Nations League Wednesday!

It's time for another bit of Nations League tosh today, with Gareth Southgate's England boys takiing on Denmark at an empty Wembley Stadium. I'll be having a sneaky peek at the match on the Plus during my office hours this afternoon. Come on, you Three Lions!

Hiya, last match of this Nation's League lark. Maitland-Niles named as a starter, so I hope he sails through unevenfully.

Who was with me on that host nations club bus to see the Danes and England all those years ago?

Good afternoon, Bob and Steve. How is everyone today.

Nice cross...no one there to knock it in!

I hate these two guys on the mic....why have the Scot Nichol on an England game.... Scotland are playing now

Yellow for Mags

OOOOOH, Maquire tags Poulson and picks up a yellow inside of 5.

What has happened to Maguire....he ducked for a cross there
Apparently, Stevie N thinks it was the right thing to do

2:52 PM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Given that yellow, I'd have Maguire off at half time. No need to risk a red for him with the likes of Tyrone Mings and Michael Keane on the bench.

2:52 PM
Blogger gooner71 said...

Is that Stevie Nicholl? I agree, he shouldn't be let within miles of a microphone.

2:55 PM

Maguire should not be anywhere near an England squad, but that's just my opinion

2:55 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Damn...Belgian's take the lead....took England 90+ minutes to score against them

2:55 PM

These days, keepers are expected to deal with a back-pass like that from AMN. No big deal, or it really shouldn't be.

2:59 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Eric Dier withdrawing from the squad is not a loss at all. I'm sure Gooners would agree

3:00 PM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Oh - Walker found Mount really well but somehow he couldn't find a teammate with his cross.

3:00 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Another useless pass in the box by Mount!

Do these guys know what they are supposed to do with the ball in the box!

It just stuns me how bad it is

3:00 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Talking Eric Dier, Steve Nichol is a dire announcer.

Blogger gooner71 said...

Dier can do one and take his pal Harry with him.

Blogger manunitedrules said...

Hard to believe the Scots are top of their group. Wee Ryan with the Scots goals. The Scots have a chance to get promoted t League A and to qualify for the WC through the back door

3:02 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Rashford with speculative effort....I'm happy with wanting to shoot but there was space in front

I do think Rashford has dipped and does not impact a game as he should

Stays wide too much
Stands too much
Passes the ball backward first time too much

3:02 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Iceland tie it up

3:03 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

3:03 PM

There are as many back door entries to the WC as there were for the Euros

3:04 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Rash outside on the right... didn't make the run into the box...maybe he knew the ball wasn't going to come over..... if it was me... I would have been running in the box

Another poor cross by Mount

I still don't understand this qualification nonsense. I'll just wait for my Panini album and stamps.

3:06 PM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Too bad - Maitland-Niles had a chance there. Dwelled on the ball a little too long.

3:06 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

That sounds right , Dave. Four back door entries for the Euros. I think three for the WC.

3:07 PM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

I don't either, Steve - I'm just treating these as friendlies. That's what they seem to be, in essence. No one cares about the Nations League.

3:07 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

England play like United....refused to attack going forward...with pace

A perfect chance to take the space in front.... go sideways

I like the Nations League.... England were close to winning a trophy. Much better than playing the friendlies

3:09 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

As long as England don't finish bottom they won't be relegated to League B. If they win the group then they get to play in the four team tournament. Iceland look like being relegated. Between England and Belgium for the tournament

3:09 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

NO ONE attacks the ball inside the six yard box...ATTACK IT

Erickson can swing another free kick in now.

Cleared out.

3:12 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

I agree with Bob . They're like friendlies and even many managers are treating these like friendlies by playing weakened teams. The only difference is three teams will qualify through the NL back door. The other difference is in friendlies a player can play for another country if his only caps are in friendlies. Once he plays an NL: match he's committed to that country since the NL is considered to be official matches

3:13 PM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Okay, Dave - real quick:

Harry Kane and Abel to draw the ire of Steve with a close range scuffed shot

3:15 PM
Blogger gooner71 said...

I did see that. It's hardly the moment for the big clubs to get Bolshie and try that kind of money grab.

I'm just happy that the Kroenkes are so odious that even United and Liverpool don't want to be in the same room with them for these plans.

3:15 PM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Who scored? And what was the scoreline?

3:15 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Lingard gave England a really late lead vs the Dutch.... but VAR took it back...offside by a toe nail

3:17 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

All because the stupid control in the midfield.... STUPID!

3:17 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Dave will not be pleased to hear Stevie Nichol saying England should play with two banks of four and breaking. They have been playing sort of that way anyway

3:18 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

He's got enough defenders already on...why make a change?

He is going to bring on Mings

3:19 PM
Blogger gooner71 said...

3:19 PM

What happened there...stupidity in the back.... PENALTY!

3:19 PM

There was no way that was a penalty. Very poor decision

3:21 PM

Mings will move to the canter of defense with Kyle Walker back at right back

3:22 PM
Blogger gooner71 said...

Ref was completely conned by Braithwait. Disgusting flop.

But AMN leaves the field in one piece in England's reshuffle after the Maguire dismissal.

And the very bothersome Dolberg is off now. Injury? He was very dangerous and now some wee man named Sisto is on.

England and won 3-2 in Spain after taking a quick 3-0 lead.... Spain beat England at Wembley even though Welbeck a very late goal called back
In the last game, England could win the group, come second ore get relegated
Croata scored a second half goal but as we are entering Manhattan from the GW Bridge.... Lingard and Kane score for England and they win the group

It wasn't a Dane. I was thinking of Martin Odegaard, a Norwegian at Madrid. He's 21 now.

Gareth, the 10 you've got on the pitch do not have a goal in them. Get some attacking threat onto the pitch!

4:08 PM
Blogger gooner71 said...

Oh how did Kasper do that? That's amazing.

4:09 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Steve, the one player that comes to mind is a Norwegian named Odegaard with Real. He was supposed be the next Messi. He's 21, but has been loaned to two Dutch clubs and Real Sociedad. Has been with Real since 2015 but only played three matches for Real prior to this season. Does that sound like him?

Better delivery from a corner and Mings put a strong header on goal. Kasper beat it away wonderfully.
