The Undercards and the Big One
Morning, chaps - it's the weekend again. Today's schedule has an intriguing feel to it. The two early matches, featuring champions the champions Liverpool and second place Citeh essentially serve as an undercard for the big one - Everton v. Leeds on NBC at lunchtime. NBC know who the stars of this Premier League are - Bielsa's boys! So, I'm hoping that Liverpool can put Brighton to the sword and Citeh can wallop Burnley before I sit down to enjoy the big one. Join me for all of it.

Liverpool will go top of the Premier League if they avoid defeat. It might only be for 24 hours; it might be for the rest of the season. Although they have had a slightly odd start to this very odd season, there have been enough signs that Liverpool are still the best team in England by a fair distance.
The team news out of Anfield this morning:
Brighton (3-4-2-1) Ryan; White, Dunk, Webster; Veltman, Bissouma, Gross, March; Connolly, Welbeck; Maupay.
Substitutes: Steele, Burn, Lallana, Alzate, Molumby, Trossard, Jahanbakhsh.
Liverpool (4-2-3-1) Alisson; N Williams, Phillips, Fabinho, Robertson; Milner, Wijnaldum; Minamino, Firmino, Jota; Salah.
Substitutes: Adrian, Tsimikas, R Williams, Henderson, Jones, Mane, Origi.
Referee Stuart Attwell.
Good morning, Bob. Here to join you for the Prem matches
Back with a lovely cuppa for kick off now.
Morning, David - how was your Thanksgiving?
Nice tribute to Maradona now.
Now down to business - as I said earlier, a Liverpool would suit me to a tee here. I'm just hoping to put some more distance between the bottom half a dozen clubs and my beloved Leeds.
They're off from the AMEX
Oh - Jota streaked away for the first time and should have put Salah in for a first goal - promising signs!
Thanksgiving went very well, thank you for asking. How about you?
Liverpool look like they mean business after that limp outing at Anfield against Atalanta in the CL midweek.
Then Salah Shot wide off a Fab long ball from the back
Yeah - it was a nice, quiet one. We'd done our neighbors across the way a big favor recently and they repaid the favor with an order from Omaha steaks. So we had a lovely gourmet meal for two, without the need for a lot of prep.
Jota wins another corner - lots of Liverpool pressure early doors and Brighton look really rattled.
Jota with a shot blocked for a corner as the Seagulls have been under the cosh
That's great . We ordered a Thanksgiving meal from a local college student, so the only thing we had to cook was the veggies.
Oh - Brighton have a huge chance on the break but Connolly puts it wide!
Great idea, mate.
OH! The Seagulls nearly scored on their first attack of the match as Pool were caught on the counter and Connolly shot wide wide with just Allison to beat
There was a Prem match yesterday as Toon won 0-2 at Palace with both goals scored late on in the match. In the Championship the Bees defeated QPR 2-1 and are currently in fifth place
IN a playoff six pointer in L1 it finished Fleetwood Mac 1 Black Cats 1. Mac in 6th and Black Cats in 7th place
Brighton are fairly transparent about what they're trying to do here. Leicester is the template. Hang deep and try to launch the quick guys up front on the break.
I saw that - not happy with the result - I was hoping to keep Brucie's Newcastle under Leeds.
Ben White called for obstruction on Jota on a pool break
Always sad to see Ben White in Brighton colors - he was a giant for us last season.
Agreed about the Seagulls. As long as the Cottagers and Burnley lose and the Baggies vs Evil Blades finishes a draw then that should be considered a successful weekend of results
Lallana wins a corner off of old mate, Andy Robertson
Corner from March in November headed away
I still think Klopp is too conservative in games like this. He doesn't need two defensive middies in Milner and Winnie. I would have really liked to have seen a Shaquiri in there.
Bloody hell - Brighton have a penalty!
PENALTY SEAGULLS . AARON CONNOLLY TRIPPED BY NECO WILLIAMS
Really clumsy there from Neco Williams on Connolly, who has looked a threat up front.
Neil Maupay to take.
YIKES HE'S SHOT IT WIDE. STILL 0-0
Neil Maupay steps up....
Oh - he's missed! And weirdly no response from the crowd (oh yeah)....
Agreed about Ben White. He would surely be starting for Leeds this season
For all of Liverpool's early dominance, Brighton could be 2-0 up!
Next weekend there may be some response, but I don't know which stadiums will have fans and which won't
Now Neil Maupay down injured. It's been a horrible past couple of minutes for him
Agreed. The Seagulls have had the two best chances of the match
Wow - now Maupay has gone off for an early bath!
Maupay's afternoon is done and he's off in the tunnel.
In the cup, The Solihull Moors take the lead at Morecambe and None Too Wise
Trossard on for the injured Maupay
One of the only plusses to not traveling this Christmas is that I'll be able to enjoy more of the footer action. It was always difficult and awkward to say to Kate's family, "well, I'm going to need to watch six hours of matches and blog today." LOL!
Hey Boys
Not sure how much I will be around today.
I will definitely be here for the Goodison Park match
I am definitely not in the Liverpool corner today....both their teams!
The next game is going to be so boring!!
City will pass and pass and score
Good morning, Dave. Hope you had a great Thanksgiving
Oh - Trossard, the sub, nearly found the corner there. Liverpool after that bright start have lost all of their spark.
Brighton don't deserve to be as low as they are
And now they fall behind!
GOAL! Salah runs through on a long ball and puts Liverpool into the lead!
0-1!
GOAL !!! SALAH GIVES POOL THE LEAD SECONDS AFTER TYHE SEAGULLS MISSED A GREAT CHANCE. BOBBY CHPOMPERS PLAYED A LONG BALL AND SALAH SCORED PAST THE STRANDED MATTY RYAN. VAR CHECKING FOR OFFSIDE
Morning, Dave - great to have you on board for as long as you can be here.
VAR check now - looks as if Salah is offside - the goal is struck off!
It's disallowed because Salah was millimeters offside. Still 0-0
VAR checking
These type of decisions drives me nuts!!
He had no unfair advantage!!
Again, you never know when the ball was actually passed!
Agreed, Bob. There will be plenty of footie to enjoy during the holiday period for sure
Klopp is compelling again....why is he so annoyed with everything these days!!
HE WON THE TITLE!
I agree,, Dave. We don't want Pool to win, but the goal should have stood .
I agree with you, Dave - should have been given.
Had a lovely Thanksgiving.... Kathy outdid her self...again
Dave, I know you will be in and out, but just letting you know that Pompey vs King's Lynn is on Plus today
Oh - Welbeck burst through the porous Liverpool defense and shot well wide.
WOW , Dave! I bet it was a great meal.
Would either of you have Danny back at OT?
For all of the chances, neither side has had a shot on target yet!
Who would have thought this? The Solihull Moors are the only team to score today in the top two divisions or the cup
Great to hear, Dave - I loved the picture of the whole family round the table.
Definitely not. Wellie is injury prone and when fit shows the two Dave's and Steve why he's no longer with United or the Gunners
When is the draw for the 3rd round of the Cup? I'm hoping to get a lower league opponent for a change this year. Sick of playing the likes of Arsenal, United and Spurs.
I did too. Great picture
Minnie tries a poke from distance. Didn't trouble Matty Ryan.
I think the draw is on Monday at 2 PM EST.
Minnie Minnow fishing for a goal as he has a long range shot straight at Matty Ryan
Graham Potter must be disappointed that his side isn't ahead.
Nice - I'll definitely be following that one.
I'm fully remote now at work until February 3rd, so I should be able to watch a bit more stuff.
This is the only match on the Cock today
Bob, have all the students gone home for the semester?
WOW! Working out of the house? Glad you will be around more often for the chats
Thanks...I hope you didn't mind me sending that pic!
Melanie came down Tuesday afternoon and went back yesterday afternoon
A pair of stoppage time minutes
I enjoyed the picture, Dave.
I asked my question before I read your comment about remote learning!
Veltman booked for a nasty challenge
I will tune in Pompey vs Kings Lynn match on Plus
It's 0-0 at the half at the AMEX where the Seagulls should really be ahead
Klopp complaining again!
Half time
That's half time then. Surprisingly, it's still 0-0, despite all of the chances. Hoping for some goals for Liverpool in the second half.
He is complaining about fixtures
These guys need to understand everything is off kilter this season.... just go with the flow!
We know players are playing a lot but being paid mega bucks for it!
They are an entertainment for people being told to stay home!
The TV guys pay BILLIONS....if you don't want to play games at 12:30 in the afternoon....give some money back
Too much Tim Howard these days!
Beck says.... definitely offside..... again....you never know!!!
Hendo on for Wiliams
Milner back to full back
The second half is underway as Hendo is on for Neco Williams
The second half is starting up now, with Hendo on for penalty kid Neco Williams.
Dave, I agree 100% with your comment At 8:23
Is the schedule really that much more condensed this season? The big teams have always played weekend and midweek. I don't get the whining.
In the Cup the Gils took the lead vs Exeter , who tied it up later on
Exeter has come from behind to lead 1-2 a the Gils
As far as I know they're only three matches behind in the Prem and those will be made up when the cup replays would have normally been played. I think they like to complain
As it stands, Liverpool are top of the pops, while Brighton have nudged a points closer to my beloved Leeds United. Don't like it.
I didn't like OGS complaining having to play at Goodison but at least we had to play in Turkey and then go to Everton.... Liverpool played at home on Wednesday then go to Brighton!
These guys lay on BEDS in their planes!
Do any of the players complain? They would rather play then practice!!
These teams play and entire season....then fly off to the Emirates to play games... .for MONEY!!
They want the money and the cushy life
There will be plenty of fixture congestion in two seasons when the World Cup is being played. There will likely be even more complaining if that's possible
I think the key matches for Bob are Citeh vs Burnley today , the Baggies vs Evil Blades late today , and the Foxes vs the Cottagers on Monday
Cross it Danny!!!
Wellie goes on a solo run, but not Wellie done as he shoots tamely at Allison
Oh - nice run from Welly but his shot was straight at Alisson in the end.
I think this is the only match on the Cock the entire weekend. Lovely if that's true
Not Welly done at all, mate. LOL!
If this finishes a draw then the winner of Little Joe vs Frankie goes top tomorrow
Cheers, Bob. I guess you will be cheering for Pep at ten AM
Definitely cheering for Pep and Citeh.
Morecambe and Wise ties it up vs the Solihull Moors while Exter leads 1-3 at the Gils
Mane is warming up now - they need a goal from him, for sure.
I know it doesn't matter but if the scores stay the same....United will be eight points behind Liverpool but with TWO games in hand
The Reading Railroad takes the lead vs Bristol City in a promotion six pointer. That's not idle gossip
Alas...Liverpool take the lead
Jota scores again!
GOAL !!!JOTA GIVES POOL THE LEAD
GOAL! Jota finally breaks the deadlock!
Nice run and pass from, Andy Robertson then he passes to Salah who finds Jota ,w ho scores with a great finish from the edge of the box
Lamela about to come on against his old club.... of course....he's not fully dressed yet
Hate that crap too
If this score holds then Pool will finish the weekend top unless Little Joe defeats Frankie tomorrow
Get the ball across the box!!
Seagulls want a pen.... it was offside anyway
Brighton burst through into the area and appeal for a handball on Fab. Offside called instead.
Lallana on for Connolly against his old mates
I want Spurs to win the league instead of Liverpool or Chelsea or City
Might well have been a penalty there if it hadn't been offside.
Lallana on against his old side. Connolly off and shaking his head at being subbed.
I know that is unpopular with all the Gunner ties on LOB
I'd take a draw in that one - I don't like either side.
The Reading Railroad and Bristol City swap positions as The Railroaders are now third, behind the Cherries on goal difference and a point behind the Canaries
Now it's Mo Salah who's arsed off about having been subbed. He's just recovered from COVID - what's he playing at?
Mane coming on for Salah.... Salah is pissed
Klopp is using the changes as more excuses for the fixtures!
See....the players want to play!! It is only the managers that complain
Mane OH Mane . Salah throws a fit at being substituted
I'm not anti-Spurs per se, as Steve is. I just don't think they're that special and I hate Mourinho.
They're a bit like Leicester. They're solid at the back and then have to killers up front in Kane and Son. Otherwise, they're really ordinary. Not fit to be champions.
Morecambe and Wise have come from behind to take a 2-1 lead vs the Solihull Moors in the Cup
If the managers complain then in their minds they have excuses if results don't go their way
So much complaining.... don't qualify for Europe then!!
They blew it against Atalanta on Wednesday.. win that and you they were thru.....not yet because he had to make a point and rest players
I'm not so certain that Spurs will be challenging for the title in the Spring. Not too fond of Frankie and Chelsea , but not happy that Little Joe gave up on United
Agreed. Now Pool may be playing in the EL in the Spring
Bobby Chompers has a shot with plenty of bite as it's blocked for a corner
I think they will be ok because they host Ajax...but then play Midtjyland!
Lallana.... off sharpish !
That didn't last long!
WOW! The sub is subbed . Lallana lasted only five minutes as he's replaced by Jahankbash on the final roll of the dice for Graham Harry Potter
Wellie on the ground after a knock of heads
Milner down hurt....looks like a hammy! I just picked him up on my fantasy team!
Now Wellie down, holding his head. The Seagulls cannot afford to lose more players as they've made all three substitutions
Desmond at Morecambe
Agreed, Dave. If Pool defeat Ajax then I think they are through to the knockout stages. Klopp may want to take that match more seriously than he did a few days ago
Curtis Jones on for Milner
More ammo for Klopp...Milner hurt.... You all know what he is going to say after the match
There are injuries.... everyone has injuries!
Again...they want five subs....unfair if you have five internationals to bring on.
If they change it to five.... I would say two of the subs would have to be academy players
Decent free kick from March in November saved by Allison
I agree. No need for five subs. I think that's a great idea , Dave
Bristol City ties it up at the Mad Stad. That's not idle gossip
United in Europe... on top with 9 points and a point at home to PSG would qualify us. We really blew it in Turkey but even if we had won that match and had 12 points... we still would not have qualified yet!! Lose to PSG and RB....three teams would be on 12
I guess I will be here for this whole match!!
Nathaniel Phillips down for Pool. Looks like he will be able to continue
Klopp has only one change left. Wish he had only one excuse left
United is in a really tough group. Hope that loss in Turkey doesn't cost them
Again... I think that loss doesn't make much of a difference
They need a point from the other big two.
The Reading Railroad now leads Bristol City 2-1 and that's not idle gossip
Decent cross.... gotta get your head on it at the front post
I'm confident United can get a point somewhere, but it's not guaranteed.
He got all ball.... what is the rule!!!
He got a yellow!!!
Ben White booked for a fair tackle on Jota.
And of course... it results in a goal!!
Never a foul
GOAL !!! MANE HEADS IN THE FRE EKICK FROM, ANDY ROBERTSON TO PUT POOL TWO UP FROPM A FREE KICK THAT NEVER SHOULD HAVE BEEN
Nope...he's offside!
That was more of an offside that I agree with...not the other one
No goal. It's been disallowed for offside. The free kick never should have been awarded
Wahay! I'm just back with my brekkies to see Mane score a second.
No - it's chalked off. Another offside call.
I really don't think you have anything to worry about ....there is Fulham, West Barcode, Sheff U and Burnley!!
Disgusted you are rooting for Pool!
Wellie almost in behind.... not a good move after he got possession
Wellie pressures young Phillips into a Seagulls corner
Late corner chance for Brighton.
Front post corner cleared
I mentioned those four teams to Bob. Two of them play each other in the late match today
Trossaud.... whiff!
5 added minutes... why don't the manager complain that they have to play more than 90 minutes!!
Something has to be done about the clock!! It is getting ridiculous
Newport take lead vs Scholsey's Salford
A quintet of stoppage time minutes. That needs to be cut down
That will in crease due to the VAR check. Will the Seagulls be awarded a spot kick?
Liverpool aren't a threat to Leeds' survival.
VAR looking at penalty? This is ridiculous stuff!
He kicked the ball...who cares he hits Welbeck!
If this is given... I give up!
It is a penalty!!
Unbelievable!!
HE KICKED THE BALL!
This could well be a penalty - wow!
PENALTY SEAGULLS AS ANDY ROEBRTSON CALLED FOR A TRIP ON WELLIE
More Klopp ammo.
Rubbish penalty call but it's a lifeline for the Seagulls.
Brighton have been hurt with injury time pens.... well actually AFTER injury time against United
Up he comes.....Gross scores
Klopp going to be sarcastic
Pascal Gross to step up to save Brighton here...
Scores!
1-1!
GOAL !!! 1-1 AS GROSS ENDS ALLISON THE WRONG WAY FROM THE SPOT
I love Pool dropping points!
Klopp has been given many pens with Salah crap
Will Klopp be talking about gross incompetence from the ref?
I think Brighton deserve this
The Reading Railroad now leads Bristol City 3-1, which is not idle gossip
This VAR crap is completely ruining the game
Another goal Mad Stad.... Reading extend their lead
I agree. I think a draw is a fair esult
again...we gone passed the five because of VAR
At least stop the clock for VAR!
I still don't think it was a penalty at all!!
Corner to Brighton
Jahankbash with a shot deflected for a late Seagulls corner
Last second header over the top.... and that is it
Cue Jurgen Whine
Probably a fair result given the run of play but Liverpool should have had at least two goals if not three.
