Breakfast with the Leeds Boys
Greetings from Richmond, chaps! My father-in-law Charles has been kind enough to set me up with the ESPN+ link for the Villa v. Leeds match this morning on his big widescreen telly. What a treat! With Norwich winning yesterday, we need to keep up our winning ways this morning. Join me for all the action, won't you?

Morning, MUR! Great to have you on board
Teams coming out at Villa Park now. Come on, you Whites!
Looks like Barry Douglas must have gotten injured in the warm-up.
Great atmosphere at Villa Park and like ER, one of the great venues of English football. They're underway
And we're away at Villa Park!
Early ball in from Ali. No one near it.
Thanks, Bob. Glad to join you with the morning cuppa.
Great to have Luke Ayling back in the fold after injury.
Agreed. He sure was Ailing for a while.
Bugger! Tammy Abraham has put Villa up within five minutes.
BUGGER! TAMMY ABRAHAM GIVES VILLA THE LEAD OFF A HEAVY TOUCH FROM MCGINN AFTER SEVERAL ONE TOUCH PASSES FROM A THROW.
Sorry, Bob. COME ON LEEDS! MOT!
Now Pontus Jansson down after a poor challenge from Bolassie, who is booked for that
Now Pontus is prone, receiving treatment. This is going all pear shaped on us.
Looks like the big Swede will be able to continue.
Play resumes and a long free kick from the back and a shot from a yard out from Jack Harrison was blocked by El Moiahmmedy off the line. Thought that was an equalizer.
Oh - great chance there for Jack Harrison. Close call.
Bielsa sitting on his traditional cone of silence.
Oh - great cross now from Harrison and Ali was nearly onto it. We're knocking on the door.
I'm hoping to get a blue bucket for Christmas.
Kodja , the artful dodja, wins a Villa corner.
The Villa corner comes to nothing.
The artful dodja heads the corner from Hourihan well wide
Nice move there but Klich was caught offside.
That move did not Klich as the Polish international was well offside off a nice through ball./
I will check on Amazon to see if they have one of those buckets.
My blogging buddy is taking his requisite nap after posing for an FB picture.
Bugger! Hourihane has made it 2-0 Villa.
Leeds have been the better side but Villa have taken their chances well.
BUGGER ! HOURIHAN PUTS VILLA TWO UP WITH A CURLER.HARRISON COUGHED UP POSSESSION TO EL MOHAMMEDY. HE PASSED TO KODJA , WHO TRICKED HI WAY PAST TWO LEEDS PLAYERS AND PASSED TO HOURIHAN TO SCORE WITH THAT CURLING EFFORT.
The problem for us is that we haven't been scoring loads of goals, relying 1-0 wins. We now need to conjure up three to come back.
Leeds win their first corner of the match and Jansson heads well wide
Pontus appealing for a pen there. We need something like that to get back into this one.
Sorry, Bob.
COME ON LEEDS! TIME FOR A COMEBACK. MOT!
Cheers, mate - we'll need the goal spree that you lot had yesterday.
Leeds definitely had a shout for a penalty as Alan Hutton appeared to be holding Jansson
Great save by Nyland as a cross from Ali was back headed from a Villa defender , headed for the top corner. Well tipped over.
Nice run by Ali and nice through ball to Klich , but his tame effort was easily saved by Nyland
Oh - now Klich had a great chance! Right at Nyland, unfortunately.
Jansson called for a foul as Villa have a free kick
A fairly even match. Villa have taken their chances and been more clinical in front of goal.
That's it - and I think our defense has been unsettled by that late injury to Barry Douglas.
Academy grad, Lee Davis put in the starting lineup at the eleventh hour in place of the injured Barry Douglas.
He's a good prospect for us but not an adequate replacement in this kind of match.
A long range effort from Pablo Hernandez is easily caught by Nyland after and over cooked cross from Young Lee Davis.
Alioski goes down looking for a pen - nothing doing.
Villa players thought Ali dove in an attempt to win a Leeds penalty. The ref waves play on.
Agreed, Bob. It's a massive loss. It's a definitely a steep learning curve for the youngster.
Klich offside for about the third or fourth time.
Dean Smith shouting instructions to his Villa players. Former head coach of the UNC basketball team?
Bilesa now sitting on the invisible bucket. Should we order him a bucket from Amazon?
We've got a great free kick opportunity now. Pablo needs to bend this one in for us.
Definite hand ball by McGinn as Leeds have a free kick in a decent position.
Oh - really close from Pablo!
OH!!!! The free kick from Pablo Hernandez was about an inch or two wide. Nearly a goal for Leeds.
Solo run by young Lee Davis, but his through ball was off and Villa nearly countered on that
Roofe went down . Didn't looking a penalty as it appeared to be a collision between him and E.F. Hutton.
Hernandez wins a corner off of Glen Whelan. Great tackle by ALi on Kodja.
Corner from Whelan headed away by Ali
Villa nearly capitalize off a hospital ball. Leeds would have needed a trip to the ER If Villa had scored.
We need a goal back before half time!
A solo minute of stoppage time.
Oh - so close from Alioski. Really nice effort after a tasty move.
OH! A shot from Ali just outside the box is just wide.
it's halftime and Villa are two up thanks to two early goals. It's been a fairly even match
Half-time - Very frustrating so far. We've played reasonably well but haven't taken our chances. At the same time, the late injury to Douglas has unsettled our back four. 2-0 down.
We're back on at Villa Park. Bielsa has gone with Jack Clarke from the start. Good move.
Bielsa makes a substitution and it's Jack for Jack as Academy grad, Clarke , on for Harrison as the second half is underway
Off to a fast start but Kemar was caught offside.
Bolassie with a shot blocked for a Villa corner. it started with a tackle by el Mohammedy on Roofe
BPF catches the corner from Glen Whelan
Kodja picks Forshaw's pocket and shoots high and wide with just BPF to beat
Leeds host Black burn on Boxing Day then host the Tigers on Saturday. Leeds at Forest on New Year's Day, The New Years Day match will be on Plus
Lee Davis with a clumsy challenge on Tammy Abraham, who is still down
We need at least a point here. Come on!
Play resumes as Leeds have a spell of possession.
YESSSS!!!!!
Young Jack Clarke has fired us back into the match - what a goal!
WAY HAY! JACK CLARKE SCORES A SUPERB GOAL OFF A SOLO RUN . HIS FIRST FOR LEEDS AND WHAT A TIMELY GOAL. THE BALL WAS PLAYED WIDE LEFT TO CLARKE AND HE CUT INSIDE EL MOHAMEDY THEN SCORED WITH A SUPERB FINISH IN THE CORNER.
Game on as it's now 2-1. Congrats, Bob. The comeback is on.
COME ON LEEDS! SCORE MORE! MOT!
A superb cross field pass from Hernandez found Ali and his cross was headed wide by Jack Clarke.
That goal was scored with some Clarke shoes.
Leeds win another corner.
Let's have another!
YESSSSSS!!!!!!
Pontus has leveled it! Now let's go on and win it!
Corner from Ali headed away then Whelan tackles Hernandez for another Leeds corner.WAY HAY! DESMOND AT VILLA PARK JANSSON HEADS IN TH CORNER FROM ALI!
Congrats, Bob. Delighted for you. What a comeback
Meanhile, Dean Smith made a substitution as El Gazy came on for Kodja
OH!!! Nyland tips over a cross/ shot from Klich. OH!! Leeds should have had a penalty. Hand ball by Glen Whelan at the far post off a shot from Roofe. Nothing doing
How did the ref miss that? Leeds robbed as that was a stonewall penalty
We're knocking on the door now - great performance from us in this second half.
COME ON LEEDS! SCORE MORE. WIN THIS MATCH! MOT!
Should've been a pen for sure. That's two that he's missed.
Hutton fouls Ali just outside the Villa box off a lobbed pass from Hernandez. Leeds foul called off the free kick from Ali
Just saw that today is Melanie's birthday. Will you and Kate be part of the celebrations?
Klich booked for a foul on Hourihane on Villa's first attack for a while.
Klich with a tug back there - earns himself a yellow.
E. F. Hutton wins a corner off of Ayling on a run down the left
Twenty minutes left for us to conjure up a winner here. Might need to bring Patrick Bamford.
Roofe has a close range volley blocked for a corner off a superb cross from Ayling. Roofe down from that
Off due to a nosebleed. Corner headed away then the offside flag raised.
Kemar is frustrated that he'll have to come off for treatment for a nosebleed.
Another substitution by Dean Smith as Icelandic World Cup player, Bjaransson, is on for Glen Whelan
Leeds still down a player due to treatment for Roofe.
Not sure what the trend toward wearing these sports bras is in footer.
Now Jansson down for Leeds. Now back up.
Kemar has a new shirt on and has come back on.
Footie fashion sue has changed over the years . Hard to keep up with all these changes.
Now back to 11 v 11.
Fortunately, Bolassie didn't trust his left peg there. Phew!
Close range effort from Bolassie well over after the Leeds defense failed to deal with a pass from El Gazy. Nice pass from McGinn
One teen academy grad for another as Jamie Shackleton is on for Lee Davis, who made his first team debut
Leeds need a winner so they can go back top of the pops.
End to end stuff now.
Run and pass down the left from Bolassie , but his cross finds nobody. The Nyland saves a Leeds effort.
Oh - great stuff from Pablo but he shanked it wide.
Then Hernandez goes past Bolassie and Hutton , but shoots wide of the near post. Both teams going for the winner. Great to see.
McGinn booked for obstruction on Klich
Moment's applause for former Villa manager, Ron Saunders. Did he pass away?
He must have - I hadn't heard.
Jansson blocks a shot from Tammy Abraham for a Villa corner off a pass from Bkarnasson
Scott Hogan on for Bolassie on the final roll of the dice from Dean Smith
Forshaw miss kicks for another Villa corner
Oh - close call for us from the corner. Villa pressing for a winner now.
Close range reflex save from BPF off the corner from Bjarnasson. Next corner headed away
Nearly a clinical break there through Pablo.
Clumsy foul by Ali gets him a yellow and earns Villa a decent free kick chance now.
Ali called for a foul on El Gazy and booked for that, or for persistent fouling
Jansson heads away the free kick from Hourihane
A know a win moves Leeds top, ahead of the Canaries, but surely a draw at Villa Park is a decent result, considering the halftime score.
This is looking to be third consecutive match involving Villa that has finished Desmond. Also had a 5-5 draw vs Forest earlier this month
Jack Clarke earns a great free kick chance now. Come on!
A quintet of stoppage time minutes as composed by Bob
Pablo will float this one in....
Now Leeds have a free kick. A late winner?
Poor back pass from Shackleton, but BPF alertly clears. Nyland started it with a long throiw after he c aught the free kick from Hernandez.
Oh - Klich tries one from distance - keeper collects.
WOW! Kemar has won it right at the death!!!!!
I was just about to settle for a point, but then Kemar struck!
YESSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!! KEMAR ROOFE WINS IT FOR LEEDS OFF A GREAT FINISH FROM A POOR DEFENSIVE HEADER FROM EL MOHAMEDY OFF A CROSS FROM ALI AFTER HE RECEIVED A PASS FROM KLICH. IT STARTED WITH A LEEDS THROW BY THEIR OWN CORNER FLAG.
What a comeback. Back top of the pops! Congrats, mate!
Leeds matching the Canaries with a stoppage time winner.
It's over and Leeds come from two down early on to win 2-3 with a winner from Roofe deep in stoppage time.
Congratulations , Bob. Delighted for you in quite an exciting match. Off to take Sparky walkies ahead of the Prem match. Will you be around for that?
They're off from Goodison Park as the Toffees host the Spuds in the only Prem match of the day
Cheers, MUR! It was great sharing that famous win with you this morning.
