An Underwhelming Sunday
Kate and I had a late night, so I'm joining affairs a bit late this morning. I can't say that I'm thrilled with the offerings today. What on earth has happened to the FA Cup this season? I'm all for giant killing but this is ridiculous. The policy of the big clubs dismissing the importance of the Cup has meant that only Citeh, who won yesterday, and either Chelsea or United, who play tomorrow, will represent the top six in the quarterfinals. We could easily be heading for a, say Doncaster v. Millwall final, which might well and truly destroy the Cup. Join me if you're interested in watching the likes of Bristol City and Brentford this morning (sigh)....

I've joined Bristol City and Wolves half way through the first half - no goals as yet.
GOAL! Well, I must have brought the match some spark. Doherty finds a great area at the by-line and he finds Caballero who finishes with aplomb.
0-1 Wolves!
Oh - O'Dowda with nearly an immediate response with a spectacular effort. Didn't quite come off.
Oh - Doherty was in again then and struck the bar after working a one-two with Jimenez!
OH! Off the post from Jimenez. As with the goal, the pass came from Doherty.
Good morning, Bob Up and ready for the cup match that has come to life in the past few minutes.
Wolves starting to dominate as Jimenez puts through Dendoncker, who shoots a powerful effort straight to Frankie Fielding that is pushed around for a corner.
The options at 11 AM are Donny Trump vs Palace or the Swans vs the Bees. You must be licking your chops at the menu options
Bob, you will not be pleased that the Teesiders have taken the lead at Ewood Park.
Morning, MUR - how are you, mate?
Palmer, on loan from Chelsea , heads over a cross as John Ruddy in the Wolves goal could have easily brought a lounge chair to the match
I'm doing well. Thank you for asking.. Enjoying a five day weekend. How about you, mate?
I'm not at all pleased with the way that the scores have gone in the Championship this weekend; however, we did have things our way in midweek. Mustn't grumble. I've just looked in my book and have noticed that we've got 17 points more than at this stage last season. If we win our next two matches, we'd have 23 points better. Those two matches are winnable, and we've certainly had plenty of rest.
My Girona won 1-2 at the Bernabeu earlier this morning. That's the shock of the weekend, IMHO.
I'm looking forward to tomorrow at work, actually. My routine has been disturbed by a lot of tedious meetings recently and tomorrow is a day that most people will take off (although classes are still in session), so I'll have a chance to catch up on my writing.
That's a great outlook, mate. MOT!
Jacquelyn and I are off tomorrow, so a chance to sleep in late. Am taking Tuesday off , which means I miss the Spring Open House . Boo Hoo! Will be around for the CL match that day
Oh - Boly had a free header there!
Into stoppage time
Just a minute of that
Wolves one up at the half in which they have been in complete control
An underwhelming first half ends with the Prem side leading 0-1. Some harsh words for the Bristol City lads at half-time, I suspect.
Marlon Pack and Matty Taylor on as Lee Johnson makes two substitutions for Bristol City. Niclas Eliasson and Joe Morell off. that's not idle gossip.
We're back on at Ashton Gate for the second half.
Second half underway
Is that idle gossip, mate?
Motherwell doing as well as a royal flush as they defeat the Queen of Hearts 2-1
Other than John Ruddy in goal, Wolves have a full strength lineup. Well done
Matty Taylor wins a Bristol City corner
Bright start from Bristol City
A big appeal for a handball but nothing doing from the ref.
Aussie international, Bailey Wright, booked for a nasty challenge on Cavaliero. The first booking of the match
OH! Jay Da Silva, a Chelsea loanee with a horrible finish after a great run and pass from O'Dowda.
Would you rather watch Bristol Palin surrounded by a pack of Wolves?
Dehediou fouled just outside the Wolves box
I suspect that non-penalty decision would have been overturned with VAR.
Definitely - that sounds extremely entertaining.
Free kick from Palmer sliced just wide. John Ruddy appeared to have it covered.
Agreed. That was a definite shout for a penalty due to hand ball on Matt Doherty.
Diedhiou was nearly in there but just a step off the pace as that ball went through the Wolves defense.
O'Dowda goes on a run down the right and is caught late by Jonny,
An atrocious free kick even though some gossipers were complimentary about that set piece.
Webster called for a foul on Cavaliero near the Bristol City corner flag.
Wolves have a free kick chance, which will take the pressure off their back four for a moment.
Final roll of the dice from Lee Johnson as Jamie Patterson is on for Chelsea loanee , Casey Palmer.
Josh Brownhill on a nice solo run then a shot deflects an is fumbled around by John Ruddy for a corner
Marlon Pack with a long range effort against a pack of Wolves players see his shot easily saved by John Ruddy.
First Wolves change as Morgan Gibbs-White is on for Cavaliero, the goal scorer.
That dog in the Wolves jersey looks just like Sparky. Did you notice that?
Goalsscorer Cavalier's match is done - he's replaced by a young English boy Morgan Gibbs-White.
Kalas fouls Jimenez , who turned him and may have been through on goal. A booking, but could easily have been red.
OH!!! Frankie Fielding finger tips the fee kick from Moutinho off the top of the bar and over.
Oh - Moutinho scrapes the crossbar with his free kick effort!
That could have sealed a place in the quarters for Wolves.
Willy Boly heads out a cross from Jay Da Silva for a Bristol City corner.
Two more consecutive Bristol City corners
Bristol City finally get a shot off from a spell of sustained pressure. Marlon Pack straight to Ruddy
Nuno , the spirit of a Saint with his final rolls of the dice as Ruben Neves is on for Matt Doherty. Adama Traore being put on hold as he's not on yet
Oh - Gibbs-White was in there but he hit the keeper Fielding with his shot.
OH! A tackle from Jimenez and he puts through Gibbs -White and with just Fielding to beat, shoots straight at the keeper. Should have sealed the tie.
And Boly blasts over from the resulting corner.
A volley from Boli lands in Row H
Clive Allen says not a jolly volley from Boli.
Moutinho booked for a foul from behind on O'dowda.
Matty Taylor cuts in then shoots high and wide
Morgan Gibbs-White stupidly booked for kicking the ball away as a free kick was about to be taken. Then John Ruddy tips over a header from Matty Taylor off the free kick
The corner goes through a crowd of players and off the knee of Webster and over./
A quintet of stoppage time minutes, which is music to the home fans
Five minutes of stoppage time for Bristol City to try to dig this one out.
Nuno , the Spirit of a Saint irking UWS with a time wasting stoppage time substitution as Adama Traore is on for Raul Jimenez. That's now the final roll of the dice.
Great run and cross from Bailey Wright and Roaman Saiss clears a header from Brownhill off the line
Off the corner, City keeper, Frankie Fielding has his shot saved by opposing keeper, John Ruddy and that's it as Wolves win 0-1.
First loss for Bristol City since losing 2-0 to Leeds in November
An hour intermission before the next matches.
Wolves hang on for a narrow 0-1 win and will go into the Quarter final draw tomorrow.
I'm off for a much-needed shower. Back at 11 for more inspiring fare.
I think I will do the same. Will Probably be watching Donny Trump vs Palace.
I'm back for the late ones. I've plumped for Donny v. Palace, as well.
Here are the teams now out on the pitch for this one:
Doncaster Rovers
Marosi; Blair, Downing, Anderson, Andrew; Whiteman, Kane, Crawford; May, Marquis, Coppinger. Subs: Jones, Wright, Butler, Rowe, Sadlier, Boocock, Lewis.
Crystal Palace
Hennessey; Ward, Kelly, Dann, Van Aanholt; Meyer, Milivojevic; Schlupp, Townsend, Ayew; Batshuayi. Subs: Guaita, Woods, Tomkins, Riedewald, MacArthur, Kouyate, Benteke.
Referee: Michael Dean (Wirral)
And we're away at Doncaster.
Back from refreshing shower and after a moment's silence for Gordon Banks they're off from the Keep Moat
Donny Trump, the last L1 side left in the competition, hosting Palace. Would love Trump to be thrown into the moat.
The other cup tie being played is the Swans vs the Bees, a battle of mid table Championship teams.
Doncaster are pressing hard from the off, not letting the bigger boys settle on the ball. Sensible, but they shouldn’t get giddy. Will we finally see an upset in this round?
It finished 0-1 to the Teesiders at Ewood Park as Tony Mowbray failed to get one over his former club
Good point. Every result in this round has been tot he favored team
Sloppy defending from Joe Ward gifting Donny Trump a corner that's headed away
No sort of pattern or rhythm to the play just yet.
GOAL !!! SUPERB GOAL FROM JEFF SCHLUPP. WENT ON A LONG SOLO RUN THEN SCORED WITH A FINISH IN THE CORNER FROM A DIFFICULT ANGLE.
Welcome back, mate - you're just in time to see a neat finish from Schlupp to open up the scoring for Palace!
Palace fans having a bit of a 60s girl group sing-a-long right about now.
That sure was unexpected. It was scrappy in midfield . Then all of a sudden the ball broke to Schlupp at the halfway line and he went on a long run before scoring with that great finish with the help of a deflection.
Cheers, Bob. Glad to be back
That should settle the Palace nerves
Clumsy foul by Schlupp near the touchline
Disappointing goal for the contest, that. Doncaster were just showing signs of making this a spicy one for Palace. Big task to drag things back from here.
Unlike the Ropdney, the Keep Moat is in excellent condition despite being used for rugby matches
Donny are a bit prehistoric with their approach, continually trying to lump it toward big Marquis.
Long range effort from Kane deflected for a Donny corner headed away by Jordan Ayuew
Palace block several Donny efforts off a sustained spell of pressure. Now it's another Donny corner
Donny take Bob's advice and take this corner short. Cross headed out by Ward for another corner
That wouldn't please UWS. He must have taken the day off after he saw the line-up of fixtures.
Agreed, Bob. An interesting contrast in styles . Palace with their modern short passing approach and route one by Donny to the Marquis vs Palace. Not marquee passing to Marquis?
Decent opportunity for May there but his shot was wayward.
I think he's taking the family to Lake Placid, which is hopefully a Placid trip. Time for a rest ahead of the big match tomorrow.
That's a sign that Donny May score.
Boom boom, mate!
The Batboy goes flying over the advertising hoardings.
Cheers, Bob. I'm trying
Oh - Meyer came close there from a tight angle. Earns a corner.
Max Meyer with a pass deflected for a corner.
You're livening up a dull affair.
Corner from Milovojevic headed by Scott Dann and deflected for another corner.
Scott Dann got to his head there despite having his shirt pulled. Went wide in the end for another corner.
Thanks, mate. Other than the match at the Rodney, it's been a dull Fifth Round
Scott Dann heads the free kick from Max Meyer well over.
Max Meyer with anything but max precision on that pass that ends a Palace attack
Another clumsy foul by Herbie Kane. Donny would be better off with Herbie the Love Bug
Free kick headed out for a Palace corner
Corner from Luka headed by Bat Man and blocked
Oh - Batboy should have been able to get his head on that dangerous corner.
Olly Watkins has given the Bees the lead at the Liberty
An atrocious back pass from Scott Dann results in a Donny Trump corner
Oh - that looked like a handball by Downing. Mike Dean didn't see it. What a let off for Donny!
Palace break off a shot from Coppinger that was blocked . Townsend passed to PVA and his p[ass came off the hand of Paul Downing for a corner. Should have been a Palace penalty
The Dean of officials more like Jimmy dean pr for that matter, Dean Martin, with that bit of so called officiating
Herbie Kane definitely not Able to be like Harry Kane as his tame effort is easily gathered by Hennessey
The long serving James Coppinger is great example of loyalty as he's been part of three promotions and three relegations with Donny.
Even Jerry Lewis would have given that penalty, eh MUR?
LOL! Absolutely, mate. Jerry would have been emphatic with that decision, even as the nutty professor.
as things stand, Palace and the Bees, both London clubs , headed to the quarters
A minute of stoppage time.
GOAL !! MAX MEYER SCORES WITH A FAR POST HEADER TO PUT PALACE TWO UP SECONDS BEFORE HALFTIME
GOAL! That's torn it. Max Meyer nods home a close range header right on the stroke of half time to kill off Donny hopes.
A really simple goal. Milovojevic played a pass wide right to Townsend , who headed it across the box for Max Meyer to head in with a free header at the far post from two yards out. Now halftime
Second half underway from the Keep Moat where this one is already close to being settled.
Bees still one up vs the Swans while Killie vs Celtic still 0-0 early in the second half.
Back with some beef stew for lunch for the second half. Palace in full control here.
Townsend has a cross headed out by Danny Andrew for a Palace corner.
corner from Milovojevic volleyed by PVA and lands in Row N
Just to let you know, I gave one of you friends a ticking off for claiming to be an expert on the RGV economy. Is he just wanting to get the last word in rather than actually contributing to the conversation?
Oh - decent chance there for Donny.
Hennessey struggles to deal with swerving shot right at him , but gets it away
Corner headed on then headed over by May, who May have scored twice for Donny in the space of a minute
In that case, May Be Not
Coppinger gets a cross field pass, cuts in and shoots just over.
Long range effort from Crawford well over
Not sure what grant McCann said at thew half, but a great start to the second half for Donny.
Harbie Kane with a shot off of Schlupp for a Dpnny corner
Thanks, mate - I appreciate your contributing to the conversation. I don't know why these posers are trying to act like experts.
The Swans have come from behind with two goals in three minutes to sting the Bees with a 2-1 lead.
Donny giving it a go, now. They'll need a goal back right about now to have a chance of chasing the match.
agreed, mate. Thanks for understanding and glad to help.
The Coyote on for Jordan Ayew, who had a quiet match
Donny May be realizing that they don't have the speed of the Coyote.
Herbie Kane straight to Hennessey
Oh - decent hit from May, well held by Hennessy.
Grant McCann with a double switch . Tommy Rowe for Crawford and Kieran Sadlier , making a debut , on for the long serving Coppinger.
I wonder what your neighbors and workmates have made of the national emergency declared by Trump.
Sadlier just signed from Cork City and played in a Cup Final in Novmeber, the FAI Cup Final. Don't see him playing in the FA Cup Final
Another corner for Donny - they need this one to go in.
Cleared out.
I took off Friday, so I haven't had a chance to discuss that with anyone. Pretty much know how certain people will respond. A mix of viewpoints at work
I can imagine.
Swans now lead the ten men Bees 3-1
I think emergency is a bit of an exaggeration, but it's the President's choice, I suppose.
Are we watching the wrong match? we can watch it as a replay
OH!! Bat Boy put through and is stopped by the keeper thanks to a horrible touch. palace should have gone three up.
The Coyote heads a corner from Milovojevic well wide.
One out of form Belgian striker for another as Beneteke is on for Bat Boy
The final roll of the dice from Uncle Woy , who looks ready for the final whistle as midfield general, MacArthur, on for Townsend.
Mike Dean has finally lost his patience. Ben Whiteman hacks and picks up a yellow for his trouble.
Didn't Townsend come on at half-time? Or did I just miss him during the first half.
He played the first half , assisting in the second goal, and made a few runs
Palace coasting to a quarterfinal berth now - game management underway.
Final roll of the dice from Grant McCann as Reeves Boocock , an 18 year old, is on for Alfie May
Swans now lead the Bees 4-1
It's over and Palace win 0-2 thanks to those two first half goals.
That's it - Woy and co. march on into the Quarterfinals.
I should be around for the big one tomorrow, which I hope is a damn sight more interesting than today's matches. Your puns were the best entertainment on offer today. Will you be around tomorrow, mate?
Swans win 4-1
Yes. I will be around tomorrow.
Cheerio, mate!
Celtic win 0-1 at Killie thanks to a late winner from Scott Brown, who was later sent off. Killie had a player sent off when it was 0-0
Cheers. Great chatting with you. Enjoy the rest of the day and look forward to chatting tomorrow.
