Sunday Morning Blues
It's the end of the road for the Championship regular season this morning. For me, it's a feeling of "should've been." For months, we were safe in the playoff spots, but Leeds somehow contrived to lose its last three matches going into this last day. So I'm up a bit late to follow the proceedings, but I don't have any enthusiasm for it. Neither do BEin, who have decided to show tennis instead.
More interesting will be Liverpool's match with Soton at 8:30am and then the big one, ManYoo v. Arsenal - a classic Premiership match-up. Join me for all the action this morning.

A lot of goals already in the Championship matches, which started at 7am. If Leeds had still had some stake in it, I would have been up bright and early with my lucky Leeds kit on. Instead, I snoozed through my alarm and can hardly bare to follow this stuff today.
And of course Leeds are already 1-0 down at Wigan (sigh)...
In the big one, Not a Big Club and Fulham are at 1-1. Other scores:
Brentford 0 Blackburn 2
Bristol C. 0 Brum 1
Burton A. 0 Reading 2
Huddersfield 0 Cardiff 1
Newcastle 1 Barnsley 0
Norwich 1 QPR 0
Wolves 1 PNE 0
Cardiff have added a second goal away at Huddersfield. Huddersfield are also down to ten men.
Morning boys
I was woken up by all the score updates in the Championship
There have been a hell of a lot goals inside the first half hour....are you watching Premier League??
Our two 7-0s aren't happening
Leeds losing 1-0 and Wed 1 Fulham 1
Newcastle have taken the lead and Brighton are goalless so the Toon would be Champs
Down the bottom, Birmingham are one up at Ashton Gate, Blackburn are TWO up at Brentford and Forest are still nil nil at home to Ipswich
Forest would be going down if it stays like this
All posting the same things!!
As it stands, Newcastle will finish as champions, Brighton in second. The playoff spots look like this:
3. Reading
4. Not a Big Club
5. Hudders
6. Fulham
So the playoff matches are the two London clubs and the two Yorkshire clubs.
Tried to go on the BEIN website but it lost your password
Morning, UWS. I hate football right now. I hope you're feeling more optimistic about United this morning.
The password is: Marxman64!
Username is: bobdahlgren
Mike is on his way to the Emirates as I type
Forest take the lead
Right now Forest would stay up on GOALS SCORED!!
Nice! Steve and I had a brilliant time going to see Arsenal v. Citeh back in 2012. Mike to run by the Turlington Arms for a pint of cask conditioned bitter and a Thai curry. Wonderful place!
This is on a knife edge now. If Blackburn score again, they’ll go back above Forest on goal difference. If Bristol City equalise against Birmingham, Harry Redknapp’s team will be in the thick of it. At the City Ground, meanwhile, Ipswich almost equalise immediately, but Christophe Berra heads just wide.
Marco Matias has been sent off for Not a Big Club - they're down to ten men.
I can't sign in again... not sending me to the right page!
Half time between Brentford and Blackburn, who are doing their bit to stay up. It's not quite enough yet but they're giving it a go.
Weird! I'll see if I can sign in.
I got in:

Weird. Try looking for BEin Sports Connect
The second halfs kick off in the Championship. Ipswich almost equalize immediately from the kickoff.
Yes! Chris Wood gets his 30th goal of the season from the penalty spot. I'm really happy that he's been able to reach that mark. He's been brilliant for us this season.
1-1 at Wigan.
I signed out and signed in
I'm in...thanks!
Now is there a match??
Brighton need a goal, else the title’s heading north.
Forest v Ipswich is on 7
Try channel 4 - I'll bet their playing the Not a Big Club v. Fulham
Brentford Blackburn is on 8
Villa Brighton on 9
Why wouldn't they have a match on their channel on the last day of the season? It makes no sense.
Which one are you watching?
Brentford have scored vs Blackburn
They now need two goals even though they are winning
Leeds equalize
There’s been no change in the situation at the bottom yet. Blackburn are still the team heading into League One. A Blackburn goal - or an Ipswich goal - will put Forest back into the bottom three, though.
What Leeds need is to hold on to Wood and go up automatically next season
If they come into the season as a contender, they can keep and get some players
They were a no one until Monk came
Blackburn now need two to stay up
They just missed a sitter!!
Meanwhile, over on NBC SN, Liverpool are getting ready to host their bogey team Soton. Here is the team news:
Liverpool (4-3-3): Mignolet; Clyne, Lovren, Matip, Milner; Lucas, Wijnaldum, Can; Firmino, Origi, Coutinho
Subs: Karius, Moreno, Grujic, Sturridge, Alexander, Lallana, Klavan
Southampton (4-2-3-1): Forster; Soares, Yoshida, Stephens, Bertrand; Romeu, Davis; Ward-Prowse, Tadic, Boufal; Gabbiadini
Subs: Hassen, Caceres, Long, Pied, Rodriguez, Hojbjerg, Redmond
Referee: Robert Madley
Ten yards out
Bouncing ball
Only the keeper to beat
Horrible shot over bar
Arlo is reporting that Mourinho may put out a younger side today at the Emirates. What do you make of that?
Forest two up
Blackburn now need three goals or Birmingham to get pegged back
I hate Jose doing that
Putting all their eggs in one basket... how about winning in the league!!!! So many dropped points. They would have been way inside the top four!
Will Jose really throw in the towel against Arsene
Bad couple of minutes for Blackburn there. They've allowed a Brentford goal while Forest have scored another against Ipswich. At present, it looks like Blackburn are going down and Forest are staying up.
Alex Pritchard has doubled Norwich's lead against QPR. Those two sides were in my top three at the beginning of the season. Not quite for them this season.
I think Birmingham are team that could change everything
Forest are going to win
Blackburn still winning
Birmingham still winning
If Brum concede... they are down
Of course, Rovers could concede too and that would help City
Chancel Mbema has added a second goal for Newcastle. Looks as if they'll be crowned champions at the end of this one. Brighton need a goal.
Reading are now three goals up against Burton. They'll go into the playoffs the form team.
Good morning chaps. I just woke up and am brewing a strong pot of coffee.
Apparently, Birmingham dominating
Forest have a penalty!
Players in the tunnel at Anfield now.
Oh by the way.... OH WHEN THE SAINTS , GO MARCHING IN. OH WHEN THE SAINTS GOING MARCHING IN. I WANT TO BE WITH THAT NUMBER. OH WHEN THE SAINTS GO MARCHING IN
So, looks like Forest have had a wonderful second half and are safe
Now it is Blackburn or Birmingham
Could it come back to bite them... Penalty saved!
Penalty to Brighton and Villa down to ten men
Brighton takes the lead... Can you say Champions
According to my calculations, Blackburn would be relegated on 51 points behind Forest on goal difference. So much for being safe on 50 points.
Forest miss the pen but score a third anyway... they are safe!
They're off from Anfield
COME ON YOU SAINTS.
Morning, MUR - great to have you with us this morning.
If the Saints were to beat Liverpool this morning, United could reduce the gap between the teams to one point with three matches to play.
Unless Blackburn score four with Forest scoring or some sort of four goal swing.
Blackburn fans look dejected
They don't have a hope of matching Forest now.. that would take four more goals
They shouldn't risk trying to score any more. They should hold on to their lead and get the win and just hope Burton score one
Thanks, Bob. Hope we can provide some cheer after an anti climatic start to the day
Did you mean for Bristol City to score? That would put Blackburn ahead of Reddy's Blues on goal difference
United just need Southampton to get a point and United could overhaul Liverpool
Of course, United would have to do the North London double, beat the Saints and Palace
Bristol City are on the front foot
Yup, Birmingham had to win if the other two did as well
Bram would be down if they concede
Cardiff are 0-3 up at Hudders who are limping into the playoffs.
As it stands, Nottingham Forest’s goal difference is -10 after that Assombalonga goal. Blackburn’s is -13 and it’s no contest when it comes to goals scored. Blackburn can’t catch Forest without some help from Ipswich. It’s out of their hands. They need Bristol City to score against Birmingham, who still lead 1-0 at Ashton Gate.
Blackburn should not risk anything
They should hold on for the last ten minutes
Fulham take the lead at Hillsboro
Hopefully, Bristol City is better at scoring than Bristol Palin. That would give Reddy the Blues.
I just checked the table. That doesn't appear to affect anything in the standings.
I guess I want Rovers to go down...just to be spiteful for the 95 Season!
Blackburn have a penalty AND Brentford down to ten men
Nat Clyne down injured against his former team as he felt the full force of a challenge from Ryan Bertrand.
Sounds like denying a goal scoring opportunity.
If this goes in, then all eyes to Ashton Gate... that's the only game that would change everything
To City deserve to go down for their idiotic manager change when they were close to the play offs!
Goal 3-1 up
Agreed. A three goal swing needed between Forest and Blackburn
Also , Reddy will be declared a genius for that and he is definitely not one.
Firnino picked Romeu's pocket , but his shot was well blocked.
Norwich are 3-0 up now over QPR. Josh Murphy with the goal.
The Reading Railroad giving Richard Burton an upset tummy as they go 2-4 up at his place.
The Canaries negating what's happening to the Tractor Boys to even it out for East Anglia.
Blackburn need three more goals to stay up!
The playoffs look like BEIN:
Not a Big Club vs the Terriers in an all Yorkshire contest.
The other semi is a short train ride for Kate on the Reading Railroad.
I'm predicting that Bob and Kate will be hosting Premier League Footie next season. You heard it first on the LOB.
Wolves end their season with a 1-0 win against PNE.
Dwight Gayle races through to put Newcastle 3-0 up. He's the league's top scorer this season.
Jon Champion explained what happened at Sty. Andrews. A Chinese takeover resulted in Gary Rowett being sacked and replaced by Napoleon. The Saints for some reason are also having a Chinese takeover. Why ruin a well run club?
Blackburn have won 3-1 but .....
Jack Grealish scores for Villa against Brighton and Newcastle are going to be champions!
10 man Villa tie it up
The Championship would go to Newcastle
Forest finish 3-0 - they're safe.
Forest have won and are safe
A late Villa goal hands the Toon the title as I predicted back in August
The commentator was saying Blackburn are down....not if Bristol City score
96th minute at Ashton Gate
The Canaries score a late goal to thrash QPR 4-0
There is one minute of stoppage time left at Ashton Gate. Birmingham are almost safe. Blackburn are almost in League One. On the pitch and in the away end at Griffin Park, they wait desperately for good news.
IT'S OVER
BIRIMINGHAM HAVE WON AND ARE SAFE!!
A Premier League Champ is in the Third Tier
It's over at Ashton Gate and Brum hold on to win 0-1. Blackburn are down despite ending the season with 51 points.
That's it at Villa Park
Newcastle are Champions
Brighton players are laying on the ground as if they went down
They've finished - Blackburn have been relegated along with Wigan and Rotherham.
Hopefully they will be thrashed by Pompey next season. Actually, those will probably be two of the favorites for promotion to the Championship.
It's 1-1 in a Glasgow Derby between Thistle and Rangers
Is that the first Premier League champion relegated to the third tier? Probably. We were the last First Division champs and then relegated to the third tier.
Now back to the dull spectacle at Anfield, where there have been precious few chances.
The second leg of the two L1 semis will kick off about 45 minutes after the match at the EM ends.
I think that's correct, Bob. A dubious honor for Blackburn, albeit with 51 points.
Flicking through the channels on BEIN... 8 has a live shot of the Emirates!! Why?
Before I forget, congratulations are in order for Mildenhall Town.
Of course, Leicester were there BEFORE they were champions
I don't like this time of the year with the football coming to an end. Three of the four tables hanging on my basement door are finished for the season
Hard to believe that all three relegation places from the Prem may be decided by this time next week.
There will still be plenty of footie over the summer.
I do feel for you Bob
What a horrible streak at the end of the season for your lot
April and May were horrible
Reading A L 0-1
Brentford A L 0-2
Preston H W 3-0
Newcastle A D 1-1... equalizing with last kick of the game
Wolves H L 0-1
Burton A L 1-2
Norwich H D 3-3
Wigan A D 1-1
Sorry reading
There's the Confeds Cup and the Gold Cup.
Forest Green Rovers and Daggenham kick the second leg of their playoff from Gloucestershire at 10 to see who plays Tranny in the playoff Final at Wembley.
This one is really boring - bring back the Championship!
Rangers score a late winner to win 1-2 at Partick Thistle, which really doesn't affect anything in the SPL.
Agreed. Sad to say that the late one probably won't be any better, especially as Jose plans to play the reserves and Arsene is more interested in not criticizing like Jose.
One added minute of this dross.
Bring on Arsenal and United!
It's 0-0 to end a really boring first half.
The ref mercifully blows for half time. I'm off to whip out the smelling salts.
United won't make the morning exciting!
I was supposed to playing an outdoor game this morning for my principal's team
The second half is underway from Anfield.
Second half underway
I would rather watch your match than any of those on the telly this morning.
I should have gone
Bouffal wins a corner off of Can
The corner is out for another.
Let's hope for better from this lot in the second half. A Soton goal would certainly perk things up.
Have you read some of Mike's comments on WhatsApp Bob?
My cousin and husband just sent this video at Pompey
It's happening right now
https://video.twimg.com/ext_tw_video/861206317956038656/pu/vid/1280x720/AcGXSs2U5LgN7b4u.mp4
Agreed. The two MAnc clubs are in the driver's seat for a CL place if the Saints win.
Everyone is saying how easy Liverpool's run-in is ...but those are the teams they struggle against!
They beat all the big boys
It is all very predictable still from Liverpool, with Milner seemingly their best outlet from left-back.
I wouldn't count Pool in the CL just yet.
Klopp complaining about the time wasting... you're only allowed to complain if you don't do it yourself!!
I just read about Mildenhall Town's fantastic season, probably the best in their history. Did you want to hear about it?
Are you Bob?
Mike doesn't know where the Turnlington Arms is... sounds a lot like Worlington
Agreed. Klopp is such a hypocrite.
There is nice little ground down the end of the road where the Mildenhall swimming pool is
Mildenhall Town ran away with the Eastern Counties Premier League and were approved for promotion to the Isthmian League Division One North. They also won the Eastern Counties League Cup. We need to wish the Hall well in their first ever season in the 8th tier, which is nosebleed territory for them
Manchester United are unbeaten in the league since OCTOBER 23rd's hammering by Chelsea
Is this the least impressive unbeaten streak in history?
I think the house where we lived was just a few blocks away. I think the ground is around the corner from Snushall's.
It has to be. Strange that it's the longest unbeaten streak in our history. The only positive is that we still have a slight chance of qualifying for the CL based on our league position.
Penalty for Liverpool!
Wow, well done Mildenhall
BUGGER
Liverpool have a penalty
PENALTY LIVERPOOL. APPEALING FOR A PENALTY CAN WORK!
What happened there
The ball hit the arm... who knows what was going on
Milner won't miss
I hate those handball calls. Of course it hit Jack Stevens' arm but did he know anything about it?
How much did young Jack Stephens really know about that? A lucky break for the Pool.
Jamie Milner is cool as ice in these situations.
SAVED!!!!
Oh my! Great save by Forster!
WAY HAY!!!! GREAT PENALTY SAVE BY FORSTER FROM MILNER.
I don't think you can blame Milner there - it was a good penalty but the save was better.
Justice done as that never should have been a penalty
The Saints missed a penalty last week and saved one today
Agreed
Bob, you never told Mike where the pub is
Of course, United won't beat the Saints either.... can you say draw?
Sturridge and Lallana come on to bolster Liverpool's attack.
Besides the step up , the other big change for the Hall will be travel. Their matches were in Suffolk, Norfolk, northern Essex , and Eastern Cambridgeshire. Now that extends to all of East Anglia except for Western Cambridgeshire and London north of the Thames.
Shane Long on for Gabbiadini
Bob is ignoring me!
Interesting facts about he Drop from the Championship from the BBC
History suggests Blackburn can consider themselves pretty unlucky to have gone down with more than 50 points.
That hasn't happened since 2013, when Wolves and Peterborough went down with 51 and 54 points respectively.
As little as 41 points could have saved a team last term, and just 42 points the year before that.
But, despite going unbeaten for their final five games of this season - winning three - 51 points wasn't enough for Rovers, who go down on goal difference.
If Blackburn can keep their players then they and Pompey must be favorites to go back up to the Championship
The early morning and this dreadful match may have put Bob to sleep.
Thanks Bob
Hall's local derbies next season will be against Bury Town and Sohanm Town Rangers
Just left a message for Mike on WhatsApp about the pub. It's actually called the Tolllington Arms - my mistake.
I just went to their website
They won the Double!!
Sparky is asking for walkies, but knowing my luck, three goals will be scored.
I'm really hoping for better from your lot. This has been dreadful.
I was going to take Shadow for a walk in between matches so I can listen to build up on my phone... should go now
You heard it first on the Goldy Sportscenter!
Milner goes on a sol run and wins a corner.
Wow - competition for Nocito Sports Center!!
Uh oh - the audio has gone all wonky on NBC SN.
Does this open it up for United AND Arsenal?
LOL! Another piece of trivia.Halls' uniforms are similar to Burton Albion's.Hard to believe their ground is just around the corner from where I lived.
Well, Arsenal would be ten back with three games in hand... still not in their own hands
It will do. If United win at the EM they are in a good position to finish in the top four.
Please don't score Liverpool
All of his injuries have taken a toll on Sturridge.
United line up
Not weak at all
No Rashford but a strong side
Winning the EL means automatic qualification to the Group Stage of the CL while fourth place means a two legged playoff.
Yes... but let's have both routes stay open
Liverpool CAN NOT get a corner off this appeal. Klopp with some sort of gymnastics!
Pool have gone six without scoring against the Saints.
The Line ups
Cech
Holding
Kosc
Monreal
Ox
Xhaka
Ramsey
Gibbs
Ozil
Sanchez
Welbeck
United
De Gea
Tuanzebe
Jones
Smalling
Darmian
Carrick

Rooney
Pogpants and Rash on the bench
Klopp sure wasn't arguing about Minnie's hand ball outside the Pool box.
Into four added minutes
COME ON YOU SAINTS
Four more minutes of this dross.
Klopp has potential as a ball boy.
