Lakenheath Old Boys
We are all former students at Lakenheath High School and other public schools in East Anglia. We were in school in the 70s and 80s and drank deeply from the well of British culture of those decades - the pints, the telly, and of course the footie!

Morning, MUR - thanks for getting us going this morning. We have officially sprung forward here at Chez Gooner and are looking forward to the early one. We'll be cutting out on the Spurs match to help out the Gooner and his missus with some work in a storage unit.
Arsene Wenger has made six changes. The players now gathering in the tunnel:
Arsenal: Cech; Maitland-Niles, Holding, Mustafi, Kolasinac; Elneny, Xhaka; Ozil, Iwobi, Mkhitaryan; Aubameyang
Subs: Ospina, Chambers, Willock, Nelson, Wilshere, Nketiah
Watford: Karnezis; Femenía, Prödl, Mariappa, Holebas; Doucouré, Capoue; Janmaat, Pereyra, Richarlison; Deeney
Subs: Bachmann , Britos, Hughes, Carrillo, Sinclair, Gray, Okaka.
Referee: Martin Atkinson
We should also note that today will be John Motson’s final live commentary for the BBC. What a career the sheepskinned supremo has enjoyed. He's always been my favorite commentator.
Good morning, Bob. Glad to help. Hope everything is well at Chez Gooner.
John Motson was always my favorite as well. It is a sad day, but I guess Father Time is telling him it's time . The end of an era.
They're off from the EM.
Will you and Gooner be watching the match together.?
Everything is great here, mate. How about at Casa Goldstein?
OH!!!! Aubama should have given the Gunners the lead on the counter,. Through on goal, but shot off the big Greek keeper.
Oh - Aubama was in there, but hit the keeper.
Morning Boys
All the early running being done by the Gunners.
Everything is well. We Went to a barbecue cook-off yesterday on what was our hottest day since October. Was tired and went to bed around 11 . Feeling well rested and glad to be on break.
Morning, UWS! How are you, mate? Did you Spring Forward with aplomb?
Good morning, UWS.
It's another fortnight till Europe and Latin America spring forward. Is that correct?
Perreryra puts through Richarlison and he shoots wide from a narrow angle.
Gooner is helping that one of the Arsenal defenders "leaves a mark" on Troy Deeney early on. He's not a fan, apparently.
Texas BBQ? That sounds like a classic, mate.
The Em half empty. Jim Beglin says it's a combination of the weather and protests. It's just the protests. The weather is decent
ONE NIL GOONERS
GOAL !!!!MUSTAFI HEADS IN A FREE KICK FROM OZIL.
Early free kick chance now...
And GOAL! Mustafi rises to nod home!
Arsenal 1-0 up!
Classic header
Watford made a mess of that zonal marking - no one got near the big German - basically a free header. He made no mistake with it. And he needed that morale booster after some poor showings.
Old Firm derby is coming to a close
Celtic down a man but just took the lead 3-2 at Ibrox
It stemmed from a free kick from a challenge from Prodl defending more like Strodl and the Gunners scored off the free kick
Was changing the clocks in the car last night...as I turned on the car... next second up popped Johnny Hates Jazz and Shattered Dreams!! Should have been Turn Back the Clock!!
The Hornets have a corner and Holebas takes and it's out for another.
The next corner from Holebas ends up on the roof of the net.
That's a timeless classic, UWS!
Are Arsenal back? Are they going to have a run like they normally do? Win the EL?
They visit Old Trafford...wish they came during the bad patch
Great save by Cech!!
Oh - good save Cech from a shot by Doucoure. Arsenal have allowed Watford on to them since the goal was scored.
Great reflex save by Cech from Doucourre after Perreryra found Rucharlison. He could have shot , but his touch let him down and he laid it off for Doucourre . Better from the Hornets,
When are JHJ going to tour Western New York, mate?
Other than Citeh, the Gunners have had decent home form. Their road form is poor. Also, the Hornets have yet to score a road goal since Javi Gracia took over.
Ive been telling to do something like that!
I have to run to the store
I'll be back in few minutes
I wonder if that info would be on the ticket master website or that type of site. That's my best guess.
Enjoy, UWS. Catch you in a few minutes
Gooner must be feeling better since the goal.Melanie and Eric?
We've got an outdoor arena near Niagara Falls here that has loads of 80s acts that come through. Last year, we had Tears for Fears, Howard Jones and Flock of Seagulls there.
Oh - Kolasinac threads a lovely ball over but Aubama sliding in just couldn't get to it.
Great passing move from the Gunners. El Neny finds Kolasinac wide out left and Aubama cannot connect on his pass.
Melanie, Eric, and Kate are still in bed. Kate still recovering from her exploits yesterday.
They may very well come. Wish we had something like that. Our best bet is if they come to the Padre ISsland Civic Center.
Iwobi tried a curler, but it was well over the bar.
High and wide from Iwobi
what exploits, mate? Was yesterday a busy day?
Sorry, i just meant her brace against PNE. LOL!
Not sure if this is of interest to you, but a Championship match kicks off when the second half of this match begins. Derby travel to Forest for a Derby.
Then yes. She will need plenty of rest. That was at Ridsdale's place. You should congratulate her.
Oh, I did.
We were tired due to 90 degree heat. Tomorrow overcast, windy, and in the upper 60s. Is that more like it? Will be in the 70s the next few days after that
That's a decent match - I'll try to dial it up on ESPN.
Wenger Arsenal's greatest manager. How about Herbert Chapman? He did more per season , IMHO. Not his fault he couldn't stay around longer.
It doesn't start till the second half of this match begins. I think it's 5th vs a mid table team.
Richarlison lining up a Hornet free kick. Cech just about scrambled it away but Pereyra blasts over from the rebound.
Cech does well to push away a curling free kick from Richarlison and Perreryra blasts over the rebound from two yards out. That was a chance.
Oh - Beaker prances through the box with only Kamezis to beat but somehow slams it into him.
Great kick save by Karnezis from Ozil , who ran through the Hornets defense.
The Old Firm Derby is over and Celtic won 2-3 at Ibrox.
I am back
Did I miss anything?
Both sides should have scored. Should be 2-1 or maybe 3-1 Gunners.
Any thoughts about Motty, UWS? It's his last commentary match for the Beeb before retiring. I think he's the best ever. You?
Back from a trip to the bog to discover that I did NOT miss a goal.
Welcome back, UWS. I agree with Bob about the match and about Motty.
The Arsenal fans do not like Deeney, who knows why? They are currently shouting about his weight and throwing in a few gratuitous swear, too.
The Nocito Curse only afflicts one UWS.
Richarlison called for a foul on Beaker. Another set piece opportunity.
They passed it and it came to nothing.
Deeney called the Gunners soft earlier this season. Not sure why the Gunners fans are upset with him. He's in the doghouse with Arsene.
As long as it is 1-0, Gooner will not be comfortable knowing that the Gunners have dominated, but not put this match away.
Gooners will not be pleased at this sustained spell of possession for the Hornets.
Hoelbas wins a corner off of Miki. Taken short. A shot from Mariappa comes off of Holding for another corner.
He's not.
Motty was always my favorite
His first Cup Final after taking over from David Coleman was the 77 Cup Final...happy memories for me there!!
Now Cech releases Miki on the counter. The Hornets clear away a cross.
That was my first Cup Final. Talk about perfect timing.
My first Cup Final was 1973. Leeds v. Sunderland. Not happy memories.
That's an interesting way of Ceching a replay.
I don't blame you. I thought '71 or '72 would have been your first Cup Final.
It’s looking like Watford players are spending a lot of their time complaining that Arsenal players have actually come to play.
A pair of stoppage time minutes.
LOL. That's a fair shout.
We moved to England from Germany in August 1972, a few months too late to see Allan Clarke win the Cup for us against the Gunners.
Cech does well to turn around a header from Richarlison off a cross from Kiko.
The corner is not really cleared, but the Gunners are saved by Martin Atkinson's halftime whistle. The Gunners are one up with a match finely balanced.
Thanks, Bob. Sounds like great memories either way. That's four and a half years ahead of Yours Truly.
Off to toast up a couple of bagels and brew a cuppa for brekkies.
The second half is underway from The EM.
Sounds like a familiar breakfast. Always enjoyed those. Bon appetit!
Xakha Khan shoots a powerful long range effort straight at Karnezis. He nearly spills it over, but catches it.
Ian Wright is in attendance, using a Gunners flag to stay warm.
Back for the second half - any changes yet?
Welcome back. None so far. Just an Ian Wright sighting and Karnezis spilled a long range effort from Xakha Khan, but gathered it at the second attempt.
Mustafi booked for obstructing Richarlison om the break off a long clearance from Holebas.
Kiko has a volley come off of El Ney for a Hornets corner off a well worked free kick.
Holebas with a corner aimed at the far post , but eludes everyone and goes out for a goal kick. Kind of a waste.
Cometh the hour, cometh the changes.
Danny Welbeck being prepared.
GOAL! Aubama rounds the keeper and slots home Arsenal's second.
2-0!
GOAL !!! MIKI PUTS THROUGH AUBAMA ON THE BREAK AND HE ROUNDS THE KEEPER FOR AN EASY SCORE. GUNNERS TWO UP.
Penalty to Watford - young Maitland-Niles at fault.
PENALTY HORNETS. ASHLEY MAITLAND-NILES OBSTRUCTED PERRERYRA.
Saved by Cech!!!! Cue the yelping here at Chez Gooner!
CECH WITH A GREAT SAVE OF THE PENALTY FROM DEENEY. GOONER MUST BE DANCING.
Mad Jens enjoys the moment up in the stands.
Mad Jens , in the stands , looks pleased.
Platinum blond, Will Hughes, on for Kiko. That will provide more creativity in midfield.
Really rubbish penalty there, on the replay. He clearly had too many pies at half-time.
Back to the goal. Not a usual type of Gunners goal, but they will take it. A long goal kick from Cech was headed back to Miki at the halfway line. Miki played through Aubama for an easy score.
Oh - Marriata clatters Miki. Should have been another penalty.
I think Deeney looks about a stone lighter than he did a few years ago.He was even heavier a few seasons ago.
Cholevas gets his requisite yellow card for clattering Miki.
Holebas is booked for clearly showing his frustration off a challenge on Miki.,
Wellie on for Iwobi. Like for like. Okaka , an old fashioned style center forward, on for midfield player, Perreryra . Hornets going with two up front and more direct now.
Koalsinac wins a corner off of Janmaat
Is it me or does the EM resemble the Highbury Library today? Like getting a Latte at Starbucks!
Mustafi down . The Gunners can ill afford to lose him. The Gunners will lose something if Chambers replaces him.
That's precisely the change . Gooner will probably not be too comfortable with that change. Twenty minutes to hold on.
Mustafi limps off to a nice ovation. Younger Master Chambers on for him.
Richarlison goes down easier than a stack of dominoes off a challenge from Maitland- Niles. Gooner will not be pleased.
Was he sitting in the Master's Chambers?
Indubitably.
Still 0-0 half an hour played in the East Midlands Derby.
GOAL! Miki seals the deal for the Gunners!
And Miki takes a bow - off he goes after his heroics.
GOAL !!! THREE GOALS AND THREE POINTS FROM THE GUNNERS AS MIKI SCORES HIS FIRST FOR THE GUNNERS TO PUT THEM THREE UP.
Jack the Lad on for the last fifteen minutes or so.
That's his last contribution as he's replaced by Wilshere.
Chambers played Ozil down the left. His cross was pushed away by Karnezis to Aubama , who laid it off for Miki to shoot in off of Karzenis.
Max Britos on for Jan Mat.
I was going to ask if you happened to know the latest on the reunion plans.
Haven't heard anything yet, mate.
Sunshine is up and ready for the late match. He doesn't really care too much for cherries.
I am wondering because I want to make flight arrangements before the cheaper tickets are sol out. I think it's down to WNY and ENY for the quarters last I heard.
Oh - Welly unleashes a fierce drive at Kazemis. Well saved.
Not sure I'm going to be able to host. UWS is still trying to figure out if he has house guests.
Holevas wins a Hornets corner.
I can host. The AC will be in perfect working order. We can even take trip to the beach.
I appreciate the invitation, mate.
Talk about pie eaters . Lee Tomlin has a 25 yard effort goes just wide for Forest just before halftime. Still 0-0.
A triplet of stoppage time minutes.
That hoofed effort over the bar sums up Watford's afternoon. Not their best effort today.
Bob Wilson in attendance.
Giant Transylvanian, Panti saves a long range effort from Dave Nugent.
I think the score is deceptive. it's been a tougher match for the Gunners than the score indicates.
That's that, then. A consummate victory for the Gunners.
It's over and the Gunners win 3-0, but they had to work for it. That's 200 Prem clean sheets for Cech.
I'm off to shower up before we head to the storage unit.
It's 0-0 at the half at the City Ground.
Cheers, mate. Great chatting. Will you be around tomorrow?
They're off from the Vitality. A couple of minutes in.
