First Super Sunday of the Season
We've had a great start to the season these last couple of days. Twenty-Five goals in the first 8 games(including a nil niller) and with two of the most attractive games still to come. Our opener is way go up north to newly promoted Newcastle taking on one of the title favorites Spurs. Can Spurs go one better than last season and with their first title since 1961? A lot of you on PPP think they will. The first weekend definitely brings to mind...Saving the Best for Last!! My beloved Manchester United host the Hammers. Can United get off to a flying start and get the leg up on Chelsea and Liverpool?

Morning Boys
I am up early and watching the highlights show. It's amazing how little they show of some games! They showed about 30 seconds and one shot of the nil niller at St. Mary's.. There was more to show than that
Match of the Day showed a lot of chances from the St Mary's and the Hawthorns matches.... here we got not much all
LOVED watching Match of the Day... brought back memories
NBCSN's base to day is from Old Trafford... Hope it will back to the Theater of Dreams and not the Theater of Draws
Show has started.... what a beautiful place that is!!!
They really need to do something about the Sir Bobby Charlton stand. It isn't a bad stand but so much smaller than the rest. The problem is there is a railroad track right behind it... Make a tunnel!!!!
Sell out at SJP
Line ups have been announced from Newcastle
From the Beeb
Newcastle give starts to summer recruits Florian Dejeune and Javier Manquillo, while Christian Atsu, signed on a permanent deal after a loan spell at the club last year, also plays.
Newcastle XI: Elliot, Manquillo, Clark, Lejeune, Dummett, Hayden, Shelvey, Atsu, Perez, Ritchie, Gayle.
Tottenham give a start to new summer signing...oh wait.
Kyle Walker has departed, but Kyle Walker-Peters is very much still there, he starts at right back. Usual suspects Harry Kane and Dele Alli are in.
Tottenham XI: Lloris, Walker-Peters, Alderweireld, Vertonghen, Davies, Dembele, Dier, Eriksen, Sissoko, Alli, Kane.
Hope you didn't mind me sending you the video of Match of the Day. I love this new link. Final score was great and then MotD
I really hope it keeps going
There are links for BBC 1, BBC2, ITV, ITV2, MUTV, Gold(lots of old Brit Comedies), and others
The boys are pitch side... As an ex Gunner is talking... PA starts blaring!! Lovely! Rebeca and Le Socks up in the little studio
Speaking of stands being smaller
SJP... very weird looking... three stands the size of the Sir Bobby Charlton stand and then the fourth being three times the height!
The big stand actually is two sides of the ground
Kick off is at 8:30... I am off to shower and shave. I'll be here for the start
Good morning, UWS Here to join you for the first Sunday of the season
There's a Championship match kicking off at the same time as the match from SJP. It's the Canaries vs the Black Cats from CR. Great choices for Geordie fans.
This is not a pun, but a fact. Kyle Walker-Peters replaces Kyle Walker at right back for the Spuds.
Not liking the Spuds away kit.
The teams are in the tunnel at SJP. Incredibly the Toon thrashed the Spuds 5-1 the last time the teams met despite being relegated. It was the Toon's previous Prem match as well.
I'm back all clean and less scruffy!
Morning MUR
I agree with you about Spurs
I prefer them being yellow for 2nd strip....it's what they used in the 70s
They're off from SJP.
We are off
Is this the beginning of a title winning campaign for the Spuds in a return to Premier League Football for the Toon.
I remember the yellow strip well.
Not including the Championship
Newcastle's last trophy won was the 1969 Fairs Cup
Last domestic trophy... 1955 FA Cup(their sixth triumph)
Last of four titles 1927
Stunning!!
The Canaries vs the Black Cats has kicked off .. Fred and Sunshine have teams playing in the sunshine . Both matches involving Geordie teams. Yellows will be interested as well.
Agreed . For a big club they have underachieved
The Toon making a bright start
Dwight Gayle just over off a throw , but he looked offside.
The Spuds then go straight up the other end and win a corner.
No ESPN3 link for the Championship game
Paul Dummett appears to have strained something as he is down and looks to be replaced by last season's captain, Jamaal Lascelles.
Don't get it... short corner...everyone's happy to win a corner. You bring up all the big boys and then you just put the ball in play and everyone is out of position
I think that's only for Staurday matches , but they are showing NAt 20 cricket in case you're interested. Also Barca vs Real in the Spanish Super Cup this afternoon.
Agreed. Some of these modern tactics are baffling. That may explain why some teams are so successful on the break.
Finally some pressure from the favorites
Everyone is complaining about the lack of signings for Spurs. Who do they want to bring in? The starting line up plus a few more are good enough to win the league. You won't bring in anyone big and have them not start... why rock the boat!
Wages...that's another matter. They will lose players that they don't pay
I've watched the Test Matches on ESPN...love it
Sissy expectedly being booed by the locals.
Agreed about the Spuds. They have the complete team. Why ruin that?
Ex Toon Sissoko getting booed every time he touches it
Spurs have a corner...the do go 'LONG'... fails to beat the first man!
Lascelles clears a pass from Delle Alli for a Spuds corner that is headed wide by the former Toon player
I know it is fact but Spurs finish second last season and third the season before that but let's be real. They were second behind Leicester but stopped playing when it was over
They were the only challengers to the Foxes
The Spuds win another corner.
A third corner to Spurs.... SHORT... SIGH
Fans think there is a penalty. Ref blows up... for offside
Dwight Gayle appeared to have been fouled by Kyle Walker Marin Peters, but the offside flag was raised. The Spuds got away with one.
The big teams get the breaks?
Eriksen straight to Elliott.
I just noticed that there is a full schedule of Championship matches in midweek. Ten on Tuesday and two on Wednesday. Leeds host the Cottagers on Tuesday
The media complain that Spurs haven't spent and money and then they complain that United or City have spent too much
Kieran Clark fouls Kyle Walker Martin Peters, The free kick from Eriksen is headed tamely by Kane straight to Elliott.
Hope there are links
Delle Alli appears to have wound up Jamaal LAscelles.
Dele Alli gets shirty.... he needs to grow up. You don't need to be a punk
That was a hard fair tackle...he has to block off the guy as he ran past... Grow up
That's the bloody media . Always wanting to complain. Agreed about Alli. He's a footballer , not a boxer.
Perhaps he's trying to intimidate the player into not making any more of those tackles. It can have the opposite effect.
Atsu wins a corner off of Kyle Walker Martin Peters
Now Newcastle do a short corner... it just the hip thing to do... not dangerous.... just hip
The Spuds break off the corner and after several passes in the Toon box, Eriksen shoots through Kieran Clark's legs and just wide of Rob Elliot's post.
Cameron Jerome finds the net but it is chalked off for offside
Normal service resumed? Goals in other leagues, but not in England.
I did read that this morning about United rejecting an offer from Spurs for Martial
I don't want him to go
Atsu goes on a run, but can't find anyone and Ben Davies clears for a Toon corner.
Corner to Newcastle
Finally into a dangerous area.... but no Toon players there! They had too many outside the box waiting for a short one!
The corner from MAtt Ritchie is headed away and Walker-Peters tackles Atsu for another Toon corner.
Corner to Newcastle...doesn't beat the first man or front post!
STUNNING
The corner from Shlevey is cleared or rather shelved.
Sunderland take the lead at Carrow Road
Lewis Grabban scores against his old club
Yellows will not be pleased about that update from CR.
Harry Kane booked for tackle from behind.
The Toon man looks really hurt
Is that two injury replacements inside 30 minutes?
Fred will be pleased that the Black Cats were Grabbban the lead on the scorers return to CR. That was a minute after the Canaries had a goal disallowed.
Fans get excited because Newcastle get a corner...why?
Decent cross that time
Yes. LAsclles came on for Dummett in the fifth minute
Newcastle will have to make the second change
Mebemba on for the injured Lejune.
I'm also glad that United rejected the offer.
What did teams do when there was only one sub? Or none.
I don't remember teams struggling to keep players on the field
Harry Kane has a header blocked off a corner from Ben Davies.
I hate when people like Mike Ashley brag about their wealth. Either invest in players or give back to the community.
Stupid foul by Alli
I think there's more injuries because everything happens quicker and injured players don't stay on like they did back in the day. That may explain why careers were shorter back then
I will be at bloody useless, pointless in=services on Tuesday and on the road to San Marcos on Wednesday.
Canaries fans will not be pleased about one of their former players scoring as the Black Cats were Grabban a lead there.
Nice old fashioned tackle by Dembele.
At least the Spuds aren't being thrashed like they were on their last visit here.
A tame long range effort by Eriksen is easily saved by Rob Elliott as Kevin Friend puts up the board to signal a triplet if minutes of stoppage time if not more.
Free kick chance for Spurs... quite a ways out....no shot taken...Useless chip
Dwight Gayle sandwiched by Delle Alli
The Black Cats one up at the half at CR.
HT... scoreless
Were't they watching the matches at the Em and VR??
It's 0-0 at the half at SJP in a half full of commitment, but lacking in real quality.
Teams out for the second half
Goals please
The second half is underway from SJP
Dwight Gayle was letting Andre Marriner know that he was not pleased about the no call for the penalty
What is the rolling around from Delle Alli.
WOW!!! Shelvey is off. Raffa not amused.
OMG!!
Deli Alli was being a child again... then did Shelvey stamp on him... He's seen a straight red
He did step on him on purpose.. but DA started it
Stop being such a punk
Did Delle Alli get him sent off. It was probably going to be just a booking. Really poor.
Lloris makes a near post save from Dwight Gayle.,
It was stupid from Jonjo but still!
If he hadn't been rolling around would Shelvey have been sent off?
again, Dele Alli doesn't have to be a punk
Great save by Elliot off a Kane shot.
Jonjo is suspended for the next three matches , so he will be shelved until the international break resumes.
Matt Ritchie booked for a foul on Delle Alli as Toon players are letting him know the are livid with him.
Punmeister...sigh
Again, it was stupid by Shelvey but Alli is at fault too
Should Mo Po sub Delle Alli before he gets injured or does something even more daft than he's already done?
Will Spurs do a City and Arsenal and get a win that might not have come
City deserved to win though
Hi there, boys. We're in the midst of packing up to head home to Fred-Town. I was unimpressed by the first half but I enjoyed reading your comments.
Dele Alli should have gotten a card for kicking the ball away
I am really starting to dislike him
Hiya Bob
Will you be traveling during the match?
God morning , Bob. Agreed about the first half. Glad you enjoyed the comments. Wishing you a safe trip home before your trip to ER on Tuesday.
Shadow is at me for walkies... I am going to have to take him so it will be done and dusted before the Big One
I have the Talksport App with commentary for the walk
Number one Son on for one of the Toon's former sons amidst a chorus of boos.
Enjoy the walkies. Elizabeth just got back from walkies with Sparky and said it was very hot.
Sunshine is being brought out to watch his beloved Spuds playing in the sunshine at SJP.
GOAL !!! HOME FANS WILL BE FURIOUS AS THE SHOWCASE VILLAIN, DELLE ALLI, VOLLEYS THE SPUDS INTO THE LEAD OFF A CHIPPED PASS FROM ERTIKSEN, WHO COLLECTED A PASS FROM HARRY KANE.
Yeah - we're checking out in the next half hour or so and then heading home.
Nicely worked goal by Spurs. They've got loads of weapons. That's why I picked them to win the lot this year.
GOAL !!! BEN DAVIES PUTS THE SPUDS TWO UP.
And another - brilliant stuff from Tottenham. Finished off by the fullback. Spurs looking a little Brazilian right now.
Both goals were twenty pass possessions that culminated in assist from Eriksen
The Spuds are helped by thew fact that they are a man up. They have had about 90% possession since Shelvey was sent off. Didn't look too threatening before then.
RUDDY NORAH! The Black Cats are now three up at CR.
Merino on for a Toon debut in place of Dwight Gayle.
I am back and heard both goals on the walk
It will take two more goals to put Spurs on top of the Terriers
Aiden McGeady out the Black Cats two up on the hour and former Canary , Lewis , was seen Grabban a second for the Black Cats.
Line ups announced at OT.... Not expected for United
De Gea,
Valencia, Baiily, Jones, Blind
Matic, Pogba, Mata,
Mhiki, Lukaku, Rashford
No Lindeloff, Herrera
Welcome back, UWS. Did they mention the goals at CR?
They didn't
I did see your update
I guess that's a decent lineup for United
Canaries get a goal back... OG
Grabban gets his hat-trick!
Lindeloff not even on the bench
The match at OT is not the only match in the Greater Manchester area. A local derby in L1 has just kicked off as Wigan host Bury.
Off goes Dele Alli...don't be so punkish
Delle Alli enjoys being the villain as he takes his sweet time comingoff the pitch to be replaced by Wanyama. Scored shortly after getting an opponent sent off.
That's an unusual way to be Grabban a hat-trick, but somehow, that will probably not get him the match ball.
West Ham's side
Hart
Zabaleta, Reid, Ogbonna, Masuaku, Fernandez, Obiang, Noble, Ayew, Arnautovic, Hernandez
It's 3-5 in a match in the Belgian league. Wish that was the case in this match
Will Chicha be booed? I don't think so.
Ben Davies booked as the Toon have a set piece.
The free kick is headed away and Kieran Clark volleys straight to Lloris.
Michael Jacobs gives Wigan the lead vs Bury.
Then Brucie's son ties it up for Bury two minutes later.
Spurs just keeping the ball now - this has been the most impressive display of the weekend, IMHO. We've picked a good 'un, MUR.
The final roll of the dice for Mo Po as Winks is on for Dembele.
We have, but they weren't really threatening until Shelvey was shelved.
This win will take Spurs into 3rd behind Huddersfield and City.....United will overtake both of them shortly!
Kane off the post!
OH!!! Harry Kane smacks a shot off the Sunday roast on a Sunday afternoon
Oh - Kane is inches away from getting his ton.
Bob will not be pleased that the Terriers are top of the pops. He doesn't care for that Toon.
Kane does have the ball in the net now - but it's ruled offside.
I'm off to finish up packing, lads. Enjoy the United match. Go on, you Red Devils!
That's it
Spurs win 2-0.... NOW FOR THE BIG ONE
From Sky
Worth noting that Mourinho has never lost a home match on a Sunday in all competitions in his managerial career, winning 86 and drawing 26 of 112 games. That's quite a record.
It's over at SJP as the Spuds win 0-2 , but it is a tainted win as both goals came after Shelvey was shelved by being sent off.
I would think that Jose Sunday streak will continue . Hope to see the Hammers get a hammering.
Cheers, Bob. Wishing you a safe trip.
Safe trip Bob and Kate
The Black Cats win 1-3 at CR. Sunshine and Fred's teams start the day with away wins.
Everywhere Jose has been... won the Championship in his second year...just saying
United and West Ham start the match in 12th and 13th
Who will climb?
Pogba has to step it up in a United shirt. It needs to start now
NBCSN are in the tunnel and not at commercial
Here they come
COME ON MAN U
COME ON MAN U
COME ON MAN U
I want Old Trafford to be loud too!
Heard they gave Hernandez a nice welcome
Again, West Ham won't play at home until September 11
United attacking the Stretford End in the first half!
Bugger
WE ARE OFF
Looks like Miki is quite central
Off from OT
COME ON MAN UNITED!
Terrible control from Pogba... come on.. concentrate
Not good decision making there by Miki
Hernandez only 29
Should have never been sold
Hoping for a Goldy household hat-trick :
Fred's Black Cats won by two goals
Sunshine's Spuds won by two goals.
Hoping our United win.
What the hell Valencia
Arguing wth the ref and West Ham break!
Sunshine got fed and got the lining to his cage changed while Fred Fred got his litter box cleaned. That l;east that can be done to award victory
Not great skippering from Valencia.
Stop saying the 24 points... they stopped trying to concentrate on the EL
United are not attacking much right now
United's bench looks really strong
Nice run by Lukaku.. strength and speed
The Chunk goes on a speedy break down the left and wins a corner.
Corner flicked on...just missed runners
COME ON UNITED
They keep saying United haven't won the league in four years.... I remember 26 years!!
Guess which team hasn't won the league in 27 years
Too much passing right now
Get it in the mixer!!!
LIVERPOOL!!!
Nice turn by Pogba
Useless cross
Mhiki with a weak effort
High and wide by Miki after a sliced clearance from Ogbonna.
Well done! Thought you might enjoy that question.
Not a good cross again... COME ON
Just down the road, former United player , Nick Powell, gives Wigan a 2-1 lead vs Bury
Nice passing but no penetration
Rashford falls... he goes down way too easily
Nice pass by Matic
Corner
Miki wins a United corner at the Stretford End,.
United win another corner
Arnautovic clears for another Man Yoo corner.
Jose complaining about time wasting already
What kind of back pass was that Jones!!
Old Trafford sounds good
Pogba looking a little Fred Astaire with the fancy foot work.
ooh, United almost in!!
I really like Matic
