Lakenheath Old Boys
We are all former students at Lakenheath High School and other public schools in East Anglia. We were in school in the 70s and 80s and drank deeply from the well of British culture of those decades - the pints, the telly, and of course the footie!

Morning, mate - I beat you to the punch but I'm going to delete my post because I like yours better.
Good morning, Bob. It must have been by a Mata of seconds because I did not even see your post. Great to join you for the Sunday morning footie.
It seems as if both of us skipped the early one, with Huddersfield doing their relegation escape job effort a world of good with a 4-1 win over Bournemouth.
Teams in the tunnel at SJP now:
Newcastle United (4-2-3-1): Dubravka; Dummett, Lascelles, Lejeune, Yedlin; Shelvey, Diame; Kenedy, Perez, Ritchie, Gayle. Subs: Darlow, Manquillo, Hayden, Merino, Atsu, Murphy, Joselu.
Manchester United (4-2-3-1): De Gea; Valencia, Smalling, Jones, Young; Matic, Pogba; Sanchez, Lingard, Martial; Lukaku. Subs: Romero, Lindelof, Rojo, Shaw, Carrick, McTominay, Mata.
Referee: Craig Pawson (South Yorkshire).
Earlier this morning, Villa won the Second City Derby 2-0 at Villa Park to move up to second place.
Hi Boys
I am here for only a bit.
Gotta take the dog for a walk and then I am off to Newark to pick up Laura
Jose has never won at SJP. Time for that to change as United to a win and not help the Toon's relegation effort.
Villa won the Second City derby today 2-0. Brum had a man sent off in the 94th minute
Good morning, UWS. Sorry you won't be around, b ut wishing you a safe trip .
Morning, UWS - walkies during a United match? Sacrilege!
UWS will agree with me that we cannot help the Toon's relegation effort. That's Mike Ashley's responsibility.
We are off
COME ON MAN U
COME ON MAN U
COME ON MAN U
They're off from SJP.
COME ON MAN UNITED
There was a bit of an injury/illness scare for Paul Pogba right before kick-off, but he plays nonetheless. Maybe it was just a bout of gas?
I think he's off to Liberty Airport to pick up a relative who is from Cambridge.
Martial is down right away.
Looks like finger in the face
That's good
LOL, Bob.He's been full of it this season
Did I tell you all that I used my Amazon gift card over the holidays to purchase a Pogba jersey , a United beer mug, and a United key chain?
United starting slow again. Smalling gives away a free kick right on the edge of the box
I really dislike Smelling and Jones. Jones was getting better but he's still a moron!
The Toon win a free kick just outside the United box due to hand ball on Smalling
Shot into the wall, rebound hammered to the goal... GREAT SAVE by De Gea
Into the wall by Crystal Gayle then De Gea saves a rocket from Shelvey that was in all honesty right at him.
Why isn't Rashford on the bench?
United look so bad... WHY AREN'T THE READY TO PLAY!!!
Ayoze wide from just outside the United box as United were dilly dallying
Nice gifts David.... I wouldn't have pick Pogpants
United act as if they had a late Saturday night around the Toon.
All Toon at the moment
LOL, Dave.I will take that into consideration next time. Perhaps De Gea.
United a bit out of Toon right now.
Ten minutes in and United have not had the ball inside the box... hardly the half!
If the Baggies don't win at SB tomorrow then they're in real trouble.
Hopefully Sanchez will earn the buying of his shirt
If you were going to buy yourself a new United kit, who would you have on the back - if not "Nocito - #7, that is?
This team that is dominating United are in the BOTTOM THREE
United looking more like the team in the drop zone.
Sanchez limping
How are we in second place... we are atrocious
I bought the shirt well before Alexis joined the team. Nocito was one of Jose's targets during the transfer window.
United keep the ball but just pass it around the back... I HATE IT
I should go on a walk now
Yesterday, Peter Dreary and Le Socks were stating that Citeh can clinch the title by the end of March.
Finally we get the ball in the area... Useless cross... of course
Pogba is not moving well. I’m not entirely sure why he’s still on the pitch, but he’s told Mourinho that he’s fine. Maybe it's more than just gas?
DIdn't they say the could clinch against United
Maybe it is hot air.. .he's full of it
Sorry, lads - it hasn't been good. I have to admit that United don't look like a side currently sitting in second.
Sparky is still asleep with Elizabeth. No worries here.
United fail to get the ball into the danger area!!
Great play by Sanchez there
United turned defense into attack really well there, Alexis launched down the left. Did well against Yedlin and then teed up The Chunk.
A long clearance finds Alexis , who gets the better of Seattle's finest then a pass to the Chunk, who whiffs at it.
Matic has been terrible recently
Useless going forward and worse at defending
If United, Chelsea, and Pool drop points then it would be before the United match, but the Manc Derby is a possibility. That's on April 2nd, which I believe is the day after Easter.
Another nice pass from Alexis is wasted as the Chunk was offside.
We are clueless outside the box
I can help them.
Get a guy overlapping, pass it to him, put in a decent cross, have many players in the box attacking the ball
Simple
Jose can't get his teams to be confident. Why?
Just too long for Alexis as Lascelles clears away.
Almost into Sanchez
He must be hate playing with the team playing so slow
I'd much prefer to see Alexis running alongside Lukaku right down the middle, wouldn't you? He's the fulcrum of everything for you lot right now.
Jose is so negative that it transfers to the players. He does not exactly have a sunny disposition.
I would prefer Pogba up front with the Chunk with Alexis cutting in from the left like TH 14.
What was Lingard doing there.. GO FORWARD
Big rectangle.. aim for it
Jose plays mind games with other managers but also his own players!
Why the hell does he say that Shaw is now great... and then drops him for two games straight
Kenedy with a long range effort straight to De Gea.
Newcastle have another decent effort
Have United had a shot on goal?
That might explain why the United players are short on confidence.
I don't recall United having a shot . Just some misplaced passes into the box.
UWS - I just had a humorous picture of you in my mind standing in the United dressing room at half-time showing the team a blackboard with a big rectangle on it. LOL!
So bad from Pogpants... TWICE
I think they'd play better
United finally get a shot off but it still should have been a better chance
The Toon's new keeper turns around a near post effort from Lindy for United first corner and first shot on target this match.
Remember United 1-0 down to a Jermaine Jenas... then United proceeded to score SIX... Four before half
Me too. How large a rectangle would you draw. Would you label the right angles and list the dimensions on each side?
United came from a goal down to defeat the Toon at OT this season. Crystal Gakle scored the Toon goal that day.
I can't take this any more and Shadow is at me!
I'll listen to it on the walk and on the road
I'll be leaving to pick up Laura soon after so have a good week boys
Bloody hell... finish that Martial!!!
OH!!! A superb through ball from MAtic as Kung Fu Panda was through with just the new Estonian keeper to beat and shot right off him for a corner. A blown chance.
Cheers, UWS> Have a great week and a safe trip.
Why are Newcastle this bad? They've got some decent players and they ran away with the Championship with the likes of Dwight Gayle a couple of seasons ago.
Cheerio, mate!
AN errant karate chop is an off target header from a cross from the Chunk.
Raffa not happy with the call. It didn't look like a foul by Smalling on Crystal Gayle, who went down like a fall down drunk.
I disagree with David Prutton. The replay shows that Smalling made a well timed tackle.
Lindy fouled on a United break,. Seattle's finest should have been booked.
I agree - no foul there.
A minute of stoppage time.
Only a minute of stoppage time - not a lot of stoppages or chances.
Well, that half fizzed by in a hurry but without a lot of incident. I'm hoping for much better in the second half. Off to the bog.
The Chunk has a shot deflected for a corner off of LAscelles because he took too long to shoot.
The keeper catches the corner from Yash and somehow it's 0-0 at the half. Somehow, United are not trailing.
The second half is underway from SJP, where Jose has never won!
Second half starting up - let's hope the UWS "Rectangle" lecture helped and that United are more productive in this second half.
That's quite a statistic there. United have four players who are on 10 goals or more, whilst Newcastle don't have a single player on five goals. Cor!
Welcome back, Bob. United have attacked from the off. The the Toon counter and United get away with one as Lionel Ritchie appeared to be pulled down for a penalty, but was flagged offside when he looked level.
United attacking more , but the final ball is lacking quality.,
The Toon players are great at Championship level , but have not been able top make the transition to the Prem. Unlike the Seagulls and Terriers , they have not been able to strengthen their squad after winning promotion.
What would a draw here do for these sides? United would be fairly untouched, five points up on Spurs in second. Meanwhile, Newcastle would drop into the relegation zone due to Huddersfield's earlier win. They'd be level with Soton, but with inferior goal difference.
Lukaku nods home but it's ruled out due to a push on Lejeune.
The Chunk appeared to have headed United in the lead , but was called for apush after Smalling headed on a cross from Val;ncia. Smalling appeared to have been fouling as well.
Alexis has a shot deflect into the side netting after cutting inside.
A point would be better for the Toon because that may be the difference between suryiving and being relegated. Every point counts. A draw really hurst United because Citeh will be that much closer to clinching the title and that would allow Chelsea and Liverpool to catch up
BLOODY HELL!!!! HOW DID ALEXIS NOT GIVE UNITED THE LEAD??? A superb slide rule pass from the chunk. he got past Yeltsin and Dubrovca then took too long to shoot and his shot was blocked when he would have ha da wide open goal.
You lot should certainly be 1-0 up at this stage.
Lionel Ritchie called for a foul on Pogba. He thought that decision was out of Toon as was the free kick.,
Agreed. We've missed some really great chances. Will that come back to haunt us?
Yeltsin dispossessed because he was Stalin near the corner flag. BOOM BOOM!
Smalling booked for a horrible dive off a challenge from Shelvey.
BLOODY HELL !!!LIONEL RITCHIE GIVES THE TOON THE LEAD.
Oh dear - Newcastle have scored through Matt Ritchie who had the freedom of the penalty area to stride up and score.
Sorry, mate.
Mou responds by tossing on Michael Carrick and Juan Mata. Will it Mata, mate?
Carrick on for Pogba for his first Prem appearance of the season and Mata for Lindy. Will it Mata? How will putting on a has been help United get something out of the match?
Pogba looks really poorly sitting on the bench. He probably shouldn't have started.
Thanks, mate. I don't think it will Mata
Dubrovc with a nice save from Yash
What is frustrating about the goal is that it stemmed from that stupid dive from Smalling off that challenge with Shelvey, who was going nowhere. What was he thinking? Then poor defending off the long free kick from Shelvey that was headed down and the back heel from Crystal Gayle found Lionel Ritche , who scored easily from close range.
That Gayle/ Ritchie combo is not music to Jose's ears , but he's tone deaf , so it won't Mata .
Jose's winless streak at SJP seems set to continue.
Lionel Ritchie strode onto that ball unencumbered and sang, "Hello - is it me you're looking for?"
Carrick off the pace as evidenced by that foul on Ayoze. Why put him on at such a crucial time?
Raffa said yes to that song, but Jose said no. Nice one, mate.
How can United get an equalizer if they're off by a Chunk.
Nice attack from United there but it's cleared out in the end for a corner. It's now or never for United. Come on, you Red Devils!
The Chunk has a cross headed out for a corner as Carrick found Kung Fu Panda on the break.
Stay away from the tuna fish - it's McTominay on for Matic.
OH!!! Two United shots were karate chopped off the line as a corner from Mata was headed on.
The final roll of the dice from Jose as Matiic is off and Jose hoping that the Toon will be given McTomain poisoning.
Rearguard action time for the Toon now. I'm not sure that they're up to it.
LOL!!! That was definitely more humorous than my joke.
Not sure what the point of that substitution is, apart from a handy reminder to make sure to store the mayonnaise properly.
Joselu on for Crystal Gayle. A defensive switch designed to help the Toon hold on to the lead.
A free kick from mata is headed out for a corner by LAscelles.
Agreed. Sounds like the mayo was used and not refrigerated. That's how United have been performing.
Atsu on for Kenedy.
This performance is a bit off, isn't it?
But still ten minutes or so to nick a draw.
Joselu felt the weight of that challenge from Jones . That's some weight.
It's more than a bit off? We'v been far out played by one of the worst teams in the Prem.
We show no signs of scoring.
I don't actually think they've outplayed you. They just took their once chance more clinically than United have taken theirs.
Alexis surely should have scored. And another ref might have allowed Lukaku's header to stand, for example.
A quartet of stoppage time minutes. Will it Mata?
United win a corner. Will they make this count? No they don't/
As you stated, we've been flat for some apparent reason.
Lindy has a cross blocked for a corner.
All hand to the deck for the Toon then Yash stops a break from Joselu.
The final roll of the dice from Raffa . It's an annoying time wasting sub as Perch is on for Ayoze.
Wow - how did that one not go in!? Great save!
OH!!! Ping Pong McTomain had a shot blocked then a superb reflex save from Dubrovca.
The keeper has saved the win for Newcastle. Sorry, mate. that's a huge win for Newcastle. Doesn't mean much for you lot.
The Toon hold on to win and are not just out of the drop zone, but up to thirteenth. The Saints move into the drop zone and they just happen to host Pool in the next match.
We should call the title engravers. Thanks, mate.
We conclude with the Saints vs Pool.
I'm off to the shower, mate. I may be in and out of the late match, as I have to make some falafel and tzatzi sauce for a party at 2pm.
I will be around in case you pop in. Hope your party is a success. Wish I was around for that.
They're off from St. Mary's.
The Saints back in the bottom three thanks to victories by the Terriers and Toon. The third team in the bottom three today.
Pool win a corner.
Not a fan of Pool's bright Tangerine kit.
Hoijberg pressures Robertson into a Saints corner./
GOAL !!! BOBBY F GIVES POOL THE LEAD.
A long throw from Karius found Can . His pass was misjudged by Wes Hoedt that found Salah and his pass with the outside of the foot found Firmino , who scored with an easy tap in.
McCarthy saves a deflected effort from the OX.
Karius did well to block a close range effort from Hoijberg off a nice cross from Romeu
Carrillo, a new signing from Monaco, heads straight to Karius off a nice cross from JWP.
Then Carrillo plays Tadic down the left and his cross is met by a nice header from JWP that is well tipped over by Karius.
Matip booked for a rugby tackle on Tadic.
GOAL !!! TOP CLASS PASSING FROM POOL AND SALAH EASILY PUTS POOL TWO UP.
Mane had the ball down the left and he passed back to Trent Alexander-Arnold, who found Salah. He played a one two with Firmino , whose return pass was a cheeky back heel that fooled the Saints defense and left Salah with an easy finish past McCarthy
Pool are two up at the half against the Saints , who have huffed and puffed, but have been outclassed.
The second half is underway from St. Mary's
Emre Can booked for a clumsy foul on Oriel Romeu
Mario Lemina is down . Reports are that he's feeling under the weather and about to be substituted.
He appears to be able to continue.
Salah blasts over after a volley from Mane was blocked off a cross from Can on the break.
An attack minded change from the Saints as Bouffal is on for the ill Lemina.
A Liverpool change as it's one subtracted from the Saints Academy factor and balanced out by adding one to the LUFC Academy factor. In other words, Milner on for the Ox.
Milner also now the captain to the delight of Bob.
Romeu booked for a foul on Milner. A little high
Hoijberg uncharacteristically gives the ball away to Mane, who goes past the same player. He lays it on a plate for Firmino, whose shot is kicked saved by McCarthy then Salah shoots the rebound into the side netting.
Then a supposed attacking as Shane Long is on for JWP, but he hasn't scored in a really LONG time.
Another former Saint on as Lallana replaces Firmino.
The final roll of the dice from Pelligrino as Steven Davis is on for Romeu.
Trent Alexander-Arnold fins Lallana , who plays a one two with Salah then slices a shot wide with just McCarthy to beat.
The final roll of the dice from Klopp and yet another former Saint is on as Dejan Vu Loveren is on for Salah, obviously to hold on to the lead.
A quartet of stoppage time minutes.
That's that as Pool win 0-2 thanks to goals in the first half then they strolled in the second half. The Saints end the weekend in the drop zone while Pool back in third.
That's it for me.
CHEERS!
