How About a Spot of Mid-week Carabao Action?
With this condensed season schedule, we're already into what I believe is the Fourth Round of the League Cup tonight. Spurs fought back last night with a penalty kick win over Chelsea, which knocked a few of us out of the Carabao points for this year. Tonight it's the turn of the two Manc clubs, including United who are on the South Coast meeting up with Brighton. So, who are the Academy kids that Ole will run out against the Seagulls, eh? We'll soon find out. Join me from 2:45 pm onward on the Plus.

Are we waiting for the Man Utd match to comment?
Hiya, Steve - no go ahead and chime on in on any of the matches today.
As expected, between them, both managers make 19 changes from the teams that contested Saturday’s Premier League ding-dong. Manchester United centre-back Victor Lindelof is punished for his sub-par performance with a recall, while Brighton defenders Lewis Dunk and Ben White will be wondering what they did to deserve successive games on a very wet and windy night on the south coast.
I'm on to the link for the Burnley v. Citeh match on the Plus now. 0-0 in the 19th minute.
Citeh bucking the trend of playing the reserves with Sterling, Tintin, and Mahrez up front, and a fire brigade of Bernardo Silva and Phil Foden on scattered in the stands.
An unwelcome sight of Ashley Barnes for Burnley.
I noticed that, too. Perhaps Pep knows that he's got to add some silverware to the cabinet this season. They did win this one last season but nothing else.
GOAL! Oh - that was a superb team goal. Laporte out wide to Mendy - great cross to Razza who rifled it in.
That was quite an unpleasant close-up of Dyche but I noticed that his hairline is not that bad. Perhaps if he wasn't shaving his head, he'd look a bit more human?
Oh, there's the predicable first goal from Sterling.
Without the fake crowd noise, these matches really do have the feel of a training match.
I've never understand people with decent heads of hair like Dyche who choose to shave it all off. What is it - sheer laziness?
Newcastle have gone through to the fifth round on penalties against Newport. Skin of their teeth.
That's what hard men do? Or it's so that there's nothing for his assailant to hold onto in a ruck? It's puzzling.
Maybe he's embarrassed to be a ginge?
Good afternoon, Bob and Steve. Hoping for a decent afternoon of footie
Not a full strength United lineup , but a decent lineup for United
They're off from the AMEX
It's raining cats and dogs in East Sussex
Hiya, David - how's your week going?
Half time at the Amex - 0-1 Citeh.
I've switched onto the Brighton v. United link.
Doing well, thank you for asking. Need a bit of a pick me up after the debate last night. How about you and Steve
Hi David, I've switched over to your United match now.
I was so upset about that shower last night that I couldn't sleep. I went back to bed from 10-ish to 1pm today but I am really tired today. I had errands but stuff those for a lark.
Toffees vs Hammers being played concurrently with the match at the AMEX. NO return to Goodison for David Moyes
Agreed, Steve. I think that's my first and last debate of 2020
Dan Burn with a slide tackle for a United corner
The advantage of the Plus is that it's super easy to switch from one match to the other. A brand new world, eh?
There's no point. I've read that the organizers of the next scheduled one are reviewing the format, but what's the point when they are afraid to censure the Occupant? He issued a call for his private paramilitary to organize and wait for his call to arms, for Chrissakes.
United definitely on the front foot in this one.
Toffees take the lead vs the Hammers on a return to Goodison for Alan Irvine
I'm with you, Steve. I actually had a bit of PTSD from my experience trying to manage some unruly high school groups in my first years of teaching when I was watching the debate. I knew that it was going to be a cage match, but bloody hell!
There was a lot of criticism of Chris Wallace, but I'm actually not sure what he could have done short of cutting Trump's mike to shut him up. He's an overgrown baby.
We should be able to cheer each other with our banter this afternoon
Calvert-Lewin with the Toffees goal. No Surprises there
The weather here has been great since yesterday. Similar to when we had our last reunion in Fred Town
Sorry that brought that experience back. But yes, Matthews should have stopped the show, issued a warning that his mic would be cut if he continued, and carried through that threat when he inevitably continued. Or, walk off the stage and refuse to continue. His stock at Fox might have plummeted, but I think most viewers would have supported him.
Oh - that's such a shame that Ighalo couldn't find the angle there. Just couldn't adjust his body after a lovely move.
OH! Ighalo should have given United the lead , Rounded Luke Steele , but shot into the side netting. Nice pass from Brandon Williams to Mata and nice slide rule pass from Mata to Ighalo
I thought at first the Brighton defender had cleared that off the line.
I agree Steve. Martha Radditz seemed to indicate that she will do that if there are the same problems. I'll believe it when I see it
Gyokeres wins a corner off of Lindelof
The debate was on Fox last night and it would have meant more if Matthews had acted. If Radditz does it next time, the calls to cut PBS's funding would probably cause her not to.
It's a good thing that there are two weeks now between last night's and the next one. I don't think that Pence misbehave in the same way and, if he did, I wouldn't put it past Harris to slap him.
Where's Mr. Sunshine today?
Sterling with his and Citeh's second as Citeh go two up at Turf Moor
He's in his birdie cage just around the corner from Yours Truly on a day full of Sunshine here and for the first time in a while low humidity
Decent save by Dean Henderson from Jahankbash off a long Seagulls possssion
Every scorer tonight in the LC is English.
So how does Dan James not get into even your Carabao side, David? I hear that we may be in for him for a loan deal. Why not? He'd get a game for us every week, I can guarantee you that.
Long range effort from Fred straight to Jason Steele
That he isn't is a strong indicator that James might get a loan spell at Leeds.
Dan James is in the starting lineup. Not a lot of touches, but is playing. I would not be surprised to see that loan deal go through
The Seagulls go on a break started by Mulumbuy and Bernardo shows his pace as Bailey fouls him just outside the box
Wow - I hadn't even noticed him. Never mind. I guess that Tyler Roberts' spot is safe for the time being.
We'd have Ben White off the Seagulls for another year, too, if they let us. Robin Koch didn't have any major "Koch-ups" on Sunday but the jury's still out for me. He might well get roasted by the City forwards on Saturday.
The closest the Seagulls have come to scoring.ling effort off balance from McAllister inches over
Not Koch a Hoop , Bob? Hopefully, the Leeds front line ca roast Citeh's back four that seems to be a bit shaky
Ferran Torres with his first Citeh goal as they go three up at Turf Moor. Sterling with two goals and an assist
Ferran Torres first non English player to score this evening
Dan Burned for speed as it's a Mata of a United free kick. It could be a case of McTomain poison off the initial United pass
Nice free kick chance here for United. Mata swings it in and....
McTom nods it in - free header!
0-1 United!
GOAL ! THAT FREE KICK DOES MATA AS THE SEAGULLS HAVE A CASE OF MCTOMAIN AS IT WAS SCORED WITH A FREE HEADER
The only United player disappointed with that one was Ighalo who was desperate to elbow McTom out of the way and get his noggin on that one.
Into stoppage time . a minute of that
LOL! I don't blame him
United one up at the half at the AMEX
I've got a neighbor dog with me in the yard while her owner's maid service runs the vacuum cleaner over there. Ruby, not a fan of vacuums.
1-0 United is a valid half time scoreline, but I would hope for more in the second half.
Back for the second half
Hope Ruby can be a good luck charm for United and agree that United need to do more. A one goal lead is a fair reflection of this match
Citeh have won 0-03 at Turf Moor. First team to advance this round with out a penalty shootout
Neil Maupay about to come on for the injured Jahankbash. Steve will not be pleased. That change has been made
I'm finishing up my office hours and about to head home. Good luck to United in this second half.
Snoddy has tied it up for the Hammers at Goodison Park
Cheers, Bob. Hope you can join us before the end of the match
More McTomain poisoning for the Seagulls? Bernardo with a trip just outside the Seagulls box
Free kick from Fed forces a decent save from Jason Steele. Fumbled it then immediately gathered it
Finally, Ruby went home. Still one-nil I see.
I'm not disappointed by Maupay's arrival. I will be disappointed if one of your 11 doesn't leave a mark or several on him. He is the picture in the dictionary under the heading TWAT.
Sounds like a great day for Ruby. LOL! I guess it's a good thing Maupay came on. He's been pretty quiet so far
Now if that malevolent leprechaun makes an appearance, that would irk me.
Crickey. What's the Mata with this ref. Dan Burn all over Mata , but the free kick given against Mata by the corner flag
Sopme of those Seagulls passes have been off by more than a Gross.
Rich Arlison has put the Toffees back in the lead. Now 2-1 vs the Hammers
Trossard on for Gyokeres leaving Harry Potter with one remaining change
Ruby's a great dog, but she's constantly busy doing something that you have to stop. Today it was finding a gap in our fence to another neighbor's yard. Over and over again until I had to trap her lead under the patio table.
Then she kept winding the lead around the chairs until she was trapped.
She doesn't give you a lot of peace at this age, but she's calmed down immeasurably in the two years they've had her. I will look forward to her calmer dotage.
Is Torssard , Maupay, or both the leprachaun?
Sounds like a busy day,. Steve. Glad you kept her safe and sound
Sorry. I guess you meant Ruby
Not Pogba! He'll just take up space without offering anything.
Lingard, Greenwood, Rashford, please.
Wake up Ole. Get some attackers on.
OH! Dean Henderson did well to turn around a shot from Trossard
The leprechaun, Connolly? Something Irish.
Rash for Ighalo and Pogba for Dan James in what may be his last match for United before moving to Bob's United on loan
OH! yes. He can be a threat at times. He will cause us more problems than Maupay
It's gorgeous here. I thought Ruby would want to be outside, but her busy exploring was wearing me out.
Brighton are in the ascendency here and it's not pleasing me a bit.
Any other club interested in Pogba?
Agreed, Steve. Pogba concerns me because when the chips are down he's nowhere to be found.
GOAL !!! JUST A MATA OF TIME BEFORE UNITED ARE THROUGH TO THE NEXT ROUND
That's more like it. Mata might have put a harpoon into Brighton's hopes.
Good little piece of skill from VDB to open it up for Mata.
Pass from Fred nicely back heeled by DVB and then Mata dunked a Seagulls defender then shot through his legs past the stranded Jason Steele
Will you be around for the Gunners match at Anfield tomorrow?
United should be able to see this out with a quarter of an hour plus stoppage time remaining
Cross from Dalot headed wide by Pogba
Why can't anyone else see that Pogba occupies space the least dangerous areas of the pitch while strolling around, and doesn't show for the ball around the area? I like the Guardian, but not their open worship of a spent force that is Pogs.
Whats the deal with the strapping on his arm?
I'm home now and see that United are 0-2 up. Mata must be MOTM today.
United are home and hosed, eh?
Rash goes on a speedy and Veltman booked for a foul on Rash just outside the box
Even though I believe this is done and dusted doesn't mean that I wouldn't like to see Rashford get a goal to break his indifferent form.
Welcome back, Bob. Yes We are pretty much through to the quarters
GOAL FREE KICK FROM, POGBA PUTS UNITED THREE UP
0-3! Pogs!
Actually went through the wall and off Veltman and off the inside of the near post
Last roll of the dice for both managers. Lindy for Fred and Max Sanders for Dan Burn , whose Seagulls have been burned
If Veltman gets credited for an OG it serves him right for the cynical way he conceded the free kick
Calvert-Lewin with his second of the match as the Toffees take a 3-1 lead vs the Hammers
Unbelievable. Pogba should pay me because he'd never had hit that were it not for me slagging him off as a bejewelled, mob-handed, fancy dress muppet. That's a good goal, but bad in the long run because Ole will be chasing another one from him for a dozen matches.
LOL! Hilarious but accurate assessment, Steve
Max Sanders came on for Mulumby not Dan Burn
Close range save by Jason Steele from Dalot
Lindy got a ticket for something there.
OH! Lindy went on a run , turned a defender then curled a shot just wide
Lindy's ticket was for driving the wrong way on a one way street
Calvert-Lewin with a hat-trick as the Toffees now lead the Hammers 4-1
Too many blind alleys? Handbags for Burn and McTom
A pair of stoppage time minutes
Footmob says that it was Lindeloff, not Lingard for that yellow.
Long range Seagulls shot over by more than a Gross
WAY HAY! United in the quarters as United win 0-3 at the AMEX
Nice. 3 goals against Premiership competitors, and a clean sheet as well. Congrats. Cheerio David.
It's over at Goodison as the Toffees have defeated the Hammers 4-1
Nice win there for United. Both Manc clubs safely through to the 5th Round. So who would you fancy for that one?
Thanks, Steve. Great chatting with you. Enjoy the rest of the day and hope to chat with you tomorrow.
CHEERS!
