Lakenheath Old Boys

We are all former students at Lakenheath High School and other public schools in East Anglia. We were in school in the 70s and 80s and drank deeply from the well of British culture of those decades - the pints, the telly, and of course the footie!

Another United Sunday!

It's another tale of the two United this super Sunday morning. In a few moments, my beloved Leeds will take to the field against local rivals Huddersfield in a playoff six-pointer. That's followed later on with the two Manc clubs battling over that last Champions League slot. Join me this morning for all the action.

And we're away at Hudders in this brutally early match-up.

7:04 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Three early corners for the Leeds boys - seems like we've had a bright start.

7:08 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Chris Wood has a left-footed drive saved by Hudders keeper. Ward.

7:09 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Fifteen minutes in and still no goals.

7:17 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Luke Ayling has picked up the match's first yellow card.

7:22 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Two goals in quick succession and we're at 1-1. I've finally got a link going on BEin. Chris Wood with his 21st of the season.

7:39 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

We're a bit under the cosh here.

7:41 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Great finish from Wood from 40 yards but it won't count - he's been called for a foul.

7:44 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Nice free kick opportunity now.

7:47 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

And that's the half-time whistle then. Leeds troop in 1-1 at the interval. Fairly even contest from what I've seen. Hoping for a winning effort in the second half.

7:49 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Sides coming back on the pitch now.

8:03 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

And we're away again in the second half now.

8:04 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Oh - great cross over and Woody was nearly in there. Well blocked by Smith.

8:09 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Getting near the hour mark now - surely Gary has some changes in mind.

8:13 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Nice flick there by Woody but Douks wasn't on the same channel there.

8:14 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Half an hour to play at the John Smith Stadium now.

8:19 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

First change for us - Douks comes off and Alfonso Pedraza, our new signing from Villarreal comes on for his debut.

8:21 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Brilliant save from Green once again!

8:23 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Oh - first effort from Pedraza there. Great run and a sharp shot that Ward had to turn around.

8:23 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Swansea and Citeh preparing to do battle now at the Liberty.

8:26 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Wood nearly in there again before Ward claimed.

8:29 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Oh - Pedraza did really well to get to the by-line but his cut back didn't find Wood.

8:31 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Kyle Bartley picks up a needless yellow card there.

8:31 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Oh - great save by Rob Green there - it went through several players and he held it well.

8:33 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Another debut for us now - Barrow is coming on for Dallas.

8:35 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Roughly fifteen minutes left for Leeds to break the deadlock here.

8:36 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Lots of firepower for us up front now. Come on!

8:37 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Pablo gives away a free kick in a central area. Gets a yellow for it.

8:40 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Phew - ball straight across the area but no one there for Hudders to tap it in. A let off!

8:41 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Oh - Pedraza went down in the area. Nothing doing from the ref.

8:47 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Now there is a foul right outside our area for Hudders.

8:47 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

BUGGGERRRR!

The German center half Hefele has stabbed home what looks to be a winner for Huddersfield.

8:49 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Looks like some argy bargy after the goal between Hudders coach Wagner and our Gary Monk.

8:51 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

And Wagner is being sent off by the referee. Well in!

Bridcutt has also been yellow carded.

And now Gary Monk has been sent off!

8:51 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Perhaps we can get back to some football now?

8:52 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Into four minutes of stoppage time now. Come on!

8:53 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Route 1 time now for the Yellows.

8:55 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

A couple of minutes left to salvage a point now.

8:55 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Perhaps time for one more attack now.

8:57 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

The referee has given the same Hudders player two yellows now and he's still on!

8:57 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Bugger! There's full time and we've lost this one.

Down to fifth now, with Hudders taking our fourth spot.

8:58 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Good morning, Bob. I had a late lie in because I got back late from taking Melanie to Cotillion at the Island.

9:27 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Sorry about the result. The main objective is to remain in a playoff spot, where Leeds should be at the end of the season, then anything can happen.

9:28 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

I caught the last few minutes of the first half where Citeh lead the Swans 1-0 in a very dominant first half performance. This result would leave the relegation race wide open between six teams while Citeh will be third, ten points behind Chelsea.

9:31 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Jesus scored for Citeh on a Sunday, so Pep's prayers must have been answered.

9:32 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

The second half is underway.

9:32 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Swansea only had one touch in the Citeh penal;ty area while Citeh had 32 in the Swansea box. That's complete dominaace.

9:33 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

A rare Swans attack and one of the Olsson twins id fouled outside the Citeh box by Fernandinho.

9:35 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

OH!!!! A combination of Willy and the post turns around a free kick from Siggy that was bent like Beckham

9:36 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Jim Beglin says that Pep loves an experiment. Does that make him a mad scientist? I could see that.

9:44 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Kolorov heads out for a Swansea corner.

9:47 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

The corner from Siggy is headed out then a bout of head tennis until Llorente clumsily gets Kolorov with his arm, going for the ball and is booked for that.

9:48 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Routledge wins a corner off of Kolorov.

9:49 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

A great corner from Siggy is headed wide by Alfie Mowson.

9:49 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Luciano Narsingh, a new signing from PSV , is on for Routledge. He made his debut in midweek vs the Saints.

9:54 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Morning, MUR! I'm not sulking in a corner. I'm getting ready for the anti-Trump rally in Buffalo today.

9:57 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Silva had a shot blocked by Mowson for a corner off a cheeky flick from Jesus.

9:59 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Morning, mate. Hopefully, the rally goes well. Despite the late lie in and the morning cuppa, still a tad tired from getting back from the ISland in the wee hours.

10:00 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

With free kicks like that Siggy should be called sicky.

10:01 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Nathan Dyer on for Tom Carroll so that the Swans outlook this match is not a dyer.

10:02 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Jack Cork booked for fouling Jesus . Especially bad since it's on a Sunday.

10:03 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Zaba on in place of De Bruyne. A slightly defensive switch

10:05 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

GOAL !!!! OH MY GIDDY AUNT . SIGGY HAS TIED IT UP FOR THE SWANS WITH A WELL PLACED EFFORT FROM JUST OUTSIDE THE BOX.

10:08 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Like for like as one Spanish striker is on for another for Swansea. Borja for Llorente .Aguero is on for Sterling as Citeh have another true striker.

10:11 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Citeh punished for not putting away the Swans in the first half. A rare long Swans possession resulted in the goal. It started with a throw and about twenty passes later Narsingh sang a lovely tune as he picked out Siggy, who scored with that great finish.

10:12 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

The consequence of that goal means that as things stand , Citeh are a dozen points behind Chelsea and basically out of the title race while the Swans move up a place and more importantly, two points clear of the drop zone.

10:14 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Next up for the Swans is an unexpected and really vital relegation six pointer vs the Foxes in the late match next Sunday while Citeh will have a Monday night match at the South Coast at the Cherries.

10:15 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Celtic won 2-5 at St. Johnny and should clinch the SPL title in a few weeks. Ho hum.

10:17 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Four minutes of stoppage time.

10:18 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Celtic TWENTY SEVEN points clear of Rangers and Aberdeen. What's the point?

10:18 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

The Bees take the lead vs the Seagulls. Bob will be pleased.

10:19 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

GOAL !!! JESUS LOOKS TO HAVE WON IT FOR CITEH ON A SUNDAY. NOW 2-1

10:20 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

The goal came out of the blue as a slide tackle from Narisingh and the ball broke to Silva. He went on a run and his long cross was headed by Jesus, fumbled by Flappy and the he tapped the rebound in from an inch out. Horrible for Swansea , who looked to have gained a vital point.

10:22 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Aguero heads over with a free header as the Swans were caught chasing an equalizer.

10:23 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Citeh hang on to win 2-1 thanks to a pair of goals by Jesus on a Sunday: the last one a winner in the third minute of stoppage time. Siggy talked himself into the book shortly after the goal.

10:24 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Off to take Sparky walkies ahead of the Foxes vs United.

10:24 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Back in time for the late match after walkies on a warm, breezy morning.

10:58 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

The Bees are two up vs the Seagulls at the half.

10:59 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

They're off from the KP.

11:00 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

How the mighty have fallen. United, Champions four years ago, already out of the title race, while the Foxes, the current champions, are in a relegation battle, just a point above the drop zone.

11:01 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Arlo at his beloved Foxes, joined in the booth by Lee Dixon and Le Socks.

COME ON MAN UNITED!

COME ON MAN UNITED!

COME ON MAN UNITED!

11:02 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Rojo heads out a cross from Mahrez, for a corner, under pressure from Huth.

11:04 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

United break off the corner and Danny Drinkwater , a former United trainee, is booked for a foul on the break.

11:05 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Rojo has a left footed shot off the outside of his boot curl straight to Kapser.

11:06 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

After a bout of head tennis, Mahrez receives a pass, cuts in and ha s a shot land closer to the corner flag than the goal.

11:15 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

The Foxes are up for the match and atmosphere resembles that of the title run in last season.

11:16 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Rojo concedes a free kick. Taken by Mahrez and headed on by Vardy then headed out for a Foxes corner under pressure from Wes Morgan. The corner comes to naught as a foul is called.

11:20 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

A horrible back pass from Herrera to Vardy. He puts through Musa, but a goal is prevented due to a great slide tackle by Bailey.

11:22 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

The best football from United this match. Miki led a break, released Mata down the right. He passed back to Miki , who found Rash, which he was as his shot landed in Row M.

11:23 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Zlatan down off a foul from former United player , Danny Simpson, on the halfway line. Now Simpson is down.

11:25 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

SAF seems content with proceedings at this point.

11:26 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Simson gets up , but looks really injured as he's limping horrible off the pitch. Young Ben Chilwell is warming up in case he needs to come on. Simpson back on like the warrior he is.

11:27 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

OH!!!! An x rated challenge by Mata on Vardy. Only a booking and United are lucky not to be a man down.

11:28 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Claudio lets the fourth official know that he thinks it should have been a red card.

11:29 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Kasper does well to turn a shot from Rash around the post as he was put through by Pogba. Smalling headed on the corner and it came off Pogba for a goal kick. Better from United./

11:36 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

GOAL !!!! MIKI GIVES UNITED THE LEAD WITH A SOLO RUN ON THE COUNTER AND SCORES WITH A GREAT FINISH PAST KASPER.

11:42 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

GOAL !!! TWO GOALS IN TWO MINUTES FOR UNITED . ZLATAN PUTS UNITED TWO UP AS HE PLACES A SHOT IN THE CORNER OFF A PASS FROM VALENCIA. SORRY . ARLO SAYS THE GOALS ARE A MINUTE AND 28 SECONDS APART

11:45 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

De Gea does well to hold on to a long range effort from Ndidi after a scrap in the United box. Two minutes of stoppage time.

11:46 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Yikes!!!! the Seagulls have come from two down to make it Desmond with two quick goals. Bob will not be pleased.

11:47 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

It's halftime. Lovely Jubbly as United are two up at the KP thanks to two late goals.

11:48 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

The Foxes were almost literally sucker punched . The first goal came as Drinkwater won a tackle in midfield, it bwas cleared by Valencia, headed on by Smalling and Huth had his mind on the summer holidays as Miki got to a loose ball that was right at Huth's feet. He had the freedom of the KP as he went on a 50 yard run. His shot took a deflection off the out stretched leg of Wes Morgan and Kasper.

11:52 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

The second goal came as Pogba won a loose ball in midfield . He passed to Mata , who found Valencia down the right He went on a run and as he was challenged by Fuchs, he passed behind Fuchs and Zlatan tucked it away first time in the corner.

11:53 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

It's a right old ding dong at Peter Griffin Park as the Bees take a 3-2 lead in stoppage time. Bob should be pleased about that.

11:55 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Several changes to start the second half. Blind on for Rojo while Claudio makes two changes for the Foxes. Damari Gray and Andy King are on for Okozaki and Musa.

12:07 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

GOAL !!!! JUST A MATA OF TIME AS UNITED GO THREE UP.

12:07 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Kasper does well to turn around a shot from Rash to prevent a fourth goal

12:09 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

The goal came off a long spell of Foxes possession. A long clearance from Kapser was headed on by Herrera. The first two goal scorers , Miki and Zlatan played a one two then Miki played a one two with Mat as the Mata got behind Fuchs and finished past the stranded Kasper. Fuchs appealed for offside, but the replay showed that Wes Morgan kept Mata onside.

12:11 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

I was about to state that the Foxes two substitutions were tactical as a winger and a midfield player came on for two strikers. It hasn't worked.

12:12 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Herrera is booked for pushing down Vardy on an attempted Foxes break.

12:13 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Pogba fouls Ndidi from behind as he went on a solo run and is booked for that. The free kick is just outside the United box.

12:14 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

OH!!! The closest the Foxes have come to scoring as Mahrez curled the free kick , but it went off the side netting on the near side of the goal.

12:15 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

YIKES! I thought the Bees had won it as Konstantin Kershbaumer had given the Bees a 3-2 lead in the fourth minute of stoppage time, but Tomer Hemed , the Israeli international,, tied it up in the seventh minute of stoppage time to make it 3-3 and rescue a point for the Seagulls.

12:17 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

The Toon are back on top, a point ahead of the Seagulls.,

12:19 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

BLOODY HELL! MATA WAS CLEAN THROUGH ON GOAL AND TRIES A CHIP WITH JUST KASPER TO BEAT, BUT IT'S STRAIGHT TO THE BIG KEEPER.

12:20 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

A tricky run by Damari Gray . He passes to Drinkwater , who curls a long range effort wide of the goal.

12:24 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Another run by Damari Gray as he wins a corner off of Pogba. Gray takes the corner that is cleared.

12:25 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

This result will leave the Foxes one point ahead of the drop zone. United will remain sixth, but will be a point behind fifth place Liverpool and two points behind fourth placed Gunners

12:28 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Vardy heads well over from a cross by Mahrez.

12:30 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Vardy wins a corner off of Bailey.

12:31 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

The corner is off Smalling for another.

12:31 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Wes Morgan heads on the next corner from Gray, but nobody is up and United counter. Eventually , Zlatan is crowded out .

12:32 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Hair Bear is on for Mata. Thankfully , United are three up, so he can't do enough to cost us the match in such a short period of time.

12:34 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Great last ditch tackle by Fuchs on Herrera from a through ball from Miki.

12:36 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Foxes fans head for the exit.

12:40 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Miki blasts over off a pass from Valencia, who was played down the right by Zlatan

12:40 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

The final roll of the dice from Jose as Yash is on for Rash.

12:41 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Damari Gray wins a corner off of Herrera.

12:41 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Hair Bear heads away the corner.

12:42 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

A horrible challenge by Valencia on Gray on what looked like a foul on the bullocks. Those are really painful. He got away with that as it's not even a booking.

12:44 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Gray takes the corner and it's headed away by Zlatan.

12:44 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

De Gea is booked for time wasting after Vardy was called for a foul on him.

12:45 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Kapser comfortably saves a long range effort from Pogba.

12:46 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Only a minute of stoppage time. I guess Anthony Taylor want s to put the Foxes out of their misery.

12:48 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

It's over as United comfortably thrash the Foxes 0-23 and a few boos from the remaining home fans. Claudio sportingly congratulates Jose , who respectfully responds.
