A Relaxing Sunday
I'm enjoying my last relaxing day of Thanksgiving Break before I get thrown into the whirlwind of another workweek. I have to admit that I had some extra kip last night after the events of the chili cookoff, so I've just joined Soton v. Everton in progress on CNBC. I'm a bit confused as Burnley v. Arsenal is scheduled to begin on this channel in a matter of minutes. Then at 11am Hudders and Citeh kick off on NBC Sports. Not sure what game NBC is playing this morning, but it should be entertaining. Join me for a cuppa, won't you?

Very odd indeed. Rebecca Lowe has just butted in to switch the programming over to Turf Moor. Those who want to keep watching the Soton v. Everton, have to turn over to NBC Gold, whatever that is.
The teams out on the pitch now:
Burnley: Pope, Tarkowski, Mee, Ward, Lowton, Hendrick, Cork, Defour, Gudmondsson, Brady, Wood.
Arsenal: Cech, Monreal, Mustafi, Koz, Ramsey, Xhaka, Bellerin, Kolasinac, Ozil, Lacazette, Sanchez.
Good morning, mate. Hope you had a great chili kickoff. I just woke up as well. I think that was bonus coverage. The gold package is a paid subscription package that costs $50 a year. It took the place of NBC Sports Extra time.
Arsenal kick off wearing all black; Burnley in their home strip.
They're off from Turf Moor.
Morning, MUR! Great to have you around this morning. I had a feeling the Saints and Toffees fans were having to pony up a bit of dosh for that one. Not having it.
LOL. Agreed. The Gunners and Citeh were always going to be a bigger draw.
Ramsey called for obstruction on Gudmunsson
First chance for Burnley to swing one in. Brady floats it but it's cleared out by Mustafi.
Evil Neil's lads two up at Forest as the second half kicks off. That would keep them second behind Wolves.
Big shout for a push on Ashley Barnes, but he was a shade offside.
Your Chili is better than Alexis's because yours qualifies for the World Cup.
How on earth can the Evil Blades be in line for promotion to the Premiership. It's just not right.
That it does - it was a big hit last night.
Tadic with the goal for the Saints , who are still one up. The Toffees desperately need a top rated manager.
I was talking about Evil Cardiff, who are second , but the Blades are right behind in third. Neither sounds right.
Oh- off the bar from Gudmundson!
Oh, right - two evil teams that might be in line for promotion - not liking it at all.
OH!!!! Off the Sunday roast by Gudmunssson after the Gunners were caught in possession. He's been a thorn in their side as the lightweight Gunners cannot handle his strength,
Defour goes into the referee's book for dissent there.
A tad naughty by Robbie Brady and fortunate not to be booked, but Defour talked himself into the book.
wolves makes sense because they appointed a highly qualified manager, and made some really good signings.
I missed that missed sitter by Ramsey , but read about him getting a pass while reading Lacazette.
A timely and vital first Toffees goal for Siggy as he ties it up on the stroke of halftime.
Ben Mee heads wide from a corner taken by Robbie Brady
That is timely - is this the start of a turnaround for the Toffees? What manager would work out there, do you think?
I'm not sure, but David Unsworth really isn't qualified. Marco Silva would have been a good choice, but the Hornets rejected that. How about Fat Sam, at least until the end of the season?
Robbie Brady fouls Iwobi and is booked , possibly for cumulative infringements.
The Gunners win a corner.
The corner is cleared then a long range effort from Nacho is just wide.
Aberdeen won 1-3 at Killie.
I heard on 606 last week that Fat Sam is the fan favorite to take over - I can't believe it! They must be desperate.
Great block by Tarkowski on Alexis.
I've just noticed that whoever wins this one today can move into the top five European slots.
There aren't many managerial vacancies at this time . The Toffees need to stay up and his record at that is outstanding. I think he would only be around till the end of the season. Better managers will be around this Summer.
I was reading Lacazette and read about a Gunners foul on an attempted counter.
The second half is underway from St. Mary's
The announcer mentioned Sean Dyche as a possible manager for the Toffees. I don't think he's interested.
Kos called for a late challenge on Ashley Barnes.
Cech does well to tip over the free kick from Robbie Brady, but he would have been expected to have saved that.,
Granite with a long range effort halfway to Leeds!
I agree - I can't imagine that Dyche would want the job any more than Arsene Wenger does.
Lyon four up at Nice in the first half. I guess being nice is a recipe for disaster in footie.
This one has been a bit of a damp squib so far. It's the kind of match that year after year slips away from the Gunners. Somehow United seem to be able to eke out 1-0 wins when it's necessary - on a cold, damp Sunday morning at Turf Moor, for example - whereas Arsenal are a fair weather side.
How about our favorite Slav. He's a former Toffees player. I think he's a decent manager.
There was also a spirited discussion between Everton and Watford fans last weekend about whether Marco Silva could be lured away to a "bigger" club (i.e., Everton). Hornets fans weren't having it, as you can imagine.
The Saints regain the lead thanks to Charlie Austin's first goal in a while. Now 2-1.
Could be - but his recent record at West Ham might weigh against him.
I'm off to fix my brekkies, mate. I'm famished.
Agreed. The other match is more entertaining. Just saw Siggy's goal. OIt was quite a cracker!
Cheers, mate See you for the second half.
It's 0-0 at the end of a dreary first half to match the local weather conditions.
Charlie Austin with his second as the Saints now lead 3-1.
Evil Neil's lads win 0-2 at Forest with both goals scored in the first half. Evil Neil's lads remaining second behind Wolves.
Burnley get us underway in the second half. We didn't see a lot of football in the first half. I'm hoping for better.
Two minutes into the second half at Turf Moor.
Did you see that Charlie Austin scored his first two goals of the season? Now 3-1 Saints.
Hiya Boys,
I joined the match near the end of the first half. Doing a lot of running around this morning.
The Scottish League Cup Final is underway as it's Celtic vs Motherwell.
Good morning, Dave. You picked a good time to run errands. Not much doing.
I just read about an easy save from Nick Pope while reading Lacazette.
As it stands right now, United played like crap but have gained points on Chelsea, Spurs, Liverpool and Arsenal... shame about City not doing the same!
Citeh play late on in W Yorkshire. Hopefully, there will be a late upset.
United lose at Huddersfield.... City won't
A challenge was uncorked on Kolasinac.
We can hope.
Cech easily saves a long range effort from Gudmunsson.
Morning, UWS - great to have you around this morning.
Mustafi fouls Ashley Barnes a foot outside the corner of the Gunners box.
Cech easily catches the free kick from Robbie Brady
Struth..the Saints are 4-1 up
More misery for the Toffees as the Saints now lead 4-1.
Unsworth out? ;-)
No kidding
Steven Davis with the fourth Saints goal. Isn't he a snooker player?
He was the best snooker player way back when
How about Joy Royle , who is assisting him on the sideline? I thought he retired years ago.
Oh - Ramsey was nearly in there for an opener.
Now a footballer for the Saints and Northern Ireland.
Been watching some the Ashes on line
The first test match was close until yesterday!! The Aussies bowled out the Poms leaving them 170 to win.... quick wickets for England to put the pressure on them last night... NO... Aussies 114-0
Burnley hasn't defeated the Gunners since 1974.
Wilshere on for Iwobi in the first substitution of the match
According to Steven King, the Toffees have been put out of their misery as the Saints easily win 4-1.
Stunned how Everton sacked Koeman with having no plan!
Bit of a shout as Bellerin goes over Brady's challenge.
Nice solo run by Kolasinac and then an absolutely pathetic pass.
Great mazy run from Kolasinac but not the finished product.
Isn't that typical Toffees?
I would think so, too. Everton pretend to be a big club but are they really?
The Toffees are soft and gooey in the center and definitely not a bog club.
15 minutes to go... will there be a winner
I was pleased there wasn't one in the late one yesterday
A tad naughty by Matty Lowton on Alexis after Burnley fans wanted hand ball called on Kos.
I agree. A draw was a great result from that nice chipped shot.
Bob, did you see that article I sent you in the last week or so about the money Leeds got for winning the last First Division ?
Oh yeah, sorry I didn't respond during a busy period.
A familiar sight to our Bob as Chris Wood is on for Steve Defour. Sean Dyche going for it
?
Welly coming on for Lacazette now.
City's only dropped points of the season so far.... two...at home to Everton!! Everton could have and should have won it!!
Chris who?
I was reading Lacazette and saw that Wellie is on for a fellow striker.
Not sure, mate.
Wilshere nearly scores his first Gunners goal in ages as his deflected effort goes just wide.
Never heard of him!!
He is actually the kind of player that Everton should have brought in... at least replace Lukaku with some striker!!
How about Keane leaving Burnley for Goodison!!! Is he even playing?
Oh - I thought that Jack Wilshere was going to score there.
Lyon now five up away from home. The locals don't think that's very Nice.
Keane is a regular for the Toffees, but you are correct that the Chunk truly wasn't replaced. Siggy is a completely different type of player and was not the answer.
Has he been playing regularly?
I thought he wasn't
It's going to be hard to convince me that Burnley has a more talented side than the Toffees. It's down to management and leadership. One side has it and one does not.
He has been close to an ever present and was playing for England in the last two friendlies. The Toffees should at least be in the top half of the table with the talent at their disposal.
606 was all about that discussion last weekend. Everton fans were livid to think that they weren't considered a big club anymore. But when is the last time they actually won anything?
Rotten ball in from Koz - that sums up the whole match.
1995 Cup Final.... we were robbed
Will Arsenal do a United and get a totally undeserved three points?
Agreed with both statements. Other than that 1995 final I would saw 1987.
I see this finishing 0-0 as we probably did back in the first half.
The match from St. Mary's should have been televised.
If it stays like this, Arsenal will be 6 points behind second place United with them playing each other next weekend... with midweek games in between
It's 0-0 at the half in the Scottish League Cup Final.
Only a pair of stoppage time minutes.
Oh my - Arsenal have a penalty!!
Penalty to the Gunners!!!!
PENALTY . WHAT IS LEE MASON'S THINKING?
Tarkowski called for a push on Ramsey. What a numpty.
In injury time!! Looks like they will do a United
Why is he pushing there!!
Sanchez to take.... last kick of the match time...GOAL
They did do a United
Alexis to step up here....
And he wins it for the Gunners! Just under the fingertips of the keeper.
GOAL !!!ALEXIS SCORES FROM THE SPOT PAST THE PUT STRETCHED DIVE OF NICK POPE.
He was pushed but the ball was no where near him
Stupidity from Tarkovsky giving the referee a decision to make with the contact with Wilshere.
UWS called it .
Did Lee Mason job another side?
A massive six pointer win for the Gunners at Turf Moor then. Totally undeserved but that will left them up into the top five again. More points for us in the PPP.
Boos as the Gunners escape with a 0-1 win thanks to a last minute controversial penalty.
That is it!!
As for Everton, they are a big club
Only United, Liverpool and Arsenal have won more League Championships
They were good in the mid 80s
1984 FA Cup Winners
1985 League Champs, Cup Finalist, Cup Winners Cup Winners
1986 League Runners Up
1987 League Champs
1989 Fa Cup Finalist
Someone is going potty in Alexandria
Fewer points for Yours Truly. I didn't pick the Gunners to make the top five.
For once, the Gooner will be happy with Lee Mason and thinking it's about bloody time.
Im off to shower... I'll get back to the late one. I won't miss much of the thrashing!!
NBC Sports are still on the F1 nonsense but here is the team news out of Yorkshire for the late one:
Huddersfield: Lossl, Smith, Jorgensen, Schindler, Malone, Hogg, Williams, Ince, Mooy, van La Parra, Depoitre. Subs: Kachunga, Cranie, Lowe, Quaner, Mounie, Green, Hadergjonaj.
Man City: Ederson, Walker, Otamendi, Kompany, Delph, De Bruyne, Fernandinho, Silva, Sterling, Aguero, Sane. Subs: Bravo, Danilo, Gundogan, Mangala, Bernardo Silva, Gabriel Jesus, Alexander Zinchenko.
Referee: Craig Pawson.
COME ON YOU TERRIERS
NBC just in time as they're off from the John Smith's Stadium
The Premiership top goalscorers before kickoff:
Mo Salah - 10 goals
Harry Kane - 9
Alvaro Morata - 8
Sergio Aguero - 8
Romelu Lukaku - 8
Gabby Jesus - 8
Raheem Sterling - 7
Leroy Sane - 6
Alexandre Lacazette - 6
Jamie Vardy - 6
These could change in the next hour and a half.
NBC miss the kick off
Thankfully, that's the end of the F1 season!
Off to shower
Absolutely - bugger off, F1!
Citeh were held 0-0 here in the Cup last season, but won the replay 7-1 at the Etihad.
Peter Drury and Jim Beglin are the commentators for the late one.
Agreed Eff off eff 1!
I expect this to be a tale of two halves. That is two halves with the Terriers being pinned in near their own box.
Sorry. it was 5-1 , not 7-1.
Citeh bossing it already, with the Terriers dropping deep instinctively. They'll look to break through the Poor Man's Arjen Robben.
Citeh corner then Tommy Smith clears for another. Kompany heads wide from the next corner.
LOL! I agree, MUR.
More like taking a vow of poverty than poor. Does that sound right. Are the Terriers feeding on scraps? Did you feed them?
James Forrest gives Celtic the lead early in the second half of the Scottish League Cup Final vs Motherwell.
Why are they already playing the Scots League Cup Final? It's only November!
Wagner was suspended last season vs Citeh in the Cup for getting in a fight with Garry Monk. Could that be?
They started the first stage of the League Cup in July. I guess they want to get it out of the way ASAP!
Aguero has it in the net but it's ruled out for offside. Good call.
Not exactly a Sterling challenge from Van LA Parra. Then off a quick free kick , Aguero has a goal disallowed for offside.
Excellent anoraking as usual, mate.
The troglodyte Huddersfield crowd is loving this rearguard action from their standard bearers.
The Terriers snapping like a pack of vicious dogs.
Cheers, mate. For the League Cup info or the fight between Wagner and Monk? Who won? Who were you rooting for?
A sixth of the match gone now and no goals. That'll seem like victory for David Wagner.
I'd have to tip it to Wagner.
Malone tackles Sterling for another Citeh corner,.
Huddersfield try to break but Smith blazes over at the end of it.
Then the Terriers counter and Tommy Smith is well over with a long range effort.
I would have guessed Wagner as well.
Citeh with two consecutive corners,.
Delph was unpopular here to begin with and that challenge won't help his approval rating with the locals.
Cedric Kipre is sent off for Mother well then Dembele puts Celtic two up from the spot. This one seems done and dusted as Celtic look set to retain the Scots League Cup.
Half way point of the first half. Huddersfield are still holding out for now. Goals certain to be coming, though.
It seems that way, but credit to the home fans for their encouragement.
The fans are brilliant; the team? Not so much.
hey're not bad for a newly promoted team. They, like the Seagulls, seem to be holding their own
Great run by Sane but Ginger Winger couldn't hang on to it.
It's true that Brighton and Hudders aren't getting run over every weekend. They're well organized. But who wants to watch them?
Citeh thrashed the Terriers 10-1 in 1988 in the old second division , a season in which the Terriers managed by Super Mac, were relegated.
I guess just their own fans and the opposing team.
Pep appears to be unhappy.
David Silva wins a corner off of Schindler.
Oh - Aguero was in there but his touch allowed the tackle to fly in.
A superb block by Schindler off a shot from Aguero after a super through ball from KDB
Do you see a repeat of that 1988 score today. I don't.
Doesn't look like it - Huddersfield under David Wagner aren't that naive. That's why they'll stay up. But then what? West Brom fans are finding that mere Premiership survival under Tony Pulis' leadership isn't that satisfying.
Otamendi with a long range effort that lands in Row D
There are 11 corners in the average Premier League match, so around five per team. City have already had six.
Losl superbly saves from Aguero then Sterling shoots the rebound wide, being put off by Malone.
Oh - great save by Lossi from Aguero's blast and then the defender put Sterling off the rebound.
If the Terriers invest then they may be more exciting to watch. The Seagulls have been more attack minded than the Terriers in the matches I've watched them play
Oh - the one big chance for Huddersfield of the half. Missed.
OH! " Zanka " Jorgensen is wide with a close range effort for the Terriers.A rare opportunity for the home team.
Oh - Fernandinho should have hit it first time, but when it dropped it just wouldn't come down for him. Over the top.
Fernandinho blasts over from close range off a pass from Sterling, who was located by Kyle Walker.
The Terriers counter through De Poiutre and he finds Tom Ince , who wins a corner after taking too long to get a pass of..
GOAL! Oh my - the Terriers have scored a freak goal!
A minute of stoppage time as Kompany heads out the corner from Tom Ince for another.
RUDDY NORAH ! SCHINDLER HEADS IN FROM THE NEXT CORNER SECONDS BEFORE HALFTIME . IT DEFLECTED OFF OF OTAMENDI'S SHOULDER.
It's the jammiest of goals - I think it finally went in off Otamendi's shoulder. But they all count for David Wagner's cohort.
The Terriers have a shock lead at the half.
Last kick of the half - Hudders go in 1-0 up shockingly. Can they dent Citeh's march to the title?
