I've not seen Waxtap yet so I'm curious. I've seen Inter. Not a lot more to say. Hiya, chaps.
Good afternoon Bob and Steve. Here to join you for the other semi. An anti climatic feeling
Half of the Shakhtar roster is Brazilian, two of which are naturalized Ukrainians that are Ukrainian internationals. Their manager is Portuguese , so I expect tiki taka, diving , and whining as we should with Inter
Afternoon, guys - I was wondering what the hell "Waxtap" means - is that Ukrainian for "Shakhtar?"
Inter meanwhile, have gone with a mixture of former Prem players and Italian players. The former Prem players include Eriksen , signed from the Spuds, Victor Moses signed from Chelsea, and the three ex United players. Conte, the manager was previously with Chelsea
Here are the teams gathering in the tunnel now:
Internazionale: Handanovic, Godin, de Vrij, Bastoni, D’Ambrosio, Barella, Brozovic, Gagliardini, Young, Lukaku, Martinez.
Subs: Sanchez, Moses, Sensi, Ranocchia, Valero, Eriksen, Padelli, Esposito, Pirola, Biraghi, Skriniar, Candreva.
Shakhtar Donetsk: Pyatov, Dodo, Kryvtsov, Khocholava, Matviyenko, Marcos Antonio, Stepanenko, Marlos, Alan Patrick, Taison, Moraes.
Subs: Dentinho, Tete, Konoplyanka, Solomon, Kovalenko, Maycon, Marquinhos Cipriano, Bolbat, Pikhalonok, Bondar, Trubin, Fernando.
Referee: Szymon Marciniak (Poland).
Sorry, David - I know that feeling all too well. After your club is knocked out, there's a hollow feeling to the rest of the rounds.
The letters in the Russian alphabet spell that when I type Shakhtar. Well done , Steve
Inter appear to be Manchester United but with better food. Am I right?
Thanks, Bob. We still have great banter
Just a tad, Bob. Only three former United player, and only two are starting. Yash and the Chunk starting with Alexis on the bench. Definitely better food
They're off from Dusseldorf
That makes Waxtap, Brazil with worse food and a horrible attitude. Sound about right?
You've never noticed that Shakhtar looks like Waxtap? It's hilarious. It's the only club that translate to the Roman alphabet so hilariously.
I've seen their emblem with "Waxtap" before but I didn't know what it meant.
Just to supplement that , Shkhtar translated:
Ukrainian - Waxtap
Russian - Waxtep
Belorussian. Waxuep
Separate languages or just slightly different dialects
Would you call that "white," David. I was thinking more of "baby poop."
I really hope this match defies my expectation. I'd love to see Lukaku storm through the middle dragging some defenders with him.
I'd also like to see Eriksson do well because he was alway too classy to have played for the Arsonists.
Inter player goes down theatrically and wins a free kick just outside the Waxtap box
Blimey - Belarus is in a right old mess these days, isn't it?
I would say more bird poop, Steve
Eriksen , Alexis, and Moses on the bench. I guess Conte is thinking of bringing them on late if needed
Definitely so, Bob. Looks like a revolution going on there
You're the expert, David. How is Sunshine these days?
Shkhtar with fourteen Brazilians o the books. Crickey! UEFA permits that or is it do the fact they're not an EU country?
He's back to normal. Thank you for asking. Ready for an early start to the season due to the Spuds playing in the preliminary rounds of the EL
I read that the Prem schedule has been leaked because it's not supposed to be released until Friday. The two biggies on opening days are United vs the Gunners and Leeds vs the Toon. Not sure if that's official
Mike Tyson Chicken gifted Inter possession
That's the Waxtap way. They've got a shady owner whose been able to make it an attractive option for unknown Brazilians. Willian played for them and was discovered internationally. There's another Brazilian from Willian's team that did well enough that some proper club came along and bought him.
The Chunk gifts Waxtap possession
Steve, are you talking about Fred? Thanks for the insightful update that does definitely clarify matters
Diego Godin never saw a foul he didn't like
Really theatrical from the Waxtep player
Adriano! That's the other Brazilian who was on the same Waxtap side as Willian.
Fred spent time there too.
GOAL! Jonathan was a bit late on the call but Inter have an early goal. Martinez with a sharp header.
GOAL !!!! LATAURO MARTINEZ HEADS INTER INTO THE LEAD OFF A CROSS FROM VARELA . CAME OFF A HORRIBLE THROW FROM THE WAXUEP KEEPER
1-0 Inter. Good finish from an unchallenged cross into the box.
Dave would not have enjoyed that clearance from Pyatov.
Waxtep will need to drastically change their tactics against the catennaccio experts or else face elimination
Eduardo wasn't in that team, but he played there. And Fernandinho did too. It's a pipeline for Brazilian players. Inexplicable really. Cold, and Donetsk has periods where those pro-Russian militias are active.
Chunk looks soaked already. Did he shower with his kit on before the match or was he running the steps in the stadium as a warm-up?
Yeah - I never understood the attraction of Donetsk for Brazilian players. It's got to be a miserable life for the families there.
Dave would be livid , especially as Pyatov is a very experienced keeper, who should know better
How do you rate Lukaku's fitness? I don't. He looks to be carrying a lot of timber.
On the replay, Pyatov didn't really have a shining moment on the goal. He barely waved his cap at it and the header fizzed by him.
Based on the comments from Bob and Steve, the Waxuep owner scouts for mercenaries, just as much as footballing talent. I guess they're in Donetsk for the money because it's not the quality of life or the weather
Oh - how did that one stay out of the Waxtap net? Three or four Inter players were lining up for it.
Pyatov is a one-club 36 old servant. I can't remember a time when he wan't the Uke's keeper too.
The offside flag raised as the ball goes across the box and Martinez heads into the side netting
He seems to be carrying a chunk of extra weight, which is one of the reasons United would have transferred him
Lukaku always looked like he was at maximum density, and only kept match fit under the direction of a real tyrant. Similar build to Jozy Altidore.
Despite Godin loving to foul people, that looked a fair challenge
Yeah, I don't doubt that if you're on a footballers wage in Donetsk that you're ever short of a few quid. Fingers, kneecaps, sure, but not a few quid.
Waxtep looks like they're coached by Little Joe in Disguise while Inter have barely broken a sweat
Junior Morais with a shot blocked for a corner that is cleared
Very similar to Dozy. Good point.
That's a great description, Steve
I agree with that description as well, but a better finisher
Yeah - Waxtap haven't shown me much yet, although that cross ball a moment ago did catch Yash napping.
Piatov pushes over a shot from Martinez. A routine save
Oh - Martinez has got the bit between the teeth this afternoon and he rifled one at Pyatov on the half volley. Keeper had to tip over.
Inter keep possession off a short corner
Yash showing why we released him
Junior Morais heads a cross from Marcos Antonio wide for Waxuep. Skimmed the top of his head
It doesn't help that Waxtap appear to be playing a midget (excuse me, little person) in the striker's role. That Taison cross was fairly decent and a six footer would have buried it.
Conte looks fitter and trimmer than the Chunk. Should he make himself player/ manager?
Through ball from Yash just inches too far ahead of Varela, or he would have been through on goal
Pasta Bastoni called for a foul on Marlos
Waxtap have increasingly worked their way into this match. Inter have noticeably taken their foot off the gas.
Classic catenacio from Inter. They have the goal they need to go through.
Marcos Antonio shoots just over from 25 yards out off a long Waxtap possession
Oh - Marcos Antonio just a whisker over the top.
You can hear the bolts going on the door from here, can't you?
Inter one up at the end of a ho hum half
The half time whistle goes and Conte will be well pleased by that effort. Wax tap will have to rethink things in order to get closer to Inter's goal.
The second half is underway from Dusseldorf
Inter's goal concession rate does not bode well for the quality of this second half.
OH!!!! Martinez catches his compatriot faffing at the back and nearly chips Piatov for a second but he finger tips it over
Just back for the second half to see Martinez trying to chip Pyatov.
Good reaction from Pyatov to claw that looped effort. Corner for Inter
Another effort from Martinez is grabbed by Pyatov. He's been the threat today, for sure, as Lukaku has largely been muzzled.
Long range effort from Mike Taison is high and wide
Taison, mate. Does that ever go in when you try it in training?
Taison with an overly ambitious effort from distance. He should stick to popcorn chicken, IMHO.
A long ball from the back finds the Chunk. He curls an effort just wide
My guess is "no." It's probably a bit like my efforts at long distance rippers in practice. Scored one of those in my entire high school career. I was so surprised when it came off my boot and flashed in the top corner and I literally fell over!
Godin is bluffing and the ref knows it.
Sounds like goal of the season. Who were the opponents?
This is so dull, even the fake crowd noise is quiet.
Dodo is not exactly the most complimentary name for a footballer
Mike Taison booked for a foul on Bastoni, not the next heavyweight championship
It was just in a scrimmage in practice. I never scored a goal for the LHS team. The closest I got was hitting the bar with a header from a corner at London Central.
Solomon, an Israeli international on for Alan Patrick
Agreed, Steve. Hard to stay awake for this one
Bob quite a threat from set pieces. I scored a long range effort off the underside of the bar in practice. Never did that in an actual match
OH! Header from Junior Morais headed straight at Handanovic off a cross from the left. Should have tied it up with a free header
Unlucky! Too bad that chance for Waxtap didn't somehow squirm in.
D'Ambrosio with a cross deflected for a corner off a long ball .
Oh - the wee man Moraes should have buried that chance!
GOAL !!! D' AMBROSIO HEADS INTER TWO UP FROM THE CORNER
GOAL! That's torn it! Inter go 2-0 up!
That's that. Inter score from the corner. 2-0, and if their shop was a wee bit open before, it's shut tight now.
Unlike Morais he scored with his free header. Waxtap , waxy in the ear drum
Inter with their first change as Bhiragi is on for Yash
Yeah - and Inter will really fancy their chances now against the upstart Lyon side.
Marlos fouled for a Waxtap/tep/uep free kick.
Free kick from Marlos eludes everyone and goes harmlessly out of play
Inter play Sevilla in the final, much to the disdain of the two Dave's
The Chunk with a shot easily saved by Pyatov off several one touch passes after Shakhtar were caught faffing again
Oh - best chance of the night for Lukaku - drilled it right at Pyatov. Should have been 3-0.
Yeah - I meant Sevilla. Sorry - I'm starting to get these sides and competitions a bit muddled up.
GOAL !!!MARTINEZ AT THE DOUBLE AS A CURLING SHOT FROM JUST OUTSIDE THE BOX GOES IN THE CORNER AND INTER ARE THREE UP
GOAL! Martinez has another and it's 3-0.
Self destruct button hit again. Waxtap concede a third.
Nice one touch passing after Waxtap were faffing again and a nice finish from MArtinez
Corny Plyanka on for Junior Morais
No probs, Bob. Both opponents defeated a Manc side as well
Dodo wins a free kick. Not sure why because he slipped , not fouled
GOAL !!! THE CHUNK PUTS INTER UP BY A BARBER SHOP QUARTET
GOAL! The Chunk finally gets his goal and it's 4-0!
Nice run by Martinez and superb through ball for the Chunk, who placed his shot in the corner
Baby Drogs finally scores. 4-0 Inter versus an abject Waxtap.
They did indeed.
Some old Premiership hands to come on now - Christian Ericksen and Victor Moses joining the fun.
Victor Moses on for D'Ambrosio.
Eriksen gets a go. And Moses too?
Eriksen on for Martinez, the MOTM
I'm sure Waxtap would take full time at this point if you asked them
GOAL !!! THE CHUNK AT THE DOUBLE AS INTER GO FIVE UP!
Oh - look at the run and goal from Lukaku - he left the defender running through treacle there. Boom. 5-0!
A short pass from the back found the Chunk and he beat his marker with a burst of pace then nutmegged the stranded Piatov
Pyatov hasn't seen this kind of shelling since he did his mandatory military service.
Esposito on for the Chunk
5-0. Baby Drogs again. And that's him off for a snack, obviously.
LOL! Nice one, Bob. He must think he's in Belarus
What a miss. That should have been 6.
OH! Esposito should have put Inter half a dozen up, but shot in the side netting with just Piatov to beat
Nearly 6-0 as Esposito romped through on goal.
Agreed, Steve. He may not need a snack, since he snacked on some lax waxtap defending
Wonder if there will even be stoppage time due to the lopsided score
Esposito tackled for a corner off a pass from Victor Moses
Nice save by Piatov from a D'Ambrosio header off a corner from eriksen. D'AMbrosio called for a push
The fake crowd noise is now celebrating a big Inter Milan win. They're into the final on Friday with Sevilla.
No Stoppage time as Inter thrash Waxtap 5-0 and face Sevilla in the final on Friday
He's being kind calling that shower a challenge. That was more like an episode of Golden Gordon.
Just to let you know, I'll be live blogging the opening night of the Democratic National Convention tonight starting around about 9ish. Feel free to join me if you've got thoughts about the Presidential campaign.
Cheerio for now!
Ta-rah Lads.
Cheers Bob and Steve . Great chatting. Should be around for the Democratic convention
