Lakenheath Old Boys

We are all former students at Lakenheath High School and other public schools in East Anglia. We were in school in the 70s and 80s and drank deeply from the well of British culture of those decades - the pints, the telly, and of course the footie!

Sunday in the Dropzone

Morning, boys! We've got a string of matches featuring the cellar-dwellers today, and I'm hoping that all four lose. I decided to have a lie-in during the first half of the early one, so I'm joining as Soton have taken a lovely 2-0 lead against bottom of the table Sheffield United. I'd like to see some more. That's followed by Fulham hosting champions Liverpool who should hit them for six or more. The dangerous one is Burnley taking on out of sorts Arsenal. I'm hoping the Gunners get back on track today with a nice solid win at the Emirates. Then Leicester need to take care of Brighton and my day will be complete. Join me for any and all of this schadenfreude moment.

Hi Bob

I will be here and there today

Nothing really excites me on today's slate

I was watching some of the MLS Final last night... the game was fast and exciting.
It was like how the Premier League used to be!

No passing for possession
No ALWAYS playing it out of the back.
No sideways and backwards passing

Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Morning, Dave - I agree. The matches aren't great today but they are mostly on the telly. And I'm really enjoying the Blades getting beaten up here.

8:32 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Yeah - I caught a bit as well around my Saturday night shopping routine. Agreed - it was a good match. Interestingly, my New England Revolution team nearly made the final - we were beaten by the eventual winners Columbus in the semis (Conference Final, as they call it).

I have a buddy who is a Union fan....he wasn't happy with the Revs!!
He grew up in Philly. I actually went down there quite a fews ago with him to see Union play Everton

8:35 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Ah - Danny Ings should have added a third goal there. The Blades are only a goal better - but five points worse off than - on GD than WBA now.

8:36 AM

Bale not even on the bench today

What is Jose doing? Why bring him in?

8:37 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Southampton have scored two goals in all six of their home games!

Wish my lot would do that! Seven games THREE goals!

8:38 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Lovely! Redmond adds a third! The Blades put to the sword.

Midweek...
Gunners host these Saints
Leeds host the Magpies
The top two play at Anfield

Blades have a chance of a win....they host United! Wait... maybe not...it's not at Old Trafford!

Saints ruin their two goals a game streak.... Three nil

8:40 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

I get the sense that Bale isn't fit enough to play the full 90 minutes.

8:41 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

I need Kane to get a lot of points today for fantasy purposes

8:41 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

We need a win against Newcastle to restore the confidence.

8:41 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

That would suit me, too. Let's have a hat-trick 'Arry!

8:42 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

How can he not be? He's been there for months. He mostly plays 90 in the EL

I think it Jose being Jose

8:42 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

I know the hate for Spurs on LOB for obvious reasons but I don't mind them

I would take them winning the league over Liverpool and City.... but there is BLOODY JOSE!

8:43 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Well, the EL doesn't have the furious pace of the PL. Jose likes to play at least two defensive middies with only Kane and Son as attacking options. Bale would have to come in at the expense of one of those.

8:44 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

I don't have the blind hatred that Steve has for obvious reasons. I just don't like Jose and I don't like the way they play.

8:45 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Did you see how your Gators lost last night against LSU?

8:47 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Saints up to third
Ollie happy with a nil niller and being in 8th!
He said it was their best performance vs City!
I am surprised that he is like this. He should know how United should play. He is not an outsider

8:49 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Will United make hard work of the Blades on Thursday?
Will OGS play with two defensive middies?
Will United fall behind AGAIN?

8:53 AM

Let's hope not - I hope United hit these mugs for ten!

Nice easy win here for the Saints.

8:53 AM

Oh, no - I don't follow college football. Is that the end of their season?

8:53 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Can't believe United are only 4 points off the top... of course...SEVEN teams to overtake

8:54 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

They stopped LSU on third down with a tackle. The guys shoe came off... the Gator defender decides to throw the shoe 15 yards down he field... FLAG, PENALTY.... LSU hit a game winning field goal

What a numpty

8:56 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

That does sound like the sort of thing that would make my Gator friends' heads explode.

They will keep the Blades in the match the whole game

I am so pissed off with United!!!!

9:19 AM

9:19 AM

9:20 AM

Talking about infection rates. On Friday fourteen county employees tested positive. Nothing like setting a great example

9:20 AM

Yes it is

9:21 AM

9:21 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Kate is displeased by the kits here. She thinks that the Spurs kits with the grey pattern under the white make it look like the players are really sweaty and thinks that the Palace players look like video game characters.

Blogger United We Stand said...

Another movie I watch is It's A Wonderful Life

Never heard of it before I came stateside. Everyone saying about it being a great Christmas movie.... it is great to watch then but in my book....it is not really a Christmas movie!

2/3 of the movie has nothing to do with the Christmas! The only reason it is associated with Christmas is that Uncle Billy loses the money on Christmas Eve!
He could have lost the money on May 23rd and the plot of movie could have been exactly the same!

Still love the movie

9:38 AM

GOAL!!!
KANE TAKE A POP.... one nil Spurs
Just what I needed

9:38 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Oh my! Kane has a go and it completely deceives the keeper. 0-1 Spuds!

Blogger United We Stand said...

Keeper should have done better there

9:39 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

GOAL!!! HARRY KANE AND ABEL; TO GIVE SPURS THE LEAD WITH A LONG RANGE SHOT THAT GUAITA SHOULD HAVE SAVED

9:39 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

No excuses for Guaita - I don't know why he's moving to his right. It means that he's completely wrong-footed for the shot and can't recover.

9:39 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Nice passing routine as Regulon passed to Cissy to Number One Son to Kane

9:40 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Regulon down for Spurs. I don't think it was that horrible a challenge

9:40 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

This bloke is saying what a great shot it was... I don't think it moved that much at all!

9:41 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

That keeps Palace rooted in 13th. Love it.

9:42 AM

Those movies are all good choices. Some decent Christmas movies are part of a series. There's Home Alone, Ernest, and National Lampoon.

9:42 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

It was a decent shot, but not great keeping

9:43 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Spurs can now sit back and Palace have a hard time breaking down defenses for the most part

I'm sure nobody wants Clark Griswald as part of their Christmas celebrations

9:44 AM

Into the wall by Eze

9:46 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Eze appears to be chewing gum - is that allowed?

9:46 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

I should get a point for a block from Kane there

9:46 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

As long as he brought enough for everyone

Kate thinks that Harry Kane must have a deviated septum, as he always plays with his mouth gaping open. Might need some surgery on the schnoz.

9:49 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Guaita saved at the feet of Steve Berg-Wne off a slide rule pass from Harry Kane then the rebound blocked by Guaita from N'Dummy for a corner. The corner went out for another. Next corner cleared
