Lakenheath Old Boys
We are all former students at Lakenheath High School and other public schools in East Anglia. We were in school in the 70s and 80s and drank deeply from the well of British culture of those decades - the pints, the telly, and of course the footie!

A very good Wednesday afternoon to all of you in LOB land. As is typical, Jose Mourinho has made loads of changes for tonight's match - 10 in all.
Marcus Rashford is the only Manchester United player starting tonight who was also on the field when his side’s 2-1 win over West Brom kicked off at the weekend. Zlatan Ibrahimovic makes his first start of the season for United and will captain United.
Bristol City manager Lee Johnson, by contrast, fields 10 of the 11 players who beat Nottingham Forest last Saturday, with Luke Steele replacing Frank Fielding in goal for his third appearance of the season.
The teams gathering in the tunnel at Aston Gate:
Bristol City: Steele, Wright, Flint, Baker, Magnusson, Brownhill, Pack, Smith, Bryan, Paterson, Reid.
Subs: Fielding, Taylor, Eliasson, Kelly, Vyner, Lemonheigh-Evans, Garita.
Man Utd: Romero, Lindelof, Rojo, Blind, Darmian, McTominay, Pogba, Shaw, Rashford, Ibrahimovic, Martial.
Subs: Mata, Lukaku, Smalling, Lingard, Ander Herrera, Mkhitaryan, Joel Pereira.
Referee: Mike Dean (Wirral)
The ESPN has finally started on ESPN3 - not much build up, I have to say.
Bit of an adventure for United, who weren't able to land in Bristol this morning. They were diverted to Wales due to fog and had to take a coach trip over the Severn Bridge to get to the match. United will kick off off here wearing red and white. Bristol City in white and grey.
Good afternoon, Bob. The students just finished their semester exams for the day and are headed home.
My mistake - Bristol City are in the red as United look-a-likes tonight whilst United are in the change strip of white and grey shorts.
Is Bristol City's kit a bit foggy?
Afternoon, MUR - thanks for joining. Glad to hear that your students are all set for the holidays.
United's strip to match the fog they encountered or is that idle gossip?
Cheers, mate. Still one day of exams remaining, but definitely ready for the holidays
Pog Pants back from suspension .
Paul Pogba must be wondering what he's doing playing in Bristol on a foggy December night.
Mike Dean surrounded after Pogba was called for a foul. The replay shows it was the right decision
Pogba upends Marlon Pack and sets up a useful free kick here for the home side.
Romero pushes over the free kick
Pogba heads out the corner for another,
A couple of quick corners in successful for City.
Not a good start from United . They're playing as if they're ion a fog or is that the kit?
Predictably, Bristol City have come out of the traps full of vim and vigor - this is a big night for them.
Rash makes a good tackle then his cross goes across the Severn headed towards South Wales.
Not sure what Rashford was aiming for with that shot - the Goodyear Blimp?
That was my concern. They're up for this and confident due to their successful league season.
LOL, mate. It may have been on it's flight to south wales.
Blind was blind to the fact that the ball was right under his feet or was it the fog?
United just have to weather the first twenty minutes or so.
Oh - Zlatan nearly scored with a volley at the backpost that was deflected onto the bar!
Nearly the lead for United as a cross is karate chopped to Zlatan and he volleys into the ground and off the bar.
Chelsea one up vs the Cherries thanks to a goal from Willian
It looks as if the initial Bristol City charge has ended. The game has settled into a more predictable pattern now with United in the ascendancy.
A nice solo martial arts run ends with a blocked shot then a long range effort high and wide as if due to McToamin poison.
Is it Bournemouth they're playing - I thought it was Soton for some reason.
Who would you prefer in the semis, mate? I'm assuming anyone but Citeh, right?
Now Bristol City have a corner,
I would think our best chance is vs the Gunners
Oh - cleared off the line by Blind from a header from the corner.
OH! A header from the corner is headed off the line from Blind then Luke Shaw is called for a foul on Life of Bryan
Probably a good bet.
Life of Bryan is a "very naughty boy" with that wayward effort. He'll be crucified for that one by the manager.
OH!!!! A long range effort cannons off the post.
Then a a long range effort from lands in Row N seconds after he nearly gave United the lead.
It would be nice if Life of Bryan would know the meaning of footie life.
Zlatan ran into some Flint. That will hurt a bit.
OH!!! A long range effort from Pogba is not too far off after United won the ball in their own half,.
Oh - Pogba nearly finds the top corner with that effort from 25 yards. United slowly but surely finding their groove.
Celtic take the lead in a Glasgow Derby vs bottom club Thistle,
Rashford goes down in the area looking for something. Mike Dean waves him off.
United starting to outclass Bristol City.
Marlon Pack wins a corner because his cross was karate chopped out.
Now Bristol City want a handball on Kung Fu. Corner instead from the conservative Mike Dean.
The ball is in the net but Flint was already ruled to have fouled Romero.
I think United got away with one there. Romero was throwing the ball out and it bounced off of Flint, then Flint shot into the empty net. Mike Dean said it was a foul.
The gulf in quality between United and their Championship opponents is evident.
Celtic one up at the half vs Thistle.
Oh - Magnusson produces a great save from Romero.
Roomero turns around a long range effort from Magnus Magnusson. Romero punches out the corner.
Despite that, Bristol City could have taken the lead.
Reid impedes Romero from clearing . All he gets is a lecture. Why not a booking?
Chelsea one up at the half vs the Cherries.
Now there's some argybargy between Romero and Bristol striker Smith and Romero. They've clearly been told to try to rattle the United keeper for some reason.
That seems a fairly ordinary scoreline at Stamford Bridge tonight.
Lancer Scott is sponsoring Bristol City. Which LHS alum is that?
The quarters have been disappointing. Perhaps because no quarter has been given.
Zlatan wins a United corner.
Yikes! Their first corner of the match
The corner is headed on by Blind and Zlatan slices a volley wide.
Nice last ditch tackle by Blind off a Bristol City throw as it seemed that the player was through on goal.
Daley has been having a blinder this half, mate.
I don't remember a Scott at LHS, do you?
More issues from Romero on the clearance.
Long throw time for Bristol City. Straight into Romero's arms. No additional stoppage time to come - when was the last time you saw that?
Not stoppage time played as it's 0-0 at the half.
Half-time at Aston Gate then. 0-0 - very tight. Well poised for the second half.
Back for the second half.
United have a free kick about where rugby drop kicks are taken and into the wall by Rash
Brownhill guilty of an illegal karate chopped and should have been booked.
Back on for the second half.
Decent hit there by young Rashford - produces a corner.
Steele does well to turn around a deflected free kick from Rash. Rojo wide from the corner.
Welcome back, mate. I will not be able to stay for ET because I will need to pick up Jacquelyn from school at the end of regulation. She's not staying late today
Sorry, mate - Bristol City take the lead through Joe Bryan.
A laser-like shot by Bryan past a prone Romero.
1-0 Bristol City!
Bloody Hell !!!! Bryan has knocked the life out of United by giving Bristol City the lead with a great finish. Marlon Pack played a great through ball and Bryan beat Romero with a great finish
Thanks, Bob. I wish United trailing was idle gossip, but it's not.
The replay shows that United were punished for gifting possession in midfield and some slick passing led to the goal.
United now have a corner.
The corner from Blind is headed away
The reason for asking about an LHS alum named Scott is because Lancer Scott punishes Bristol City's kit.
Bryan with another chance - a weaker effort this one with his right foot.
Life of Bryan with a shot that did not have much life and went straight to Romero
Pogba wins a free kick just outside the Bristol City box.
Miki and Lukaku warming up now - Jose will need to turn to the big boys to rescue this one now.
Free kick now for United - can Zlatan pull one out?
He can! What a strike! 1-1!
YESSSSSSSS!!!!! ZLATAN TIES IT UP WITH A LASER FREE KICK , BEATING STEELE IN THE OPPOSITION GOAL.
Will Lukaku and Miki sit back down now?
An attacking switch as the Chunk is on for Blind
Celtic now two up vs Partick Thistle.
Why not kill this one off now with some Chunk magic.
Yikes!! Romero caught in no man's land from long throw from Magnusson . He was out jumped by Flint, who thankfully headed wide.
I sure hope so because I will not be able to stay for ET today
And here comes Miki now - goalscorer Zlatan is withdrawn.
Miki on for the first time in ages as he replaces Zlatan
No more long throws? Taylor on for Magnusson.
Twenty minutes remaining and still 1-1.
Steele does well to save a long range effort from the Chunk
First strike from the Chunk - saved well by Steele.
Oh - Rashford was free there but for a great tackle.
A superb slide tackle by Bryan on Rash, who responds with a Rash foul on Bryan and is deservedly booked for that.
OH!!! Steele does well to turn around a header from the Chunk off a cross from Pogba.
Oh - great United move ending in a cross from Pogpants and a diving header from The Chunk. Steele did well to claw it behind.
WOW !!! Dan Gosling scores a 90th minute equalizer for the Cherries at the Bridge. ET at SB?
I think Chelsea have regained the lead in a dramatic finale at SB
Morata with the goal a minute after Gosling tied it up,.
Paterson was not too far away from giving Bristol City the lead. Great effort.
Oh - Patterson was in there and could have been the hero for Bristol. Skimmed the top of the net.
Celtic have defeated bottom club Thistle 2-0 in a Glasgow Derby,
Down to ten minutes and change now. Might well go to extra time, mate.
Pogba overran the ball off a nice pass from Miki and Steele was there to gather.
Ah - neat interplay between Pogba and Miki but then the Frenchman overran it going toward goal. That would have been a nice clincher.
I sure hope this one is decided in regulation because I cannot stay for ET
Romero is forced to tip over what I presume was meant to be a cross.
Oh - Pack nearly fools Romero at the near post. Scrambled off the crossbar for a corner.
Chelsea have gone on to beat Bournemouth at the Bridge. They're into the semifinal draw then with Arse and Citeh.
OH!!! Rash wide from long range off a pass fro m Miki,
They hung on to win 2-1 in a dramatic finale at SB.
Oh - Rashford was unmarked in the box but The Chunk overcooked that ball in.
Nice save by Steele as United win a corner.
And now The Chunk produces a great save out of Steele. He's been busy!
Former United player and Bristol City manager, Joe Jordan, in attendance.
Elland Road legend Joe Jordan in the crowd.
Will United be able to Steele a victory or is that a bit of idle gossip?
Pogba picks up an unnecessary yellow on his way to another suspension.
Paul Pogba stupidly talks himself into the book when the Chunk was fouled on the counter by Taylor. The ref had the situation under control.
Let's hope so, mate.
A triplet of stoppage time minutes.
Oh dear - Bristol City have won it! Sorry, mate.
BLOODY HELLL !!! Bristol City score a last minute winner to make it 2-1
The Bristol City crowd have officially gone potty.
Smith chested down a nice lobbed pass and placed it in the corner.
Nice finish by Cory Smith, it has to be said. Off the chest, swivel and bang.
That's it as United are eliminated from the competition by the Championship team.
That's it - Jose very sportingly congratulates Lee Johnson at the end. Condolences, mate. That's a tough one.
It was great chatting with you despite the result.
Cheers, mate. I will be around Friday for the Gunners vs Liverpool. Enjoy the rest of your day
Cue the pitch invasion.
Cheerio, mate - I may or may not be around Friday afternoon.
The semi-final draw:
Chelsea v Arsenal
Manchester City v Bristol City
