Footer on a Sunday
I'm up a bit late, having to decided to have a lie in during the early one. Spurs have just pulled off a late win through Harry Kane against the Baggies, and I couldn't be happier about it. Next up on NBC Sports is the intriguing match-up between Wolves and Leicester. That's followed by the big one - Man City v. Liverpool - on Peacock. And then the Arsenal take on Villa in the late one on Peacock. Join me for the fun today, eh?
182 Comments:
That means that three of the bottom four sides have lost this weekend, which means that, despite our loss, we haven't lost any ground in the relegation fight.
The starting XIs at Filbert St. today:
Leicester: Schmeichel, Fafana, Evans, Fuchs, Justin, Mendy, Tielemans, Praet, Maddison, Vardy.
Wolves: Rui Patricio, Saiss, Coady, Boly, Semedo, Dendoncker, Neves, Marcal, Neto, Podence, Jimenez.
Good morning, Bob. here to join you. I slept thrpouygh the first half of the early match and saw the second half.
That result means that the Spuds are top of the table. I think the Foxes go top with a win in this match
It's been a slow start to this one, with few chances at either end.
Cross from Dennis Pratt comes off the arm of Wolves's Max Kilman. VAR checking for a possible penalty to the Foxes.
ANTHONY TAYLOR CHECKS.
PENALTY FOXES! THAT SEEMS HARSH
Morning, David - great to have you on board.
A VAR check for handball has given Leicester a chance to go into the lead. And Vardy delivers!
1-0 Foxes!
VARDY TO TAKE.
GOAL! VARDY GIVES THE FOXES THYE LEAD FROM THE SPORT SENDING RUI PATRICIO THE WRONG WAY
Thanks, Bob. Great to enjoy the pleasure of your company
Foxes now top of the table.
That penalty was rather harsh. I don't like that those incidents are being called handballs as they aren't intentional.
I hope that you had a good evening toasting the end of the Trump era.
Thanks Bob. It was great. I celebrated with Rolling Rock, a "Pennsylvania" beer. Did you and Kate celebrate?
I'm thinking between the end of the Trump era and the Evil Blades being rock bottom you must be feeling content.
Agreed. That was never a penalty. Not sure what Anthony Taylor saw on video that we somehow missed.
Long Foxes possession and a long range shot from Fuchs is just wide
We did, indeed. We watched the speeches from Harris and Biden and marveled at the sense of having decent role models in charge again. For one night, at least, we didn't think much about the Baby-in-Chief. I suppose we'll have to deal with him again tomorrow when the court proceedings begin.
Bloody hell - Wolves have conceded another penalty! This one was dead to rights. Vardy to take again....
PENALTY FOXES . MARCAL CAUGHT OUT BY A LONG BALL AND TRIPS JAMES JUSTIN.
OH! STILL 1-0 AS VARDY TAKES AND IT'S A BRILLIANT PENALTY SAVE BY RUI PATRICIO AND THE REBPOUND BOUNCES OFF VARDY FOR A GOAL KICK
And saved by Rui Patricio! Poor effort from Vardy right down the middle. The Wolves keeper did well to save with his feet.
Vardy remains on eight goals.
Off to take Sparky walkies. Will be back for the second half
Half-time: I was hoping that this would be a free-flowing match between two teams that can play a bit of football. Instead, both sides have been shy about attacking each other because they both know each other's potential on the break. Shame.
I'm off to the shower now, so that I'm ready for the big one later on.
Back from walkies and feeding Sparky. Ready for the second half. The second half is underway as Marc Albrighton is on as a halftime sub
Tielemans heads a near post cross near wide
The Fourth President goes on a solo run and Ruben Neves booked for acting like the 45th President, bringing him down from behind
OH! Cross/shot from Vardy tipped over by Rui PAtricio
Foxes caught in Possession deep in their half and Jonny Evans booked for tripping Pedro Neto in the D. Free kick from Ruben Neves well over
Kasper does well to tip over a long range shot from Ruben Neves off a cross that was headed away. Then Kpasper turns around a shot from Dendoncker
Nice run down the left by James Justin then passes to HArvey Barnes and would have scored but his shot was deflected over by Max Kilman
I'm back at the death of this one and quite happy that I opted for a long, leisurely shower. Leicester still 1-0 up from that dodgy penalty call in the first half. It doesn't seem from your comments that Wolves have had the quality to mount a come-back. If anything, Leicester could have had another.
Into stoppage time, now. Leicester will move to the top of the league with this win, their sixth of the season.
Wolves will drop to eighth, with their third loss of the season.
The Foxes hold on to defeat Wolves 1-0 and are now top of the table
Next up is the big one - 1st vs. 2nd from last season. Strangely, they come into this one 4th and 12th.
The team news out of Maine Road:
Manchester City (possible 4-2-3-1) Ederson; Walker, Dias, Laporte, Cancelo; Rodri, Gundogan; Torres, De Bruyne, Sterling; Jesus.
Substitutes: Steffen, Stones, Ake, Zinchenko, Garcia, Bernardo, Foden.
Liverpool (possible 4-2-3-1) Alisson; Alexander-Arnold, Matip, Gomez, Robertson; Henderson, Wijnaldum; Jota, Firmino, Mane; Salah.
Substitutes: Adrian, Phillips, Milner, Keita, Jones, Shaqiri, Origi.
Referee Craig Pawson.
Back for the late one and Peacock yet to start their coverage of the match
In the SPL, Celtic won 1-4 at Motherwell while in a match of top vs bottom, Rangers half a dozen up vs George Hamilton Academicals. Rangers now nine points clear of Celtic, but the Hoops have two games in hand
Welcome back, David - I'm about to turn on the Peacock coverage.
Yikes , the rout is on as Rangers now EIGHT up as George Hamilton will feel that eight is more than enough
Thanks, Bob. The coverage is just starting.
We're set to go, then. Liverpool get us underway.
They're off from the Etihad
Sounds as if that Rangers vs. Hamilton match is rather academical at this point.
Quick start from Liverpool. Long cross over toward Mane, which he knocked down but no one was following up.
Liverpool attacking from the off and both attacks ended with the final ball being off
Gabby Jesus does well to get to the by-line but no one was on the end of the cross.
Hey Boys,
I am here as Liverpool get a penalty!
PENALTY LIVERPOOL. MANE OH MANER! THAT WAS A STONEWALL PENALTY CONCEDED BY KYLE WALKER
Penalty to Liverpool! Mane dropped the shoulder and Walker couldn't keep with him. Definite trip.
Hey Boys,
I am here as Liverpool get a penalty!
Good morning, Dave. Perfect timing.
Welcome, Dave - great timing on your part. How's your Sunday going?
I hate how Lee Dixon saying....there was contact!
The pen stands...up comes Salah...One nil!
GOAL!!! SALAH IGCVES POOL THE LEAD FROM THE SPOT
Weird camera angle on the penalty kick but Salah with a super penalty.
0-1 Reds!
I have had a busy morning.
Watched most of the Spurs match and then listened to the Foxes on 5Live doing some errands
Just back from a walk in BEAUTIFUL weather
I agree. Contact doesn't make it a penalty. The fact that it was a foul does
Crazy Cup game today
Torquay were 5-3 up vs Crawley in Extra Time..lost 5-6
I am actually upset with myself. I think I want Liverpool to win this...I hate Pep so much and I don't like how City play!
I know I am in the minority but it does nothing for me
Of course... still pissed with NBC and Peacock
That's a bonus to have nice weather in November just as it is to be warm and humid here in November as it's supposed to be the next few days
I have to hide my phone so I don't get updates before I see it
I think you are in the majority with the last two statements.
Hendo with a weak effort well wide
I saw that. I think nine out of eleven goals were scored in the 90th minute and on while six out of eleven were in ET
A few upsets in the Cup as Wigan lost at home to Choreley as did Scunny to the Solihull Moors. Barnet defeated Richard Burton
Looks like I am going to lose my fantasy match up this week!
I need Sterling to get a red card...that would help me!
I want him to have another run in with Gomez
I think the biggest giant killing was Colchester being eliminated by Marine
How sad for Wigan....the won the whole thing only seven years ago!!!
Mane wins a corner off of Ruben Day
I saw...Colchester were flying high.
Losing on pens
Waste of a corner that eludes everyone
Nasty raw day in Manchester
I wish you well with that Sterling red card. Not sure if it will happen, but you never know
I arrive...Bob buggers off!
I am going to start and take it personally
Sad but true about Wigan. Look likely to be in L2 next season along with Bolton. Meanwhile Fawlty Towers look like returning to the Football League for the first time in about eight to nine years
Oh - Gabby J was in there but Alisson stood up well to him.
Nice cross from KDB and Sterling took too long to shoot as it was blocked by Allison
Sorry, mate - Kate was bothering me with questions about this afternoon's chores. Nothing personal.
LOL! There's Bob. Wonder if you had a late night
BEAT PEP
Great motto
I have been watching quite a few of them this weekend on The Binge on Decades Channel.... Dean Martin Roasts
They are still funny.... you were allowed to say funny things back then
I second that.
That motto works for me.
Uh oh - Gabby J levels it!
1-1!
City equalizes
"Fabulous"? It was a nice goal!
Lovely ball in from KDB and turn and finish by Gabby.
It was a few passes... a mis-control and a toe poke
How is that FABULOUS?
GOAL !!! JESUS! CITEH TIE IT UP . NICE PASS FROM KDB AND NI9CE TURN FOR A GREAT FINISH BUT HORRIBLE DFENDING FROM TAA
Then just wide by KDB
I love the Dean Martin Roasts. I'm sure Bob would love to watch some Trump Roasts. That would require it's own channel
Jack Klugman right now
Is Jota the best summer signing in the Premier League?
So far this has been the highest scoring Prem match today
The best Trump roast was Barack Obama at the 2014 White House Correspondents Dinner. He was killing it!
I liked ack Klugman. I could see him with a bullseye and I'm sure Brett Sommers had plenty to say
If Jota wasn't then he's sure up there
Agreed, Bob. Trump hasn't forgiven Obama till this day. Obama had a few more roasts during the campaign?
VAR CHECKING FOR A CITEH PENALTY. HANDBALL BY GOMES ADDAMS OFF THE CROSS FROM KDB?
City wants a VAR
Will it be given?
I don't like how the Leciester pen was given
NO ONE knows the rules...including the refs, VAR and the players
He's going into the screen
Craig Pawson to check the TV screen then will bark a decision
It is a penalty
Bloody hell - there's another ridiculous handball VAR call. The second of the day. Absurd!
PENALTY CITEH. THAT WAS MORE OF A PENAL;TY THAN THE ONE GIVEN TO THE FOXES
KDB to take....
Oh - he's missed it! Wow!
KDB hits it wide!!
KDB TO TAKE. WOW ! SHOT WIDE FROM THE SPOT EVBEN THOUGH ALLISON DOVE THE WRONG WAY
Well - that is justice. Never a penalty.
Justice served?
I have watched a few youtube vids on rugby referees....they are mic'd up, they take no crap from players....wish it was the same in footer
Oh - Liverpool threatening there but Ederson did well to hang on with Jota loitering.
Pool almost retake the lead
Wha was ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT and GENIUS about that break?
These guys go so over the top
OH! Good save by Ederson from TAA then gathers the ball before Jota could shoot the rebound. Ruben Day beaten by Mane off the long ball, but great recovery defending
Agreed about the rugby refs. Footie refs are a joke in comparison because it's tolerated
An LOB blogging trio of stoppage time minutes
Free kick time for Pool....Three First Names...over the top
Arlo has kittens.... it wasn't close
Free kick from TAA about a foot over
Pool missed a chance there
HT.... all square
It's 1-1 at the half. I think the Foxes are still top. They and Pool meet after the break
I am going to be kicked off my computer for Tom's graduate course...I'll just listen to the match on radio
Have a good rest of the day
TTFN
Cheers, Dave. Enjoy the rest of the day. Great chatting.
Matip booked for a clumsy foul on KDB
Enjoying a bit of soup for lunch now, as the second half starts. I'll join in a bit.
Cancelo called for an elbow on compatriot, Jota
Cheers, Bob. Too hot for that here today
Brave keeping from Ederson off a cross from ANdy Robertson then the same from Allisopn off a pass from KDb
Ederson saves a deflected shot from the D then Jota scuffs the rebound straight to Ederson
Jesus! How did Citeh not take the lead ? Great cross from Cancelo and Jesus heads wide with a free header
High and wide by Bobby Chompers as a deflected pass from Mane went to Andy Robertson who laid it off for pearly teeth
Shot from KDB from 25 yards out about a foot over
Shaquiri is on for Bobby Chompers
Now TAA is down with what appears to be a thigh strain. Bad news for Pool and England. He will be out for the internationals for sure
He will be replaced by former Citeh player, James Milner
I'm back for the last half hour as TAA is helped off and replaced by Leeds Academy.
Milner now on for his 750th career appearance. His first came back in November 2002 for Leeds
Welcome back, Bob. Perfect timing
I suppose that anyone but fans of these two sides would be happy with a draw in this one.
Thanks, mate!
Interesting that Shaquiri came on and Jota stayed on. When Jota first moved to Liverpool, I thought they might play similar roles but Jota has really worked his way into the side. If anything, Firmino's place is at risk.
I just heard that Alex Trebek just passed away
I agree that Bobby Chompers's chances don't look good at this time
A draw doesn't appear to help anyone at this time, but over the course of a season it's hard to say
Oh - that's really sad news. I had a feeling that that was imminent. Pancreatic cancer is no joke. I suspect that they're grooming Ken Jennings to take his spot.
I pretty much knew he was on borrowed time too. Sad indeed, but wasn't aware of Ken Jennings.
Well, they just hired him to be a regular feature of the show and I just thought, "there's only one replacement that Jeopardy fans would accept and that's Ken Jennings."
That sounds about right. It's a really sad time
Although Liverpool’s attacking play has been scruffy in the second half, you can never relax against a team with so much individual talent.
After an entertaining first half the second has been sort of disappointing. Will we have a dramatic finale?
Lovely backheeled pass by Mane to Salah but it was well defended.
Phil Foden is being prepared for the final assault.
Now Foden has put his training top back on - what gives?
Phil Foden isn't playing today. Pep seems to have settled for the draw
Into stoppage time. A Barber Shop Quartet of that
Managers appear to be settling for the point now.
Nasty by Kyle Walker on Wijnaldum. Booked and not a red only because it was a one footed challenge
Walker picks up a needless yellow card for a really nasty one. Could easily have been a red there. Not a good match for him today.
Late foul by Ruben Day on Salah. Last chance of the match
Ruben Dias gives up a free kick in a dangerous area. Shaquiri and Hendo over it.
Free kick headed away and it finishes 1-1. A damp squib on a damp day
Comes to nothing - and that's it - the tw sides share the spoils.
Liverpool finish in third and Citeh in 11th now.
The Foxes will be top heading into the break while Pool is in third , a point behind the Foxes and behind the Spuds on goal difference
I'll likely be in and out for the late one, mate, as we've got some more lovely fall afternoon weather to come.
The late one is the Gunners vs Villa . The winner will be sixth unless there's a huge win which would put that team fifth , ahead of Chelsea on goal difference
Enjoy the weather. It's a bit warm today, so I'll be inside.
GOAL !!!! JOHN MCGINN GIVES VILLA THE LEAD 46 SECONDS INTO THE MATCH . VAR CHECKING AS JACK GREALISH COLLECTED A LONG BALL DOWN THE LEFT, CUT INSIDE HOLDING THEN PASSED TO MCGIIN, WHO FINISHED FROM THE EDGE OF TEH BOX. VAR CHECKING FOR OFFSIDE
Ross Barkley offside as his right foot and shin were offside, but was he interfering. VAR still checking
After checking the screen Martin Atkinson has disallowed the goal , feeling that Barkley was interfering with play. Still 0-0
GOAL !!! TREZEGUET GIVES VILLA THE LEAD. IT NOW MAY BE CREDITED AS A SAKA OG. BAKLEY PASSED TO GREALISH TO TARGETT AND IT WAS DIVERTED IN AT THE FAR POST BY ITHER TREZEGUET OR SAKA FOR AN OG
Sorry, Steve. The Gunners have plenty of time to come back
Hot of the press. I'm reading La Cazette and just read that the Gunners should have tied it up because a great cross from Kieran Tierney resulted in a free header then went well over
Villa is one up at the half with the match in the balance. The goal has been credited as a Saka OG
It's not Partey time for Arteta as Ceballos is on his place second half is underway
GOAL !!! VILLA GO TWO UP. LONG DIAGONAL PASS FROM DOUGLAS LUIZ WAS VOLLEYED ACROSS THE BOX BY ROSS BARKLEY AND HEADED IN BY OLLY WATKINS
A minute later Villa nearly go three up as Ceballos clears off the line from Jack Grealish
GOAL !!! OLLY WATKINS AT THE DOUBLE AS GREALISH GOES ON A RUN DOWN THE LEFT THEN A SLIDE RULE PASS FINDS WATKINS WHO SCORES PAST THE STRANDED JAY LENO
Villa in sixth and need two more goals to move up to fifth ahead of Chelsea on goal difference. Gunners now in 11th place
Villa's first change of the match is in the 88th minute as El Gazi is on for Trezeguet
Pepe the Targett of a challenge as he's fouled just outside the Villa box
Into stoppage time. A trio of those minutes
Villa's best start to season since the 1998-99 season
It's over at the EM as Villa thrash the Gunners 0-3. Villa up to sixth behind Chelsea on goal difference while the Gunners are in 11th. Sorry, Steve
That's it for me. Hope everyone will be around to chat Thursday as England hosts Ireland . The match will be on Plus with kickoff at 3 PM.
CHEERS!
