The End of the Premiership Road

Sadly, it's the end of the domestic season today. As per modern tradition, all of the final Day 38 Premiership fixtures will be played at 3pm GMT (10am EST) in order to prevent the deadly Anschluss football. After today, all there will be to shout about from your settee will be the Championship playoffs, the FA Cup Final next weekend and the Champions League and Europa League finals the following week. Fortunately, the World Cup is only a month away. So, let's enjoy it for now. We'll have a few dry weeks to come.

Morning, MUR. I haven't been actually. How are the playoffs going so far?

So here we are. The final day. It has been a long journey, and today we reach our destination. It may seem as if, with the trophy already handed out, two teams relegated and a third awaiting only the coup de grace, there is little to play for today, but in fact only four teams – Manchesters City and United, Arsenal and Burnley – have already decided their finishing position and every single match could change something. Nothing very exciting, sure, but something.

The key battles:

Top four: If Tottenham beat Leicester at Wembley they will finish third. If they don’t and Liverpool win (against Brighton at home) they will be fourth. If Liverpool draw they will be fourth, but if they lose and Chelsea win (at Newcastle), Antonio Conte’s side will take fourth place. If Liverpool don’t lose and/or Chelsea don’t win, Chelsea are fifth.

Blogger The Blue Devil said...

The relegation battle is all but sorted. However....

If Swansea win (v Stoke, home) and Southampton lose and there is a 10-goal swing in goal difference, Swansea will survive and Stoke will go down in 18th place.

Confusion at the back for Brighton but Solanke couldn't quite take advantage of it.

Saints nearly take the lead . A header from a corner goes off the top of the bar.

Claims of handball from the Kop now; nothing doing from their Friend.

10:08 AM

And Harry Kane has equalized at Wembley. HK is on to 28 goals now. He's still three behind Mo Salah.

Blogger manunitedrules said...

Mahrexz gives the Foxes a 1-2 lead at wembvely

10:16 AM

Will Citeh have any bother to do some damage to the Saints on behalf of the Swans? Not sure.

10:17 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Leicester have retaken the lead for the Foxes at Wemberly. Mahrez with the second goal.

10:17 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

The Swans need nine more . They can do it

10:17 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Kyle Walker- Peters had his pocket picked then pin pongy in the Spuds box and Mahrez scored with a powerful shot

10:18 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Surely a penalty now as Salah is upended in the box. Mr. Friend really being tolerant today.

10:19 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Oh - Mane was straight through on goal there. Could have squared it to Firmino, but instead he hit the keeper.

10:19 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Mo Salah wanted a penalty after appearing to be tripped by Shane Duffy in the box, but the ref is not his friend.

10:22 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Kevin Friend is really hearing it from the Kop now. They're livid with his decisions.

10:22 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Nathan Dyer goes on a solo run for the Swans, Falls similarly to Salah and the ref also waves play on.

10:24 AM

Dwight Gayle has scored for Newcastle against Chelski. That really helps Liverpool who are on top of the Seagulls here at Anfield.

10:26 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

GOAL !!! SALAH GIVES POOL THE LEAD. NICE FIRST TIME PASSING FROM TRENT ALEXANDER-ARNOLD AND SOLANKE THEN A WELL PLACED FIRST TIME FINISH FROM SALAH.

10:28 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

As things stand Liverpool in the Champions League next season and perhaps up to third.

10:29 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Oh - Mo Salah was nearly in again. Mane should have played him in with a better ball. He seems a bit off the boil.

10:30 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Swansea giving it their all to add to their goal tally, which is what did them in during the run in . Lots of 1-0 defeats late in the season

10:31 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Brighton have a corner!

10:31 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

GOAL !!! N'DYIE TIES IT UP FOR STOKE AND SURELY THE SWANS ARE DOWN. SILENT AT THE LIBERTY AS HE BEAT THE OFFSIDE TRAP AND CHIPPED THE KEEPER.

10:32 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Stoke have equalized and Swansea now need a 10-goal swing again, with only an hour to play. Doesn't seem likely. Still not Citeh goals.

10:32 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Jordan Ayew had a shot blocked. Then second s later , Shaquiri put through N'Dyie and he chipped the stranded Flappy and surely the Swans slim survival hoped have N'Dyied.

Blogger manunitedrules said...

Rash gives United the lead.

10:35 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Good old Marcus Rashford. Keep him fit for the England World Cup campaign. He may play a big role.

10:35 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

March finally geta a shot on goal for Brighton. Gobbled up by Karius though.

10:36 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Van Der Hoorn . like his teammates , horribly out of tune and booked for a pull back on the Stoke goal scorer, who has a pulled muscle.

10:36 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Newcastle should have had a penalty, as Azpi drags down Perez. Nothing doing from the ref.

10:37 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Rumors that Carlos Carvalho will be leaving the Swans this week. Hard to blame him. The Swans were well adrift at the foot of the table when he took over and have improved since he took charge.

10:38 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

That would make sense. He had a good start at the Liberty but the last month has been a disaster.

10:39 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Usually there is a relegated side that I fancy bouncing straight back up. I'm not sure that Swansea, Stoke or WBA fit that category.

10:40 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

GOAL! Dejan Lovren with a towering header. 2-0 Reds!

10:40 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

The announcer has mentioned far too many managerial changes for the Swans the past few seasons. The lack of stability has cost them

10:40 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Burnley are 1-0 up. Chris Wood (sigh) with the goal. Wish he were still with Leeds.

10:41 AM

Swans all but dead and buried now.

10:42 AM

10:43 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

It is between Swansong and Gooner.

10:44 AM

Lanzini has scored for the Hammers against Everton. Loads of goals flying in in the Premiership today. Good value for the punters on the last day.

10:44 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Yeah - I think so. You're right that the Championship playoffs will play a role as well.

10:44 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Aubama may have made Wenger's farewell a merry one. 0-1 up at Hudders.

10:45 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Aubama gives the Gunners the lead at the John Smith's as Wenger hopes to end his career by ending a seven games league away losing streak.

10:45 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Apparently Citeh haven't even had a shot on target against St. Mary's.

10:46 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

I think the Baggies have the best chance of coming straight back up if they can keep a lot of their players

10:46 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Stoke 1-2 up at the half at the Liberty as everything seems to have been settled at both ends of the table has been settled with still a half of football remaining

11:13 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

IT'S 3-3 at Wembley. A Fuchs OG

11:14 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Liverpool should have had a fourth, but Firmino, set up by Salah, shoots too close to Ryan, who saves. They are 3-0 up, but it could have been six.

11:16 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

A long clearance from Lloris was headed on by Lucas Mora and a pass in the box from Danny Rose lead to ping pong in the Foxes box and eventually went in off the unfortunate Fuchs.
