A Tale of Two Manchesters

A very good Sunday morning, chaps. The day is dominated by two matches featuring the Manchester clubs, who both got off to winning ways last weekend. They'll be chasing Chelsea and Spurs who both have perfect records at the top of the league now. Citeh kick off against Huddersfield in a few moments, while United take on Brighton at the Seagull's nest later on. Join me for all the fun this morning.

Good morning. Up and ready for a Sunday morning of Manchester Madness.

Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Morning, MUR - how are you feeling this morning? Optimistic about that trip to the South Coast?

8:20 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Good morning, Bob. We lost that fixture in April. If the United are at their best they should get three points, but it's a Mata of how well they play.

Robbie Earle commented that this one feels like a 4th or 5th Round FA Cup match, with a total mismatch of talent between the two teams. Pep Guardiola has indeed made a load of changes from the expected first team. So, it's squad rotation time with the likes of Kompany, David Silva and Gabby Jesus coming in.

8:23 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Fred says there's a match vs Scunny today as well. He's pretty optimistic.

Substitutes: Bravo, Walker, Otamendi, Mahrez, Foden, Sterling, Sane.

Huddersfield Town (possible 5-4-1) Hamer; Smith, Stankovic, Schindler, Kongolo, Lowe; Hadergjonaj, Pritchard, Billing, Sabiri; Mounie.
Substitutes: Lossl, Sobhi, van La Parra, Mbenza, Williams, Diakhaby, Depoitre.

Referee Andre Marriner.

Robbie may remember that the Terriers got a 0-0 at the Etihad in May that helped insure their survival. It won't necessarily be easy for Citeh.

8:26 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Back from the bog and ready for kickoff.

8:30 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

They're off from the Etihad.

8:30 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

We're away at the Etihad, with Citeh in their usual sky blue kits and Huddersfield with some day-glo yellow and black number. Most are predicting an early Citeh win - we'll see.

8:31 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Looking at the lineups, it should be a 5-4-1 as it was in May. Surprised that Lossl has lost his place in the starting lineup to Ben Hamer, a career backup keeper.

8:32 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Aguero with a close range effort blocked then Tommy Smith heads out for a Citeh corner . Off Jesus heads on then nearly an OG by Mounie as Hamer is forced to tip over then a close range save from Hamer off the next corner.

8:33 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

A reprieve for the Terriers as Hamer is down after blocking that close range rocket.

8:34 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

In the other match, The Hornets take an early lead at Turf Moor.

8:34 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Jesus with a close range volley straight to Hamer from a yard out off a cross from David Silva

KDB will be out for three months and to think I picked him to win Player of The Year.

8:37 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Burnley ties it up vs the Hornets. Sounds like quite a match at Turf Moor.

8:38 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Nice cross from Mendy headed out for a Citeh corner.

8:39 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

David Silva wins another Citeh corner.

8:39 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

The corner from his namesake is headed out by the first man

8:40 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

The Burnley goal scored by Tarkowski. Burnley may be tired from their EL match on Thursday that went to ET.

8:41 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Oh - great save there by Hamer who spread himself well and took one in the knackers from Gabby Jesus. He's down needing some treatment now.

8:42 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Citeh have 80% of the possession , but as in May, they have yet to score vs the Terriers.

8:43 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

The Terriers will just be happy that they've kept Citeh out for the opening period. If Citeh had scored early on, this might have become a rout. They're well organized by David Wagner.

8:43 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Jon Champion made mention of the Citeh's 10-1 win vs the Terriers about 30 years ago in the old Second Division. Citeh won't get anywhere close to that on a month of Sundays against this side.

8:45 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Agreed, Bob. Citeh frustrated as they were back in May.

8:45 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Jesus heads down and straight to Hamer off a cross from John Stones.

8:46 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

It's all men to the pump time for the Terriers now - Citeh just lining up for target practice.

8:48 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Of course, you and UWS will be hoping that the Terriers can nick a point here, eh?

8:49 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

It will be a challenge for Citeh to break down the back nine of the Terriers that's anything but naughty nines.

8:49 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

A cross for Aguero is just too long and he heads into the side netting.

8:49 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

A draw would be a fantastic result for Yours Truly.

8:50 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Do you think Fred is correct to be optimistic about the match vs Scunny?

8:51 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

I reckon so. Sunderland should certainly be favorites for promotion this season.

8:52 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

The shot from La Porte nearly lands in La Porte in Merseyside.

8:53 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Fred will be pleased to hear that. I'm sure you will be hoping for some Bee Stings in their match vs Not a Big Club later this morning.

8:54 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Definitely - I have enjoyed the poor start to the season by the Sheffield clubs.

8:55 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

A rare attack for the Terriers and Mounie lays it off for Stakovic and his shot was real stanky.

8:55 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

GOAL! Aguero finally finds the breakthrough after Hamer went walkabout.

8:55 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Then

GOAL !!!! A LONG GOAL KICK FROM EDERSON FOUND AGUERO AS CITEH WENT ROUTE ONE AND HAMER WAS WELL OFF HIS LINE . AGUERO CHIPPED HIM AS A COVERING DEFENDER FAILED TO MAKE IT BACK IN TIME.

8:56 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Route 1 for Citeh from Ederson to Aguero who caught Hamer off his line. Lovely chipped finish.

1-0 Citeh!

8:56 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

That's two goals so far on the season for Aguero, who is a goal behind Richarlison on three.

8:57 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Kompany blocks for the first Terriers corner of the match

8:57 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

You will be interested to note that the goal kick that led to the goal came off a shot from Stakovic that was real Stanky. Wagner may not see the humor in this pun. You might.

8:58 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Ben Hamer struggles with a cross from Weekend at Bernies on a weekend then Aguero should have scored, but shoots into the side netting.

9:00 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

GOAL !!!JESUS PUTS CITEH TWO UP , BEATING BEN HAMER AT THE NEAR POST

9:01 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

GOAL! Jesus takes the wheel and adds a second for Citeh! They are flying now.

9:02 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

That goal was made by Benjamin Mendy, who has really made a difference since coming back into the side this season.

9:03 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Citeh built out of the back , then Mendy went on a run down the left and played two one twos with Jesus that included a deflection off a defender then Hamer was beaten at the near post.

9:03 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Hey Boys
Slept in a little.... should have slept in more...this one is over

City could hit double figures

Jose's team would score one

9:03 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Nice one Bob

9:03 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Agreed. Sorry to say that Delph is the one making way for him.

9:04 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Good morning, UWS. Glad you are well rested.

9:04 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Bloody hell
Three nil

9:05 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

GOAL !!! AGUERO WITH HIS SECOND AS CITEH GO THREE UP.

9:05 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

GOAL! Aguero has his brace as Hamer drops a clanger again!

3-0 Citeh! Over and out.

9:05 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Atrocious goalkeeping

9:05 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Morning, UWS - sorry about this scoreline. Citeh will face more difficult opponents this season, that's for sure.

9:06 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

David Silva played the ball wide left to Mendy and the injured Hamer fumbled a pass from Mendy, allowing Aguero tot put away the rebound.

9:06 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Jon Champion mentioned that Ben Hamer may have an injured arm. Why not substitute him if that's the case?

9:07 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

This is a perfect example of NBC screwing us over
I would turn to the other match but they have to gouge us for more money

Did you write the letter yet Bob?

9:08 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

As I mentioned earlier , Citeh did hit double figures vs the Terriers 30 years ago . Not sure if they will match that today

9:08 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Based on your text, TNT is also gouging us? ESPN too.

9:09 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Poor Ben Hamer has had a bad eye, and has arguably been at fault for all three goals.

9:11 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

What letter am I writing?

9:11 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Tommy Smith wins a corner for the Terriers.

9:12 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

The one that UWS mentioned yesterday to protest having to pay for ESPN+. It was while you were involved with the move.

9:13 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

GOAL! The Terriers have one back!

Game on?

9:13 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

GOAL !!!! STANKY PULLS ONE BACK FOR THE TERRIERS

9:13 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Well that's a shocker

Huddersfield score!

That will just make Pep angry

9:13 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Ah, yeah, that one. How does that impact NBC? Because of the Gold package to watch all of the other matches?

9:14 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

A long throw that received Top Billing was headed on by Mounie and some stanky Citeh defending resulted in an easy tap in for the Terriers.

9:16 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Well I wasn't thinking about ESPN but you can write them a letter too!!

I told you yesterday that you should write a letter to NBC about them being FOX in disguise
We used to be able to watch a game on NBCSN or USA. We used to be able to watch any game on the other channels in the 400s a couple of seasons ago

Looks like this season, there is never going to be two games at once... they are just trying to rip us all off !!

9:16 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

A pair of stoppage time minutes

9:16 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Sorry. I'm still half asleep. You did mention NBC Gold. I mentioned ESPN because I was thinking of Leeds. I will try to dust off the cobwebs

9:17 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

It's halftime with Citeh leading 3-1.

9:18 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

If Citeh score seven without reply then they will match that result from 30 years ago.

9:18 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

I'm on it, mate. It's all about money these days. I noticed on the Guardian notes for this match that Citeh fans can now pony up for the "Blue Carpet Experience" where they get a chance to reach out and touch the players as they walk into the stadium. What a load of bollocks. I'll bet fans used to just be able to chat with players in the carpark and get autographs for free back in the day.

9:19 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Did you see those links I sent you last night?

FOX don't have the Champions League anymore
It is on TNT
Fox showed over 146 games
TNT will 46
Kick off will change from 2:45. They will be 12:55 ET and 3

For the Europa League, Fox showed 200 games , TNT will show one!

9:19 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Bleacher Report will show matches on line.... for a cost!!!

9:20 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

See about Jose complaining to City about the lack of class in that TV show of theirs.... Jose is the last to talk about CLASS

9:26 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

NBC had to apologize for Lee Dixon calling a cigarette a fag yesterday

9:27 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

UWS will be interested to note that Robbie Earle mentioned what he said about the sloppy defending for the Citeh goal. Spot on, UWS

9:28 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

I saw the post about the links. I heard about Jose's remark shortly before the match , which makes United look bad. Saw Lee's remark after the late match

9:29 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Now they are saying Spurs might not move in to their new stadium until 2019

Best-case scenario is mid November

9:30 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Wagner's symphony needs some fine tuning , so he is Depoitre an extra striker on the pitch as the second half is underway

9:33 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Sorry, mate - I missed it. We were really in the trenches of the move yesterday. But I did appreciate the Leeds link, despite the pro-Rotherham commentary.

9:34 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Yikes! I thought late schedules were unique to our area,, but I guess it's worldwide now.

9:34 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Mounie fouls Aguero just outside the box.

9:35 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Second half has started. Aguero is on a brace, looking for more. He picks up a tasty free kick opportunity now for his team some 30 yards out. Face-mask boy Gundogan over it.

9:35 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

GOAL! David Silva swings one straight in!

4-1 Citeh!

9:36 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

GOAL !!! DAVID SILVA SCORES FROM THE FREE KICK TO MAKE IT 4-1.

9:36 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

The Hornets now lead 1-2 at Turf Moor

9:36 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

That didn't take long... I was in the loo of course

4-1

Watford retake the lead...great job by one of my relegation teams!

9:37 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Citeh half a dozen away from matching that famous result.

9:37 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Why oh why do goalkeepers cheat so far to the other side when it's so obvious that the near post is an easier shot than hitting the far post area? I would have thought that they would have learned that by now.

9:37 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

First occasion of The Nocito Curse for the season!

9:38 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

I picked the Hornets too. If there's any hope, the Baggies won their first two matches last season

9:38 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Watford now 3-1 up

9:38 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

I got out of the bog seconds before the second half kicked off.

9:38 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Andre Marriner did not think that challenge received Top Billing as he's booked for a foul on David Silva

9:39 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Burnley may be tired from, that overtime EL match on Thursday.

9:40 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

That block from the Aguero effort was far from Stanky.

9:40 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Troy Deeney and Will Hughes with the last two Hornets goal. All scorers in that match are English

9:41 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

City are now on top

9:42 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

City might struggle to match the 10-1 win over 1987, but they could certainly get six or seven today.

9:42 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Mendy with a cross headed out for a corner that may receive Top Billing.

9:44 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Would it surprise anyone if Pep told Citeh to try and match that famous result?

9:44 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

OH!!!! Aguero nearly with a hat-trick as a long range effort comes off the Sunday roast on a Sunday afternoon as the visitors are getting roasted.

9:45 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

City will start the season with SEVEN straight wins for sure
Having beaten Arsenal, they then play the last SIX promoted teams before they play Liverpool

Of course, United lost to all three promoted teams last season!

9:46 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

The Terriers now bottom of the table on goal difference after that last Citeh goal. Citeh top.

9:46 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Aguero just off target from just outside the box,.

9:47 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Agreed. Citeh should be off to a flying start with the early schedule.

9:48 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Brighton have won their last two home league games against United 1-0... May 2018 and November 1982!!

Alex Pritchard replaced by Dhakby ,a winger signed from Monaco and a French under 21 international.

9:49 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

I've just done a quick PPP check. Red Devil is the big beneficiary this weekend. He'll pick up a point for predicting Jamie Vardy for a red card (first one in the PPP pool) and he also has Sergio Aguero as top goalscorer.

9:50 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

United need to end that streak today

9:50 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Book Silva ref!

9:50 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

A clumsy foul by David Silva on Ngolo.

9:51 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Stunning how some players don't get booked and others do

9:51 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Surprised he didn't.

9:51 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

That is true. It's frustrating as a fan to see that happening.

9:53 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Did Champion state that there a team hasn't scored in double fixtures in a league match since that famous result?

9:54 AM

About the only thing we can hope for now is for the Terriers to score again to reduce the goal difference advantage.

Damn...if only United could have scored one more against Ipswich in 95!

Jose should take a look at that match

We were behind in goals to Blackburn
Those nine scored that day put us ahead on GD ... meaning we could win the league...alas couldn't score one more at Upton Park!

10:13 AM

Correct . An OG from Kongolo off a run from Jesus that took a couple of Terriers deflections.

10:13 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Kongolo named that due to an own golo.

I have to go to a coaches meeting at Siena tomorrow so I won't be around for tomorrow's match AND I will be a miss for the entire weekend next week. We are taking Jon to a video game tournament in Boston. Had a great time last year walking around town. Should be fun again
We are coming back Monday BUT I have something in Saratoga on Monday afternoon so I will miss United v Spurs

Hard to see Citeh getting four in this top vs bottom fixture.

Strange as this may sound this not even a record Citeh margin vs the Terriers in the Pep era.

It's over as Citeh thrash the Terriers half a dozen to one. Off for walkies.

That's it, then. Easy peasy lemon squeezy for Citeh. They've laid down a marker for the others, including United up next.

I'll likely be in and out during the late one, as we're still in the mist of unpacking stuff.
