Lakenheath Old Boys

We are all former students at Lakenheath High School and other public schools in East Anglia. We were in school in the 70s and 80s and drank deeply from the well of British culture of those decades - the pints, the telly, and of course the footie!

Go On, the Two Uniteds!

A very good morning, everyone! It's a morning of the Uniteds in the Premier League today. First up are Everton v. United froM Goodison Park. Everton have fallen off their early form a bit. Can United catch them in a grump mood today? Next up at 10:00am are Crystal Palace and my beloved Leeds. Based on my patented survival rubric, we only need a point from this one. But we tend to either win or lose, so who knows what will happen? If that isn't enough for you, there is Chelsea v. Sheffiled United at 12:30 and finally a London Derby on Peacock between West Ham and Fulham. Join me for all the business today, won't you?

Everton’s fast start to the season seems a distant memory already. They won their first seven games in all competitions, and in some style too, but since then it’s been slim pickings: just one point from the last nine available. They could do with some good news as they look to snap that run, and here’s some: James Rodriguez should be back from injury.

United aren’t in a good place right now. They were eased aside by Arsenal last weekend, conceded one of the daftest goals in the entire history of association football in Istanbul on Wednesday, and are stuck at the wrong end of the Premier League table. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is under serious pressure; another bad performance today would plunge him into all sorts of bother.

Good morning chaps. I'll join you for this one too.

C'mon United.

Some wag has flown a banner above Goodison now that reads "World Knows Trump Won #MAGA." Good grief!

Morning, David - great to have you on board for this one this morning. How was your week?

7:30 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

You will be excited to note that the early FA Cup match today is from none other than Tonbridge Wells as Tonbridge Angels host Bradford City

Morning Boys

Had trouble sleeping last night.....I am sure United will help me catch up on zzzz

7:30 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

They're off from Goodison Park

7:30 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Lots of moments of silence before the kickoff, for Remembrance Day and now for BLM.

7:31 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

And we're away. Quick start for United with Shaw romping up the left side.

7:31 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

United get the bal in the box....right away! Almost found a man

7:31 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

The problem with United is their slowness with the ball, the slowness in the movement and not making any runs up top

7:32 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Morning, Dave - was that you who came on incognito? Welcome! Hope you're doing well.

7:32 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

I think that is Steve
He was like that midweek

7:33 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Good morning, Dave. Now we have the three United regulars on board. Both Uniteds on the telly today as it should be

7:33 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Nice stuff from United early doors.

7:33 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

The ball is being moved faster...I like it so far

7:33 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Steve is the mystery man and Dave even referred to him as a man of mystery

7:34 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Morning, Steve - are you having trouble accessing your LOB account?

7:34 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Interesting that both teams enter the match on a run of bad form. Something has to give

7:34 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

uh oh... we've slowed down now and just passing it east and west

7:35 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Speaking of which, Dave, did Tony ever have a chance to get back onto the LOB? If not, I'll email him again.

7:35 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Bob, in terms of your question the week went well, but Elizabeth and I are having trouble processing this crazy election week. The football and banter will be a welcome break

7:36 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Struth.... that header almost in!

Af first I thought it hit the bar

7:37 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

OH ! Bernard cut in and his shot was diverted by the head of DCL and just over off the stanchion

7:37 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Morning David

Everton starting to get on top

7:39 AM
Blogger g00ner71 said...

Good morning. It's Steve. I forgot to investigate why my profile hasn't kicked in.

Has anyone already said how nice it is for once to see both teams wearing their home kits? More of that please.

7:39 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Agreed, Dave. We need to stop this . The two teams that played yesterday discovered how to stop these mugs, so why not us?

7:40 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

United for the most part do wear red when they can... of course they are wearing the change of of shorts

Arsenal are one of the worst culprits of wearing another shirt!
Even though I'm not a a fan, it annoys me that they don't wear their iconic shirts whenever they can!

What about you Steve? or should I say UNKNOWN

7:42 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Absolutely - we need more of the sides playing in their traditional kits. I'm really tired of the likes of Citeh playing in shocking pink and the like.

7:42 AM
Blogger g00ner71 said...

I agree. I want to wear Red at home, Yellow away, like God intended.

7:43 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

I was encouraged with the first two minutes....now it's like the last 120

7:44 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

180

7:45 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Steve, are you saying that yellow away always?
Wearing yellow against Chelsea?

7:45 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Corner to United... it finally makes it to Martial... hits it wide!!
HE WAS ON

7:46 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Oh - Martial so close to opening the scoring!

7:46 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

He has to bury that

7:46 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Back from the bog to see that United should have taken the lead. A karate chopped shot just wide then just over by Rash. Better from United

7:47 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Rashford doesn't shoot... passes to Bruno....blocked. and then back to Rash...over

7:47 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

I really hope Telles comes into this side when he is fully recovered from Covid
Shaw is pathetic
He is useless going forward and useless defending!!

And Everton take the lead

7:49 AM
Blogger g00ner71 said...

Yes, the kit we wore in the '79 cup final. But wearing our home kit against Chelsea, there's no clash so we would wear red against Chelsea.

7:49 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Sorry, guys - Bernard opens the scoring for Everton.

7:50 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

BUGGER! BERNARD GIVES THE TOFFEES THE LEAD

7:50 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Nothing wrong with going long... of course... you guys don't like it

7:50 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Good to hear... Arsenal do where changed shirt these days... always

7:51 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

United failed at basic defending off a long ball from Pickford. Headed on by DCL to Bernard who cut in and scored with a well placed near post finish

7:51 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

That's what I'd have for us, too, Steve. All white at home and all yellow away. I don't mind wearing the 30s kit (green and blue vertical stripes) that we're wearing these days, and it's a good deal better than the pink, black and whatever away kits of the past. But I grew up with the Revie team wearing white at home and yellow away.

7:51 AM
Blogger g00ner71 said...

Bugger. Smash and grab and Everton are ahead.

7:53 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Rash shoots... out for a thrown in perhaps... almost

7:54 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Bradford City two up at Tonbridge Angels. All is not well in Tonbridge Wells

7:54 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

It is interesting to see Everton play a smash and grab strategy at home. Are they Leicester in disguise?

7:55 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

WAY HAY! BRUNO TIES IT UP FOR UNITED

7:55 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

YES!!!

Bruno equalizes for United!

A decent cross by Shaw... about time!

7:55 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Yes! Lovely header from Bruno and United are level!

7:56 AM
Blogger g00ner71 said...

Better. Fernandes replies with a header and movement that split the center backs.

7:56 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Nice one touch United passing and that Shaw was a great cross for Bruno to head in the equalizer

7:56 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Shaw now gives away a stupid free kick

7:56 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

After I type that I see what Shaw was a stupid trip on Coleman near the corner flag. Tooo much mustard on the tackle?

7:57 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

United counter as the Toffees free kick was headed away

7:57 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Are you complaining Everton kick it long sometimes?
Again, there is a place for it in the game.

Teams don't always have to play out from the back.... the way teams do it these days is moronic

7:57 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Digne hits the woodwork...United torn apart

7:58 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Oh - Digne crashes one against the woodwork from a tight angle! DCL not happy with him.

7:58 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

OH! Digne has a shot come off the side of the post and out for a goal kick

7:59 AM
Blogger g00ner71 said...

Wow. This really is end to end stuff.

7:59 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

United break.... Rash gives it away

7:59 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

I know that you lot were happy about it on the text yesterday, but what the hell are Southampton doing on top of the league. That's just wrong!

7:59 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Yeah - it's a bit of a thriller. I'm enjoying it thoroughly. Definitely no need for caffeine this morning.

8:00 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Bruno with a shot from long free kick... saved

Peter D.... screaming the shooter's name... that's all he does

8:01 AM
Blogger g00ner71 said...

I don't like teams where they set back 6-8 men in defensive positions and 1 or 2 chasers of long clearances upfield. The Everton goal used the long ball to catch you out, but they're confident passing the ball and building the attack. The occasional long ball is ok. But that shit that Leicester are playing, and the fawning over Rogers like he's a footballing genius irks me.

8:03 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

YES!!!
UNITED TAKE THE LEAD!!

Was it Rashford?

8:03 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

WAY HAY RASH GIVES UNITED THE LEAD. HEADS IN A CROSS OF THE INSIDE OF THE POST

8:03 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

A glancing header from Marcus.... He was on

8:03 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Wahay! United have termed it around. Juan Bruno with a little chip in to Rash who flicked it past Pickers.

1-2

8:03 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

He touched it!!

8:04 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Rash played the ball wide left to Bruno whop crossed and it glanced off Rash's head and off the inside of the post for a 1-2 United lead

8:04 AM
Blogger g00ner71 said...

Good grief. Everton's center backs and Pickers got mugged again. 2-1 United now.

8:04 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Not entirely sure that that isn't a second for Bruno - Rash might not have gotten a touch.

8:04 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Potters up to sixth as they take the lead at the Mad Stad. Reading Railroad top, but the Toffees of the Championship

8:05 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Not sure that Pickers had much of a chance on either of those headers. Questions will be asked among the Everton defense about why two United players have been allowed to ghost into open heading positions in the area.

8:05 AM
Blogger g00ner71 said...

Everton left Yerry Mina on the bench and that decision is costing them.

8:05 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

If it is, that's Bruno's sixth of the campaign. Great return from him. He's your most important player IMHO.

8:06 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

They call him Pickers because he's an expert at picking the ball out of the net

8:06 AM
Blogger g00ner71 said...

Potters? You mean Goblins?

8:06 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Definitely not England form from Michael Keane today. And I've never been convinced by this Allan bloke.

8:06 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

I thought it came off Rash, but Bruno now on a hat-trick. I think most of his goals have been spot kicks

8:07 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

A bit rusty from Kung Fu Panda there. He's probably happy that he was flagged off there.

8:07 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

There is more movement up top for United so far

Martial flagged after a weak effort

8:07 AM
Blogger g00ner71 said...

Oh, very disappointing effort from Martial even if he thought he was off-side.

8:08 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

United through on goal , but t karate chopped shot straight at Pickford and offside

8:08 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Damn it... lost a Rashford goal in Fantasy

8:08 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Potters two up at the Mad Stad

8:08 AM
Blogger g00ner71 said...

No more Goblin news please.

8:09 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Sorry, Dave. Still plenty of time for Rash to score. Chances good with Pickford in goal and the Toffees having a somewhat soft center today

8:09 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

phew...I thought that was going to be pen but the flag is up

8:13 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

I'll def tune that in David!

8:14 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Thankfully, Bruno is up and able to continue

8:14 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

8:15 AM

I just can't get excited about following the Championship this season. I wonder why?

8:15 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Now Kung Fu down off a challenge with former United trainee, Michael Keane

8:15 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Yikes... Arm then shin on Martial!

8:15 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

This doesn't look good at all.

8:15 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Not sure, Bob. Thought you would be dleighted

8:15 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

I wonder why?

That match is an FA Cup 1st Round match

8:16 AM
Blogger g00ner71 said...

Bit of working class ballet leaves Martial floored.

8:16 AM

8:16 AM

United up to THIRTEENTH!

8:16 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

In to a an LOB Blogging quartet of stoppage time minutes

8:17 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

I don't think that was much of a foul there by Fred

Come on United.... don't concede

8:17 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Decent clearance header by Shaw

8:17 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Now the Toffees have a free kick. The free kick from Siggy Shaw was headed away

8:18 AM

Thanks for the reference Steve. Wonder if the Working Class Ballet can be seen on Netflix

Bruno in the book.
In my opinion, cards are given out too much. They don't really mean anything anymore!
Every game has numerous yellows and many times red!

Watching old games... player going in the book was a huge thing

Blogger United We Stand said...

When Everton break....there seems to be a lot of space

8:44 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Everyone is taking how elementary defending Demba Ba's goal was midweek.... I totally agree... but what about the second one? Where was Shaw... when the ball came over there were TWO players waiting to shoot....Shaw wasn't in the frame

8:47 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Why bring on Pogba?

8:47 AM

I don't think it will be

8:51 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Nothing given

8:51 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

No penalty in the end. Maguire did crumple a bit. Pickers got off easy. He really is not performing confidently for club these days.

8:52 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

OH! Pickford drops the ree kick as does to Maguire what he did Van Dijck in the Mersey Derby.. Looking at the replay, it doesn't look a penalty, but Maguire hooks a shot over from a foot out

A quiz question. Tonbridge Angels getting thrashed in the Cup. Which current Prem manager had his first managerial job with them

9:01 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

In today's game of multi ball .... a player scoring a hat-trick... the ball he keeps... might have stayed in corner all game and you didn't score any of your goals with it

9:01 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Another chippy one from Bruno. He could easily go off here!

9:02 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Bruno needs to stop sliding in

9:02 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

That was a fair tackle by Bruno on Allan. I agree with Jim Beglin that Allan is trying to get him in trouble. I hate that

9:02 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

OGS should get Bruno off immediately - he's already on a yellow and he's getting reckless with his tackling.

9:02 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

What have United created in the second half?

9:02 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Rashford all of a sudden with a chance....saved
