Monday in the Prem
As of today, my campus is entering a two-week remote period, wrapping up the Fall 2020 semester. This means that I'll be working from home and will have a bit more flexibility to follow the footer. I'm still technically on the clock doing office hours today and may well have to field some phone calls and conduct some Zooms, but I'll certainly have an eye on the two fixtures we've got on hand today. First up at 12:30 is Leicester v. Fulham. No guesses as to who I'll be pulling for in that one - I hope that Vardy gets six or seven! Then at 3pm, it's West Ham v. Villa. I thought I'd post this one so that you can all chip in as you're watching today. Cheers!

Good morning, Bob. I'll be around for the matches. The Foxes go top if they win by six or more. In the Claret and Sky Blue Derby If there is a winner then that team will go both presuming the Foxes don't lose. United will finish the day in with regardless of the result
A very good Monday afternoon to you, David. I've had a reasonably relaxing beginning of my first remote week. I'm feeling really good that I don't have to be back on campus until February 3.
The team news out of Filbert Street this afternoon:
Foxes - Kasper, Fofana, Evans, Fuchs, Albrighton, Tielemans, Mendy, Justin, Maddison, Barnes, Vardy
Cottagers - Areola, Andersen, Adarabioyo, Aina, Robinson, Reed, Lemina, Lookman, Cairney, Decordova-Reid, Mitrovic
We're a couple of minutes into the match at the KP.
I'm for Mitrovic and the rat-chaser getting into a ruck and getting sent off as a pair. And, I'd be in favor of a breach of conduct charge that forces Maddison to reconsider that shameful facial hair until he can grow a full beard.
Tongue N Cheek wins a corner for the Cottagers
LOL, Steve ! Good afternoon. That's a great plan
Cottagers win a free kick just outside the Foxes box off the corner
Look man! You curled that free kick several feet over as it's now raining cats and dogs in the East Midlands
Nice solo run by James Justin and fouled by Harrison Reed about a foot outside the box and booked for that
OH! How did the Foxes not take the Lead? Into the wall by the Fourth President, then off the post from Tielemans then off the top of the bar from Foffana from a couple of yards out
Hiya, guys - I'm just checking back in after a bite of lunch. Disappointed to see that Leicester haven't racked up two or three goals at this point.
Cheeky near post back heel comfortably saved by Arriola off a cross from Albrighton
GOAL !!!! LOOK MAN! THE COTTAGERS HAVE TAKEN THE LEAD
Vardy with a cross blocked by Adarabayio for a Foxes corner
Cottagers counter like they did for the goal, but off a Foxes corner. This time Look man was quadruple teamed
Back to the goal. Thee Cottagers won the ball just outside their own box. Anguissa went on a solo run and then a slide rule pass found Lookman, who beat the offside trap and scored with a well placed finish past Kasper
Penalty! Sour grapes for the Foxes
2-0! Fulham.
That occurred while I was on diaper duty. I heard Bob and and Steve say oh Fuchs as Bobby Reid was tripped in the box and Cavaliero scored with a rocket of a spot kick in the upper 90
LOL Dave. That's a minefield for a commentator alright.
What on earth is going on at Filbert Street? Come on, people! Unacceptable!
Cottagers back out of the drop zone and replaced by the Baggies
Cottagers surprisingly two up at the half
I've noticed that most commentators have been scrupulous in pronouncing Fuchs' name with the umlaut ("Fyooks").
Hilariously, some have even tried to make our young German center back Robin Koch into "Coke." Rubbish - Robin is loud and proud as a "Cock!" And yes, he's already "Koched" a few up this season. LOL!
Well, I certainly didn't expect a Fulham inquisition like that. Patchy Maddison has to return to the Sharky-tank and try to figure out how to get get back into this one.
Oh the best is and remains Jon Motson's shout of Kuntz! in a World Cup second round match as Stephan blasted one over the goal.
Brendan didn't hesitate to make any changes as he makes a double substitution. Harvey Barnes for Dennis Pratt and Under for Luke Thomas. Both attacking changes as we're several minutes into the second half
If this result holds then the Foxes will move down to fifth if Villa win later this afternoon
Cottagers still two up with ten minutes plus stoppage time remaining. Kasper had to make a great close rage save to prevent the Cottagers going three up
Bobby Reid off with cramp and will be replaced by the bearded Mitrovic
GOAL !!! HARVEY BARNES PULLS ONE BACK FOR THE FOXES. NOW 1-2
The goal came off a Foxes throw. A cross from Tielemans deflected off the head of adarabayo and was headed down by Vardy. Harvey Barnes chested down the header and turned 180 degrees to blast it in the upper 90
About a minute plus stoppage time remaining. Will the Foxes tie it up
A defensive switch from Scotty Parker as A day in the life of Bryan is a cameo in place of Look man.
A quintet of stoppage time minutes
Ihenacho with a close range shot deflected for a corner
Ihenacho failed to control a long ball from Tielemans . Should have tied it up, but cleared away then the Foxes wina corner. Now Mitrovic leads a Cottagers counter. Finds Aina who has a long range chip deflected for a corner . That may do it
That's it . The Cottagers record an unlikely 1-2 win at the KP. Cottagers out of the drop zone while the Foxes are in fourth place for the time being
Totally unacceptable from the Foxes this afternoon. I can't believe that they save up their best performances for Leeds and Arsenal and then shit the bed when they're facing Fulham. Grrr!
That second win of the season means that they've leapfrogged over WBA into 17th place on 7 points. It means that Leeds are now only 9 points from relegation. Don't like it.
Leicester stay in fourth for the time being, but could be displaced by Villa if the Villans win later on at West Ham.
Next up is the mid-table affair between the Hammers and Villans. Here's the team news:
West Ham (3-4-2-1) Fabianski; Balbuena, Ogbonna, Cresswell; Coufal, Soucek, Rice, Masuaku; Bowen, Fornals; Antonio.
Substitutes: Randolph, Diop, Johnson, Lanzini, Noble, Benrahma, Haller.
Aston Villa (4-2-3-1) Martinez; Cash, Konsa, Mings, Targett; Douglas Luiz, McGinn; Trezeguet, Hourihane, Grealish; Watkins.
Substitutes: Steer, Taylor, El Mohamady, Nakamba, El Ghazi, Ramsey, Traore.
Referee Peter Bankes.
We're set to go at Upton Park then. I'm a neutral with this one tonight, but if WHR makes a rare appearance on the blog this afternoon, I'll be all in with the Hammers.
Nice tribute to Diego and Papa Bouba Diop, who died of ALS yesterday. I didn't remember that he'd played for the Hammers.
GOAL! Ogbonna rises to nod home the opener for West Ham within the first two minutes!
1-0 Hammers!
Good afternoon, Bob. I saw the header from the corner . Great header from Ogbonna
Corner won as Gouffal had a shot blocked that was Tragetted for the goal and off the corner from Jarred Bowen Ogbonna out jumped his marker, who saw the header score because it was on Targett
Villa’s away record this season has been brilliant, but they’ve started sluggishly tonight.
Welcome back, David. I'm having a sneaky peek during what are supposed to be my office hours. Shhhh.
Hammers now up to fifth place. Johnno must be delighted
Cheers, Bob. Hope you have footie friendly office hours coming up
Boreham Wood in the lead at Canvey Island. The winner hosts the Evil Lions
Ezri Konsa nearly ties it up for Villa . Heads inches over off a cross from a short corner
Rocket of a free kick from Hourihane well turned around by Flappy
Villa have a dangerous free kick chance now.
it's rifled goalward but Flappy does well to tip it away.
So far, so good, David - no one has called to check in. Just some light email traffic. I've got class later on at 5:40.
GOAL! The man of the hour Jack Grealish slams home an equalizer for the Villans. Is is just me or is he looking more and more like David Beckham every day?
GOAL !!! JACK GREALISH TIES IT UP WITH A ROCKET OF A SHOT FROM THE D SIMILAR TO THE ONE HE SCORED TO KEEP VILLA UP ON THE FINAL DAY OF LAST SEASON
It came off a throw then Grealish received a pass, went on a twenty yard run, then scored with the lazar like finish
They are similar players, but Grealish is more central than Becks while Becks was more of a wide player. I think Becks was more one dimensional than Grealish is turning out
Villa now down to seventh place a point behind Saints and Wolves
That seemed like a very Beckhamesque goal in many respects.
Nice Villa one touch possession and stabbed just wide by Olly Watkins
Boreham Wood two up at Canvey Island and look like hosting the Evil Lions , who will have a short trip for that tie
OH! Villa nearly take the lead. Grealish played a short free kick to Hourihane , whose shot skimmed the side netting
Jarred Bowen with a shot deflected for a corner after Mings was caught in Possession
Did you see the Cup 3rd Round draw yet?
United have Watford at home. Leeds have Crawley away. Arsenal have Newcastle at home. The tastiest one is Villa v. Liverpool.
Konsa heads away the corner. A minute of stoppage time
I saw some of the draws. Can't complain about ours. Leeds got an easy one and Villa vs Pool is a replay of the 7-2 match
It's 1-1 at the half
Wow! I'm barely back in my seat for the second half and Bowen has put WH ahead again. Great entrance by Said Benrahma.
GOAL !!! HAMMERS RETAKE THE LEAD 28 SECONDS AFTER THE SECOND HALF KICKOFF . jARRED bOWEN HEADED IN A CROSS FROM bENRAHMA, ONE OF dEAN sMITH'S FORMER PLAYERS WITH THE bEES
That introduction sure Said a lot
Jarred Bowen won the ball in Midfield, went on a run, played the ball wide left to Benhrama , whose return cross was headed in by Bowen
That should have been Desmond. Grealish went on a long run , played the ball wide left to Olly Watkins and he squared it off for Trezeguet whose close range shot produced a superb reflex save from Flappy
Oh - what a save by Flappy!
Ollie Watkins seemed destined to score there.
Free kick from Hourihane headed out by OIgbonna for a Villa corner
Corner headed out and long range shot from Ezri Konsa comfortably saved by Flappy
Watkins might have nodded the ball on there but tried something a bit more ambitious and it didn't come off.
Hammers now in fifth place, which is a surprise in this season of surprises
Villa have a shot deflected for a corner that is headed away
Oh - great little Cruyff turn and cross by Grealish but Watkins nodded over.
Grealish shows great skill as he does a Cruyff turn to get past two defenders then his cross is headed over by Olly Watkins, who had a free header
The referee has given Villa a penalty here! Trezeguet went down under the challenge of Declan Rice!
PENALTY VILLA . DIDN'T SEE WHAT HAPPEN , BUT LOOKS LIKE RICE CALLED FOR A PUSH ON TREZEGUET AS A CROSS WAS HEADED ON BY DOUG LUIS
Bloody hell - Trezeguet has really been bloodied by Rice on the follow through. After yesterday's massacre at the Emirates, they can't take any chances.
VAR checking and looks like the decision stands. WOW! Trezeguet a pool of blood and caught by Rice's challenge on the follow through off that last challenge
Absolutely , Bob. Wishing Raul Jimenez a speedy recovery
Oh - off the bar from Watkins, who is having a real 'mare today.
Olly Watkins to take the spot kick. OH! Watkins takes and his spot kick crashes off the bar then Traore called for a foul on the aerial duel in the follow up
Yeah - apparently he sustained a fractured skull. Yikes!
Hope you have a better day at the office then Olly, albeit from the Cottage
Villa really deserve to be at level. They've been clearly the better side but WH have taken their chances when they've come.
The home office in effect today. No worries - it's been a relaxing afternoon. Should be a good class session tonight.
Like for like as a veteran Noble is on for Jarred Bowen
This would be a terrific win for West Ham - they'd be up into the European spots.
Glad you will have a great class. Sounds like you will have time for dinner before class.
Agreed about Villa .Second match in a row where they've dominated but been trailing 2-1
I'll probably have a light snack before class and then we'll have a late dinner. Chicken paprikash tonight.
Boreham Wood have won 0-3 at Canvey Island and will host the Evil Lions in the Third Round
WOW ! That's quite a dinner , mate. That's quite a prize for after class.
Free kick chance now for Villa. They'll bring up the big boys.
Jack Grealish with a shot deflecte4d for a corner from a solo run off a short free kick
Like for like as El Mohammedy is on for Matty Cash
Decent strike from distance from Traore but Flappy held on well. Not so flappy today.
A quintet of stoppage time minutes
GOAL! Watkins finally comes good for Villa!
It's Desmond!
GOAL !!! DESMOND OLLY WATKINS VOLLEYS IN A CROSS THAT HIT THE TARGETT. VAR CHECKING FOR OFFSIDE
Looks like his arm is offside by the width of a hair. This is getting bloody ridiculous
Looks like the defender on the far side may have played Watkins onside
VAR check for offside against Watkins. It doesn't look good for him. Offside it is!
Still 2-1.
It's disallowed for offside. That's really harsh on Villa
The five stoppage time minutes are up, but there should be another three minutes due to the lengthy VAR check
Surely we're nearly done here.
That's it - West Ham zoom up to fifth and will harbor dreams of European football. Soton are pushed down to 6th. Villa stay in mid-table in 10th.
I'm off to get ready for my class - nice chatting with you today, mate!
It's over . The Hammers won 2-1 and are up to fifth place. Villa lose 2-1 for the second consecutive week and in both matches dominated
Cheers, Bob. Great chatting with you. Wishing you a great class
