!! BOOM BOOM!
WAY HAY !!!! You will be delighted to hear that Bolton took the lead vs the Evil Blades with virtually the last kick of the half in the Second Round of the Cup.
Thanks, mate!
While Boruc can be blamed for the first two goals, there was virtually nothing that could be done about that CAN ON!!!
Harry Arter with an effort so far over that it must have gone halfway across the English Channel
A swap of two former Saints players just down the road from the Vitality Stadium as Lallana is on for Mane. Jon Champion mentioned that Lallana had a night out his last visit to Bournemouth and the locals show what they think as they give him frosty reception.
Karius does well to tip over a shot from Fraser. The young Scot makes his first mistake of the match with a poorly taken corner.
Lovely jubbly!
Milner wins a corner off of Fraser and Brouc catches his corner. he nearly carried it over the line for what would have been an embarrassing day to have completed an embarrassing hat-trick.
WOW !!! Boruc avoided that OG by the width of a hair.
A striker for a defensive midfield player as Banik Afobe is on for Dan Gosling. THe Cherries are now playing with two up front.
GOAL !!! RYAN FRASER SCORES ON A CLASSIC COUNTER . WELL DONE BY THE CHERRIES GREAT FINSIH
GOAL! Well, well, well - this is why watching Liverpool is so entertaining this season.
2-3! Bournemouth back in biz!
iT'S NOW 2-3 AS THAT WAS A TEXTBOOK COUNTER. Origi sloppily passed to Wilshere , who found fellow former Gunner trainee , Afobe. He passed to Fraser, who sent Callum Wilson down the right. Her passed across the box, Afobe let it go and Ryan Fraser scored with a cracking finish from the edge of the box.
3-3!!!!!
Incredible match at the Vitality!
GOAL !!! WOW !!! IT'S 3-3 AS STEVE COOK SCORES WITH A TASTY FINISH
It's Fraser again. Great cross over, great pull down and turn and whack!
3-3!
lOVEREN HEADED OUT A FREE KICK FROM cALLUM wILSON to Wilshere . He sent Ryan Fraser down the right and his pass was trapped by Cook and deliciously tucked away for an unlikely equalizer.
Oh - Afobe was nearly in there for a fourth. Bournemouth have their tails up!
OH!!! Karius rushes out to tip over a close range effort from Afobe.
Eddie Howe is looking like a genius with those substitutions.Ryan Fraser has two assists and won a penalty and playing two up front has unsettled the Liverpool defense.
You will be delighted to hear that Bolton have gone two up vs the Evil Blades early in the second half of a Second Round Cup tie.
BUGGER!!! You will not be pleased to hjear that the Evil Lions have scored to take a 4-2 lead vs Braintree.
A draw means that Chelsea will be clear by three points at the top of the table . Who would have thought that? Surely, nobody in the PPP>
Emre Can booked for a cheap shot on Ryan Fraser.
I suppose that's one way to stop Fraser, who has been electric since coming off the bench.
Simon Francis win a Cherries corner.
Bournemouth are really doing Arsenal a favor here; the Gunners will stay second on GD with this result.
Jeff will not be pleased that Port Vale have taken early lead vs his team in the Cup.
Five minutes of stoppage time now to come
Lallana wins a corner off of Ake as there are five minutes of stoppage time.
There is one person who picked Chelski - Red Dragon, I think.
Loveren heads on to the corner to Origi , who does well to control the ball, turn and volley just inches over.
Thanks for the update. Red Dragon will be delighted.
Lallana just wide with a long range effort.
GOAL! Oh - my goodness; it's 4-3!!!!!
BLOODY HELL !!! NATAHN AKE!!! LOOKS TO HAVE WON IT FOR THE CHERRIES, WHO NOW LEAD 4-3
This may be why Liverpool may lose the title. They're thrilling up front but they give up too many goals at the back.
a LONG THROW BY sTEVE cOOK WAS HEADED OUT TO jORDAN iBE ,, WHO PASSED BACK TO cOOK. iT WAS TOO HOT TO HANDLE FOR kARIUS, WHO SAVED THE INITIAL REBOUND FROM aKE, BUT NOT THE SECOND.
What a comeback for the Cherries , who were won 1-3 down not too long ago
One last desperate chance for Pool, lofted into the area. Boruc collects and that is that!!!!
It's over and the Cherries come back to defeat Liverpool 4-3 in an unlikely win. Eddie Howe's substitutions changed the course of the match
Agreed, Bob. That suspect defense will likely cost them the title.
Accrington Stanley go three up at Woking. Stanley eliminated Burnley in ET of the EFL Cup and gave the Hammers all they could handle. I'm sure teams will want to avoid them in the draw tomorrow.
Jeff will not be pleased that Port Vale have gone two up vs his team about twenty minutes in and you will not be pleased that the Evil Blades have pulled a goal back at Bolton as they now trail 2-1.
Off to take Sparky walkies on the first cool , breezy, dreary morning of the season.
Back for the late one now, after a spot of birthday brekkies.
Teams on the pitch now:
Everton: Stekelenburg, Coleman, Funes Mori, Ashley Williams, Baines, Gana, Barry, Mirallas, Cleverley, Bolasie, Lukaku. Subs: Robles, Jagielka, Deulofeu, Barkley, McCarthy, Valencia, Holgate.
Man Utd: De Gea, Valencia, Jones, Rojo, Darmian, Carrick, Pogba, Mkhitaryan, Ander Herrera, Martial, Ibrahimovic. Subs: Bailly, Mata, Lingard, Blind, Rashford, Romero, Fellaini.
Referee: Michael Oliver.
We're ready to go - both sides in their traditional colors.
I'm back just in time as they're off from Goodison
Miki is back in the first team, good to see. Rooney isn't even on the bench - is he injured?
Final scores in the FA Cup 2nd Round:
Bolton 3 Evil Blades 2
A shocker : Bristol Rovers 1 Barrow 2
Cambridge 4 Coventry 0
Eastleigh 3 Halifax 3
Evil Lions 5 Braintree 2
Notts County came from two down to make it Desmond vs Posh
Woking 0 Accrington Stanley 3
Not sure. He had a good match vs the Hammers midweek in the EFL Cup
Port Vale are three up at the half vs Jeff's favorite team
COME ON MAN UNITED!
COME ON MAN UNITED!
COME ON MAN UNITED!
Welcome back, mate.
How as brekkies? Always enjoyable at Gooner Central
Thanks, mate. Glad to enjoy the pleasure of your company.
Everton still look the better side. United have hoisted a couple of long balls down the right flank for Martial to chase after, but that’s about it so far.
Pogba is high and wide after a great United possession.
Kung Fu Panda was in an illegal position as he was about to shoot past stecks. Great through ball from Miki after a pass from Carrick
They should play the Zed cars song because that's what Row the effort from Funes-Mari landed/.
United desperately need a good win here, otherwise they're at risk of losing contact with the top sides. They're currently 13 points adrift from Chelski at the top.
Jose talking about style of play and DNA . Wasn't he supposed to work on that this summer?
Barry adding to his record tally of Premier League bookings for his challenge on Zlatan, who let him know how he felt about it,
United with lots of pretty passing deep in the Toffees half, but they need to work Stecks.
Rojo becomes the first player into Michael Oliver's book. Ouch!
Rojo was never Gana get away with that as he's booked for a rash challenge after Herrera gave away possession.
The free kick was headed up by Ashley Williams , then former United player , Clever Boy , looking anything but as his volley is scuffed upward and gathered by De Gea.
Now United win a corner. Bolassie is on to the karate chop as it's headed away. Eventually, the ball is headed onward to Stecks.
Bolassie is off to the races , but his cross is headed away after a series of crunching tackles by both teams then an illegal karate chop to open a jar of Coleman mUstard. It's a Toffees free kick that results in a United free kick.
Mustard and Toffee? Has that combination ever been served by you or the Gooner.
Not really a birthday feast, is it?
Fat Ronnie a little thin on the blue on Twitter that the fans say isn't worth Toffee.
Not really. I guess we were too spoiled in the early match. We are seeing why these teams have struggled as of late.
Your mate, Jeff, is not enjoying the Gooner's birthday as Port Vale go four up vs his lot as his team are about to crash out of the Cup.
The players seem to have taken stock of Oliver’s refereeing decisions thus far and decided that they can probably be as violent as they like today.
Mirallis was unable to connect a pass from Bolassie that surely would have given the Toffees the lead.
It's not that he's letting the play flow? Perhaps he's playing by the rules used about forty years ago. Wrong rule book?
Funes-Mori is called for obstruction on Miki about a yard behind the D
Into the wall by Zlatan. Really awful.
Both teams have seen a lot of the ball, but have been bullocks.
What's Zlatan been eating for brekkies. Surely he needs a pick me up.
Michael Oliver has finally run out of patience with the serial fouler Gareth Barry.
Enough is enough as Barry is booked for repeated rules violations after great foot work by Miki
A night out on the town after curfew for Zlatan?
That jar of mustard was neither too hot nor too spicy as that was deemed a legal karate chip.
Could have been - he looks right off the boil today.
And don't get me started on Pogba - he's making a mockery of those flash Nike ads.
The last 10 minutes or so has been dreadful. No passing moves to speak of, just a lot of hopeful but aimless balls forward followed by clearances into touch.
GOAL! An extraordinary finish from Zlatan!
And now Stekelenberg has gone walkabout again - hasn't really learned his lesson, eh?
YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!! UNITED TAKE THE LEAD WITH A BIZARRE GOAL BY ZLATAN HE CHIPPED THE ON RUSHING STECKS . IT CAME OFF THE BAR AND POST, ROLLED ON THE LINE THEN TRICKED OVER THE LINE AS A DEFENDER WAS A SECOND TOO LATE CLEARING IT
So much for Zlatan having a night out. That was sheer brilliance combined with bizarre goal keeping. Agreed about Pogs
A minute of stoppage time.
United are one up at the end of what was primarily a dreadful half, but came to life in the final few minutes.
The second half is underway from Goodison. No changes from either manager.
Jeff's lads crash out of the Cup , losing 4-0 at Port Vale.
Zlatan must love really hot mustard as that was a robust challenge plus the massive size differential.
I'm back from a road snack run to the store in time to see Twilight make a tremendous save.
Is UWS boycotting United matches now? We haven't heard from him all day.
OH!!! Great kick save by De Gea from Mirallis as Mirallis too easily skipped past the United defenders after some great Toffee link up play
I think UWS is at ODP training today.
Welcome back, mate. Some goodies for the road.
Kung Fu Panda has a shot deflect off of Baines inches wide for a corner, wrong footing Stecks
Clev with a chippy foul on the edge of the box. Could be fruitful.
Not so Clever Boy showing UNited why the likes of Miki are starting instead of him as he fouls Miki inches outside the box., The free kick is cleared
An aimless karate chop as that shot was high and wide.
Oh - rocketed off the bar by Herrera!
OH!!! Off the bar from Herrera as United try to go two up.
Mourinho is still looking grumpy, despite his side being three points up. This would be a vital win.
It may be a rancid jar of mustard as Coleman is down for treatment.
