Wahay! It's Saturday!
A very good Saturday morning to all of you out there in LOB land. It was a very busy workweek for me, so I'm really looking forward to settling in and enjoying a morning of the good stuff. We start with an intriguing match between Chelski and Newcastle at Stamford Bridge. Then there are the 10am EST kickoffs, including Brighton v. Liverpool. We then finish up with the biggie - Arsenal v. United from the Emirates. Join me for all the fun today.

Good morning , Bob. It's great to join you for the Saturday action.
Morning, MUR! I hope you had an excellent Friday night and are well-rested.
The teams coming out of the tunnel at the Bridge:
Chelsea (3-5-1-1) Courtois; Azpilicueta, Christensen, Rudiger; Moses, Drinkwater, Fabregas, Kante, Alonso; Hazard; Morata. Substitutes: Caballero, Zappacosta, Cahill, Bakayoko, Willian, Pedro, Batshuayi.
Newcastle (4-2-3-1) Darlow; Manquillo, Lejeune, Clark, Mbemba; Diame, Merino; Ritchie, Perez, Murphy; Gayle.
Substitutes: Elliot, Yedlin, Shelvey, Hayden, Joselu, Mitrovic, Aarons.
Referee Kevin Friend.
It's a return to SB for Raffa where he was interim manager for half a season a few years ago.
Thanks, Bob. I was off all day yesterday and went to bed early , but am still a bit tired. Hopefully, the strong coffee helps. How about you?
They're off from SB
Newcastle get us underway in their away strip of white and black.
Actually, now that I look more closely, Newcastle are in their traditional home kit. Never mind.
There's a cup match underway as Notts County hosts Oxford City. Are City favorites in that match?
Gooner will be amused to see Yedlin dropped for poor form. He was playing more like Yeltsin.
Chelsea for the first time, putting the visitors under pressure, nearly making Magpie stew out of them
Barca being held 1-1 by Celta Vigo about ten minutes before halftime.
The Toon are committing a lot of chippy fouls. Conte will need to keep calm as he was sent off in midweek for failing to do so.
Merino straight at Courtois off the high press. Then off a long ball Chelsea attack as Hazard chests down long ball and Morata blasts over.
GOAL! Newcastle take a shocking away lead through Dwight Gayle!
GOAL !!!! DWIGHT GAYLE GIVES THE TOON A SHOCK LEAD AS HE DID AT OT A FORTNIGHT AGO. CHAOS AT THE BACK FOR CHELSEA.
The lively Murphy made that one, pulling a desperate save out of Courtois. When the parry came back out, Gayle stabbed it home.
Young Murphy, who was signed by the Canaries deserves a great deal of credit. He won a free kick and several passes later , a routine long ball created problems as an uncharacteristic error by Marcos Alonso allowed in Murphy as Courtois blocked his close range effort and Dwight Gayle easily put away the rebound.
The Toon scored at SB , yet not a single goal between Notts County and Oxford City. I wonder if someone lost their Oxford short on that bet.
I really like the look of Jason Murphy - he's a live wire.
Superb close range save by Karl Darlow from Hazard off a really Fab long ball then Morata goes down in the box, but the ref was having none of it.
Chelsea have looked jittery at the back since the start and now they are behind. But will that goal merely shake the hornets nest?
He sure is. Not sure if he will be on the plane to Russia this Summer.
Big shout there from the Chelski players for a penalty with Darlow coming over the top of Morata.
Morata goes down again, this time in challenge with Darlow,. That one looked more a penalty as the ref has not been a friend to Morata.
Morata looks up for this, coming into the game more and more now.
Morata wins a Chelsea corner.
Oh - off the post from Christianson with a little help from Darlow - great header!
Darlow pushes away a header from Christensen. The Chelsea one, not the Leeds one.
GOAL !!!! REAL CHELSEA PRESSURE HAS BEEN A REAL HAZARD FOR THE TOON.
GOAL! There it is! A quick response from Chelski.
Great ball in from Azpi toward Morata, cleared out and then knocked back in off the ground, deceiving Darlow.
1-1!
It's 1-1 as both goals came from shambolic defending. a cross from Azpi was not cut out by Le Jeune and that was a real Hazard as the shot was dispatched easily from close range, which was a real Hazard for the Toon.
I guess Le Jeune was made to feel old!! BOOM BOOM
It's halftime with Barca surprisingly being held 1-1 by Celta Vigo.
LOL!!! Kevin Friend fouls Marcos Alonso, but I guess he can't book himself.
It’s all Chelsea now, with Morata and Hazard full of waspish menace.
I'd have liked to have seen that, mate.
Did you see Kevin Friend's latest movie," Pretty in Pink"?
I need Morata to score a goal or two today. He's already four behind Mo Salah in the GBB race now.
Moses fails to part the Black and White Sea as he wins a corner.
LOL! No - I missed that one, mate.
Morata well wide. That won't help in the GBB race. I bet nobody picked Salah. His talent gives Egypt a chance of advancing from Group A, IMHO.
GOAL! Morata gets his goal! Wahay!
GOAL !!!! MORATA DIVERTS IN A POWERFUL PASS FROM MOSES THAT PARTS THE BLACK AND WHITE SEA AS CHELSEA HAVE COME FROM BEHIND TO TAKE THE LEAD.
Morata got away with one there, leaning on the defender as he got in to nod home Moses' blistering cross.
2-1!
Some real Loony Toons, mate? A long ball from Rudiger was not properly headed away by a Lionel Ritchie impersonator and a superb cross from Moses that parted the Black and White Sea was headed in by Morata from tow inches out.
Duffy has given Notts County the lead vs Oxford City in the Cup. Would that be shirts or shoes? I'm guessing shoes because nobody would lose their shirt on that bet.
A long range effort from Drinkwater is sliced wide after more Chelsea pressure.
Drinkwater tries a pop from distance - worth a pop.
Back from a trip to the bog where the Nocito curse did NOT affect Yours Truly.
Newcastle have a late corner now. A goal now would really set things up nicely.
Le Jeune has a shot blocked for the Toon's first corner of the match
The curse only affects Nocitos, I fear.
A pair of stoppage time minutes.
Kieran Clark booked for afoul from behind on Hazard.
Cynical foul by Kieran Clark - produces a yellow card from his Friend.
LOL! A catch 22 for the Nocitos. Do they or don't they???
Head tennis by all Chelsea players off the free kick from Fab before the ball runs out of play.
Peep peep. So Chelski troop into the dressing room 2-1 up. They had a bit of a scare but goals from Hazard and Morata put things to right.
2-1
I wouldn't mind a Chelsea Bun for half-time snack.
It's halftime as Chelsea have come from behind to lead 2-1. Morata appeared to be fouled by Diame in the D, but the Toon were saved by the halftime whistle.
Sounds like a plan, mate.
Barca now lead Celta Vigo 2-1 . The Barca goals have come from Messi and Suarez. No surprises there.
Chelski get us underway in the second half; no changes as of yet.
The second half is underway from SB
WOW !!!! Celta Vigo score to make it Desmond at the Nou Canmp. That's a big surprise.
Oh - Moses gets behind his defender and fizzes a cross over that's just cleared off Morata's toe.
A pass by Moses intended for Morata is cut out by Mbemeba for a Chelsea corner.
Conte looks a tad chilly. It can be a bit nippy in Blighty during the Winter months.
Chelski and Moses are really exposing the reality that Matt Ritchie is not a natural full-back and is being played out of position by Rafa.
Isn't that like calling Lionel a talented singer or for that case Nicole?
Fab wins a Chelsea corner.
It feels like a matter of time until Chelsea get a third. Newcastle are scrapping hard but there’s an unsustainable desperation to their defending.
WOW !!!! Oxford City ties it up at Notts County. A giant killing in the making?
Hazard has a shot deflect off of Kieran Clark for a corner . Nothing comes of the corner.
Oh - that Hazard shot could have gone anywhere.
Hazard wants a penalty there - nothing doing from Kevin Friend.
Hazard goes on a solo run after Morata headed down a long ball. Some how , a penalty was not given as there was hand ball by Le Juene and Hazard was tripped in the box several times.
Chelsea seem to be able to find a way to win whether the ref, is a friend, foe, or frenemy. Sound about right, mate?
Notts County regain the lead as it's now 2-1 vs Oxford City as Kevin Stead scored with a spot kick.
Ayoze shoots wide on a rare Toon attack.
Better from Newcastle there, with Perez having a go right before being subbed. Hayden coming on.
That was his last contribution of the match as Ayoze is replaced by Isaac Hayden
A real biblical theme as Isaac and Jacob are on for the Toon and Moses for Chelsea.
Dwight Gayle in the Crystal position, which is offside.
This is Newcastle’s best spell since they went ahead early on. That isn’t saying much, in truth, but there has been a slight change in the mood of the match.
Merino has been good on the ball for Newcastle, particularly in the second half. There’s a calm elegance to his play.
It is surprising that the Toon are still in this match. We would have expected a lopsided match.
Has Shelvy been shelved?
Hazard shoots straight at Darlow, who has had little to do this half despite Chelsea dominance.
It's over in the Nou Camp and has surprisingly finished Desmond between Barca and Celta Vigo.
Oh - Hazard was in on goal but just lost his footing on the way.
A nice one two between Hazard and Drinkwater nearly came off.
I am surprised not to see Jonjo Shelvy today - he's got a range of passing that Newcastle have been missing.
PENALTY . LIONEL RITCHIE DEFINITELY TRIPPED MOSES OFF A FAB SLIDE RULE PASS. THE EASIEST DECISION OF THE DAY FOR KEVIN FRIEND.
Oh dear - Matt Ritchie has given away a penalty, hacking down Moses.
Hazard steps up and....
3-1 Chelski!
GOAL !!!! A PANENAKA FROM HAZARD THAT SENDS DARLOW THE WRONG WAY. NOW 3-1 TO CHELSEA.
Ritchie will definitely not be dancing all night long after this performance.
Shelvy no longer shelved as he's on for Diame.
LOL, mate. He's definitely not in Toon today.
Hazard is put through , but Darlow blocks from point blank range.
Oxford City not losing their shirts as they score to make it Desmond at Notts County in the Cup.
Ritchioe is not " Dancing on the Ceiling" as his defending has been a real Hazard to the Loony Toons.
Hazard and Morata are in again. Good save from Darlow.
And that's his last action. Cesc off as well.
Bakayoko Ono on for Hazard, who gets a standing ovation.
Like for like on the final roll of the dice for Conte as Cahill is on for Christensen.
It’s been an emphatic win for Chelsea. Newcastle have worked hard but this was always going to be a tough afternoon for them.
I wonder if that Barca result will allow Real Madrid in at the top.
Agreed. This was pretty much the expected outcome.
Jacob Murphy tries to take on the whole Chelski side - Cahill is fresh and brushes him aside.
Not sure. That will help in the PPP.
The U.S. international Yedliin on for the impressive Merino.
Yeltsin on for a late cameo in place of Merino.
Neither Yedlin nor Yeltsin will be at the World Cup this Summer.
Better from Ritchie as He defends well against Drinkwater off a nice long ball from Kante.
Jacob Murphy has a shot blocked for a corner off a pass from Shelvy.
Bakayoko heads out the corner from Ritchie for another. The next corner is headed over by Kieran Clarke.,
Kante blocks for another Toon corner.
Courtois catches the corner as there are a trio of stoppage time minutes
A long range effort from Shelvy is high and wide. That needs to be Shelved.
Almost a chance for Newcastle to nick another consolation goal.
It's over and Chelsea comfortably defeat the Toon 3-1
Full-time: Chelski increase their lead over Arsenal in third.
Meanwhile, Newcastle are still safe in 12th but have lost four of their last five matches, which will be worrying to fans.
I'm off for a shower now - back for the 10am EST kickoffs.
Hi boys,
I had a sleep in this morning.
Had a little party with all my cousins. Lovely night had by all

Good morning, UWS. Great to hear you had a fantastic evening with family.
They're off from the AMEX
We're underway on the south coast.
And now from VR
The Cup can be cruel as Oxford City lose 3-2 to Notts County thanks to a fifth minute stoppage time winner.
Oh - free header for Firmino from an early corner. Should have scored.
A really Evil match on ESPN 3 as the Evil Lions host the Evil Blades.
The Swans take a surprise lead at the Brit.
With a win today, Liverpool could leapfrog Arsenal into fourth place. Meanwhile, Brighton would solidify their mid-table status.
That is one Evil Derby match.
The Foxes take the lead vs Burnley
There was a spirited discussion on last weekend's 606 about whether Sparky Hughes should be sacked at Stoke. Stoke fans said "yes;" Sparky's old chum Robbie Savage said "no."
The Gils take the lead vs Carlisle in the Cup
Damari Gray with the Foxes goal
Demarai Gray has fired Leicester into the lead against Burnley.
Nice to see some goals flying in in the Premiership for a change.
Bony with the Swans goal on his return to the Potteries.
Agreed. It would be nice to see some of them in the televised matches.
GOAL !!! KABESELE HEADS THE HORNETS INTO THE LEAD OFF A CORNER WITH A FREE HEADER THANKS TO POOR MARKING BY HARRY KANE.
HI boys,
A little sidetracked but I'm here for the match
Ipswich takes the lead vs Forest
Welcome back, UWS
Are you watching the Spurs match?
Sunshine is stinging from that poor Spuds defending off that Hornets corner.
Why are Spurs so bloody bad this season - I picked them for the title! Grrrr!
I'm watching both matches with the PIP option
oooh, Murray should have score there!
Ball stuck in his feet!!
Oh - Glenn Murray had a chance on the turn - couldn't get it out of his feet properly.
The Hornets have a free kick a few yards away from the corner of the SPuds box.
Hannover ties it up at Bayern
Pompey two up vs Northants in the EFL Trophy. Will UWS be concerned about that one?
Evil Lions have gone 1-0 up on the Evil Blades in the Evil Derby through Evil Lee Gregory.
Play up Pompey
Pompey play up
Love to see Liverpool drop points here
Celtic takes the lead vs Motherwell, whom they are playing for the third time in a week while Dave Gregory gives the Evil Lions the lead vs the Evil Blades.
Bob will be pleased to see the Tigers taking the lead at Hillsborough
Gary Madine gives Bolton the lead vs BArnsley
Carlisle tie it up at the Gils and Swindon take the lead vs Stevenage. Bit are cup ties.
Stevenage two up vs Swindon.
Richarlison goes down, looking for a penalty. No surprises there then ]
GOAL !!!! THE SPUDS GO DOWN THE OTHER END OF THE PITCH AND TIE IT UP THROUGH NUMBER ONE SON.
I guess I'm watching the wrong match
QPR striker Jamie Mackie has been sent off in their match against PNE.
It was actually Perrerya going down in the box under a challenge from Davinson Sanchez. Five passes later Eriksen picked out Number One Son for an easy far post tap in.
I am happy about that Hull lead.
WAY HAY!!! Maid Stone scores as the Fake Dons trail at home in the Cup.
GOAL! Emre Can rises to nod home a great corner.
0-1 Pool!
BUGGER!
Pool take the lead from a corner
GOAL !!!! SET PIECES CAN COUNT AS CAN HEADS POOL INTO THE LEAD OFF A CORNER.
Ruddy Norah... two nil
GOAL! And a sensational second goal from Firmino with Liverpool in full flow.
0-2!
Forest Green take the lead vs Exeter in the Cup.
GOAL !!! FIRMINO PUTS POOL TWO UP AT THE AMEX.
Skipped one of my classes that I co-teach(the other teacher knew) so I could follow the draw yesterday. Used that website and watched the BBC 2 coverage
Great draw for England
There are no real great groups. I think it is because they had pots just by ranking and not geography.
Some great lines by Lineker... especially... Maradona uses his hands well!!
The Segulls centered off the first goal , conceded possession and five passes later , Firmino scored an easy tap in. Most of the worked was down by Salah.
I agree, UWS - I was reasonably happy with the draw for England. I would have preferred that we got Belgium up first, but we've got them in the third match. Hopefully it will be two easy wins over Tunisia and then Panama and we can play out a draw with the Belgians.
That was a great line. Also, when an Italian player was helping with the draw, Linker said it was nice to see some Italian participation at the World Cup.
I agree about the groups. Group A looks to be the worst group really dreadful looking opening match. I may skip it
That was the other one... couldn't remember it!
I agree with the order of matches because we normally start slow
Shaqiri has leveled it for Stoke against the Swans at the Brit.
Bob and Kate took a short walk to Peter Griffin Park. Kate gave them the lead then the Bees stung them with an equalizer. What a story!
On 5Live , some reporters from Africa and C. America said each of the teams are not good at all
Surely we can beat both of them!
Here's a novel idea... go out to win the two games by boatloads and not worrying about who is going to play defensive midfield!!
That was my thinking. We'd get the draw with Belgium with the opener and then go on to win the other two.
The visitors with another Swan dive.,
Kate and I have been busy.
Two quick goals for the Potters who have come from behind to lead the Swans 2-1 . Time for a Tony Pulis rescue act?
Phoenix club, Hereford FC took a surprise lead at Highbury before Fleetwood Mac sung about an equalizer.
Liverpool are swarming all over the Seagulls.
I will still be in school for England's opening match. I will set for the others
The Shrews two up vs Morecambe and None Too Wise in the Cup
I will be two weeks into my vacation when the Tournament starts or just shy of two weeks . Are doing an LOB reunion?
