Premiership Football is Back!
Phew! That was an especially interminable international break. Fortunately, we're back with a bang this morning, and I can't wait. First up is Spurs and Liverpool. It doesn't get better than that, does it? Then we've got the 10am kickoffs, including Citeh on NBC Sports and Chelski on CNBC. In the Championship, Leeds make a trip to the Evil Den to meet Evil Millwall. We finish then with unbeaten Watford against Man United. So get yourself some brekkies and pull up a chair, eh?

Premier League
Morning boys
This was supposed to be the day Spurs began life in their new stadium, a gleaming reward for the recent lack of squad investment. Instead, the move has been put back, triggering a run of on and off-field misfortune that has eroded any optimism fostered by winning their first three games.
Morning, UWS - great to be back with you on a Saturday morning. How's your week been?
Liverpool come here as league leaders - and my best hope of claiming the LOB Shield - with four wins from four, but their fortunes at the new Wembley are in stark contrast to the old ‘Anfield South’. They’ve lost their last four competitive games here, including a 4-1 thrashing last season that tore their title ambitions to shreds.
Teams in the tunnel..
Teams in the tunnel now:
Tottenham (4-3-1-2): Vorm; Trippier, Alderweireld, Vertonghen, Rose; Dier, Dembele, Winks; Eriksen; Lucas, Kane
Subs: Gazzaniga, Aurier, Davies, Sanchez, Wanyama, Lamela, Son
Liverpool (4-3-3): Alisson; Alexander-Arnold, Gomez, Van Dijk, Robertson; Milner, Wijnaldum, Keita; Salah, Firmino, Mané
Subs: Mignolet, Fabinho, Matip, Moreno, Henderson, Shaqiri, Sturridge
My school opening has been fine. Very pleased about my two advanced classes... no behavior problems!
Here they come
Apparently there is a website called BandsFC that tracks matches based on their supporters in the music world. So, this one is Chas and Dave v. Echo and the Bunnymen.
No contest - it's all Liverpool, then. Come on, the Reds!
That's great to hear - hope they keep it up.
Away we go
And we're back in the Premiership!
The Wembley pitch doesn't look right
The Three Amigos in the booth again - Arlo, Lee and Graeme.
Premier League
GOAL... NO... OFFISDE
Liverpool have it in the net within seconds but Firmino and Mane are both flagged offside.
Oh - Firmino is in again. Spurs are still in the dressing room!
LIVERPOOL ARE ALL OVER THEM
I fear Liverpool's title drought will be over...it lasted longer than United's!!! I can't ever root for them for what they did to me but they are exciting to watch
Good to see Harry Winks back in the side. I think he could play a role for England eventually.
Mane wins a cheap one off Winks and now Liverpool have a dangerous free kick.
Liverpool's pace going forward is terrifying... why doesn't Jose see that
TAA seems to be lining it up. Curls it in but Lloris collects it. How is Lloris playing today after the DUI?
Did you see the table they showed earlier for the Big Six Mini League? United on top!
I did... stunning!
It was all post Fergie
Problem is... United lose to Brighton, Newcastle, Huddersfield etc
Vorm is playing Mr. DWI is injured
Spurs are second best here
Is Mr. Gold Medal on the bench today?
He is
The two ten o'clockers could be boring matches
Chelsea Cardiff
City Fulham
All this playing out from the back is really annoying me
It is the 'correct' way to play.... I just don't get it. How do professional teams put themselves in danger... When in doubt kick it out! The defenders aren't as skillful as the front men. It isn't their job!
I read an article from Gary Neville saying that under Fergie, they didn't hit it long. Fergie said to play it forward!
The keeper was the sixth option for him as a right back
Arsenal were the worst - the epitome of flat track bullies.
The problem with the modern day game is that not enough players get into the penalty area and not enough balls are delivered in there
Wide men don't take a man on, get it to the by-line and cross the ball.
These days, they play on the wrong side, cut the ball back and if a cross does come over... it is from the top of the box
Nice save by Vorm from Salah
I think the playing out from the back nonsense is just a trend. It will go away. I was watching it really carefully during the England v. Switzerland match. In most cases, when players played it backward in order to maintain possession, it eventually went back to the keeper who lumped it up and lost possession. And in several instances, it risked a goal.
Oh - big mistake by Dier, allowing Salah in on goal. Worm bailed him out.
I hope so... it is all for possession crap
United always pass it around... fancy modern day crap... it gets back to De Gea....who kadumphs it
Have Spurs done anything?
Ericksen gets the ball in the box.... finds NO ONE... of course the cross is blocked
Free kick chance just to the right of the D
Ericksen free kick better be better than his cross
Maybe the Bury Beckham to take...he can do it in World Cup Semi Finals!!
22 minutes away... sigh
Ericksen... weak effort...just like his cross
Great cut and thrust to this match right now. Surely there are goals to come.
Lucas Moura should have done better with that ball in from Ericksen.
Is Kate being affected by Florence down in VA?
Just read that Tim Howard has become part owner of Dagenham and Redbridge!
Oh - Mane was nearly in there again. He tries one off balance that nearly trickles by Worm.
Verton... takes a shot from halfway.... Spurs had a chance to break!
Vertonghen thinks he's Pele all of a sudden. Seeing Alisson off his line, he goes for a long one. Well wide.
So, is Timmy Howard staying in England?
Yes - it's been pounding Richmond for a couple of days now. I was meant to be down there but all of the flights were cancelled yesterday, so I had Gooner get my ticket reimbursed.
GOAL! Liverpool are in the lead!
Goal...Liverpool take the lead... goal line technology...no arguing!
Def goal
Clearly over the line there. Vorm failed to claw it out and it's a goal for Winaldjum.
0-1 Liverpool!
Great time for Liverpool to score - now they just have to finish out the last five minutes and go into the dressing room 0-1 up.
Has anyone ever won the Double on LOB
Do you have room for both trophies!!!
Looking for the box the Lancer Cup came in... have to get it to you
Oh - Winaldjum breaks again and goes for goal as Firmino is marked up. Scuffed his shot.
No one has ever won the double. Of course, I can make room for both trophies! Luv it!
Into added time... one minute
Half time
Liverpool deserving of their lead
Half-time - Liverpool definitely on top. Could have been two or three goals up now. Spurs in the dumps, probably sick of playing at Wembley.
Off to make my bagel.
Good morning Bob and Dave. Just woke up and have a pot of coffee brewing,.
Looks like a beautiful sunny day in London, which is the direct opposite of here.
Back on at Wemberley. For some reason, Spurs' Gold Medal Winner is still on the bench, despite the injury to Dele Alli. Why?
Second half underway from Wembley
Spurs get us underway in the second half.
Good morning, Bob. How was your week?
When they asked Oliver Twist the time he gave two answers . Do you want to know them?
Lucas Moura tried to burst through but was well marshaled out.
Defending like that from Gomez Addams is more like Morticia , but Lucas Mora was tackled before he could get a shot off.
Oh - off the woodwork from Robertson!
Cross of the cross bar then Alexander-Arnold has a shot blocked by Vertognhen for a corner.
Morning, MUR - how are you mate? Great to have you on board for some puns. We've been sorely lacking.
Oh - Mane spun and shot - well saved, Worm!
Mane OH Mane . Great save by Worm from Mane off a pass from Salah.
Busy emptying the dishwasher... still watching at Mane almost doubles Pool's lead
Lucas Moura hits the outside of the post...hit the target
Cheers, mate. A decent week. Off Monday for Rosh Hasannah then off yesterday because I didn't feel like coming in for a field day. How was your week?
Oh - Lucas Moura bursts into the box but only hits the post with his effort. He's the only one who looks at all dangerous. Harry Kane ha been invisible.
Good Morning, Dave. How have you been?
Agreed that Mora should have hit the target
Morning David
Well, a bit longer than yours. I was supposed to be down in Richmond for a memorial service this weekend, but Hurricane Florence knocked out all of the flights. So I'm batching it up again this weekend.
Kane has been invisible
When Oliver Twist was asked the time he said: It's goal time and the Early Liver Bird Beats the Worm.
GOAL! Liverpool are two up! Firmino slams home!
Been well... school has started off well. Having the two classes that want to learn
TWO NIL
GOAL !!! BOBBY F PUTS POOL TWO UP WITH A REALLY SCRAPPY GOAL
Comedy of errors inside the box!!
How did that ball go thru Vorm's hands..it WORMED passed him
Mane got to the by-line and put a great ball in that Vertonghen could only put onto the post. Somehow the ball squeezed between Worm's hands and Firmino benefited.
0-2!
I'm sitting pretty at the top of the PPP league with this result. Shall I call the engravers?
Mane OH Mane ! what Spursy defending Pool were passing it around for fun then Robertson was played down the left. His cross was deflected off the post and Spurs players were caught ball watching as Bobby F scored from an inch out
Liverpool nine points ahead of United
Gooner must be having a good chuckle at this Spurs shower. He should be on the blog gloating!
Not yet, mate. There's still all those cup competitions yet to be decided. Lots of points still rmaaining.
Dave, Delighted that the year has started well. You deserve it.
Allison gathers a pacy cross in front off Harry Kane not Abel to connect
A wide man beats a man out wide and gets the ball across... of course... cross stunk
Mane fouled just outside the Spurs box/.
Lamela on for Dembele.
Free kick from Milner headed down and The Early Bird doesn't beat The Worm who gathers.
I am going to have miss my first Back To School Night this Thursday. The family are flying off to Florida for a wedding. We are flying into Fort Laud and then driving to Naples
Leaving Thursday afternoon(4ish) coming back Sunday... so I will be a no show for next week's games
Agreed, Bob. Gooner must be delighted.
I don't have a good feeling about the late match today
No Mora than a great tackle by Gomez Addams./
You will be missed but enjoy the wedding. I missed back to school night because that was the day I took Melanie back to San Marcos.
Oh - Liverpool have three against two. Keita ends up with the shot but it's unconvincing. Worm saves easily.
Mane puts through Keita and with just Worm to beat, his shot is tipped over.
Spurs have an attacking throw-in down the left... they go backwards... goes thru the back four to the other side of the field
Throw the ball into the box!!
I prefer Stoke long throw... Bob always disses the long throw..not me. It could be more dangerous than a corner
Liverpool blow a break chance
Enjoy your time in the Sunshine State, mate.
Agreed, Dave, Based on current form the late one will be tough for United at VR
Should be a thriller!
Too much passing around!!
Just get into the box...would I be fired if I was in charge?
I have to travel off to the Berkshire's this afternoon to coach Siena
Bob, I remember Kate mentioning the service being in late August or early September, Please send or condolences.
I am still officially the assistant coach but Matt(who graduated) is actually coaching. I am giving him my pay checks...but today he is off to visit some friends in Boston. Probably going to Fenway this evening
Cross from Eriksen driven across the box and diverted wayward by Harry Kane.
Spurs had a chance there as the cut back came to Erickson who fired a shot over that HK could only flick toward goal.
I will be absent the second half of the late match due to a tutoring job.
Bobby F down holding his face. Looked an accidental elbow from Vertonghen
Jurgen tells Kevin that he is not his Friend.
Bobby Firmino is down with a small cut on his face. Meanwhile, Pool are trying to get Hendo on as a replacement for Keita.
Mr Gold Medal coming on
And finally Potch releases the Son. About time - they've only got twenty minutes left.
Jurgen tells Kevin that he is not his Friend.
Number One Son about to come on while the sun is out
A wink for Number One Son as he comes on while the sun is out
Like for like as Hendo is on for Keita.
Liverpool have scored 11 and conceded 1
Wish that was at OT
Useless free kick... it hit the wall's shins!!
Ever since I became a United fan in around 1970... even with all Liverpool's titles in the 70s and 80s... I have NEVER wished Untied played the way Liverpool did!
Unitl lNOW
After the final whistle on this one, I will be going on walkies with Shadow. I like to go at that time. I listen to 5Live as they go around the grounds
Absolutely . Pool is fun to watch and deserve being top based on performances.
The latest is that the new Spurs stadium will open November 24th. Will it even be available this season?
Elizabeth is currently walking Sparky on an overcast and very humid morning.
Spurs have definitely declined since last season. The gamble to not do any business in the transfer market this summer is not paying off. A lot of tired players out there.
Oh - Salah tries a curler for #3 but Worm is wise to it.
Worm does well to save a long range curler from Salah then Man e puts the rebound over.
Tired from Nation's League duty , which can be really exhausting.
Can Spurs make this interesting for the last ten minutes?
I doubt it
Kane is doing nothing
Good ball in to Kane but he doesn't have the pace to chase it down.
Like for like as Wanyama on for a real Dier of a player.
Salah in again but Wanyama put him off.
Two solo runs by Salah and both thwarted by great Spurs defending.
Just wide by Lamela seconds later.
Weak effort from Lamela
Lamela with a great cross off a great Spurs possession and a looper of a header from Harry Kane is Abel only to make it to Allison.
This one is pretty much done and dusted.
Travelling fans from Merseyside delighted based on their chanting.
Matip on for TAA As Jurgen aims to shut up shop.
5 added minutes
Into stoppage time and a singing quintet of stoppage time minutes as Mane blasts over a long range effort.
Brekkies for Sparky and Yours Truly once Oliver Twist blows the final whistle.
A comprehensive win here for the league leaders. They could have won by three or four in all honesty.
GOAL! Lamela squeezes a goal in from an acute angle!
Game on?
goal... Lamella nets for Spurs
Is there a chance ?
Danny Rose has a shot deflect off of Gomez Addams for a corner off a pass from Lamela. GOAL LAMELA PULLS ONE BACK FOR SPURS AT THE FAR POST OFF THE CORNER AS IT ELUDED EVERYONE AND LAMELA WAS FREE AT THE FAR POST TO BLAST IN FROM TWO YARDS OUT. A SLIGHLTLY DIFFICULT ANGLE. NOW 1-2
Now Spurs have free kick taken by Trippier and headed away by Wijnaldum
Free kick cleared
Wasn't that dangerous
Why didn't Spurs put this much effort in for the first 92 minutes
Not sure if there's enough time for Desmond to make a Wembley appearance.
Novel idea...long throw
Son with a chance... goes out for goal kick
Number One Son with a shot blocked for a corner.
That's it
Liverpool hold on
I am off for walkies
It's over and Pool are the real deal as they win 1-2 at Wembley. Opening the season with five wins in five for the first time since 1990.
So, five straight wins for Liverpool. What a lovely way to start the morning. I'm off to the post office and the dry cleaners ahead of the 10 am kickoffs. Back in a tick.
The televised 10 AM matches feature newly promoted teams making tripos to top clubs.ON NBCSN, Citeh vs the Cottagers and on CNBC Chelsea vs Evil Neil;s lads./
Question. Has anyone bought the NBC Gold package and if yes can I borrow the log-in and password details so I can watch the Arsenal match?
609 days since Arsenal have played away from home at 3 o'clock on a Saturday!!!
Back for the regularly scheduled matches. Sadly there is no coverage of the league leaders on ESPN+. Instead they've got Swansea (8th) against Forest (14th). Pathetic.
Team selections of note:
Bournemouth: David Brooks comes in for Simon Francis.
Leicester: Jamie Vardy returns from suspension, while Marc Albrighton drops to the bench.
Chelsea: Pedro and Olivier Giroud start, while Willian and Alvaro Morata are out.
Cardiff City: Neil Warnock fields the same starting eleven that scored twice in defeat against Arsenal.
Huddersfield: Elias Kachunga starts.
Crystal Palace: Wilfrid Zaha, James Tomkins and Cheikhou Kouyate start, while Martin Kelly, Christian Benteke and Jeffrey Schlupp make way.
Newcastle: Jacob Murphy, Issac Hayden, Matt Ritchie and Joselu start. Salomon Rondon and Kenedy are dropped.
Arsenal: Unai Emery picks the same side that started against Cardiff City.
Welcome, Gooner! I haven't ponied up for it yet. Sorry.
I'll be watching the Citeh v. Fulham match on NBC Sports. Here's the team news:
Man City: Ederson, Walker, Otamendi, Laporte, Delph, Bernardo Silva, Fernandinho, Silva, Sterling, Aguero, Sane.
Subs: Stones, Gundogan, Mahrez, Gabriel Jesus, Zinchenko, Foden, Muric.

Back from a shower. The match yesterday was a West Midlands Derby between the Brummies and the Baggies
Good morning, Gonner. You must have enjoyed the early match
In the Bundesliga , Bayern lead Bayer 2-1 midway through the first half.
Don't understand why the Red Button channel isn't working
All the others are!
Watching Only Fools and Horses on Gold
BB1 is working as well
Off at the Etihad
They're of From SB as they are a few seconds later from the Etihad.
We're away at the Etihad, or Maine Road, as I like to call it. Citeh in their usual clobber. Fulham in some some of all blue number, looking a bit like Chelski. Disgraceful!
20 years ago.... third tier match.... and United and Arsenal were the cream of the crop...this is the season United won the treble!
The Cottagers win an early corner.
Good start by Fulham and then they give the ball away and one nil City!!
PATHETIC!
The corner is eventually cleared then GOAL
FERNIE TAKES ADVANTAGE OF A GIVE AWAY AND PASSES FOR AN EASY TAP IN FOR SANE.
Well, that didn't take long. Citeh 1-0 up after some juvenile defending from the Cottagers.
BLOODY MODERN DAY TACTICS!
A horrible start for the Cottagers / As the corner was clEARED A ROUTINE BACK PASS MADE IT TO KEEPER, bATTINELLI, who gifted possession to Fernie and he ran unchallenged for Sane to easily score.
In the other match we're hoping that Evil Neil will be Mau Sarri than his counterpart at SB>
Jokanavic, the manager of the Cottagers, the first Serb to manage in the Prem.
In the Championship, Benik Afobe has put Stoke 1-0 up against Not a Big Club and Jarrod Bowen has given Hull the lead over the Tractor Boys.
The Tigers take the lead vs the Tractor Boys in a surprising early season relegation six pointer.
What match is on ESPN+?
You will be pleased about that score from Hillsborough.
The Swans vs Forest is on Plus.
There have been some goals in L1 but I can't be bothered.
It's bloody Swansea and Forest. 8th v. 14th. Grrrr!
Charlton takes the lead at Bradford.
Top of the table clash in the division
Posh v Pompey
Thanks for commenting on red button link not working. I thought it was me
I bailed out and found a sneaky link via a reddit comment. It’s a pirated gold link, hurrah! Serves them right.
The Toon pressing us on the ball, and surprise, we’re put off by it. Bloody Arsenal.
Shrews take the lead vs Southend ... On Sea. . Just in case anyone is interested.
Rochdale takes the lead vs the Gils.
