Up Early for the Good Stuff
Morning, boys! I'm up early and looking forward to another big day in the Premier League. It all starts with the champions on the road at Selhurst Park. I'll take a Liverpool win in that one. Next up is Soton hosting Citeh. I'll take a Citeh win in that one to knock the Saints off their perch. The most intriguing one of the day is Everton v. Arsenal at 12:30pm on NBC. I'd love to see Arsenal get back on track for the Gooner. At the end of the day, we've got Newcastle v. Fulham. A draw is probably the best result there. Join me for all the action, won't you?

In most cases, COVID football has reduced or even obliterated home advantage. Liverpool are one of the exceptions. Twenty-one of their 28 points this season have been won at Anfield: they’ve won seven out of seven, as compared to one in six away from home. Only four teams have picked up fewer points on their travels, and Liverpool’s one win, at Chelsea, was three months ago. Today’s trip to Crystal Palace is their latest chance to sort their away form out.
The team news out of South London:
Crystal Palace (4-4-2) Guaita; Clyne, Kouyate, Cahill, van Aanholt; Schlupp, Milivojevic, McArthur, Eze; Zaha, Ayew.
Substitutes: Butland, Ward, Tomkins, Dann, Mitchell, Townsend, McCarthy, Riedewald, Batshuayi.
Liverpool (4-3-3) Alisson; Alexander-Arnold, Matip, Fabinho, Robertson; Wijnaldum, Henderson, Keita; Minamino, Firmino, Mane.
Substitutes: Adrian, Kelleher, R Williams, Phillips, N Williams, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Jones, Salah, Origi.
Referee Jon Moss.
Liverpool clearly resting a few for the League Cup endeavors in mid-week. Minamino, for example, comes in for Mo Salah.
And we're away at Selhurst Park. Palace start in 12th, on 18 points from 13 matches. Liverpool, in contrast, are top and can go 6 points clear of Spurs in second with a win today.
GOAL! What a start for the Reds! Minamino earns his rare start with a strike into the left corner.
0-1 Liverpool!
Mo Salah looks a bit bemused by all of it in the stands.
I'd take another goal right about now. Palace are now on 0 GD, while Leeds are on -2 GD, even after that goal spree against Newcastle in mid-week. I'd like to reduce that Palace advantage as much as possible.
Ayew wins a cheap free kick and now Palace can swing a free kick into the Liverpool box.
Good morning Bob. I'm in the Hill Country for a weekend getaway
I'm in a trailer that belongs to my sister in law and her boyfriend. I will comment sparingly because I'm typing from my phone
Oh - Ayew was in there but instead of going for goal he tried to pick out Zaha in the middle. Played it behind him!
Morning, David - great to hear from you today!
No picture on my profile because I'm logged into my phone gmail instead of my LOB gmail
Thank you Bob.I saw the goal.Great to be board with everyone
Liverpool have dropped off noticeably since the goal, allowing Palace to come on to them. Cynical stuff from Klopp - they're better than that.
Yeah - those shenanigans happen to me when I'm not posting from my beloved laptop.
Oh - Minnie was nearly in for his brace there but Clyne, the former Red, mopped up.
Oh - Hendo had the chance to play Mane in but the pass had too much on it.
Half an hour in and I'm reasonably happy with the 0-1 scoreline. It would be nice to see another Liverpool goal before the interval.
Someone needs to get Roy Hodgson a wool topcoat to complete his look. He's quite smart underneath the jacket but the blue and red wind cheater ruins the whole affect.
Oh - that's a lovely goal from Sadio Mane!
0-2 Reds!
Great pass in from Bobby Chompers but Mane had to still turn smartly and shoot into the bottom left corner.
MANE OH MANE! WHAT A FINISH OFF APASS FROM BOBBY CHOMPERS TO PUT POOL TWO UP
Bit of a coming together there between TAA and Schlupp. No cards dealt.
GOAL! Bobby Chompers adds a third goal on the break. Liverpool are rampant here!
0-3!
Wonderful. Palace are now level with us on GD at -2.
GOAL! WHAT A BREAK LED OFF ANDY ROBERTSON THEN PASSED TO BOBBY CHOMPERS WHO SCORED WITH A SUPERB FINISH
Nat Coyne fouls Minnie Minnow in the D
Oh - nearly a penalty given away. VAR is going to check it for both offside, a penalty and perhaps even a red card for Clyne.
Just a free kick and a yellow for Clyne.
TAA over this one - I'd love to see it fizz right in. Nope - it goes too high.
But there's the half-time whistle. I'm more than rewarded by that 0-3 scoreline. It's what I woke up early to see. The Reds are totally in charge here.
Pool three up at the half thanks to great finishing despite Palace doing most of the attacking
Second half starting up again now.
0-4 Liverpool - a rocket from Henderson!
This scoreline does seem unfair to Palace, as they've been in this one. But Liverpool have been absolutely clinical in finishing their chances today.
GOAL!!!WHAT A FINISH FROM HENDO JUST OUTSIDE THE BOX THAT CAME FROM NICE ONE TOUCH PASSING.MINNIE MINNOW PASSED BACK TO MANE WHO PLAYED A GREAT DIAGONAL TO TAA WHO PASSED BACK TO HENDO TO PUT POOL UP BY A BARBER SHOP QUARTET
Agreed. Pool have taken their chances clinically while Palace have not
Palace are now down to -3 GD, exactly what I'd hoped. If we can get any kind of result against you lot tomorrow, we'll go 12th.
Oh - Mane nearly with a fifth there!
And that's Mane's last involvement. He's not best pleased to be trudging off - chattering to himself. Salah comes on.
Just wide by Mane off a pass from Andy Robertson that started with the Pool high press. Mane off for Salah
Leeds could very well get that result
Oh - now it's Minnie in there. Should have gone to his left but chose the near post and went well wide.
Nice run and through ball from Keita to Minnie Minnow who shoots wide with just Guaita to beat
Liverpool just controlling possession at this point. They have no need to push for a fifth.
GOAL! Bobby Chompers gets his brace!
0-5!
This morning just gets better and better.
Salah did well to round Guaita off a nice through ball to put Pool five up
Sorry BOBBY CHOMPERS scored off the nice through ball from Salah
GOAL! I'm quite surprised that Klopp risked Mo Salah off the bench, but he's come on and scored@! Easy header.
0-6!
Palace now down to -5 GD. Lovely!
GOAL! MATIP HEADED ON A CORNER THAT WAS HEADED IN BY SALAH OFF THE FINGER TIPS OF GUAITA TO PUT POOL HALF A DOZEN UP.
GOAL! POOL SO THIRSTY THAT THEY GO SEVEN UP WITH A GREAT CURLING FINISH FROM SALAH OFF A PASS FROM THE OX.
This will be Palace's worst home defeat in club history. They did lose9-0 at Anfield in the 1989-90 season
A minute of stoppage time showing Palace mercy
It's over as Pool have thrashed Palace 0-7 at Selhurst Park
Wow - that's it. a thumping 0-7 win. That sets down a marker for this weekend.
Palace's worst home defeat in club history while Pool have their joint largest away win tying a club record set in 1896
The Reds are also now four goals clear of Spurs in second, with Spurs facing a tricky away fixture at Leicester tomorrow.
Next up is an intriguing affair agaisnt high flying Soton against Citeh. Here are the teams:
Southampton: McCarthy, Walker-Peters, Bednarek, Vestergaard, Bertrand, Walcott, Ward-Prowse, Romeu, Djenepo, Ings, Adams. Subs: Stephens, Long, Redmond, Armstrong, Salisu, Tella, Diallo, N’Lundulu, Forster.
Man City: Ederson, Walker, Stones, Dias, Joao Cancelo, Gundogan, Rodri, Bernardo Silva, De Bruyne, Sterling, Torres. Subs: Ake, Aguero, Zinchenko, Mendy, Fernandinho, Mahrez, Carson, Foden, Nmecha.
Referee: Mike Dean.
I'm just back from a refreshing shower to see Raheem Sterling finish off yet another assist from KDB. That's him up to 7 assists now. Sterling is on four goals for the season - not his usual tally.
0-1 Citeh!
Upon reflection of the table, a draw might be the better result for my Leeds boys. It would knock Soton down a peg or two but keep Citeh from leaping up the table.
Oh - Che Adams should have equalized there, after a sustained period of pressure.
Mike Dean is back in business, dishing out the yellow cards today.
I am back just at the half time whistle blows
Half-time then - Citeh go in 0-1 up over the upstarts Soton through that Sterling goal. I would definitely fancy a James Ward-Prowse free kick goal in the second half.
Morning, UWS - how's your weekend going?
In the Championship, Norwich have racked up another win. They're fairly romping it this season. Bournemouth are being held 0-0 at lowly Luton. Brentford are cruising it 3-0 over Reading. and Huddersfield are 2-0 up on Watford.
Hey Bob
Busy start... may have to go back to the store soon!!
Teams out at St Marys
Oh when the Saints.....
Teams back on for the second half.
We are off
I'm listening to 5Live as well... I have been all morning
It is actually a little behind the telly
They are cutting off for the Prime Minister soon for a presser about some new strain!
What's your favorite score in this one?
I read about that in the Guardian this morning - not a good sign!
Oh - sweeping move from Citeh but Bernie Sanders scuffed his final effort.
A draw or Saints win
Citeh are now up to fifth on 23 points, just a point behind Soton. I'd prefer a draw, which wold leave Citeh in 9th and would move Soton temporarily up to 3rd.
Cometh the hour, cometh the changes. Redmond on for Djnepo.
Oh - Ederson with a poor clearance but Redmond can't take advantage. Shame.
Oh - Bertrand so close to connecting with that cross.
Saints fans getting a bit rowdy now.
Citeh have noticeably taken their foot off the gas. In seasons past, they'd have gone on to score four or five goals. They're not nearly the side that they once were.
Oh - Citeh nearly capitalized on a bad mistake in midfield. KDB with a weak finish.
Mahrez coming on now for the last twenty minutes. Torres off. Foden being prepared as well.
Would love to see a late equalizer for the Saints here.
Oh - McCarthy saves really well from Gundogan.
Sorry I have been so in and out... mostly out
I should be here for the whole Eveton/Arsenal match
Will you?
Sorry, I'll probably be in and out for that one. We're delivering our Christmas treats to the neighbors today.
Ederson picks up a needless yellow card for time wasting. Cynical.
Last change for the Saints now - Che Adams coming off
Kyle Walker also making way - Ake coming on for him.
Late free kick for Citeh here. I'll bet they play it short.
Come on, the Saints!
I don't know how much I will be there too... very busy
I guess we can just save it all for tomorrow
I am off
TTFN
Oh - KDB finds Mahrez with a brilliant pass and the Algerian should have wrapped up the points. Blasted over instead.
I'll definitely be around tomorrow, mate!
And another miss from Mahrez!
Poor from KDB here - they shouldn't have to corner flag it if they're true title contenders.
That's it - Citeh end up with the three points. They're up to fifth. Soton stay in fourth for the time being.
Next up - the marquee match of the day between Everton and Arsenal on NBC. Here's the team news:
Everton (4-2-3-1) Pickford; Holgate, Mina, Keane, Godfrey; Doucoure, Davies; Iwobi, Sigurdsson, Richarlison; Calvert-Lewin.
Substitutes: Olsen, Lossl, Kenny, Nkounkou, Coleman, Branthwaite, Tosun, Bernard, Gordon.
Arsenal (4-3-3) Leno; Maitland-Niles, Holding, David Luiz, Tierney; Ceballos, Elneny, Saka; Pepe, Nketiah, Willian.
Substitutes: Runarsson, Bellerin, Cedric, Mustafi, Kolasinac, Willock, Smith Rowe, Lacazette, Martinelli.
Referee Andre Marriner.
Back for the late one.The Toffees move up to second with a win.Gunners will move ahead of Leeds if they win by more than three goals
Welcome back, David - I'm just back from a delicious lunch of leftover beef stew, soda bread and apple.
I'm really hoping that Arsenal can get a result for the Gooner.
Not a good sign that Elneny has already gone into the book after 16 minutes. Arsenal have had seven sent off in the first 13 matches.
Bugger! It looks like a Holding o.g. that puts Everton in the lead.
GOAL!!! CALVERT-LEWIN HEADS THE TOFFEES INTO THE LEAD. BALL PLAYED WIDE RIGHT TO IWOBI AND HIS CROSS WAS WELL HEADED IN
The header from DCL created the danger but it was going wide so he can't really claim it. Holding's touch seemed crucial.
Toffees up to second place . Spurs or the Foxes will move ahead of them tomorrow
Oh - Eddie had a big chance there but screwed it wide. Should have at least tested Pickers there.
I didn't have a good view, so it is definitely an OG. The Gunners definitely not Holding on
Yeah - and Arsenal continue their poor run. They're in 15th on 14 points and -6 GD. I don't think they're realistic relegation strugglers but this is worrying for them.
Yes! Penalty to the Arsenal! Maitland-Niles went to ground under Davies' challenge.
Pepe to take now....
Lovely - easy peasy. 1-1!
Now Tierney goes into the book - not a good sign for the Arsenal to have two key defensive players in the book already.
Siggy curls the free kick into the wall.
Ceballos with some naughty behavior there. Arsenal can ill afford to have another player sent off.
Oh - good shot from DCL but Leno was equal to it.
Oh dear - Everton score again. Mina at the near post with a simple header.
2-1 Toffees!
That was the perfect time for Everton to score and a terrible time for Arsenal to concede.
The sides go in 2-1.
Back for the second half now. Hoping that Arsenal can pull out at least a draw.
I'm off to run some Christmas treats by the neighbors at the hour mark of this match.
Back at stoppage time. Everton still leading 2-1.
Oh - Maitland-Niles fizzes a cross over but no one is following in.
Last ditch save by Pickers there from Saka. Arsenal really pouring it on now.
That's it - Everton hold on for a narrow 2-1 win that lifts them to second behind their Merseyside rivals.
Arsenal in a world of hurt, sadly.
That's it for me today - I'll be largely in and out during the late one, where I'm hoping to see a draw between Newcastle and Fulham.
Team news for the late one:
Newcastle (4-4-2): Darlow; Yedlin, Fernández, Clark, Dummett; Almíron, Sean Longstaff, Shelvey, Ritchie; Wilson, Joelinton.
Subs: Carroll, Gayle, Hayden, Lewis, Hendrick, Krafth, Fraser, Murphy, Gillespie.
Fulham (4-2-3-1): Areola; Aina, Andersen, Adarabioyo, Robinson; Zambo Anguissa, Lemina; Ivan Cavaleiro, Cairney, Lookman; Mitrovic.
Subs: Hector, Odoi, Rodak, Ream, Reid, Loftus-Cheek, Reed, Bryan, Kamara.
Referee: Graham Scott (Oxfordshire)
Newcastle start this one in 14th but could jump up to 10th with a win. They'll also leapfrog us with a draw.
Fulham are in 18th, just a point behind Burnley. They'll displace them with a draw and will jump to 16th with a win.
I'm obviously hoping for a draw.
Half time
The visitors are in the lead with a Magpie own goal
Penalty to the Magpies
VAR checking
Ref looking at the screen
Penalty given.... and a red card for the Fulham man
Wilson takes and equalizes
Still even going into the last ten minutes
All over…ends 1-1. Not very impressive after being a man up
