Keeping Up with the Manchesters
I've taken advantage of the time difference with the UK to wake up a bit later this weekend. But I'm settling in now to enjoy Sheffield United v. Citeh. After that it's Burnley hosting Chelsea at 11:30. Then we finish up at Anfield with Liverpool hostng upstart West Ham. It's all here for us, lads, so enjoy!
300 Comments:
Good Morning, Bob. Here to join you for the Prem matches. Thanks for getting us started
They're off from Bramall Lane
Pep's worst ever start to a season and the Evil Blades worst start to a top flight season since 1975. They finished rock bottom that season. Bob would love a repeat
Wolves defeated Palace 2-0 yesterday to move up to third for the time being, behind the two Liverpool clubs on goal difference
Morning, David - how has your week been? Great to have you on board.
The teams on display this morning:
Sheffield United: Ramsdale, Basham, Egan, Stevens, Baldock, Berge, Ampadu, Osborn, Lowe, Brewster, McBurnie.
Subs: Lundstram, Sharp, Burke, Norwood, McGoldrick, Robinson, Verrips.
Manchester City: Ederson, Walker, Dias, Laporte, Joao Cancelo, Bernardo Silva, Rodri, De Bruyne, Mahrez, Torres, Sterling.
Subs: Stones, Ake, Gundogan, Zinchenko, Carson, Foden, Garcia.
Referee: Michael Oliver (Northumberland).
Ramsdale does well to save a header from Ferran Torres off aa cross from Sterling
Of course, I'm hoping that Citeh can put the Blades to the sword this morning. The more games the Blades lose, the easier it is for Leeds to survive in this league.
It's been going well, thank you for asking. Have been enjoying pleasant cooler weather since Tuesday. How was your week?
Excuses, excuses - the color commentator says that it's more difficult for the Blades to park the bus against Citeh without their usual home support. Why are they needing to park the bus - we played Citeh at Elland Road and took the match to them!
Nice pun, mate and a perfectly good reason. I wouldn't mind seeing both clubs suffering this season
Sterling wins a corner off of John Eagan off a slide rule pass
It was a busy one, with undergraduate advising. So, I'm really looking forward to relaxing with a bit of the footer. The weather is cold rainy with a touch of snow this weekend, so I'm settling in.
A wide open LaPorte volleys wide from the corner. Not too far wide
Those are all excellent reasons to have a relaxing day on the LOB
Bramall Lane has eleven fans in attendance today. They're all on the pitch!
Agreed, Bob. Those are pathetic excuses from the commentator even though they do rely heavily on their fans
Ramsdale is going to be one busy boy this morning. He slaps another one away.
It's a goal fest at Ashton Gate as there have been three goals in the first quarter of an hour. The Canaries went two up through a pair of Pukki goals before Bristol City pulled one back to make it 1-2. That puts the Canaries in second place and Bristol City in 7th. That's not idle gossip
WOW ! I didn't realize this but a massive upset yesterday in the Championship as the Reading Railroad were handed their first defeat of the season as they lost 3-2 at struggling Coventry who gained a much needed three points
Hey Boys,
I will be in and out of for at least the first game
Still annoyed that Drone Racing is on the tv and we have to go to the Cock
I'll pipe in here and there
Good morning, Dave. That drone racing is definitely a bunch of cock and bull
OH! Ramsdale makes a point blank save from Ferran Torres off a Sterling pass after a one two with Cancelo
Mahrez blasts over from the edge of the box
A typical fall day in South Yorkshire as we witness a windy, rainy gloomy day
GOAL! Kyle Walker, a lifelong Blades fan, slams home the opener for Citeh against his boyhood club. Ramsdale had no chance.
0-1 Citeh!
GOAL !!! KYLE WALKER GIVES CITHE THE LEAD ON HIS RETURN TO BRAMALL LANE. GREAT FINISH FROM JUST OUTSIDE THE BOX OFF A STERLING PASS
Morning, Dave. Hope you're enjoying your weekend.
Definitely significant for Kyle Walker as he started his career with the Evil Blades , masking 35 first team appearance before moving on to bigger and better things
Just to let you know, David, as I know you're an avid election watcher, I'll be blogging on Tuesday evening from about 6pm onward with the election results. I'm hoping that Biden can win Florida, Georgia and NC early doors and we can all get to bed early.
It was a matter of when, not if Cite were going to take the lead. The Evil Blades are on a hiding to nothing. Bob must be loving this
Thanks, Bob. I will joining you , but will be biting my short nail to nubs and seeing if my nerves will let me last the night. Harris County may pull out a win for Texas
John Eagan pulls down Ferran Torres just outside the box.
Low drive of a free kick from KDB is easily gathered by Ramsdale
KDB tries one of his patented low drives under the wall. I remember that Bielsa had a player lying on the ground to combat that one.
Evil Blades corner out for another that is cleared . It all started with a throw won by Rhian Brewster
Curling free kick from KDB headed out for a Citeh corner
The Blades will likely have to rely on a flukey goal from a set piece in order to get back into this one. Citeh look fairly comfortable.
Now sunny in South Yorkshire
Close range volley by Ferran Torres blocked by Enda Stevens
Citeh one up at the end of a dominant half even though the Evil Blade came into the match the last ten minutes of the half
A "Great day" for Beundia as he gives the Canaries a 1-3 lead at Ashton Gate on the stroke of halftime. That's not idle gossip.
I'm quite happy as Citeh trot in 0-1 to the good at half time. I'd like to see a couple of more goals from them in the second half.
The second half is underway from Bramall Lane
Second half starting up then. More of the same, please.
This is the kind of free kick opportunity that the Blades have to capitalize on.
Berge with a really poor free kick there - what a waste!
Better start to this half by the Blades. Citeh have noticeably stepped off the gas.
Agreed, Bob. This may be a closer scoreline than we anticipated
Just wide by KDB after Kyle Walker beat Osborn for pace then his pass was only partially cleared, which resulted in the shot from KDB.
That's it for Osborn and like for like as he's replaced by John Lundstram
Citeh just don't seem to have the hunger that they'll need for a title run.
A run by KDB Enda up as a free kick off of Stevens just outside the box
Oh - good save by Ramsdale from Mahrez's free kick.
Free kick from Mahrez well turned around by Ramsdale
Agreed, Bob. I don't see Citeh winning the title even though anything is possible this season
Probably time to bring Foden on to freshen things up. Mahrez hasn't been enough of a threat for Citeh.
This second half has gone stale up to this point
Olly Norwood on for Ethan Ampadu , which is an attacking change leaving Chris Wilder with one change remaining
Decent pressure now from the Blades.
I'm off to help Kate with brekkies.
More Evil Blades pressure. Nice one touch passing and then the final pass from Sandy Berger is caught by a diving Ederson
Oh - KDB nearly wriggled his way into a shooting opportunity. Didn't quite come off.
OH! Nice run and pass by Sandy Berger and he passes to John Lundstram who shoots just over
OH! Rhian Brewster through and tried to chip Ederson who was at the edge of the box, but failed as the offside flag was raised
Cheers, Bob. Look forward to chatting the next match
Cancelo wins a corner off of George Baldock
In L2 , Exeter takes the lead vs Carlisle. Exeter up to third place, a point behind Cambridge while Carlisle is down to fifth place
Just what the doc ordered , but why so late as Phil Foden is on for Ferran Torres. The final roll of the dice from Chris wilder as David McGoldrick is on for Max Lowe
Comfortable save by Ramsdale from Weekend at Bernie's
Gundogan on for Mahrez.
I'm off to take Sparky walkies on a lovely morning as I've had enough of this dross
Great sweeper keeping by Ramsdale off an on rushing Sterling
Back with an English muffin, eggs and fruit and a refill on the cuppa. I see that nothing much happened.
Well, that's that. Not that impressive a win for Citeh but it moves them up to 7th and pushes Leeds down to 8th now. Blades now second bottom where they should be.
I'd love to see Burnley get a win against Chelsea this morning, as that would dump WBA down into the mix.
Bac from walkies on a lovely morning. Hope this next match is a good one because it's really great conditions for outdoor activities
The Canaries won 1-3 at Ashton Gate. That was the halftime score. The Canaries up to second with Bristol City down to seventh place. That's not idle gossip
Back from cleaning up from brekkies. Here's the team news out of Turf Moor:
Burnley: Pope, Lowton, Long, Tarkowski, Taylor, Stephens, Brownhill, Westwood, McNeil, Barnes, Wood.
Subs: Peacock-Farrell, Dunne, Richardson, Brady, Rodriguez, Vydra, Thompson.
Chelsea: Mendy, James, Silva, Zouma, Chilwell, Kante, Pulisic, Havertz, Mount, Ziyech, Abraham.
Subs: Caballero, Rudiger, Jorginho, Werner, Giroud, Hudon-Odoi, Azpilicueta.

The Black Cats take a late lead at the Gils thanks to a spot kick. That moves the Black Cats up to fifth ahead of Pompey in sixth prior to the 11 AM kickoffs
Exeter defeated Carlisle 1-0 to move up to third, dropping Carlisle to fifth place
Pulisic scored a hat-trick in this fixture at Turf Moor last season. Sadly, he's out injured today
One change to that - Christian Pulisic has injured himself in the warm up and Timo Werner takes his place.
Teams coming out at Turf Moor now. Chelsea don't look to pleased by the accommodations.
Black Cats go two up at the ten man Gils. U.S. international, Lynden Gooch , with the goal
Not sure if the old accomodations at Turf Moor were much better. Chelsea spoiled and pampered don't realize what it's like to run a club on a beer budget and we're not talking craft beer
It's over and the Black Cats have won 0-2 at the Gils
They're off from Turf Moor
And we're away now in this one. I may be a bit in and out as the sun has finally come out and I may run out and do some raking.
I don't blame you. It's a lovely day here and I am tempted to do some yardwork too
Fleetwood Mac takes an early lead against a team wearing Oxford shirts
Cambridge takes the lead at Crawley and are now top of L2 ahead of Newport on goal difference
Oh - Ashley Barnes was in on goal there from a lovely through ball. Mendy did well to put him off.
OH! Ashley Barnes was through on goal off a long diagonal from the back , but an on rushing Mendy did just enough to put him off

Ilias Chair has given QPR the lead while not sitting down vs Cardiff
No probs, mate! I have the same temptation here in South Texas
The bees take the lead at Luton and are now up to seventh place
The Terriers take the lead at the Evil Lions , who are now down to fifth place

Into stoppage time at Turf Moor
A minute of that
Orient Express three up vs Bolton
Chelsea one up at the half
The top two in L2 let in equalizers . Harrogate ties it up at Newport as does Crawley vs Cambridge. Very little change in the table despite that
Wycombe takes the lead vs Not a Big Club in a battle of the bottom two in the Championship
The second half is underway from Turf Moor
A tactical change which sounds like damage limitation for Sean Dyche as Dale Stephens is on for J Rod. Not sure why as Burnley is only a goal down
Actually it's J Rod for Stephens , which sounds more like it as it gives Burnley a much needed extra striker
Kevin Long booked for Burnley as Chelsea have a free kick thirty yards out and the Free kick is Mounted straight to Nick Pope
Port Vale takes the lead at seemingly doomed Southend asea. Vale up to fifth place in L2

Richard Burton ties it up vs the Tangerines. Richard up to fourth from bottom a point behind the Tangerines

So, that's Chelsea up to 4th and Burnley on the bottom with only one point from six matches.
Team news out of Anfield tonight:
Liverpool: Alisson, Alexander-Arnold, Gomez, Phillips, Robertson, Jones, Henderson, Wijnaldum, Salah, Firmino, Mane.
Subs: Milner, Adrian, Minamino, Jota, Shaqiri, Rhys Williams, Neco Williams.
West Ham United: Fabianski, Coufal, Balbuena, Ogbonna, Cresswell, Masuaku, Bowen, Soucek, Rice, Fornals, Haller.
Subs: Yarmolenko, Benrahma, Lanzini, Snodgrass, Diop, Fredericks, Randolph.
Referee: Kevin Friend (Leicestershire).
This one will be quite a test of Liverpool. Moyes has the Hammers playing well this season. They'll likely sit back and then try to hit them through Sebastian Haller, their new striker.
Nathaniel Phillips with his first Prem start for Pool while Curtis Jones is making only his second Prem start for Pool
David Moyes has never won at Anfield while Pool go top with a win or draw . So much for Liverpool being well below their best
Some good news for Bob. The Terriers won 0-3 at the Evil Den. Evil Lions out of a playoff spot down to seventh behind the Hornets on goal difference. The Hornets occupy the last playoff spot despite losing 1-0 at Barnsley
More good news for Bob as Wycombe defeated Not a Big Club 1-0 for their first ever Championship win. Wycombe now two points from Safety while Not a Big Club is rock bottom with -4 points , eight points behind Wycombe
I missed the first two and a half minutes as I forgot to switch to NBC
We're away at Anfield - I'd quite like to see West Ham do well today.
Liverpool go top by kicking off , a point ahead of the Toffees and Wolves
If Pool end the weekend top of the table I may go top too
They could easily do that, mate.
Good defending by the debut boy, Nathaniel Phillips as he headed out for a corner to prevent Haller a scoring chance
GOAL !!! HAMMERS TAKE A SHOCK LEAD AT ANFIELD THANKS TO A GREAT FINISH FOR FORNALS OFF THE INSIDE OF THE POST
Very happy to see West Ham go into the lead through a get move and finish by Fournals.
0-1!
It all started at the back as it was a great tackle on Salah. Later in the possession, Jarred Bowen played it wide left to Fornals , who passed back to Masuaku. His cross resulted in a poor defensive header by Joe Gomez Addams and Fornals scored with a great finish
Hammers up to eighth and Pool down to second ahead of Wolves on goals scored
Toffees back top and they play at SJP tomorrow
So much for Nathaniel Phillips being the week link in defense. It was the more established Joe Gomez Addams who defended like Morticia , which gifted the Hammers their goal
