Lakenheath Old Boys

We are all former students at Lakenheath High School and other public schools in East Anglia. We were in school in the 70s and 80s and drank deeply from the well of British culture of those decades - the pints, the telly, and of course the footie!

Transfer Deadline Day!

Happy Transfer Deadline Day! As is traditional on these days, I'm posting a thread so that we can chat about the big news of the day. I'll be following all of the moves throughout the day on the Guardian blog and there is a nifty Transfer Deadline Day wrap-up show from 4-6pm on NBC Sports. So, who have you got your eye on for your club today?

Also being linked with two teenagers who supposedly have great potential. Heard this story in the past. Both have played only a handful of first team matches

Morning, David - here's the big news so far:

* Ben Godfrey has moved from Norwich City to Everton for a fee that could reach £30m.

* Theo Walcott could be on his way back to Southampton on loan from Everton.

* United are about to sign Porto left-back Alex Telles and free agent striker Edinson Cavani.

* United are also still interested in signing Barcelona winger Ousmane Dembele, as their hopes of getting Jadon Sancho in from Borussia Dortmund fade.

* Tottenham Hotspur left-back Ryan Sessegnon is off to Bundesliga side Hoffenheim on a season long loan.

My beloved Leeds have agreed a deal to sign Brazilian winger Raphinha from Rennes.

* Nobody wants Mesut Ozil, including Arsenal ... who are stuck with him.

Another big story is one from the England squad as Tammy Abraham, Sancho, and Chilly attended a party that violates COVID protocols. All three out of the squad pending an FA investigation. Sterling out of the squad due to an injury with Reese James being called up

Forgot about Dembele . I think that would be a good signing, but as with other signings it's a matter of how they adapt to the Prem.

Bob should be happy with the Brazilian signing from Rennes. Will Steve be having a party. The Gunners linked with box to box midfield player, Thomas Partey. Torreiria may be part of an exchange deal. The Gunners got rid of their mascot, bas Bob stated they're stuck with the Beaker

I don't know him at all but some squad depth in that area is always helpful.

Cavani has completed his move to United. So, hopefully you lot will have a bit more firepower up front.

I'm not completely sold on Cavani. United need to be signing g the lest players in the world and sadly they no longer want tot join United. Cavani may be decent player, but he was playing in a weaker league and I'm not sure that he will score as many goals as we hope. He only scored seven times last season.Telles looks to be a decent signing. Also , we are signing an unknown 18 year old from Atalanta. He's probably not ready to step into the first team. We really need help at the back and that wasn't addressed.

I get the sense that Dave shares your assessment of Cavani. He was dynamite as part of that front line for Uruguay with Forlan and Suarez but that was a while ago. Telles looks like a better fit; Luke Shaw should definitely be nervous.

Actually, I have a suspicion that the signing of Partey may preface a reassessment of Ozil by Arteta.

It's Ozil's workrate that's questionable and when he plays with Xhaka, and the few times he's played with Ceballos, there's less spine to the mid so Ozil's tasked with defending more than he fancys. Maybe with a more robust defensive middie like Partey, Arteta can experiment with letting Ozil do the things that he can do. Partey's talents may be exactly what drives us on this year.
