Sunday in the Prem

Morning, chaps - I hope you're enjoying a relaxing weekend. I decided to have a bit of a lie in this morning, but I thought I'd get the thread going so that, if you're up early watching the relegation dogfight between the Blades and the Cottagers, you'd have a place for it. I'll likely be up and around for Palace and Brighton, but I'm mainly interested in the late morning London Derby betweeen West Ham and Spurs. So, grab your breakfast and a cuppa and join me whenever you're up and around.

Good morning everyone. Just woke up to watch Zaha give Palace he lead with a spot kick sending Ryan the wrong way. A very soft penalty. Bat Boy barely tapped on his shoulder and went down easily

9:22 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

The early match finished 1-1 as both teams got their first points of the season. Lookman, on loan from Leipzig gave the Cottagers the lead then Billy Sharp equalized with a late spot kick for the Evil Blades. The Evil Blades out of the drop zone on goal difference. The Cottagers second from bottom on goal difference

9:28 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

A chance for the Seagulls to tie it up. A cross from the right is nice side footed a s a volley across the box by Solly March and a close range header from Neil Maupay is over

In the earlier Prem match, the Cottagers could have won at Bramall Lane, but Mitrovic missed a penalty

Morning, David - I'm just getting settled in and catching up on the early morning action. I'm really happy with that earlier result at Bramall Lane. It keeps both clubs rooted at the bottom of the table.

A minute of stoppage time

Good morning Bob. Glad you're settled in. Hopefully the last two matches are more entertaining

Palace one up at the half thanks to a controversial penalty

9:47 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Did you see the penalty incident that led to the Zaha goal?

9:53 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

I notice that it was my old friend Billy Sharp who brought the Blades back from the death this morning with a late penalty.

Back for the second half as Neil Maupay received a p[ass from Solly March in October, turned and his deflected shot was saved by Guaita. McCarthy was down injured a splay resumes

10:08 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

I did see a piece of the incident . It looked like Bat Boy was lightly tapped and went down really easily

10:09 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Bat Boy scores off a through ball from Riedewald. Now VAR is checking

10:09 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

It's disallowed . Palace still one up thanks to a really soft penalty decision

10:10 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

VAR check for an offside goal there for Palace. No goal in the end.

10:10 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Shot from Trossard from 25 yards out always rising as he got a pass then cut in to shoot

10:11 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Shame for Batboy there - that was a sharp finish at the near post.

10:12 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

OH! Lallana should have tied it up Put through by Ben White , had just the keeper to beat, but took too long to shot and three defenders were there as his shot went out for a corner

10:13 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

The Coyote is down and Uncle Woy not exactly joyously about it

10:14 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Bob, you will be interested to note that the Cottagers should have won, but Mitrovic missed a penalty. He wasn't as Sharp as Billy from the spot

10:15 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Brighton knocking at the door now.

10:15 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Corner from Solly March in October headed on and Neil Maupay flagged offside as he completely miss hit a bicycle kick

10:15 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

I saw some of those clips earlier - it looked like Bad Boy Mitrovic missed a few free header chances as well as the penalties. He's been a bust so far in the Premier League.

10:16 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Nice Seagulls passing move and the pass into the box from Lamptey was desperately cleared

10:17 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

It's sad to see Ben White lining up for a rubbish side like Brighton. I'll bet he wishes he were still Leeds.

10:20 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

I'm guessing that you will be wanting a draw tomorrow when the Baggies host Burnley in another relegation six pointer. No matter what happens , one or both of the teams will be out of the drop zone and the Evil Blades will be back in the drop zone regardless of the result

10:20 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

That's true, but hard to predict the outcome of a season as both were expected to finish in similar positions. Looks like Ben White made the wrong decision, but only time will tell

10:21 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Yeah - that would be a great result for us. I'm just happy that there are some weak teams such as the Baggies, Cottagers and Blades rooted to the bottom. It gives us some breathing space.

I'd be happy with a point against Wolves tomorrow.

10:22 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Each side with a youngster in a fight. Lamptey of the Seagulls and Mitchell of Palace . Mitchell booked minutes earlier. VAR checking for violent conduct. Nothing doing as the free kick from Trossard is dunked wide

10:23 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Agreed. That would be quite a result. Strange Leeds schedule as they play Monday and Friday this week against teams from the West Midlands

10:24 AM

Seagulls cross headed out by Joe Ward for a Seagulls corner

10:25 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

I'm not expecting much from the next match between two former United managers who are known for their defensive tactics . I think the late one will be the MOTD

10:26 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Shot from Bissouma blocked by Cahill for a corner. Corner from Solly March in October dunked down to Bissouma who slices a shot high and wide

10:27 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Strange that a foul wasn't called on Zaha for the challenge on Lamptey when the same exact challenge was called a penalty. Guaita booked for time wasting

10:33 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Hmmm - interesting. Why do you think that?

10:33 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Joe Ward called for a foul on Trossard about a foot outside the box. Lallana and Trossard off to replaced by Aaron Connolly and Alexis McAllister. That wasn't even a foul

10:35 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

I expect Moyes vs Little Joe to be defensive. I think the Foxes and Villa are less defensive than the Spuds and Hammers

10:36 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

The final roll of the dice from Harry Potter as Dan is burned off by more than a gross.

10:39 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

That makes sense. I suppose I'm still thinking in terms of last season when Villa were rubbish.

10:39 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Uncle Woy shutting up shop as Milovojevic is on for Bat Boy

10:40 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

If this result holds then Palace will be 6th and the Seagulls 16th. That's strange as these teams look to be of equal quality

10:41 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

This match is hardly an advert for the league.

10:44 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Townsend with a stupid foul on Solly March in October

10:44 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

I agree - Palace are playing a bit above their abilities at this point. I expect them to end up mid-table. Brighton I'd say will be lower half.

10:45 AM

Beneteke on for Schlupp on the final roll of the dice for Uncle Woy

10:45 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Guaita fumbles the free kick in a crowd of players then gathers the rebound in a crowd of feet and somehow Guaita wins a fee kick

10:46 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

GOAL! Brighton grab a late, late equalizer, just as in the last match.

1-1!

10:47 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

GOAL !!!ALEXIS MCALLISTER TIES IT UP FOR A DESERVED SEAGULLS EQUALIZER. A LONG CLESRRACE RESULTED IN A POOR CLEARANCE FROM JOE WARD TO NEIL MAUPAY HAD A PASS COME OF SOLLY MARCH AS MCALLISTER SCORD WITH A DEFLECTED SHOT FROM 25 YARDS OUT

10:48 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Into seven minutes of stoppage time. That's ridiculous

10:48 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

The Seagulls remain 16th, but are now three points clear of the drop zone. Palace down to 12th. That's more realistic

10:49 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Late Seagulls corner taken and in crowd of players Lewis Dunk sent off for a two footed challenge on Gary Cahill

10:51 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

A deserved equalizer for the Seagulls as they dominated the second half and Palace pay for sitting on a lead for half a match

10:52 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Now Neil Maupay and Zaha are in an argument . No surprises as they are the two most vocal players on the pitch

10:53 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

A bit of a ruck now as the match winds down.

10:53 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Play resumes after a stoppage of three minutes so a total of ten minutes of stoppage time will be played. This is bloody ridiculous.

10:54 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Aaron Connolly goes down looking for a penalty under the challenge of the Coyote, but Stuart Atwell is having none of it

10:55 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Palace haven't had a shot for 80 minutes. They definitely haven't earned three points

10:56 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

That's it for this one - it ends a 1-1 draw, just like the early one.

I'm off for a refreshing shower.

10:57 AM

11:31 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

The Spuds won a tackle just outside their own D and a couple of passes later Harry Kane and Abel to find Number One Son with a long Ball. He cut inside Balbuena and scored with a great finish from just outside the box

11:34 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

OH! Free kick from Aaron Creswell just wide , curling into the side netting but Lloris looked to have it covered

11:35 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

The Spuds now up to second pending the results of the late matches today and tomorrow

11:36 AM

Hammers corner is volleyed wide by Antonio

11:37 AM

GOAL !!! HARRY KANE AND ABEL TO PUT THE SPUDS TWO UP. HE CUT INSIDE RICE AND SHOT PAST SEVERAL JAMMERS DEFENDERS LEAVING FLAPPY FLAT FOOTED

11:39 AM

Hey Boys,
I am back from the store to see Harry score Spurs third.... Could they win the league???

11:47 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Blimey! I'm just back from the shower and Spurs are already 3-0 within the first quarter of an hour. You can't be napping this season.

11:49 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Antonio booked for a naughty challenge on Number One Son

11:50 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Welcome, Dave - I can't see Spurs winning the league. At best, they're flat-track bullies. But the Hammers could get relegated this season. I don't rate them.

11:50 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Bale still to come!

11:50 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Good morning , Dave. Welcome back, Bob. Will spurs do what they did at OT?

11:51 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

To answer your question, Dave I think yes. They were talkin g about the fact that with Bale playing in future matches Spurs have to be considered title candidates. It should be wide open this season with Spurs and the Toffees challenging Pool and Citeh

11:52 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Cissy down with a head injury off the Spuds free kick

11:53 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

They were also talking about an incident involving Aguero and the lineswoman in the Citeh vs Gunners match yesterday.

11:55 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

I am not sure. As you said, United aren't exactly flat-track fodder! In less than two games... NINE goals.... without Bale

I think they could be a real threat!!

West Ham have won 4-0 at home and 3-0 at Leicester
I think they'll be fine too

11:56 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

I'm not sure that Bale will make much of a difference to this team. Where does he fit in?

11:56 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Long ball headed on by Antonio and Pablo Fornals shoots straight at Lloris. I think that's the first save of the match for either side

11:57 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

I think Bale can play a lot of positions . He's a wildcard for Spurs and offers something different. I think he will make them even better. His speed and trickery will be an extra threat for opponents to deal with

11:59 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Do you think it is the Gunner Color Shades that is causing you to think they are no-hopers?

11:59 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Bale will be part of the top 3.... especially with Kane dropping back... he could look for Son or Bale

Frightening!!

12:00 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

I picked Spurs to finish third in the PPP and that was without Bale. Not sure how I would have predicted their season with Bale

12:02 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

If Spurs score four more without reply then United will move one place up to 13th

12:03 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Brave keeping by Flappy as the Spuds won the ball deep in the Hammers half and pass from Aurier was gathered at the flying feet of Number One Son

12:05 PM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Bale in his prime might have fit in well; Bale after years of sitting on the Real Madrid bench - I'm not so sure.

12:06 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Davinson Sanchez clears for a Hammers corner

12:06 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Harry Kane and Abel to be well offside off a long ball from Number One Son

12:07 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Bale could also be an option off the bench. I just think that's one additional threat to what the Spuds already have. Also that will give them plenty of depth

12:09 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

I think Bale is going to be deadly!

I think Spurs could go far this season!

12:09 PM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

They're far to Spursy. They'll have amazing days like this and then lose in a damp squib match to a team like Brighton.

12:10 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

The Spuds break off a tackle on Masuaku and it ends in a long range shot from Steve Berg-Wine being well wide

12:12 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Spurs up to second
GF 15 GA 5

12:12 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

That's possible, but Pool and Citeh look like they will this season too. It should be a really tight title race this year

I hope to see Bale in the second half

12:17 PM

It is your Red Half of N. London bias...I think

12:28 PM

Kane's role at Spurs was said to have changed on the Beeb

From striker to quarterback

Would it work with England?

12:29 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

I don't see why it wouldn't . Something for Gareth to ponder.

12:30 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Teams out for the second half
No change

We are off

Blogger manunitedrules said...

The second half is underway from SFL 2.0

12:32 PM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Harry Kane seems to have overcome that slight knock and we're set to start the second half.

12:33 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Since Gareth Bale has been signed then surely it's difficult to see Delle Alli getting any playing time, not that he is now

12:34 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Half Volley from Masuaku well over after a cross from Bouffal was not cleared

12:35 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

He can't even make the match day squad!
Don't know why he didn't make a move in the window!

I saw somewhere they may be something to do with a drinking culture that had Brandon Williams and more importantly Mason Greenwood not making the bench yesterday

12:36 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Offside...but hit the damn net!

12:37 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

OH! Fornals offside but heads over from a yard out off a deflected shot from Antonio

12:37 PM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Oh - I thought that Fournells might get one back. Spurs have really taken their foot off the gas, in true Mourinho fashion.

12:38 PM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

With the way that this season has been going, you can't rule out a 3-3 draw in this one. Or 9-2 for that matter!

12:38 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

That makes sense as to why Mason Greenwood didn't even make the squad and why Brandon Williams was almost loaned out to the Saints. Terrible start to the season for Greenwood and really stupid., breaking COVID rules in Iceland in September and now the drinking. Greenwood and Williams threatening to ruin promising careers that are just starting

12:40 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Another corner for the Hammers as they have made a good start to the second half

12:41 PM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Dele Alli not even in the squad - wow! How far his career has fallen!

12:48 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Agreed, Bob. As Dave stated he should have left during the transfer window because his Spurs day are pretty much numbered.

12:50 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

I want to see Bale come on
Glad he's back from Bloody Madrid

Wish he came to United

12:51 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

I agree, Dave. Would prefer him over bloody Pogba

12:52 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Still no 0-0 matches this season . Long may this continue

12:52 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

VVD's injury....could Pool be in trouble?

That's why I think Spurs could make a real challenge...wish I could say the same for United!!

That 4-1 result was very flattering
We played better but scored three goals after the 86th minute

12:53 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

I think it is 46 matches and counting
This is the 5 match day
10 each week
Still two left this week and the two that still have to be mad up by United and City

12:55 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

I agree that the result flattered us a little but it was much improved performance that showed signs of encouragement

12:56 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Wonder if the Baggies vs Burnley tomorrow will break that streak. Hopefully not

12:56 PM

It was 'Arry Redknapp who moved him up

Free kick... Bale takes!! On target but weak

1:00 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Again, I think Spurs are major challengers this season....can I change my pick from United?

1:00 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

That change is interesting because I'm thinking that Berg-Wine would be the odd man out if Bale plays with Kane and Son

1:01 PM

The winner of the late match will be second a point behind the Toffees. A draw would put Villa second, the Foxes third , and Pool fourth all level on points

Bloody hell! Just when I thought it was petering out and I headed off to have an early lunch, the Hammers staged an epic come-back!

I knew it!

Are you still around for the late one, David? I may be in and out depending on the weather. We were planning to wash out cars and swap out the mats for the winter, but it's looking a bit breezy now.

It was too breezy out front, so I'm back for more of the good stuff. I'll be grading some papers while watching this one.

Yes, Bob. Back for the late one. It's third vs fourth. The winner goes into second place

Anyone around for Leicester Villa? I'm sorry for being late today, but I've only just started breathing again after a 45 minute laugh at Little Joe and his gang of chancers.

Good afternoon , Steve. Yes Bob and I are here for the late one. Don't blame you for laughing hysterically

This top of the table clash is a bit tame for my liking. Hi David.

Dennis Pratt brings down Jack Grealish . Decent position for a Villa free kick on a rare attack

Agreed, Steve. I was expecting this one to be more entertaining with or without Vardy

Near post pass from Castegne off Martinez for a Foxes corner

I think Barnes was impeded off the ball there. Leicester should have had a pen.

First shot on target of the match as a deflected shot from Ihenacho off a pass from Ayoze is comfortably saved by Martinez

Amazing how much having a quality keeper has improved Villa. I guess they also picked up Ollie, but Emmy has been just as brilliant as he was for us during Leno's injury lay off.

Nice Villa possession as a cross field pass from McGinn finds Matty Targett , who passes to Jack Grealish and his pass finds Trezeguet who shoots just wide

Very clever pull-back from Grealish picks out Trezeguet whose shot goes wide. I hope Southgate is watching. There were opportunities to start him during the Interlull.

Agreed, Steve. Some of Gareth's picks during the last break were really questionable. Hope players like Grealish and Mings play if they're in better form than anyone else

Ayoze booked for a foul from behind on Jack Grealish

That Merseyside derby yesterday was too early for me, but I'm really disappointed for VVD who I guess is having knee surgery today and will be out most of the rest of the season. He's the standard of defending quality in the league and even for neutrals is a big loss.

McGinn booked for a foul from behind on Harvey Barns. It would be nice to see Gareth giving Harvey Barnes a chance

Blogger manunitedrules said...

Agreed, Steve . That will definitely hurt Liverpool and the league in general. I thought Pickford should have been sent off.

I think Barnes was in the squad wasn't he? The Denmark match went off the rails so early that I think Southgate's plans to try Graelish and others went out the window.
