Thanksgiving Break Footer Monday
Happy Monday, everyone! I'm enjoying the beginning of my Thanksgiving Break week and thought I might put a post to see if anyone else is watching. The two matches on offer today are Burnley v. Palace (I'll take a Palace away win there) and Wolves v. Soton (I'm neutral on that one). I'll likely be a bit in and out as I've got laundry, cooking and various other chores to take care of this afternoon. But I'll be checking in regularly.

Team news out of Turf Moor this afternoon:
Burnley - Pope, Tarkowski, Long, Bardsley, Taylor, Brownhill, Westwood, Gudmondsson, McNeil, Wood, Barnes.
Palace - Guaita, Kouyate, Dann, Clyne, Van Aaholt, McArthur, Riedewald, Townsend, Eze, Zaha and Ayew.
Good afternoon, Bob. Glad you're getting a well deserved vacation. Here to join you for the Monday footie
First is Burnley vs Palace from Turf Moor and now they're underway
Burnley second from bottom with only a pair of points all season, but they can move out of the drop zone with their first win of the season. Palace move up to fifth with a win ahead of the later match today
GOAL !!! CHRIS WOOD GIVES BRUNLEY THE LEAD WITH THEIR FIRST HOME GOAL OF THE SEASON
Afternoon, David - great to have on board as usual. Hope the day is going well for you.
Not happy to see my old friend Chris Wood tapping home for Burnley inside the first ten minutes. Not according to the plan.
The Coyote conceded a free kick, which was taken by Dwight McNeil. It was headed away then Gudmunsson played in a long cross headed away by the coyote . A clever back heel from J Rod found Chris Wood who scored with just Guaita to beat
Cheers, Bob. Great to enjoy the pleasure of your company.
That moves Burnley out of the drop zone and replaced by the Cottagers, who are a point behind Burnley
To be honest that goal doesn't do much damage. Leeds only one point less away from the drop zone. I'm predicting that 35 points will be enough to survive this season. As long as Leeds play the way they have this won't have any significant effect according to my calculations
It does seem as if the bottom three are going to be cut off from the rest in fairly short order. Fulham, WBA and Sheffield United look like disasters.
Burnley really playing some dinosaur football here, while Palace haven't really gotten off the bus yet.
Agreed. There might be one or two that join them. They can always appeal to the federal courts that they were victims of fraud if they get relegated. Sound familiar?
Palace move from ninth to tenth. Now behind United on goals scored, but ahead of the Gunners and Wolves on goals scored
Better from Palace. Eze got a long ball from Guaita then skipped easily past Matty Lowton before finding Bat Boy who shot wide of the target
Palace will move two places further down the table if they go two down. Goals count
I'm enjoying some ramen for lunch now.
Speaking of goals counting, there was an interesting conversation about the idea that's become current of rewarding teams who score four goals or more in a match with four points. What's your view of that?
OH! Bat Boy goes on a solo run then shoot just wide from 25 yards out
They did that in the old NASL . An extra point was awarded for teams that scored three or more in a match. I think it's a great idea and would encourage some of these ultra cautious teams to come out of their shells
That sounds like a college student's lunch ,mate. Ramen is one of Jacquelyn's favorites. Enjoy
Decisive sweeper keeping by Guaita
Bob, you will be interested to note that the Leeds U 23s came from behind to defeat their Baggies counterparts 2-1. Tyler Roberts and Helder Costa with the Leeds goals. Were they left out of the first team squad yesterday?
Nick Pope tips a shot from Townsend from 25 yards out
I got a taste for ramen on my Japanese sojourn. I start with the standard noodle pack and then add all sorts of things (miso paste, fish sauce, Sriracha, mixed veg) to make it more interesting.
Yes - both Tyler and Helder were on the bench yesterday and not used.
Back on for the second half - Palace will have to pull their fingers out if they're to get anything from this one.
Back for the second half with Burnley still one up
Back from a trip to the bog and doesn't appear that I missed too much
You're right about the league table. Even with a win for Burnley today, I still like the look of the bottom of the table. We're seven points clear of Fulham in 18th, followed by West Brom on 3 points and the hapless Blades on one sole point.
OH! Horrible back pass from Dwight McNeil to Bat Boy , whop was through on goal, but Guaita rushed out to make a great close range reflex block
Palace pressing for an equalizer.
Schlupp is going on to add a bit of firepower for Palace now.
Long ball from the back finds Chris Wood, but Guaita rushes out of his box to clear
OH! Chris Wood through again and Guaita makes a great close range reflex block
The forgotten man Benteke coming on now for Woy. He needs to make an impact.
Still time for the Eagles to grab that equalizer - come on!
Into a barber shop quartet of stoppage time minutes as Nick Pope is down after a brave example of keeping to stop a close range shot from a Palace corner
Nick Pope looks like he's in lala land. BPF may need to come on to see out the final few minutes
Pope looks a bit shaken up. He's been a titan for Burnley today.
Play resumes and Nick Pope stays on. There should be two to three additional stoppage time minutes
Almost done here. I wish Palace had played this way against us.
Pickford sure hasn't shown that kind of bravery in similar situations. Nick Pope should be the starting England keeper this Summer
Agreed, mate. Wish they played like that at OT too.
Beneteke through but took too long to shoot and it went tamely to Nick Pope. That's it and Burnley hang on to win 1-0 for their first win of the season and their first home goal of the season
So, Palace drop to 10th now and Burnley are up to 17th, as you mentioned. Good with for the Turf Moor crowd.
Burnley now out of the drop zone and a point ahead of the Cottagers who replace them in the drop zone
Next is a key match further up the table as Wolves host the Saints
Time for lunch ahead of the next match
A surprising announcement that fans will be allowed to matches beginning December 2nd. Either 4,000 fans, 2,000 fans or no fans will be allowed depending upon the severity of infection in that area. I think it's premature but that's just my opinion
Wolves vs Saints underway from Molineaux
Saints move up to fourth if they win by tree or more goals while Wolves move up to 7th, familiar territory if they win. United move up to ninth if Wolves lose or draw
Bednarek caught faffing about and Alpha Romeu booked for a foul from behind on Danny Podence just utside the Saints box
Into the wall by Moutinho then a great save by McCarhty from Semedo from long range then McCarthy does well to turn over the rebound
Stu Armstrong puts through Theo who forces a decent save from Rui Patricio
Adama Traore catches Alpha Romeu faffing about , goes on a short run then has a shot from 25 yards out comfortably saved by McCarthy
OH! The Saints nearly take the lead. Alpha Romeu passed to Che Addams , who put through Stu Armstrong and he stabbed a shot wide with just Rui Patricio to beat
Adama Traore goes on a speedy run down the right and is cynically tripped by Vestergaard
Header from Podence off the free kick from Moutinho is well tipped over by McCarthy
Ruben Neves booked for cynically driving into Alpha Romeu
Into stoppage time. A minute of that
Adama Traore booked for a barge on Dnjepo.
It's halftime before the free kick can be taken and still 0-0
Danny Podence put through and his near post shot turned around by McCarthy
GOAL !!! THEO GIVES THYE SAINTS THE LEAD WITH A FAR POST TAP IN
Sort of a scrappy goal which started with a bout of head tennis off a pass from the back . Then Stu Armstrong won the ball down down the right off a shoulder charge that had Wolves young left back down. He played a long diagonal to Dnejpo, then received the pass back . Armstrong's pass was blocked then he passed for a Theo tap in at the far post
OH !!! Theo should have scored his and Saints second . Long ball from the back found Theo with just Rui Patricio to beat and he shot wide
I'm just back from doing some errands and see that Theo Walcott has given Soton a 0-1 lead. It's incredible how well the Saints are doing this season.
YIKES! Saints up to third. Wonder what Bob will have to say about that. Wolves down to 12th.
Welcome back, Bob. They're up to Third!
The highest Saints have been since the Laurie McMenemy era and that was a while ago
Wow - Saints are up to third now just behind Spurs and Liverpool and pushing Chelsea into fourth. Wolves have dropped to 12th. This might be a season of real reckoning for Wolves.
Pedro Neto slams home a rebound there to equalize for Wolves but was he offside?
GOAL !!! WOLVES TIE IT UP . LONG RANGE SHOPT FROM JIMENEZ COMES OFF THE POST AND PEDRO NETO PUT AWAY THE REBOUND
Wolves have the momentum now and could turn this match entirely around.
Saints had a poor pass given away in midfield. Moutinho passed to Danny Podence to Jimenez , whose shot crashed off the post and Neto put away the rebound
Oh - Raul seems to have nodded Wolves ahead - but I think he'll be ruled offside.
Jimenez headed in a free kick, but it was disallowed for offside
Saints now drop to fifth behind Leicester. That will delight Pink Kits who will only get points from her pick of Leicester in the European places this week.
Saints now in fifth place and Wolves up to ninth. United down to tenth
I'm delighted for Pink Kits. She deserves some points
McCarthy with a near post kick save from Pedro Neto
Oh - Neto nearly had a brace there but the keeper saved well with his legs.
One Portuguese for another as Vitinha on for Danny Podence
Diallo for Stu Armstrong as they are about to enter stoppage time
A trio of stoppage time minutes as Saints win a corner
Last chance saloon for these sides to get a winner.
It finishes 1-1 . Saints in fifth and Wolves in ninth
That's that - an intriguing day comes to an end with a 1-1 draw here at Molineux.
Ralph is having a strop with the fourth official now.
Nice chatting with you today, mate. I'll look forward to the Champions League action tomorrow.
Cheerio!
Cheers, Bob. Great chatting Look forward to chatting tomorrow.
CHEERS!
