(Not So) Super Sunday
I can't say that I'm that ensued about this morning's offerings, as all of the big sides played yesterday. So, today we've got newly-promoted Championship winner Wolves, who've had a good start to the season, against boring Burnley. Later, it's disappointing Everton against train wreck West Ham. Could have been a morning to get some Sunday chores done, but I'll be here nonetheless. Join me?

Wolves go into this one feeling pretty darn happy after getting one over West Ham – the continuation of whose death march you can follow later on – and have made a very solid start to life in the top flight.
Burnley’s problems are a little bigger. It’s probably a relief that a squad this stretched has gone out of Europe but that doesn’t automatically bring Premier League results.
Teams coming out at Molineux:
Wolves: Rui Patricio, Bennett, Coady, Boly, Doherty, Neves, Joao Moutinho, Jonny, Helder Costa, Jimenez, Jota. Subs: Gibbs-White, Ruddy, Saiss, Vinagre, Hause, Bonatini, Traore.
Burnley: Hart, Bardsley, Tarkowski, Mee, Taylor, Lennon, Hendrick, Cork, Gudmundsson, Barnes, Vokes. Subs: Heaton, Lowton, Wood, Westwood, Ward, Vydra, Long.
Referee: Andre Marriner
What's with the fireworks before the match?
Peter Dreary and Andy Townsend on the mics. Both sides in their traditional kits.
Early corner for Wolves. Comes to nothing.
Leeds United Academy gets a shout-out as Charlie Taylor gets a touch.
Wolves come into this one in 12th. Burnley are mired in the drop zone in 19th, with West Ham playing later.
Wolves are all over these mugs. Burnley have clearly deteriorated since last season, where they qualified for Europe!
Not sure we’re in for many goals today but Wolves look very assertive when they step the pressure up. They’ve asked the questions so far.
Burnley don’t look very good on the ball at all, thus far. But they’re not being given much time on it. Looking like a tough afternoon on early evidence.
Better from Burnley int he last five minutes but Wolves are surely going to break the deadlock soon. Costa should have pulled the trigger earlier a moment ago.
Oh - great save by Joe Hart from that effort by Jimenez.
Morning Bob
Been around and about this morning
Sorry you were going solo
I still think Wolves' shirts is the wrong shade of gold...needs to be slightly darker
Morning, UWS - how are you mate?
I agree with you about Wolves' kit. I don't like how these sides are starting to wander from their traditional colors. When, for example, did Watford start wearing vertical stripes? They now look like Hull City.
Let's be honest, this one hasn't been much to write home about. I've been reading the Sunday paper while watching it.
I'm surfing the web more than watching!
Half-time - No one could be blamed for skipping this one. It hasn't been one for the purists. Burnley with the usual blood and thunder rearguard action that Sean Dyche demands. And Wolves didn't quite have the quality to press the advantage of their possession.
0-0 at the interval.
I was coaching Siena soccer yesterday at Berkshire CC
A strange incident happened. A foul was called on the field but somewhere else one of our players started walking out of his position and saying to the referee that someone was going to hit him. Everyone just watched as he was walking and the running as the other guy starting going after him!
Second half underway
Good morning Bob and Dave. Here to join you after a late lie in.
Looks like Wolves dominated from watching the highlights.
Back for the second half just in time to see Jimenez blast a good chance over the bar. Wolves knocking on the door early on.
Wolves blew that one!!
Terrible defending...Wolves have a break. The bloke blew it and then the shot was awful too
YIKES!!!!Jota got a horrific back pass from Bardsley, passed to Jimenez , who found Hart out of position and shot over a wide open goal
Morning, MUR - I hope you're feeling well rested after that lie-in. You didn't miss a lot.
Tark with a slide tackle for a Wolves corner./
Did you read about the incident at my game?
Thanks chaps. Feeling pretty well rested and glad it was worth the lie in.
Just did. What was that all about, Dave? Was the player stopped? Did the ref take action? That's horrible.
I just did - what a weird thing to happen. Did it all get sorted out? Did you have to step in?
Jota goes over under Aaron Lennon's challenge there. Nothing doing.
Well, the guy was sent off but wouldn't leave at first. He then just jumped over the fence and was technically off the field. He kept saying he was going to go after him after the match.
"Security "was called and he came... a guy in a Safety Patrol jacket!!
The guy did say a few things as we were walking to the bus but nothing came of it
Charlie Taylor tackles Helder Costa for a Wolves corner
Ashley Barnes troops off - I had forgotten that he was on the pitch. Nothing going on for him. Vydra on for him.
That is really bizarre incident . Wonder why the opposing staff didn't do anything as it was player safety.
That's a like for like switch.
Shame. Costa with a gut-busting run but then a poor through ball.
Wolves break off a rare Burnley attack then blow it with a horrible pass from Helder Costa
How did your player react to the whole incident? Did he keep his cool?
Joe Hart tips around a long range effort from Neves that may have been heading just wide.
The other team really didn't have a coach
Their 'coach' was and English guy in goal
Despite it being 0-0, Burnley looks like the newly promoted team and Wolves looks like the team that finished 7th last season.
I am still officially a coach on the team and get paid by Siena but Matt, who graduated, takes my place and I just pay him. He is in Boston this weekend that's why I went!
The team misses Matt
Jota slices a shot wide.
The other team needs to change that. Sure you did well. They need to suspend the player for the rest of the season.
GOAL
Wolves take the lead... deservedly!
I agree - Wolves have shown some ambition. Burnley look like they're just trying to survive in the league.
GOAL! Jimenez finally breaks the deadlock!
GOAL !!!RAUL JIMENEZ GIVES WOLVES A DESERVED LEAD.
Lovely little move there. Docherty got to the by-line and toe-poked a center to Jimenez who just flicked it by Hart. Nice finish.
1-0 Wolves!
Our guy was a big black guy.... the other guy was an even bigger black guy!
A long Wolves possession culminated in Helder Costa playing Doherty down the right and his pass into the box was diverted into the corner by Jimenez.
Not sure what Burnley's Plan B is now. Actually, I do. In matches I've watched, they tend to put Chris Wood on for Sam Vokes. One big lad for another. But never the two of them together for some reason. Do they dislike each other?
Weird to think that these two were the top two in the land!
They said earlier that Burnley's championship season of 1960, Wolves hit Burnley for six. Wolves were defending Champs
Wolves took advantage of the Munich Disaster to take over as the best side
Nuno is still going to throw Adama Traore on, even though they've just scored. Well done - keep going for goals.
Seems like Sean Dyche prefers a little and large partnership up front. That may be why the two don't play together.
I remember even in the 70s that these two were First Division regulars.
Adama Traore on for Helder Costa. The last thing Burnley want to see is a well rested tricky player running at them/
Oh - Vydra nearly equalized there from the free kick!
They were partners in relegation in 1976 and were never quite the same after that
ooh, how did that miss everyone
Gudmundson gets the referee's attention and a booking for that cynical tug back. He's the fourth Burnley player into the book this afternoon.
Long Burnley fee kick headed on and Vydra has a volley deflected for a corner. Wolves counter and Gudmunsson booked for a professional foul on the counter.
Yep - cue Chris Wood for Sam Vokes. I could be the Burnley manager!
Like for like and as Bob stated a normal switch for Dyche . One former Leeds big man on for another as Chris Wood on for Sam Vokes.
Near post save from Traore by Hart off a pas from Jimenez as Burnley were sliced apart.
Jota goes into the book there for sliding in on Bardsley.
Jota booked for a challnege on Bardley . din't see anything wrong with that challenge.
Traore has always struck me as a player with a one-track mind. Wherever he is on the pitch, he just thinks, "Run with ball!"
Not always a bad thing... take the space in front of you
Superb Wolves counter featuring about half a dozen one touch passes , but the finish from Doherty let Wolves down.
Leo Bonatini on for Raul Jimenez, the scorer.
The final roll of the dice for Sean Dyche in what has been a really flat performance from his team Ashley Westwood on for Gudmunsson.
Wolves can't get a shot off, but keep possession .Then well wide by Bonatini.
Bonatini right into the fray. Burnley don't seem to have any urgency to get back into this one.
Bonmatini with two shots blocked as Wolves aim to clinch three points.
Nuno will feel that Wolves's next two matches are winnable.United at OT next week, then Saints home and Palace away
Charlie Taylor booked for a clumsy challenge.
Tarkowski has been really good today; you can definitely see why Southgate has included him in the England set-up. He's saved several near goals.
Burnley merely holding on as they are being outclassed.
I can't really see Wolves beating United at OT next weekend. They're strictly a mid-table side, doing well at home but not a lot away from home.
The Wee Beetle fouled twice . The advantage was played then a free kick. Neves booked.
Sorry. I meant the match vs the Saints and at Palace. Wolves could win those.
Free kick chance for Burnley...not that close of an effort
Free kick chance fro Burnley now. Gudmundson wastes it with a speculative effort.
Wolves change - Jota off and Wolves Academy kid on.
Final roll of the dice from Nuno.Jota replaced by a local eighteen year old.
Ronaldo has FINALLY opened his account at Juve
Took him 319 minutes... he sucks!
It'll still be a worry for Nuno that going into the last ten minutes, Wolves have struggled to put a relegation threatened side away at home. Burnley could still nick a point with one in off Chris Wood ample bum.
I don't rate him. ;-)
Vydra is fouled by Ryan Bennett.
Wolves has played well, but their finishing definitely needs to improve.
A quartet of stoppage time minutes.
LOL. Ronny declining?
Wolves miss another chance
Nice run by Traore , but Bonatini more like Bonaducci with that finish
Just warming himself up for the Champions League start this week
As a matter of fact, Burnley more like Bonaducci with their performance.
Does Travolta play football?
Actually, that's the red head from the Partridge Family. Scratch that.
Bonatini with another missed sitter as he does another Bonaducci impersonation. Nice run and pass by Traore.
Another miss!
These guys will create chances against United.. I hope they keep missing them
All over
Off for walkies
That's it as Wolves defeat a flat Burnley side 1-0 and it should have been more , but for poor finishing.
Hart lumps it up the pitch in a last ditch attempt to get an equalizer.
Nothing doing - Wolves have won it, albeit by one goal. Peter Dreary liked it but I'm hoping for better from the late one.
Me too Time to take Sparky walkies.
Wolves will stay in 9th and Burnley in 19th. They could be bottom tonight if West Ham can get something at Goodison Park.
Back for the late one now. These are two sides that aren't very good - that goes without saying. Still - given the stakes - this could be an interesting fixture.
For West Ham, things can surely only get better. A winless, pointless and pretty worthless start to the season for a team that splashed out almost £100m on nine new signings this summer. Another defeat would usher in their worst ever start to a season.
The headline at Goodison is that Manuel Pellegrini has made six changes (!) to his side today. It's a gamble, but they've been shite, so why not?
The teams are in the tunnel awaiting the Z Cars Theme:
Everton: Pickford; Kenny, Holgate, Zouma, Digne; Gueye, Schneiderlin; Walcott, Sigurdsson, Calvert-Lewin; Tosun. Subs: Baines, Niasse, Bernard, Stekelenburg, Davies, Dowell, Lookman.
West Ham United: Fabianski; Zabaleta, Balbuena, Diop, Masuaku; Noble, Rice, Obiang; Yarmolenko, Arnautovic, Felipe Anderson. Subs: Cresswell, Snodgrass, Adrian, Sanchez, Ogbonna, Lucas Perez, Antonio.
Referee: Martin Atkinson (W Yorkshire)
Back from walkies, feeding pets, and taking out the garbage. Agreed that we're hoping for a better late match
The Toffees must be favorites to Hammer the visitors.
They're off from Goodison.
We're away at Goodison. Arlo and Graeme Le Sox on the mics. Teams in their usual clobber.
Welcome back, MUR - how was your walkies?
Everton have started quickly, as you'd expect.
Richarlison serving the last match of a suspension for a foolish red card before the international break.
Walkies went pretty well. Thanks you for asking. The lawns a bit wet from recent rains and tolerable due to cloud cover.
Toffees facing a five point deduction? Thought I heard Arlo mention that
Theo won a corner off of Art Masuaku, but nothing came of it.
Yes, but I don't understand that issue, do you?
It's still a bit hot and humid here. We're supposed to get the after effects of Florence starting later tonight. Rainy week ahead.
Oh - Calvert-Lewin was nearly in there but couldn't control it.
Flappy does well to gather a long ball from the Toffees defense as he gathered just ahead of Calvert-Lewin
GOAL! Yarmolenko gives West Ham a shock early lead at Goodison!
GOAL !!!JARMALENKO GIVES THE HAMMERS THE LEAD AGAINST THE RUN OF PLAY ON THE BREAK.
I am back from walkies...sit down... GOAL for the' Ammers
Is this WH's regular shirts? Don't have blue sleeves?
Great counter attack there through Arnautovic, who was so unselfish as he played his strike partner in to tap home.
0-1 Hammers! Where are you, WHR?
I think you're right, UWS. Maybe slightly different shirts this season.
Welcome back, mate!
Great work by the Hammers, but ball watching by the Toffees. Valbuebno won a tackle in the Hammers half, passed to Arnautovic , who received a lobbed pass from Obbiang and got behind the Toffees defense. passe across the face of goal for an easy tap in for Jarmalenko for a first Hammers goal.
Welcome back, UWS. Perfect timing.
Ronaldo scored a brace in Juve's 2-1 win
I think this is the Hammers first choice kit this season.
Eagle Eyes, UWS. The sleeves are different./
Free kick to the Hammers as Schneid with a less than Noble challenge.Short free kick then played in the box and diverted straight to Pickford.
Is that normal?
As Bob stated, a humid , rainy week for NY state. That's been our week, including street flooding Wednesday evening. Back to hot and humid this week.
I'm not sure if that's their normal kit this season.
West Ham have been surprisingly good in this first period. Have the six changes done them some good?
Home fans getting a bit restless.
The international break may have helped too.
Just looked it up
It is normal
West Ham should have Claret shirt, blue sleeves white shorts
Probably wearing blue shorts today because of Everton tho
Kits matter to me
Great attention to detail. Well done.Changing color of shorts for the match makes sense, but no need to change the shirts.
Artlo mentions Richarlison's three match ban fifteen minutes later than Yours Truly.
What's with Theo's tiny man bun look?
The shirt isn't changed.
Their home kit is this shirt
Oh - Flappy does well to gather Tosun's header.
Free header for Tosun as Digne got past Jarmalenko , put in a great cross and the header was straight to Flappy.
I was noticing the man bun too. Doesn't suit him.
Thanks for the clarification, UWS. Wasn't sure about the sleeves.
Tony and I have comical chat on Footer Talk Bob
Just a reminder that the Monday nighter is a South coast Derby as the Saints host the Seagulls. Saints need the points.
Half an hour gone and West Ham and Pellegrini must be pleased with proceedings.
Tony should be on the LOB.
GOAL! Yarmo has his brace on his debut!
Great finish!!!
Pickford thankfully didn't do that for England!
WOW!!! WHAT A DEBUT FOR JARMALENKO A SECOND FOR HIM AND THE HAMMERS AS HE PUTS THE HAMMERS TWO UP
Back me up Bob... Shattered Dreams, Wogan, Top of the Pops.... pfft!!
Nothing is wrong with LONG BALLS!!
Agreed with UWS as that wasn't the pick of the passes from the England keeper. A hospital ball intended for Digne , who fouled Noble. The ref played the advantage and fair play to Jarmalenko , who scored a superb goal./
A long ball would have been better in that case. Hammers to get their first three points of the season?
Unusual effort by Theo there, tipped over by Flappy.
Flappy does well to tip over a volley from former Gunners teammate , Theo.
I'll sign you up for the 80s Wimbledon FC training videos, UWS. ;-)
Should have done better there
3 on 1 and the Everton striker shot
Am familiar with Terry Wogan , JHJ,and Top of the Pops . Not sure what comes next in the sequence.
Agreed. Nice save by Flappy from Tosun , but should have scored.
Didn't say all the time... but NOTHING is wrong with a long ball..there are 50 millions players playing in the midfield these days
I wanted Bob to back me up on What's App with Tony
Everton want a pen... it is called outside the box...correct decision
Was that a penalty? Very close but probably offside when Masuaku pummels Theo.
As things stand , the Hammers move up four places and out of the drop zone. The Terriers back in the drop zone, behind Evil Neil's side on goal difference.
What about JHJ and Wogan, mate?
A wreckless challenge by Masuaku on Theo that looks like he aimed for the man bun
Le Sox always want to get men sent off.. always want controversy
He was looking at the ball the whole time.. totally unintentional
Now Le Sox agrees
Free kick straight to Flappy as Marco Silva wanted a red card for Masuaku given for that challenge. I've seen those given
Jon Jo Kenny fouls Anderson just outside the Toffees box.
A waste as the free kick is played short and the cross is basically a pass to Pickford.
Bernard , the tiny Brazilian on for Schneid , who may not be in the right frame of mind since his dad passed away this week. An attacking move as well.
Against my better judgment, I've just engaged the bruvver conflict on WhatsApp. Should be on the blog.
Thanks for backing me up Bob.... bloody autocorrect
A pair of stoppage time minutes.
Goal... Everton get back into it at the very end of the half
GOAL !!! SIGGY HEADS THE TOFFEES BACK INTO THE MATCH
GOAL! Siggy pulls one back on the stroke of half-time with a lovely header!
1-2!
Half time
Nice goal by Siggy
Perfect timing as the Toffees trail 1-2 on the stroke of half time and now it is halftime. Should be quite a second half.
Well, that changes the half-time team talks, doesn't it. Game on!
Superb team goal. Nice long possession that culminated in Gana playing a ball wide right to Kenny. His superb cross was met with a superb header from Siggy.
Second half underway from Goodison.
Back on at Goodison. It was all looking really peachy for the Hammers until that late Siggy header.
Everton get an early chance but not enough in the box
Yarmo earns himself a yellow now. Very eventful debut for him now - two goals and a booking to boot!
Jarmalenko with a booking to go along with a brace of goals.
