Lakenheath Old Boys
We are all former students at Lakenheath High School and other public schools in East Anglia. We were in school in the 70s and 80s and drank deeply from the well of British culture of those decades - the pints, the telly, and of course the footie!

There are a number of fascinating narratives going on with the early one. There is Wayne Rooney in the fixture that made his name back in 2002, when he first scored in the Prem.
But most eyes are on the two managers who are both under pressure for different reasons.
Good morning, Bob. I'm up with hot cuppa,
I heard them talking about Fat Ronnie. It is mainly about the managers. That goal from Roon was spectacular even if it was many years ago.
The East Anglian Derby is on ESPN 3. The Canaries are one up at PR midway through the second half.
The teams coming out now:
Everton (3-5-2): Pickford; Keane, Jagielka, Williams; Kenny, Gueye, Sigurdsson, Vlasic, Baines; Rooney, Calvert-Lewin.
Subs: Robles, Mirallas, Martina, Klaassen, Davies, Lookman, Niasse.
Arsenal (3-4-3): Cech; Koscielny, Mertesacker, Monreal; Bellerín, Ramsey, Xhaka, Kolasinac; Özil, Sánchez, Lacazette.
Subs: Macey, Wilshere, Giroud, Walcott, Holding, Iwobi, Coquelin.
Referee: Craig Pawson.
Morning, MUR - I'm brewing up the cuppa as we type. Hope you're weekend is going well.
Spain one up vs Iran at the half in the quarters of the U-17 World Cup
Thanks, Bob. It's been a great weekend. Feeling well rested since I took off Friday. Melanie is visiting us even though she hasn't been at the house too often. She leaves midway through the second half of the late match today.
They're off from Goodison.
And we're away - Arsenal getting underway at Goodison Park. Jon Champion and Andy Townsend on the microphones.
Jon Champion and David Prutton on the mic. Craig Pawson officiating where he may do plenty of barking today
That does sound nice.
Jon Champion will be thinking that neither team has lived up to his name for over a generation, LOL!
Oh - Arsenal cut Everton apart early on there but Ramsey put it wide.
The Gunners should have taken the lead. Alexis passed to Ozil , who passed to Ramsey and Pickford must have finger tipped his shot around the post.
The Toffees were torn apart again as Alexis was put through and Pickford forced a corner. More pressure from the Gunners off the corner.
It's as if the Toffees never left the dressing room.
Just under a quarter of an hour remaining and the Canaries still holding on to a narrow lead at PR. Yellows will be pleased.
Arsenal in full flow already.
I wonder if Yellows is at the match? He's got season tickets to CR but I don't know if he goes to away matches.
The Toffees torn apart again and Pickford forced to make a near post save. I didn't see it , but read about it in Lacazette.
Hope he went. I think it's only about a 35 mile trip. It's a noon kickoff, so he would have need to have woken up early.
Oh - now Lacazette pulls a point blank stop out of an excellent Pickford.
OH!!!!! I just read about a spectacular save of a wicked deflected shot by Pickford in Lacazette.
The Toffees are sure living up to their name today due to their soft centre.
GOAL !!!! ROOM SCORES A SPECTACULAR GOAL TO GIVE THE TOFFEES THE LEAD AGAINST THE RUN OF PLAY
GOAL! Oh, my - it's that man Wayne Rooney! He's done it again.
1-0 Toffees!
A great tackle by Gaye and the ball broke to Roon , who scored with a spectacular finish in the upper 90.
What must Arsene be thinking as Pickford makes a string of World class saves then the Toffees take the lead with their first attack of the match
Now the Gunners have defensive woes as Calvert=- Lewin forces Cech into awayward clearance.
Gooners may think that was a foul in the build up to the goal, but looks a superb tackle, IMHO.
Wenger is losing his mind about a supposed foul by Gueye against Xhaka in the move that led to Rooney's goal. I think the Everton man got the ball. You?
Now Ashley Williams is stupidly booked for obstruction.
Ashley Williams picks up a yellow card for a clear foul now and Arsenal have a good free kick chance.
Sanchez takes and Pickford spills it. Ramsey drills it into Pickford's body and it's cleared.
Definitely a fair tackle, mate.
Pickford should be a clear pick for England.
I just read about Ashley Williams blocking a shot for a corner while reading Lacazette.
I agree - he's been a beast already today.
I don't think that the Rooney goal changes the picture of this match. Arsenal were dominating Everton before it and are still doing that now. They just need to finish off their chances.
Spain goes two up vs Iran in the quarters of the U-17 World Cup.
Agreed, but if the Toffees go two up then it will be an uphill battle for the Gunners.
Naughty by Bellerin on Gueye.
It's over at Pr as the Canaries hung on to win 0-1 thanks to a presidential goal by James Maddison. Yellows will be delighted.
Spain go three up vs Iran.
Nacho wins a corner off of Kenny , not Dalglish
True - Everton have the ability to hit them on the break.
Iran pulls one back vs Spain , but still trails 3-1.
Really clumsy by Ashley Williams, who seems to be begging for a card.
Ashley Williams is in trouble again now. He's riding a fine line now that he's been booked.
Bellerin straight at Pickford after several Gunners long range efforts were blocked.
The free kick comes in and shots are raining around Pickford's goal. Somehow he's been able to keep them out for half an hour but an Arsenal goal seems to be coming soon.
Will Vlasic put him in a real pickle.
Gueye booked for a foul from behind on Alexis.
Pawson will be on all fours and with the scent of a bloodhound trying to sniff out incidents where he can show some cards.
GOAL !!!! NACHO TIES IT UP FOR THE GUNNERS. THIS ONE WAS COMING AS PICKFORD SUPERBLY SAVED A LONG RANGE EFFORT AND NACHO SQUEEZED THE ROUND IN AT THE NEAR POST.
GOAL! And there it is! Monreal has his Nachos as he rifles in a rebound.
1-1!
As you were stating, it was just a matter of time before the Gunners tied it up. Gooner must be delighted.
Nacho and Calvert-Lewin being barked at by Pawson so that they do not go on Craig's list.
Pickford superbly blocks from Sanchez at close range for a corner off a pass from Ozil. Pickford punches away the corner.
A pair of minutes of stoppage time.
Two minutes of stoppage time now.
HI Boys
Sorry I have been a miss the first half
I slept in after forgetting to set the alarm. I joined the match moments after Rooney's goal.
Match has been fast and entertaining
Half time almost here
Calvert-Lewin heads over a free kick from Siggy.
It's 1-1 at the end of a breathtaking half.
Good morning, UWS. Great to have you on board.
Why the hell aren't Arsenal wearing red!!!!!
The Gunners have out shot the Toffees 17-3, lead 9-1 with shots on target, meaning Pickford has made eight saves, lead half a dozen to nil in corners and have 72% possession. How are the Gunners not leading?
The Baggies didn't change against the Saints yesterday. Great point.
Spain has defeated Iran 3-1.
The shirts didn't clash when Rooney last scored for the Toffees against the Gunners
I'll give United credit that they 99% of the time wear red when they can
I think they didn't in the League Cup earlier this season... which. really annoyed me
The second half is underway as Tom Davies is on for Ashley Williams/
What will happen with Koeman if Everton lose today?
Could he lose him job after an Arsenal loss?
Sunshine being fed so he's not hungry for the late match. He thinks the team in black is laughable.
I'm not sure, but he and Slaven could be walking the plank. I think I read about something like this in one of Shakespeare's plays.
Toffees are livid Kos Baines was fouled and Pawson waved play on. Craig is now on their list.
Morning, UWS - welcome to the party. How are you, mate?
The ire of the Toffees fans was even listed on page 12 of Lacazette.
Arenal haven't won away from home yet this season.
Lost to Stoke
Lost to Liverpool
Drew at Chelsea
Lost to Watford
It's A Mersey vs North London Sunday. Did anyone notice that?
I'm doing well Bob
I just found out that Siena have a scrimmage today against RPI this afternoon at 1... I don't really want to go!!
Ozil puts the Gunners in the lead!
Vlasic didn't score, but the Gunners sure were in a pickle then
GOAL !!! OZIL SCORES AT THE OTHER END OF THE PITCH.
GOAL! Arsenal inevitably take the lead but through an unlikely source. Beaker.
A rare headed goal from Ozil fifteen seconds and five passes after that blocked shot . Great cross from Alexis even though it's usually the other way around.
Ramsey shoots well over off a pass from Bellerin.
The Gunners set for their first away win of the season?
Thomas turns 25 years old on Friday. That day, he flies off to Florida with his Siena Women's soccer team
The MAAC tourney is being played at ESPN World in Disney!!
He gets free passes to the Parks as well... lucky bugger!!
Wishing Siena the best vs RPI or is it RIP?
I hope they RIP!
Happy birthday to Thomas and what a birthday present. Well done to him!
RPI is kinda famous. Renseeler Polytechnic Institute
LOL! I will support you on that.
Could well be - they've been outplaying Everton for an hour. Only Rooney's goal against the run of play has kept them in it.
Aren't they an engineering school from Brooklyn?
Nope, it is in Renseleer which is just north of Albany on the Hudson River
Leeds have a trip to the Foxes on Tuesday and Man Yoo to the struggling Swans. The Gunners host the Canaries.
Sounds like a local derby, probably bigger than the East Anglian Derby played earlier today
The two top ties loo like the ones on Wednesday: Chelsea vs the Toffees and the Spuds vs the Hammers
Bob will be pleased to read that Leeds vs the Evil Blades will be on ESPN 3 on Friday afternoon. Will anyone be around for that?
My day doesn't end until 3:30
That will be around halftime. I'm thinking of taking Friday off again.
Is this your last year ?
I think I still have to go for another 3 years after this year!
The school is getting so bad , I don't know how I am going to last. The kids can do and say anything and it doesn't matter
Grades don't matter either
I'll be around.
Gana is a numpty!!
Why don't these guys have brains!!!
Everton down to ten
It goes from bad to worse as Gueye is sent off for a second booking. Pawson has made sure that Gueye is going to the doghouse due to making Craig's list.
Next year is my last year, but I have enough days to start using them up this year. It's not just the kids. I can't stand the administrators wither.
Agreed, UWS. He's Gana have to go for an early bath.
Any plans for a retirement party?
Our administrators are pathetic too!
Won't you get paid for your unused personal/sick days?
We get paid for a percentage of the days we have banked. I could get a +$30,000 check at retirement! You can't bank them in your last year for some reason so I might as well use them that year!
The Gazette extends the Arsenal lead!
Easy peasy lemon squeezy
GOAL !!!! I MISSED IT BUT READ ABOUT A THUMPING FINISH IN LACAZETTE.
GOAL! That's torn it. Lacazette scores his fourth goal in the Prem and Everton are done.
1-3!
Everton now need two goals and Koeman takes off his two strikers!
Agreed, UWS. Easy Peasy indeed. The Toffees coughed up possession to Bellerin and several passes later Lacazette blasted home , unmarked in the six yard box.
In truth, without Pickford's heroics, Arsenal might have won this one 6 or 7-1.
On comes Jack the Lad.
Everton with a free kick... basics...stay onside!!
The Gazette is off and on comes Wilshire
We don;t get paid for our days , so that's why I am using them. How would you get the $30,000? Sounds like you can, but can't get the money. Sounds like you should use up your days. If you have a lot of days then it next year sounds like the right time to start using your days.
Dave, what about your sick days? Did you see my question?
oh, you just did
Pickford made eight saves in the first half. Taking out the routine saves, it should have been about 10-1.
I'm likely to be still working when you lot are 10 or 15 years into retirement. But I love it - wouldn't have it any other way.
I would like a retirement party with LOBers around. It will hopefully be a great occasion.
I have over 300 days banked
When I retire, I think you get to paid your daily rate for around 25% of them.
The last year of your career you stop banking them. I get 13 sick and 5 personal every year so I should use those in my last year
Wishing you many more year of happiness at work and UWS will make it . You're almost across the finish line.
I'd love to be able to LOVE to stay in the job... can't do it
WOW!!!! All we get is five of each. Sounds like a big payday and well deserved too.
I second that, UWS. I feel your pain.
Talking about celebrating, Coq Au Vin on for the Beaker, who scored a rare headed goal today
I am going to take Nov 7th off
We have conference day and there is no way I am going to that... SICK DAY!!!
Have to vote that day too... SAY NO to the Constitutional Convention... the State could take our pensions away!!
OH!!! A shot of granite i s tipped on to the bar after Alexis missed with a free header.
Glad you're taking the day off. I wouldn't go to that dross either. I would vote no too. That is really horrible from the state. We vote on Nov 7th as well.
I'm guessing you would not lose your pension, but the newer teachers would. Definitely a nay.
What's with all the Scouse kids named "Jonjo?" Is that a common name on Merseyside?
There is talk that they could just take it all away!!
GOAL !!! THE ROUT IS ON AS RAMSEY MAKES IT 1-4 TO THE GUNNERS
Four one...EVERTON STOMPED
I am off for walkies
I will be around for the first half of the late match before I go off to Matt's game
GOAL! Ramsey finally gets his goal. He could have had a hat-trick today.
1-4
We Fat Ron be sacked in the morning? If so, Gooner will receive two points on the PPP, as he predicted Koeman to be sacked shortly after being given a Vote of Confidence by the board.
Cech picked up a loose pass and several passes later Wilshere put through Ramsey who finished easily past Pickford.
Slaven was given a vote of confidence today before the match vs the Seagulls. It will be a photo finish between those two.
GOAL! Cech makes a hash of a clearance and Niasse makes it 2-4.
BLOODY HELL !!! IT DOESN'T MATTER BUT NIASSE GATHERS A POOR BACK PASS AND PICKS IT OFF CECH FOR AN EASY TAP IN . NOW 2-4.
Has anyone scored for the Toffees this season besides Roon and Niasse?
GOAL! 2-5. Cor blimey!
GOAL !!! ALEXIS MAKES IT 2-5 TO THE GUNNERS WITH A SUPERB FINISH OFF A PASS FROM RAMSEY.
It's a seven-goal thriller to start the day. Why would anyone watch the NFL?
Great run and turn by Alexis. The owners look none too pleased.
Bill Kenwright doesn't look pleased. Fat Ron has got to go.
It's over as the Gunners thrash the Toffees 2-5 . Agreed about the NFL.
I am back from a walk and ready for Wembley match
As I said, I will only be here for the first half.
I will be able to listen to updates on 5Live because the match coverage is on Talksport
We are off
Do I want Spurs to win but tie up United and drop Liverpool much further behind or do I want Spurs to fall behind?
I hate all this new formations with wingbacks that can't defend or attack
Bloody Pep!!
That didn't take long
Kane puts Spurs ahead!
Goal at Hampden Park too
Motherwell double their lead against Rangers in the second League Cup semi
Motherwell are going to win the right to lose to Celtic in the Final
Maradona is in the stands....if I were the FA.... I wouldn't let him in...He had his Hand of God can watch the match on the telly!!
Spurs are equal on points with United but they still need to score 7 more to go above them
I'm just back from the shower in time to see HK pop in Spurs' first goal. The Wembley hoodoo is officially over.
Welcome back Bob
GOAL! Son scores Spurs' second - they're ripping Pool apart!
TWO NIL!!
Kane fines Song.. Spurs are on Song!
All started from keeper
Maybe Spurs will overtake United!!
Are you watching Jose? This is how you play against Liverpool
Not a good start for Merseyside so far
I was mentioning how I don't like all these new formations
If I were a manager today, I would still play 4-4-2
People say my team would be overrun in the midfield. Well, to start I would by pass the midfield and attack the back three. Once they drop someone back, I could then use the midfield
ooh, off the bar by Son
Oh - Son nearly adds a third - off the bar!
I agree with you, mate - 4-4-2 is still the way to play.
Kane is now on seven goals, level with Aguero and Lukaku.
GOAL! Salah puts Pool back in it!
Game on
That Mo Salah's fifth goal of the season. Buy of the summer?
I still don't rate him
That finish was sort of miss-hit
Oh - Son was nearly in again. I think he should start ahead of Alli.
Five goals in the Premiership - that's not bad, eh?
Lovern off... is he hurt?
The Ox really bettered his career... bench at the Em to bench at Anfield
Now there's a guy I don't rate. Unfortunately, he's English and probably in the Russia 2018 squad. I'd rather have Mo Salah in the squad, wouldn't you?
Kane is becoming a ball hog!!
I would too if I had seven goals in the Premiership. I hope he ball hogs his way to 15 goals in Russia 2018 next summer. He's England's best hope.
13 goals in the Premiership this morning. I hope that all of the disgruntled NFL fans are watching. We haven't had any concussions or Mike Pence walk-outs.
Emre Can picks up a yellow for a chop on Alli.
GOAL! Deli Alli ends his goal drought with Spurs' third goal!
Goal!!
DA nets with probably the last kick of the half
I am off to Matt's game
Take care boys
And that's half time - Spurs troop in 3-1 up with all three of their front men having notched goals. More goals to come in this one in the second, I think. Stay tuned.
Cheers, UWS - enjoy the day!
Hello Bob and Dave. Sorry I wasn't around for the first half, but I took Melanie to a friend's house and was catching up on what I missed of an exciting first half.,
Enjoy the rest of the day, UWS. CHEERS!
Hoodoo? What Wembuhlay hoodoo?
Aurier has a cross deflected on to the roof of the net for a corner.
Kane heads wide from the corner.
The Ox wins a Pool corner.
Welcome back, MUR!
Kane tripped midway between the Pool box and the corner flag.
Cheers, mate. Glad to be back.
GOAL! HK adds Spurs' fourth and his eighth of the season!
GOAL !!!! 4-1 TO THE SPUDS OFF THE FREE KICK THANKS TO SOME COMICAL KEEPING AND pOOL DEFENDING.
This is a mighty impressive performance against a side that has been in good form. After all, Liverpool won 0-7 in midweek. They are no mugs.
Minnie misjudged the flight of the free kick. Firmino blocked a shot from Vertonghen off the line and Kane smashed in the rebound.
What is this Wembuhlay hoodoo they talk about?
Liverpool is playing a completely different side than they played in midweek.
Number One Son wins a corner off of number twenty sons.
With the big clubs all winning (apart from United) winning, the top five looks a bit more conventional now:
1. City
2. United
3. Spurs
4. Chelsea
5. Arsenal
Should be a few more points around in the PPP this week.
