Midweek Footer Madness!
Afternoon, chaps! There are so many Premier League fixtures about today, it feels like a Saturday. It also feels like forever since I had a chance to watch my beloved Leeds boys. The last time out, we went down miserably to a useless Brighton side at Elland Road. It's high time that we got our season back on track. We've already beaten Newcastle once this season - a 5-2 romp back in November at ER. Based on my patented rubric, we only need a point today against Magpies, but a win against an out of form side would be lovely. At the same time, we've got a London Derby between Crystal v. West Ham - I'll take a Hammers away win in that one, ta very much. Later on, we've got a replay of Southampton v. Arsenal on NBC Sports and Man Citeh v. West Brom on the Cock. Join me for all of the Super Leeds action, won't you?

Afternoon Boys
I will be here for you Bob
I am taking Jon to work today because of expected snow. I'll be here a bit after kick off
MOT
According to my Spectrum Guide... the late match on NBCSN will be from the Hawthorns and not St Mary's
I wish it was the other way around....it should be!
The team sheets have been handed in, and the names upon them were these:
Newcastle: Darlow, Murphy, Hayden, Lascelles, Schar, Lewis, Almiron, Shelvey, Hendrick, Fraser, Wilson.
Subs: Dubravka, Matthew Longstaff, Carroll, Joelinton, Saint-Maximin, Ritchie, Gayle, Krafth, Manquillo.
Leeds: Meslier, Ayling, Cooper, Llorente, Alioski, Phillips, Raphinha, Dallas, Rodrigo, Harrison, Bamford.
Subs: Poveda-Ocampo, Roberts, Casilla, Helder Costa, Hernandez, Struijk, Davis, Klich, Shackleton.
Referee: Anthony Taylor.
Hi there, Dave - thanks for joining in. How's your week going?
It has been an eventful week
Kathy has been exposed to Covid by her co-worker that came in while she was sick...what a numpty!
None of us have any symptoms so we are fine right now
As the match from SJP is going on, Palace host West Ham in a London derby. A Hammers win would be great for Leeds AND take West Ham above Liverpool!
LOVELY JUBBLEY
I am off to take Jon to work ahead of the snow
I'll be back
I'm really glad to hear that you're all feeling so well.
Good afternoon Bob and Dave.Hope the Nocito household is doing well after that numpty came to work
Really glad to see Meslier back between the sticks after his Covid scare. We've also got perhaps what might become our favored center back pairing - Llorente alongside the skipper Liam Cooper. And of course Kal Phillips is back from suspension. This is a strong side - no excuses. Come on!
COME ON LEEDS! MOT!
Agreed, Bob. Toon in woeful form, so this is a perfect time for a Leeds win
Cheer up, Stevie B., oh what can it be, for a fat, red-nosed bastard and a shite football team!
Welcome, David - thanks for dropping by for this one. MOT!
Early free kick there given up by Almiron on Raphinha.
COME ON LEEDS! MOT. They're off from SJP
And now another tasty challenge there, this time from Stu Dallas.
We decided to play our free kick short but I'll bet Newcastle will lump it into the box.
Looks like a dislocated shoulder problem for Lascelles.
Toon defender down and to exactly Sonny for Brucie adding to his fair Schaar of problems
Cheers, Bob. Glad to join in
Luke Ayling trying to burst through into the box but he's called for a push.
Both teams high pressing at the beginning here.
Is Lacelles injured of Sonny Bono's ex spouse
Just a reminder the midweek fixtures this week are the reverse of the midweek fixtures around my birthday
We cough up the ball to Shelvy and he has a go from distance. Can't do that much with this lot.
Another great run by Ayling - he really seems up for it tonight. Just didn't come off between him and Bamford.
First corner now for us - come on!
Good ball over but no one attacking it unfortunately.
Palace takes the lead vs the Hammers
Zaha with the goal , assisted by Fat Sam target, Beneteke.
Oh dear - our boy Llorente seems to have a problem. He's only just back into the side. What a terrible disappointment for him.
I am back
Come on Leeds
Isaac Hayden down for the Toon
Welcome back, Dave
Its already 1-1 at SP?
So an early substitution forced by that injury to Llorente. He's in tears going off. Pascal Struijk on for him.
Hammers tie it up at Selhurst Park
Soucek for the Hammers, assisted by Anotonio
We all want Happy Hammers today
Darlow punches out from that corner. I'm liking the pressure.
Oh - lovely move there but it ended up with a shanked volley from Jack.
Harrison should have done better there!
Yes, we do, Dave. Welcome back!
OH! Horrible miss kick from Jack Harrison off a great cross. Should have been a Leeds lead
We're really enjoying the wide open spaces of SJP so far. It's been all us.
Oh - Patrick nearly in there for a chance on goal.
Agreed, Bob. Leeds have dominated. Brucie about to follow Lamps down the plank
YESSSSS!!!!!!
That was coming! Raphinha with a tidy finish to a brilliant move!
0-1!
GOIAL !!! RAPHINHA GIVES LEEDS THE LEAD. WELL PLACED SHOT. GREAT TEAM GOAL
YES!!!!!!!!!
Is Brucie a gonner!
It was the Leeds high press of a Toon throw. Bamford won the ball at the halfway line, went on a run then passed wide right to Rodrigo, who passed to Raphina for a well placed finish from the edge of the box
Toon to fire Brucie.... there is a certain manager just out of work
That's Raphinha's third goal of the season - he's been a revelation for us.
Congratulations , Bob. Leeds deserve their lead
Now then - Newcastle have a corner. Mark 'em up!
Before the kick off.... Leeds were closer to the Top Four than the Bottom Three..... even closer now!
Phew! Lascelles had a chance there but put his header wide.
Lascelles heads the corner from Shelvey well wide
Lamps to SJP?
I love to hear that, Dave, but survival is still the main priority for us.
I need a clean sheet by Cooper and a couple of goals or assists from Dallas and Phillips
I also need Saka and Keirney to do the same this afternoon
Me.... rooting for Leeds and Arsenal!!
We need to keep up the pressure, not drop back.
Chelsea have announced their new gaffer
You're turning over a new leaf, Dave! ;-)
I think it's Tom Tuchel. Is that correct?
I saw that - it was expected.
Dave, nice of you to cheer for Bob and Steve's teams
I'm barfing while doing it!!
Chelsea fans will be singing Tuchel me Elmo!
The snow has started in ENY
Patrick picked up a knock in that last challenge. We can scarcely afford to lose him. Fortunately, I think it was just a finger in the eye from Lascelles.
We had some wintry mix here this morning but it's now cleared up.
Hammers take the lead!!
Liverpool.... drop!!! hahahahahaha
VAR checking for offside and or handball
Hammers have come from behind to lead 1-2 at Selhhurst Park
Definitely should count!
This is not what VAR was supposed to be used for...it should be for obvious crap!
Goal given
Antonio hits the inside of the post immediately from kick off!!
I heard there's a bad storm across the nation. Third day in a row of Indian Summer here
Now Stu Dallas has a problem - this has been a really rough game for us.
Lovely - keep it up, Hammers!
Stu Dallas down for Leeds. Not what Beilsa needs early on
Dallas is getting treatment...I hope he's ok
Soucek with both Hammers goal. He's been a great signing for them along with his fellow Czech
West Ham into the Top Four!!!
Liverpool fifth!! They play on Thursday at Spurs....they could go into that match in 6th! If they lose, they'd be in 7th
hahahahahahhahaahahahaha
Half an hour in - I'm very pleased with proceedings.
If I was a center forward I would have my nails clipped every day due to VAR's use of offside. Every millimeter counts as does every nanosecond.
Wow - that's quite an achievement for Moyesy. Do you lot miss him at OT?
That would be great, Dave
Agreed, Bob. Leeds look the more likely to get the next goal
Liam Cooper gives away a needless free kick there. Dangerous position.
Since we're top we're not really missing Moyesey nor after his disasterous spell in charge.
Lovely! Shelvy steps up and blasts one well over the mark.
In L1 today there's a promotion six pointer later this afternoon as fourth place Pompey hosts second place Abe Lincoln
Oh - dangerous ball in there and anything could have happened. Meslier has come off worst. Took a knee to the head.
This could be really bad - a Petr Cech sort of situation.
Meslier of Leeds and one of the Murphy twins for the Toon down after a horrible collision.
I think he made a mistake when he came into OT
He should have come in and said... you know how to win things...let me help!
He came in and wanted to do things his way
How much time will be added to this half... .players have been down all over the shop!
Looks like he'll be able to carry on, fortunately.
I think Melsier is looking at stars. Casilla may need to replace him
I hope Pompey play better than they did in the weekend's six pointer
I'm thinking about lucky seven minutes of stoppage time. Thanks fully, Melsier is able to continue
Agreed, Dave.
PLAY UP POMPEY!
Oh - dangerous ball in there from Murphy and Fraser should have hit the target. Phew!
Odegaard to come in to the Em from the Berna.....is that going to stop Smith-Rowe from playing....he has bee brilliant!
We need to attack some more - we're really under the cosh right now.
Antonia hits the post again!!!
It would be nice to hear the half-time whistle right about now - we've got a few knocks to nurse.
West Ham will be tricky in the Cup at OT!
The next round are all midweek fixtures
I don't care what you Robert.... I am a Baggie this afternoon
Toon starting to get into this one....knock it off
Struijk concedes a corner there as Newcastle were threatening.
What on earth is Meslier doing there!!!
Meslier dropped a cross but got away with it
Oh dear - heart in mouth moment there from Meslier. Got it at the second attempt.
Oh - quick counter attack and Raphinha nearly had his second after Darlow saved from Rodrigo.
Leeds go down the end and go close twice!
SCORE MORE
Oh - Rodrigo so close again!
Wonder what Steve thinks , but skeptical about some one like Odegaard , who has been loaned to many clubs. Why isn't he fulfilling his potential. Arteta will not want a lazy player
Another one down!!
Now Raphinha is down after a clash with Ayling. We're a bloody MASH unit out there.
Raphinhha down for Leeds., but now back up. They'e dropping like flies
Of course, the FA Cup 4th Round ends tonight as Bournemouth host Crawley.....sorry Bob
Five minutes of stoppage time to come now.
LOL, Bob. Hawkeye and Col. Potter needed ASAP!
A quintet of stoppage time minutes. I was expecting more
Raphinha is down again this time a hack from Schar!
Only 5 added.... these added times make no sense and are so inconsistent!
This half should have mega time added....other games...nothing happens and they add 6!
I wonder if the ten days rest has helped Leeds
Oh - great ball in but Patrick didn't get the right contact on the header.
Well, it definitely allowed some players to come back to fitness. But of course we've already lost one of those tonight - Llorente.
Murphy turns nicely but then blasts over. Phew!
United vs Evil Blades only match on the telly tomorrow.
With the Hammers in the Champions League spots, Moyes should play the boys in the Cup!
HT at SP
Agreed, Bob. It will also reenergize the players.
Stupid NBC!! Show an early game!!
Newcastle earn a late corner here. Mark 'em up!
Late corner for the Magpies....just fly away!!
Late corner for the Toon. Hope it's errant like most of the other have been as well as has been their finishing
Leeds.... almost in at the other end!!
Cleared out fortunately and Dallas is in for another chance. Just couldn't find a teammate.
Half time
So far so good
Leeds for the Double
Half-time - well, that was an absorbing half and we're in pole position. We've controlled possession from the beginning and have a goal to show for it. More of the same, boys!
Underway south of the River
Brucey is going to his bench straight away, bring on Saint-Maximin. He's a dangerous player who I'm worried about.
Palace scored from their only shot of the match
Zaha has a second shot...saved
Teams back out now for the second half - come on, boys! MOT!
Just tuned in the Cup match too
Should have been Leeds!
Newcastle coming up to 7 hours without a goal
Make a better cross there!!
Leeds were in!!
Oh - straight onto the front foot - I like it!
Leeds' goal was their first in 5 hours and 5 minutes
There is miserable weather at Selhurst Park and Dean Court
Keep it up, Jonjo - another useless cross from him.
This Cup match was delayed by 3 days because of Covid in the Crawley camp
Oh - so close to a second goal. It went in but off Dallas' hand.
Really open at this point - end to end.
Newcastle have a corner now - mark 'em up!
Leeds almost in!!
Back to the Cup
The Quarter Finals could be all Premier League
The 6th Round Draw has Premier League teams in each of them
Man Utd vs West Ham
Swansea v Man City
Barnsley v Chelsea
Wolves vs Southampton
Leicester v Brighton
Burnley v Bourn/Craw
Shef Utd v Bristol C
Coop coughs up the ball there and Almiron had a shooting chance. Straight at Meslier fortunately.
Now it's Alioski giving away a dangerous free kick - no need for that.
Phew! Lascelles is the threat from those balls in and he might have done better.
Bloody hell - Wilson has raked his boot over Meslier's face now. That should be a card.
Matty Klich on for Alioski who just picked up a yellow card. Good move from the boss.
Bloody Hell!!
BUGGGERR!
I saw that coming, the way we were coughing the ball up.
1-1
sorry mate
Ilan nearly saved it but it was too powerful to keep out.
Bamford coming off.... strange decision
So, another change. Patrick off for the second match in a row. Indication of the boss not being happy with him. Tyler Roberts on.
Stupid foul from Leeds...why do players pull back...so obvious
GOAL!!!
GREAT FINISH!!!!
CONGRATS!
YESSSSS!!!!!!!
Great move and a corker of a finish from Jack!!!
1-2!
Wide open at the back post!!
Hammers take a 3-1 lead
Leeds only just keep theirs!!
Phew! Shelvy weaved his way through to a dangerous position.
We'll need a third goal at this rate. This is another thrill-fest!
Saint-Maximin finally coming on now. He's been out since November.
For some reason, Talksport have exclusive rights for the Prem matches this midweek
5Live around the grounds
Bournemouth take the lead....scorer...... Wilshire!
Oh - Tyler nearly in there on the Raphinha ball. Great break.
Leeds almost in again...are the commentators complaining that Newcastle are leaving it open at the back because they are attacking.....why not!!
Newcastle almost in again!
Oh - Saint-Maximin rolled his man but Lewis skied it when the ball came to him. Phew!
This is another one that's hard on my blood pressure.
Bloody hell - what kind of back pass was that?
Antonio goes within inches for the Hammer's fourth...he's hit both post and then this one
And Lascelles nearly in there again. We've got to stop giving away corners!
Kal trips up Saint-Maximin now and Newcastle have a free kick in a dangerous position.
Fortunately, Schar hits it straight into our mini wall and the danger passes.
Another free kick chance for NCastle
Another foul given up by Kal. Dangerous territory again.
Shelvey to take.... off the wall for a corner
Rockets one off the wall and it's another corner.
A lot of players breathing heavy now - it's been furious stuff for the past fifteen minutes.
Pompey down to ten men…the bloke that scored two OGs at the weekend…. See’s a red!
Nice save!!!
Another Newcastle corner as Dwight Gayle prepares to come on.
Oh - Shelvy produces a good save from Meslier.
Baggies the last team to take points off City..... let it happen again!
Go on, Citeh!
