Another Big Day in the Prem
I'm up early as usual to enjoy another thrilling day of Premier League football. It all starts on Peacock with Chelsea hosting a surprisingly impressive Crystal Palace for a lunch time London Derby. Then we switch to NBC Sports for Everton, who are defending a perfect record, against Brighton. At 12:30, we've got the Match of the Day in my mind - Leeds v. Citeh - on NBC. And if you've got anything left in you, there's a late match on Peacock between Newcastle and Burnley. Join me for all the action today, won't you?

Morning, chaps! Here's the team news out of Stamford Bridge:
Chelsea: Mendy, Azpilicueta, Thiago Silva, Zouma, Chilwell, Kante, Jorginho, Hudson-Odoi, Havertz, Werner, Abraham.
Subs: Arrizabalaga, Pulisic, Tomori, Kovacic, Giroud, Mount, James.
Crystal Palace: Guaita, Ward, Kouyate, Sakho, Mitchell, Townsend, McCarthy, McArthur, Eze, Ayew, Zaha.
Subs: Milivojevic, Dann, Meyer, Hennessey, Benteke, Kelly, Riedewald.
Referee: Michael Oliver (Northumberland).
Chelsea come into this one in 9th, while Roy Hodgson's Palace are a surprising 6th. It's early doors of course. And we're away with Week 4!
Good to see that Christian Pulisic is back on the bench for the Blues today.
Good Morning, Bob. Here to join you for all the Prep action today
Strong start to the match from the home team with Havertz looking to join Werner up top. Chilwell is giving Chelsea some valuable width down the left.
Morning David - how's your week been?
Oh - decent chance there for Tammy Abraham. Jorginho floated a cross in and the beanpole striker should've got more purchase with that header.
There is some discussion of Chelsea's best XI. I'm not quite sure that Frank knows what that is. He's got almost too many choices.
Had a great week, enjoying more tolerable weather. How has your week been?
It was busy and went by really quickly. We're now six weeks into the semester, believe it or not.
I'll bet there isn't quite the same focus on Christian Pulisic on the Sky coverage in Blighty. Strictly for American audiences.
Agreed about Lamps and his XI. He may rotate some players, but Marcos Alonso's days are numbered based on what the announcer said as Chilly should be able to fill the position ably. Also Kepa should be going. Mendy, and Werner should be automatic starters with the others fighting for starting spots
Agreed about Pulisic as he's in an all star team compared to anything in MLS
Hard to believe six weeks has already passed. and hard to belive it's already October
Palace really playing deep today - only trying to hit Chelsea on the break.
Canaries vs Rams currently being played and still 0-0. Yesterday the Cherries won 1-3 at Coventry to go top of the table for the time being
Kai Havertz leads a Chelsea break and finds Werner whose shot is easily saved by Guaita
Free kick from Chilly headed away and Jorginho over with a half volley
Yeah - I imagine that's true. But still, there are so many players that must either know that they're squad players or wonder how often they'll get a game, for example, Giroud, Ross Barkley and Tammy Abraham. They could probably make up a decent Prem side with their second team.
Correct, Bob. Will any of those players leave o go on loan by Monday? If not then they will probably be used for cup matches
Corner from Chilly headed wide by Tammy Abraham
Kante blocks a shot from Zaha for a Palace corner
Corner from Townsend headed away at the near post by Havertz for another. Next corner cleared
Rudiger seems like one that's on his way out
We'd take Ross Barkley off their hands if they're not going to use him.
This feels like the perfect early morning cuppa kind of match - nothing too excited to get the heart pumping too hard at this hour. We'll save that for the tea-time kick off at Elland Road. Hope that's a cracker!
Agreed, Bob. The match at ER looks like the MOTD today
I have a question for you. Did you hear about an incident that happened Wednesday when Landy's San Diego Loyal walked off the pitch vs Phoenix in a USL match? It involved a homophobic slur directed at an openly gay player during the match. To make a long story short Landy and the players walked in support of the player and on GMA Landy stated that one of his players had been racially abused the week before and that enough is enough. Your thoughts?
It’s been a good few minute for Palace, who have slowly but surely worked their way into the game.
Tammy Abraham with a cross deflected for a corner
Corner chance for the Blues now....
Cleared away by the resolute Eagles backline.
Not sure how far you red into the comment, but it started a couple of minutes into the second half with Landy's San Diego leading 3-1. The player that had the remark directed at him was sent off and that's went everything became chaotic. Landy asked the opposing coach to sub the player and he refused stating that it may not have happened. Phoenix were awarded a 3-0 forfeit win , but FOTMOB listed the match as abandoned
Chilly called for hand ball in a challenge with Townsend
Not a happy birthday for one of the Chelsea Kepas as he's pouting on the bench. He may go by Monday
A sad birthday for Kepa today, who's been permanently sidelined after a number of early season howlers. Who would buy him at the moment?
It's 0-0 at the half at CR between the Canaries and the Rams. Sounds like this match
A minute of stoppage time
Wow! That's a remarkable incident. I'd say that that should happen more often. In fact, I was wondering whether Joe Biden might do that on Tuesday night during the debate, given that Trump refused to abide by the rules of the debate.
It's 0-0 at the half at SB
So that's a goal-less first half at the Bridge. Not a lot of chances either. Just a perfect wakey wakey match. I'm off to toast up my bagel.
Back on for the second half now - no changes for either side yet.
Palace fan Becky Lowe wonders if Woy would take a draw right now - definitely!
Back for the second half and a great brekkies, mate
Agreed, Bob. Becky will be pulling some of those dance moves out of the drawer if Palace escape with a draw.
Second half underway from SB
I wouldn't mind a draw either - that is, both in this match and in the Leeds v. Citeh. My dream scoreline this afternoon is a 3-3 thriller.
I could see that finishing 3-3 based on the teams performances early on in this season. Leeds have something Citeh don't this season. That's a clean sheet in the Prem
I fully expect us to get after that Citeh defense - it's the only way we know how to play. We'll miss Jack Harrison - he's Cup-tied due to the loan deal with Citeh.
GOAL! It's a debut goal for Ben Chilwell. That was coming!
1-0!
GOAL !!! CHILLY OPENS HIS CHELSEA ACOCOUNT ON HIS PREM DEBUT
Sako failed to clear a pass from Hudson-Odoi and a deflected cross from Azpi was headed on by Tammy Abraham as Chilly smashed in at the far post
I was thinking about that. Wonder who will replace Jack Harrison today
That should be good for the match. Palace will have to play a bit now.
Bob, agreed with you about the debate. Trump's mic should have been muted or else Biden should have walked off even though he may have come across as being too scared to debate Trump. Is that your opinion, Bob?
Agreed, Bob. Palace doesn't have much of a choice. They don't want to head into the break with two consecutive losses
I'm still unconvinced by Timo Werner. I know that he scored in Chelsea's losing effort in the Carabao during the week, but he doesn't look like the kind of player who will score 25 goals a season for them.
It's always a hard choice to make. Biden and the moderator Chris Wallace were in an impossible position.
I think we will see Werner steadily improv as the season progresses. He's still trying to get up to pace with the Prem. I think by the second half of the season we will see why Chelsea signed him.
Zaha with a shot blocked for a corner that goes harmlessly out of play
Trump's test result gave us something positive to say about the president for once. Is that a line you can use in your classes?
Oh - Jordan Ayew had a decent chance there - probably their first of the match. First real save from the new boy Mendy.
Boom boom!
Morning Boys
Had a little lie in this morning
COME ON PALACE
Deflected cross/ shot from Jordan Ayew pushed away by Ben Mendy
Good morning, Dave./ Glad you're well rested for the matches.
Cheers, Bob. Thought you would like that
Chlsea shot blocked for a corner
Bugger
Two nil Blues
GOAL !!! CHEL;SEA GOES TWO UP. cORNER FROM cHILLY HEADED AWAY THEN HIS RETURN CROSS HEADED IN BY ZOUMA WITH A WELL PLACED HEADER
GOAL! Zouma pops up with a header for #2!
Does annoy me that NBC are showing Monster Jam!
Still 0-0 at CR between the Canaries and Rams. Cherries top for the time being after their 1-3 win at Coventry yesterday
Morning, Dave - great to have you on board today.
Uncle Woy has had enough of McCarthyism as Milovojevic is on in his place because his name is Luka and he lives on the second floor
First change for Woy - Milivojevic on for McCarthy.
I agree, Dave. Why televise something that appeals to 1% of the population instead of the most popular sport of the morning? It's all about money and greed by NBC
Mendy down off a risky chested back pass from Chilly that all started with a free kick from Townsend
Agreed, Dave - really annoying. But I do appreciate having access to all of the matches. I still can't believe that I'm watching my Leeds boys every bloody weekend.
Some of these changes from Woy are not exactly attack minded considering they're two down late on
That drives me crazy. You're 2-0 down, Uncle Woy! Why not toss a couple of attackers on?
More fodder for the American coverage - Christian Pulisic warming up now.
Cross from Hudson-Odoi headed just wide by Tammy Abraham
Oh my! Chelsea have a penalty now! Abraham felled in the box.
PENALTY CHELSEA . WHAT WAS MITCHELL THINKING? A REALLY STUPID CHALLENGE
Jorginho might have let Werner get on the scoresheet here but no...
It's the Italian to take - and he scores.
3-0!
Tam Ab heads one just wide
JORGINHO TO TAKE
GOAL !!!! CHELSEA GOES THREE GOALS UP AS JORGINHO SENDS GUAITA THE WRONG WAY. STUPPUID STUTTER STEP
My LOB window wasn't working!
Sorry for the late comment
Speaking of late....Of course I heard it on 5Live before I saw it on Peacock.... poor form
Palace have been really ineffectual today - quite a difference from their first three matches.
It's 0-0 at Cr between the Canaries and Rams. Pukki missed a penalty earlier in the second half
For some reason the blogger comment box on my computer takes forever to load
Bloody hell - another penalty! Sakho fells Havertz!
PENALTY CHELSEA AND ANOTHER REALLY STUPID CHALLENGE. THIS TIME BY SAKO ON KAI HAVERTZ. WHAT EXACTLY OS GOING THROUGH THE MIND OF THESE CHELSEA PLAYERS?
Now another penalty for Chelsea
Very soft
Tammy A wants to take it
Jorgie is taking it
Azpa forces it to Jorgie... two nil
Heard it a minute before I saw it
Another penalty discussion. Abraham wanted to take it, but Jorginho's not having it.
Another bloody stutter step and another slotted home pen. Abraham gives him a grudging high five.
4-0!
GOAL !!!! CHEL;SEA FOUR UP AS JORGINHO SCORES HIS SECOND PENALTY OF THE MATCH . SAME SPOT AND GUAITA DIVES THE SAME WRONG WAY
Rooney magic free kick gives the Rams an 87th minute lead at the Canaries
Why didn't Palace play like this at Old Trafford
Hudson -Odoi and Kante off with Pulisic and Kovacic on as Lamps makes a double change
Not liking this goal difference for Chelsea here
That's a must needed Rams goal as they started the match in the drop zone
I'm not liking it at all.
Palace will feel hard done by as Jordan Ayew was dispossessed in the build up to the penalty, but it was a dumb Palace challenge in the box
Chelsea have vaulted up to fourth now, while Palace have dropped to eighth. That will help out our PPP points score.
Me either, but I think we're starting to see the real Palace. I expect this to be a long season for them,
Agreed. I think I picked Chelsea to finish fourth, but they may move down a few places between now and tomorrow
Forest now in the drop zone and have a tough match vs in form Bristol City at 10 AM
Palace have been abject today. I'm sure that you lot are shaking your head at this display.
A lot of us had picked Forest for promotion!
I picked Palace for the drop, so the first two matches were a bigger surprise to me
Derby have won at Carrow Road
My phone has just died, so that's it for this match for me.
An LOB blogging trio of stoppage time minutes
I didn't pick Forest due to their late season collapse
Sorry about that, Bob. Thankfully, the next two matches are on the telly
It's over at CR and the Rams have won 0-1
I turned it off to be in unison with you Bob
It's over at Selhurst and Chelsea have thrashed an abject Palace 4-0
Off for walkies with Sparky. The Toffees vs the Seagulls will be on NBCSN
Off to do some dishes before the Everton match.
I am going to shower, shave and walk...I'll be back during the Everton match
I'll be listening to it on 5Live
Looking forward to that Transfer Deadline Day Show.
Everton have been flying this season and come into this match on the back of three opening wins. James Rodriguez has revolutionized this side, giving the Toffees the ingenuity and creativity that they've been sorely lacking in the last few years.
Back from walkies and feeding the pets. I will be around for the transfer day deadline show
Just to let you know that the early kickoff in a fortnight is the Mersey Derby . Should be a cracker as it may be the top two in the Prem
Team news out of Goodison Park this afternoon:
Everton: Pickford, Digne, Keane, Mina, Coleman, Davies, Sigurdsson, Doucoure, Richarlison, Calvert-Lewin, Rodriguez.
Subs: Lossl, Delph, Walcott, Iwobi, Nkounkou, Bernard, Gordon.
Brighton: Ryan, Lamptey, White, Webster, Dunk, Bissouma, March, Trossard, Alzate, Connolly, Maupay.
Subs: Steele, Mac Allister, Gross, Lallana, Bernardo, Burn, Veltman.
Zed cars being played as the teams are out on the pitch on aa rainy day in Merseyside
Cue the Z Cars Theme as the players walk out.
The weather looks appalling today on Merseyside.
They're off from Goodison Park
Typical footie weather. Should make for great playing conditons
Oh - DCL almost in there for a seventh goal of the season! Good save.
Calvert-Lewin forces a great save out of Matty Ryan as Doucourre caught the Seagulls faffiong about at the back
I agree, David - I used to love to play on days like this where you could go in for sliding tackles with no fear of ripping up your legs.
Matty Ryan forced to beat around a near post rocket from spicy Coleman mustard
Dave will be delighted that Pompey has taken an early lead at Richard Burton
Salford takes the lead at Stevenage
Alzate with an early booking for the Seagulls for challenge that didn't cut the mustard as he used Coleman's jersey to pull him back
Good, strong start from the home side.
Swindon takes the lead at Posh
Alzate with an elbow on James - lucky boy not to see red there.
Alzate on thin ice as he's been booked and then with a clumsy challenge om Humus Rodriguez/. Not the tastiest challenge
The Seagulls look all at sea in these opening moments.
Tractor Boys in the lead at the Fake Dons as they Tractor Boys aim to stay top of the table
I'd love to see Ipswich pop back up.
BOOM BOOM! They're not playing like a "FLOCK OF SEAGULLS
Tigers in the lead vs Argyle Sweater. They could go back up with the Tractor Boys too
Sad to see Ben White in the backline for Brighton. I'll bet he wishes he were still at Leeds.
Well, they certain ran, they ran so far away from the ball so far.
Bristol City in the lead at Forest as they go top and Forest second from bottom. Believe it or not none of that is idle gossip
Shrews on top vs the Gils
Brighton defenders getting stuck into James right from the off. Blimey!
Dave will not be pleased that Richard Burton has tied it up vs Pompey. Liz Taylor with the equalizer
If the Seagulls have anybody sent off then this could be a real thrashing
Exeter takes the lead vs Cambridge
Nice move from the Toffees ends up with Siggy with a blocked shot. They're playing good stuff.
And there's the breakthrough! DLC once again!
GOAL !!! THE TOFFEES TAKE THE LEAD AND WHO ELSE BUT CALVERT-LEWIN AS HE JUMPS REALLY HIGH TO HEAD IN AT THE FAR POST
Great cross over and DCL nudged Ben White aside and rose to nod home.
1-0 Toffees!
That's six goals now from four matches for the Everton striker - he's top of the heap again.
Tangerines in the lead vs in form Abe Lincoln
Carlo Ancelotti must be delighted by the way that his side is playing today.
This lead was coming
Rochdale in the lead vs Fleetwood Mac
Bolton takes the lead at Harrogate. A decade ago they were six or seven divisions apart. Completely contrasting histories
Agreed, Bob. Ancelotti will be pleased. Taking over the Toffees was the biggest challenge of his career
Cheltenham in the lead at the Orient Express , who have resumed playing after their COVID outbreak
Richard Burton has come from behind to lead Pompey 2-1 . Dave will not be pleased
I am back from a walk
I got it as Brighton had a chance for a free kick....they failed to get it into the box!!
Richarlison is down now getting treatment for his ankle.
Real Dons in the lead vs Accrington Stanley while Abe Lincoln ties it up at the Tangerines
Again 5Live is ahead of NBC!
Forest down two at home to Bristol C.... will Clough be coming back to the City Ground?
Pompey took the lead and are now losing
Welcome back, Dave.
Bristol City top and Forest now second bottom
Richarlison comes off looking dejected. Alex Iwoji, the ex-Gunner, coming on to replace him.
Alex Iwobi on for the injured Rich Arlison
Carlisle in the lead vs Barrow.
Richarlson was supposed to be out after hurting his ankle in the League Cup win
Strange that Bristol City's goals are the only Championship goals in the 10 AM matches
The National League starts their league season today. The late one features Kings Lynn , who may be playing their first season at this level vs Yeovil who until recently were playing in the Football League. Sounds like an interesting contest
I wonder why Carlo Ancelotti risked him in this one. I don't think Brighton are much of a challenge for this new-look Everton side.
Forest only off the bottom because of Wednesady's point deduction.... What has happened to Forest?
Lost a lot at the end of last season including the ridiculous result at home to Stoke... and now this
Of course, Bristol City have a 100% record
Colchester takes the lead vs Oldham, who are really off to a poor start this season
Love that Not a Big Club points deduction!
James tries the spectacular - gets it all wrong.
Agreed, Dave. Forest will probably be looking at a change of manager and Bob will be delighted at that points deduction
Cheltenham two up at the rusty Orient Express , who have missed their last two competitive matches
I know I keep complaint about it but why are teams going short on goal kicks when there are THREE strikers there to challenge....it is moronic!
If they aren't pushing up... go short! If they are pushing up....there must be space behind them!!!
VAR checking an off-the-ball incident now - nothing to it.
They are a Big Club.... I want them to be successful
FOREST HAVE SCORED A LEAGUE GOAL!!
1-2
You know the answer to that, Dave - it's because they're looking at some "data" that shows that possession is the key to winning. I hate it, too.
I'd love to see them in the National League.
Exeter two up vs Cambridge
How is it allowed! It is so dangerous!!
Brighton have ANOTHER chance to put in a free kick.... they refuse to kick the ball into the box
Rotherham takes the lead vs the Terriers
Connolly nearly in there but is well off.
I almost passed out when I saw that Forest scored a goal. It's a bloody miracle
Oh dear - Pickers with a real howler. Kate is crushed!
1-1!
Brighton have equalized.....atrocious keeping by Pickford!!!
How is he so bad for Everton but never lets England down
GOAL !!!! THE SEAGULLS HAVE BEEN GIFTED AN EQUALIZER AGINST THE RUN O F P[LAY. PICKFORD DROPPAED A ROUTINE HAL;F VOLLEY FROM TROSSARD OFF A CROSS FROM LAMPTEY AND NEIL MAUPAY SCORED AN EASY EQUALIZER WITH A 180- DEGREE TURN
