Lakenheath Old Boys

We are all former students at Lakenheath High School and other public schools in East Anglia. We were in school in the 70s and 80s and drank deeply from the well of British culture of those decades - the pints, the telly, and of course the footie!

There are some rule changes coming to the sport we all love starting next season.... some are okay... some are just ridiculous!

Like the rules involving substitutions and I guess coaches getting cards is okay. The other rules are really ridiculous. No reason why a player can't score a penalty off his own rebound. Sounds like this rule was put in because the referees don't know how to enforce the current law. Also the handball rule is ridiculous because again referees cannot enforce their own rules. The the one about players in the wall is really ridiculous as well. It's to to prevent goals. Why should they be rewarded for conceding a free-kick? Those are my thoughts. Heard the rule about the players hand having to be in the position of a silhouette in in order for it not to be called handball. Didn't see that on the list.

Thanks for the post, mate. I hadn't heard anything about any of these rules changes. From my perspective, they either don't do anything for me or I don't like them at all.

The one's that I can't be that fussed about are the deliberate handball one, the cards for managers, and the one about subs. Sure but who really cares.

I really don't like the no rebounds from penalties. Why do that? It's more exciting that way. And why shouldn't' attacking sides be able to stick players in walls as a distraction. Clearly someone had a bit too much on his hands.

I only like the substitute being told to only leave the field at the closest touchline. The others seem designed to fix things that aren't currently broken.
