Lakenheath Old Boys
We are all former students at Lakenheath High School and other public schools in East Anglia. We were in school in the 70s and 80s and drank deeply from the well of British culture of those decades - the pints, the telly, and of course the footie!

The national anthems were played and the reactions are the same as back in the day,
A moment of silence for the Terrorist attack last weekend in London. Impeccably observed.
They're off from Hampden Park!
Scotland in their traditional navy blue shirts and white shorts while England are clad in all red. Harry Kane skippering the Three lions and Scott Brown skippering the Scots.
A sunny day in Glasgow. Perfect weather for watching a football match.
Scott the Scot Brown already in th book for sandwiching Delle Alli.
Anya wins a corner for the Scots. The corner from Snoddy is cleared by the first man then he passes to Leigh Griffiths , who shoots straight at Joe Hart
Andy Robertson wins another Scots corner.
Livermore more like Liverwurst with a clearance that could have gone anywhere, but it's over the bar for another corner that's headed away by Kane.
Walker chests out a cross from ANya for another Scottish corner.
The Scots with lots of early pressure , but no end product.
how hot does it have to get before Dele Alli wears a short sleeved shirt. Is he worried his collection of naff tats will fare. Hello chaps.
The Three Lions first sustained possession of the match end with a chipped pass from Walker to Kane , who turns Berra and shoots well over past the on rushing Craig Gordon.
High wide and horrible for Biggles when he should have dropped it off to Alli
Hello Gooner. Great to chat with you. I would think 70 degree weather is short sleeve weather, but I guess fashion is more important to some modern footballers.
The most surprising result yesterday was Andorra's shock 1-0 victory vs the Magyars, effectively ending their hopes of qualifying for the World Cup. If the Magyars are held scoreless in both the Faroes and Andorra then they have no business competing next summer.
Another great possession for England and Kane cannot connect with a pass from Lallana . Another great chance for Candy Kane.
The Three Lions have settled down after early dominance by the Scots. Just as I remembered during my childhood.
Robertson clears a pass from Walker for the Three lions first corner.
Have you ever seen Marcelo have to run to the touch line to collect a routine pass from midfield, over and over again. Does Dyer not like Bertrand? So poor.
The corner is easily cleared.
Definitely A Real difference in class between the the Spuds and European champs for sure./
Leigh Griffiths charges down a clearance from Joe Hart. It's a feeling of deja vu.
The Danes take the lead in Kazakhstan. Borat will not be pleased.
Clever from Biggles to try a chip over a stranded Gordon.
A moment of madness for the Scots as Craig Gordon rushed out of the box to head clear, then Kane lobbed him and Kieran Tierney cleared off the line. The rebound from Rash was deflected for a corner. The Three Lions getting closer to taking the lead.
Is Biggles related to Biggles McKane?
Rash has a shot deflected by Tierney for a corner after a pass from Delle Alli that was pushed too far wide on a break. It looks like offside was given.
Another good buildup wasted by Alli's poor ball to a very well positioned Rashford.
Aye, it's that heroic RAF haircut that brings Biggles to mind
Lallana has a shot deflected into the side netting for a corner after a nice turn.
What's Biggles doing in the left channel? He's the least central center-forward in English history.
Craig Gordon fists away the corner.
Great explanations, Gooner.
Livermore has a powerful long range effort fisted over by Craig Gordon.
Delle Alli takes advice from the Gooner and changes to a shorty sleeve shit in 70 degree weather.
I'd forgotten that Livermore was on the pitch but that was a very good shot off the half-volley. That subsequent yellow, not so much.
Livermore booked for trying to make Livewurst out of Snoddy.
It's 0-0 at the half with no stoppage time played.
A very quick 45 minutes comes to a close. Nil-nil, England the better team, but not good.
In the other Group C match, Slovenia took the lead vs Malta in stoppage time.
Two 1-0 halftime leads and two 0-0 scorelines. Hopefully, there will be more second half goals.
Agreed, Gooner. An accurate assessment of the match. England look the more likely team to score, but far from a stellar performance.
Wee Gordon makes a change as James MacArthur is on for the injured Jim Morrison, who did not last through till the end of time.
The second half is underway.
The Three Lions have a really meaningless friendly on Tuesday in Paris in a Tale of Two Cities.
Armstrong cuts out a pass for a Three lions corner. The corner from Rash is headed out by MacArhtur, the first man
Then Liverwurst ha s a shot deflect on to the post ,and after a scramble in the box, Cahill has a shot deflected for a corner. The closes England have come to scoring.
Gooner will be delighted to read that Chris Eriksen has scored with a spot kick to put the Danes two up against the ten man Kzakhs.,
Scotland can't continue their defensive chaos without being punished, can they?
Oh, I admire that little Dane. He stepped in for Modric without a pause. I wish him no luck when we play him, but otherwise, he's undeniably classy.
Robertson shoots high and wide off a pass from Leigh Griffiths.
Agreed. He's a great winger.
I'm glad the ref was close to that, because my heart nearly stopped when Griffiths went over inside the box. The replay showed that it would have been a soft penalty.
And after it, England has allowed the Scots a bit of an advantage in possession. They were rattled by the closeness of that.
Needless from Dyer. He'll miss the France game and serve that ban, right?
Armstrong shoots over with a long range effort on a Scots break. Dier is booked for a foul that he committed on the break when the ref played the advantage. He will be suspended for the World Cup Qualifier in Malta in September.
He won't be suspended for France because that's a friendly. Southgate should be able to find a suitable replacement for that caliber opposition.
Good sub this from Scotland. It's little irritant Davies coming on. He's lively but terribly irritating as well. Fouly little Jock he is.
Southgate and Wee Gordon have something in common that most people would not notice.
Wee Ryan Fraser will cause the Three Lions problems if he comes on. He'splays with a similar style to that of Wee Gordon back in the day, but more of a winger.
Rash on for Ox and Wee Ryan on for Snoddy as both managers opt for more width,
Superb reflex save by Craig Gordon from a close range header from Captain Kane. Delle Alli scuffs the rebound straight to Gordon.
Good. Rashford has not propered today and it's not his fault that there was little service for him. Chamberlain on. Fraser on for Scotland not Davies. Fraser is similarly irritating.
Biggles with a header that Gordon instinctively beats away.
Craig Gordon adjusts after misjudging a back pass from Celtic teammate, Kieran Tierney.
CHAMBERLAIN! 1-0
GOAL !!!! THE OX GIVES THE THREE LIONS THE LEAD WITH A CURLING SHOT
FINALLY! A bit of class from the Ox who dribbled by two defenders and buried a shot past possibly unsighted Gordon. Maybe that will open the floodgates.
The Ox doing the Gunners proud and wishing they would play Celtic every week after getting past Scott Brown , Tierney , then shooting between two defenders and past Craig Gordon with a great curling effort.
A poor challenge by Scott Brown, who has already been booked as he tripped Delle Alli. The Italian ref is in a lenient mood and lets him get away with it.
Naughty from Brown who really should face some discipline for that shot on Alli.
The free kick from Ryan Bertrand is headed well over by Dier.
Ten man Kazakhstan pull one back vs the Danes and now trail 1-2.
Leigh Griffiths wide with a long range effort.
Flippin' Lalala balloons his headed over when just meeting the ball would have resulted in a goal. I renew my disdain for whatever Southgate thinks he adds to the first eleven. I'm tired of this good engine making him first in contention.
The Danes restore their two goal advantage in Kazakhstan as they now lead 1-3
The final roll of the dice from Wee Gordon as Chris Martin , a striker, is on for Anya.
The Engine that could probably will not next summer in Russia.
Delle Alli takes for ever to get off the pitch at Hampden as he's replaced by Sterling./
Slovenia goes two up vs Malta.
It's Lalala that deserves the hook, but Alli who gets it in favor of Sterling. Alli grew into the game after a tepid 30 minutes and Lalala has been rubbish. Really uninspired game management from Southgate. What's next, Defoe?
Wee Ryan wins a free kick off a clumsy challenge by Cahill about 25 yards from goal.
GOAL !!!WHAT A TIME FOR LEIGH GRIFFITHS TO SCORE HIS FIRST GOAL FOR SCOTLAND. A SUPERB CURLING FREE KICK THAT DECEIVED HART. NOW 1-1.
Shit. That's undeserved from Scotland who though they've had chances have been really bad. England have no body to blame but themselves. They should still be three clear even with this goal from Griffith. What have they left in the tank to salvage this?
Mixed decision making from Soutgate. A great move to bring on the Ox, who gave the Three Lions the lead, but nullified by bringing off Delle Sandwich instead of Lallana.
Chris Martin wins a soft free kick from the same spot that the Jocks scored.
GOAL!!! RUDDY NORAH! GRIFFITHS DOES IT AGAIN WITH THE SAME FREE KICK FROM THE SAME SPOT , BUT IN THE OPPOSITE CORNER. THE JOCKS HAVE COME FROM BEHIND TO LEAD 2-1.
into stoppage time.
Good lord. An exact copy puts Scotland ahead. Two clumsy fouls, two peaches of free kicks and Scotland are going to win this. Horrible from England.
The Ulstermen win 0-1 in Azebaijan thanks to a stoppage time goal from LUFC's Stuart Dallas. Bob will be pleased.
The Three Lions have a free kick just outside the Jocks box., Craig Gordon beats away a free kiick that was a real Dier.
GOAL !!!! WHAT A FINISH AS IT'S DESMOND AT HAMPDEN THANKS TO A GOAL FROM CAPTAIN KANE.
Dafoe on for Liverwurst.
A dramatic finale is called to an end as it finishes Desmond at Hampden Park with three of the goals being scored in the final five minutes.
A great volley from Candy Kane off a long cross from Ryan Bertrand. AN instinctive finish from the Captain of the day.
Slovenia defeated Malta 2-0
The Danes won 1-3 in the land of Borat and the Ulstermen won 0-1 in Azerbaijan thanks to a stoppage time goal from LUFC's Stuart Dallas.
Next on FS 2 is Germany vs San Marino, which if nothing else is guaranteed to have goals.
Ridiculous! Scotland throw it away in the dying seconds. Kane isn't picked up and scores to spare the English blemishes.
And to add insult to injury, the universal sign of mediocrity, Defoe gets another 60 seconds on the pitch, all the proof needed that England must do something to improve the chance-taking.
It's still a fairer result than if the jocks had stolen this one. They're terrible, and they don't belong in Russia. They managed 2 stupid human tricks from Griffiths, but very little else. England must create more, and take their chances more efficiently. Better opposition would have beaten us today. Time to do something productive today. Cheerio.
Cheers, Gooner. Have a great day. Hope you will be around tomorrow evening for El Classico.
Thanks for keeping the home fires burning this afternoon, chaps. I really enjoyed reading your comments. I hope to be around for the US v. Mexico proceedings tomorrow night.
