An Intriguing Saturday Morning
Morning, chaps - we've got a rather intriguing morning ahead of us. It all starts with a Liverpool road trip to Leicester. Then at 10am, we've got the usual slate of Premiership and Championship fixtures, including Chelsea hosting Bournemouth on NBC Sports. At the end of the day, we've got Man City taking on Newcastle. Join me for all the fun and games, won't you?

Morning, chaps - I'm settling in to watch Leicester v. Liverpool. On paper one might favor Liverpool in this one, as the Reds have been off to a flying start and are top of the league today. However, Leicester are one of Liverpool’s bogey teams. The Foxes have beaten the Reds at the King Power in each of the last three seasons, 2-0 and 3-1 in the League, 2-0 in the League Cup. Throw in a couple of famous FA Cup wins in the sixties, and a habit of winning at Anfield in the eighties and nineties, and Jurgen Klopp’s side should be right to be wary of a club that have Liverpool’s number.
Good morning, Bob. Up to join you as there's a pot of coffee brewing. Will be leaving at halftime to take Sparky and Fred for their annual vaccinations. Should be back for the 10 AM matches.
Morning, MUR - thanks for joining in. It's great to have you on board. How has your week been?
Great thank you for asking. Took Thursday and Friday off ahead of the three day weekend. How was your week?
Liverpool haven't won their first four matches since 1990. Can they do it? We'll soon see. Kickoff approaches.
Really busy but good - I won more victories than I suffered defeats. Now looking forward to a three-day weekend and a short week next week.
Vardy is still serving a suspension. Will the Foxes still be a threat?
They're off from the KP/
And we're off - both teams wearing their traditional colors - wonderful lunch-time atmosphere in the King Power.
Jon Champion announcing as he did yesterday.
Sounds like a busy if productive week and as if you could use the three day weekend.
Great to see the traditional colors.
Doubtful, mate.
Morning Boys
A bit delayed getting to the computer just as Liverpool didn't score from two BIG chances!
Liverpool should be one-up within three minutes. Firmino was played in but could only hit the keeper but Salah with a big miss on the follow-up.
Morning, UWS - how are you, mate?
Bobth Bobby F and Salah should have scored. Great one touch pasisng. Bobby F shot straight at Kapser clean through then Salah shot the rebound wide.
Leicester are struggling here!
They will miss Vardy
Liverpool already creating more chances then another certain team in red
Good morning, UWS. Great to have you around for this intriguing fixture.
Leicester having trouble clearing their lines already.
Really bummed!
School starts back on Tuesday for me
Kids on Thursday
Weather is supposed to be in the 90s!! Not looking forward to that
Mane puts Liverpool into a very early lead....boy I wish United played like this
GOAL! Mane breaks the deadlock with his fourth of the season. It was coming!
GOAL !!!MANE OH MANE!!! LIVERPOOL TAKE THE LEAD.
A long Liverpool possession culminated in Robertson going down the left, looking like the former Forest legend and his pass was put away by Mane past the stranded Kasper after he took a touch. Lack of commitment with those defensive challenges.
Sorry, UWS. At least the heat will be temporary. Wishing you the best year possible.
Liverpool looking mighty impressive so far.
If Burnley defend like the Foxes did for that goal then United can play poorly and still win. Hope Burnley is tired from that EL match they played on Thursday.
Agreed and considering it's at one of their bogey grounds.
Joe Gomez more like Gomez Addams with that header off the corner.
Thanks
At least I am teaching both advanced classes
Leicester are sitting deep now, letting Liverpool stroke it around in the midfield. There are no openings for the visitors, but they continue to hog the ball.
Liverpool attack with such pace
You're welcome. That's outstanding and will help. Glad you have a good schedule.
I hope that both of you have great school years. Have you started the count down, MUR?
Liverpool defend much better than United as well.
Maddison has been an intriguing additional to Leicester's side. I like the look of him every time I see him.
Mr President had a chance to create something there but made the wrong option
Leicester do get a shot off...Gray with a nice run and shot and well saved
Remember Leicester were the better side at Old Trafford
Decent stop by Allison from Damari Gray as he was put through
Allison is finally tested - does well! Three clean sheets so far for Liverpool.
Liverpool haven't conceded a goal all season!
Eight without reply
Chilly wins a Foxes corner on a warm, sunny afternoon.
Allison easily reads the President's corner without help from the Russians.
Gray well over with that effort.
Good spell for the hosts here.
Minnie on the subs bench while Karius went on a two year loan deal to Besiktas in Turkey because he's been playing like one.
High boot by Milner on that last challenge.
Albrighton well wide with a long range effort.
The President not over with a long range effort and none too pleased that it wasn't awarded as a corner.
Sorry. Meant well over.
I don't think I will be around for the late one today at the Etihad... it will be a walloping anyway
I might have a game to coach at Siena tomorrow during United's match...I won't have to live thru torture then
I won't be around for the late one either because I will be tutoring someone.
Allison Becker easily saves a long range effort from Chilly.
Back from the bog to see that I did NOT miss a goal
Kapser does well tot turn around a long range effort from Salah off a long Pool possession.
Kasper fists out the corner from Milner for another, or was it headed out by Mendy
Two Nil
Fermino scores from a second corner
GOAL . BOBBY F HEADS IN THE CORNER TO PUT POOL TWO UP.
Into stoppage time.
Mr President fouled on the first corner then failed to mark for the second one.
A free header for an easy second Pool goal.
HT
Halftime as Pool, are two up and easily in control of this match
Should be back for the 10 AM matches.
Liverpool troop in 0-2 up after a quite scintillating performance and goals from Mane and Firmino.
second half underway
Mr President with a shot easily saved by Allison
At least I want Liverpool to concede
An atrocious corner by Mr President.... at least it beat the first man...it almost landed outside the far side of the box tho
Mr President almost in... last second block
Oh - Maddison was nearly in there. Good start to the half from the hosts.
Another shot....at least Leicester are creating some chances
Wonderful block there from Gomez, who's been excellent today. That's the difference between Liverpool last year and this year. They scored loads of goals last season but let in a bunch too. This season, they've kept three clean sheets while scoring seven. This could be four with nine goals.
They've score NINE!
Now Maddison earns a free kick off Van Dyck.
4-0, 2-0, 1-0 and 2-0 so far
Yeah - very impressive. And they've played some good sides.
Liverpool should have had double figures there! All made by an atrocious pass by Morgan!! Phaffing about with the ball in the back...not allowed in our day
True - we were always told to clear our lines first and worry about playing out from the back second.
Liverpool have conceded!
The first mistake that Alisson has made in Liverpool colors. As we said earlier, clear your lines first and worry about pretty football next.
FINALLY...LIVERPOOL CONCEDE
Atrocious play by the keeper but Leicester almost blow it!
Leicester's tails are up now - knock it off!
If Alisson had just lumped it out of play, Liverpool would probably have gone on to win this 3 or 4-0. Now they're under the cosh!
I can't root for Liverpool...ever!!
They scarred me for life while living in England!
I was on your side for your World Cup pick but I can't for the Premier League
It’s all Leicester right now. Liverpool have lost control of the midfield again.
Ha! I'm the maverick this season - everyone else picked City!
Salah coming off...that wasn't expected
Salah trooping off after a rare goalless outing for him. Shaqiri on for him.
We need to get you the Lancer Cup!! I forgot it was still up in Tom's room
I hope we still have the box
That would be lovely. It's going to look terrific on the sideboard.
Gray coming off now - Okazaki on for him.
Chilwell takes one in the knackers. He's down for the count.
Germany 1 England 5
17 years ago today
Zaha not in Palace squad for their game at Selhurst against the Saints
He was also left out of the Ivory Coast squad... for personal reasons
Mane gets to the header but puts it wide. Could have done better.
This one seems to be petering out now.
I was living in Japan then. I could not believe that result.
Into the last five minutes...If Liverpool hold on..they would be nine points ahead of United
Still love to watch the highlight of that match with John Motson and Trevor Brooking on the mic
5 added minutes
Makes no sense!
I don't know why people don't complain more about the inconsistency in added time
Five stoppage time minutes to play.
Bloody corner flagging it... so bloody boring
Me too - Owen scores his hat-trick and Motty says, "Ohhh - this is just getting bettah and bettah!" Classic!
Free kick chance for the Foxes
Now a corner
Late corner chance now for the Foxes.
Kasper comes up for the corner
too deep again
Free kick for Liverpool now
I think that will be it
Kasper is coming up for the corner!
All over now - Liverpool have won their first four matches for the first time in decades. Great start to the season for them - they've set the pace.
That's it
I am off for walkies
I'll be back for the 10 o'clockers
Back for the 10 AMers and missed Liverpool conceding their first match of the season.
I'm back for the 10 am kickoffs now. Teams coming out at Stamford Bridge:
Chelsea: Arrizabalaga, Azpilicueta, Rudiger, Luiz, Alonso, Kante, Jorginho, Kovacic, Willian, Morata, Hazard.
Subs: Barkley, Pedro, Loftus-Cheek, Caballero, Giroud, Zappacosta, Christensen.
AFC Bournemouth: Begovic, Francis, Steve Cook, Ake, Rico, Smith, Gosling, Lerma, Fraser, King, Wilson.
Subs: Boruc, Surman, Mousset, Ibe, Lewis Cook, Brooks, Mings.
Referee: Lee Mason (Lancashire)
NBCSN will be televising Chelsea vs the Cherries.
Chelski start the day in third; Bournemouth in sixth. Should be an open and entertaining affair with two managers of similar philosophies.
They're off from SB
I am back after walkies just in time for kick off
As I was walking, 5Live said that the Asian Cup Final was 0-0 after 90 minutes between South Korea and Japan
The Koreans have scored two goals in Extra Time
Looks like it's good news for Son and Spurs
Agreed. This match seems to be the pick of the 10 AM matches
Welcome back. Wasn't aware of the Asian Cup Final. Thought that would be during the international break
Bournemouth almost in there!!
Am I right that Son is still in danger of having to do military service?
The Cherries high press has caused Chelsea some early problems. If Chelsea isn't careful then they will be Mau Sarri than expected.
I'm not sure about that. Do they still have that requirement?
Bugger.... Final Score isn't on the Red Button
Yes... two years of service unless you win the Asian Cup or semis of the World Cup
That's why he went to the tourney
You may not be surprised to learn that Christian Benteke has made a weak attempt to score for Crystal Palace against Southampton.
Yes... two years of service unless you win the Asian Cup or semis of the World Cup
That's why he went to the tourney
Albion Rovers takes an early lead vs Berwick Rangers
I wouldn't expect anything more of Beneteke.
All over in Asia and Son can kiss those soldier dreams goodbye. He'll be back in Spurs colors after the international break.
I'm not happy to see that the Evil Blades have taken he lead against Villa.
Kovacic tackled for a Chelsea corner then a double save by Begovic from Willian on his return to SB
It's over
South Korea 2 Japan 1
In the Championship, Leeds are top based on goal difference and three points ahead of Bolton in third. Also five points above Brentford in seventh.
It is good for Leeds in the standings though
It's a return to Bramall Lane for Brucie where he started his managerial career.
Great run by Willian to the by-line and Lerma cleared frantically with some help from his hand.
Hearts in the lead vs newly promoted St. Helen Mirren, who failed to keep a poker face.
The Fake Dons take the lead at Swindon.
Technical difficulties at the Bridge..off to the London Stadium
Wow - NBC are switching over to West Ham v. Wolves while they pull their fingers out at Stamford Bridge.
Off to the London Stadium where the Hammers host Wolves due to technical difficulties at SB<
Is this a record for modern day football
I have seen three matches so far today at Leicester, Chelsea and West Ham
ALL SIX teams are in traditional colors!!
Surprised since both teams at SB are supposedly great technical sides
Bloody Burghley Horse Trials on the Red Button
If you include yesterday we're eight for eight. That's quite a streak in modern footie.
Bob will not be pleased that Not a Big Club have taken the lead at The Mad Stad. May be pleased that Ridsdale's lads have taken the lead vs Bolton.
Oldham take the lead at Crawley in the post Harry Kewell era.
Not pleased at all about that. Both rubbishy Sheffield clubs leading so far.
Colchester takes the lead at Cheltenham,
Stevie Nicks singing about Fleetwood Mac taking the lead vs Bradford City
My cousin has just sent a picture of entering Fratton Park for Pompey's match against Plymouth
Barnsley takes the lead vs the Gils as does Wycombe vs Luton in a match between two newly promoted clubs.
WOW !!!! That's quite a photo op.
Just noticed PNE are two up against the top two's nearest rivals Bolton!
Was that posted already?
Fairly easy schedule for Leeds after the international break:
Millwall (18th) away followed by PNE again (15th) and then Birmingham (20th) away. I'll take maximum points from those three.
Ridsdale's lads go two up vs Bolton. Third and fourth place both trailing. Baggies take the lead vs Potters in a match between two clubs relegated from the Prem last season
Not a good morning for Fred. First his annual vaccines then the Oxford Shoes walk their way to the lead at The SOL.
With Pompey losing it's first points of the seasons last week with a draw
Peterborough are top with a 100% record
Sunderland overtook Pompey on GD
Peter and Pompey are 0-0
Sunderland losing at home to Oxford
This one is hardly a classic. Wolves have the edge but not a lot of chances for either side.
Blades 2-0 vs Villa
Cambridge takes the lead at Stevenage as does Newport at Vale.
Wolves have looked the better side at the London Stadium
Fredricks , of the Hammers, booked for a tackle from behind.
Bradford City tie it up at Highbury
The Blades are 2-0 up now and up to third above Bolton. Bah humbug!
Motley Crewe jam on about taking the lead vs newly promoted Macclesfield.
St. Helen Mirren ties it up at the Queen of Hearts in a great poker game.
Derby take the lead at Hull...after crushing them midweek in the League Cup
Frankie Lamps lads take the lead at the KC
Pompey take the lead!!
Brighton have missed a penalty. Glenn Murray was brought down but Pascal Gross had his effort saved.
Pompey takes the lead vs Argyle. Congrats to you and your cousin
Bright miss a penalty at the AMEX against Fulham
Still scoreless in the 5 Premier League matches
Riveting!
Sounds like a Gross error of judgement.
Tomorrow Noon UK Time
The Old Firm Derby and the The Old Farm Derby
I heard they don't take American Express at The Cottage.
The suits at NBC have switched us back to the Bridge. Still 0--0 there.
What on earth is happening at Stamford Bridge!!
How bad can the technical difficulties be
As I type....back we are in West London... that was a quick trip from East to West of the capital
AN interesting coincidemce, but quite understandable that they're noon kickoffs as we're back at SB
It must have been a ride in a supersonic jet.
Cambridge leading at Stevenage
The Old Farm Derby this season is 21st against 23rd. Ouch!
Bury in the lead vs Morecambe and None Too Wise while Colchester two up at Cheltenham
Marcos Alonso goes into the book for a silly tug back. Don't know why players do that.
Crawley ties it up at Oldham as does Vale vs Newport.
Crawley ties it up at Oldham as does Vale vs Newport.
Chelsea have a 100% record but don't look too impressive to me at all
Agreed. Not sure what he was thinking.
Unexpected relegation six pointer . Watch it be a 0-0 draw.
Nor to me; similar to the Conte team. Nice and tight at the back but far too self-contained. They've got the players to turn it on but they don't.
Agreed, Dave. Don;t see them challenging for the title. Kovacic with a shot deflected for a corner.
Just got video of Pompey players congratulating themselves
Looks like a packed Fratton Park for the South Coast Derby
Kathy just delivered me a couple of crumpets!
Hearts now lead St. Mirren 2-1 as she loses the nest hand. Booked for arguing with the dealer.
Two quick goals at Goodison... missed the first but it is 1-1
I'll take a crumpet!
