U.S. vs Jamaica is underway from Wiener Neustadt, Austria

Blogger g00ner71 said...

Thanks David,

It's a strong first 11 for the Yanks

Steffen; Dest, Long, Brooka, Cannon; Acosta, Musah, Lletget; Reyna, Sargent, Pulisic

1:30 PM
Blogger g00ner71 said...

The Jamaicans are composed of drips and drabs of the Championship, which the exception of Michael Hector.

1:32 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

You're welcome. It should be a rout as Jamaica is fielding players from USL

1:32 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Denmark has taken the lead in Israel, Martin Braitwaite with the goal thanks to an asset blown in by Jonas Wind

1:34 PM
Blogger g00ner71 said...

That was a shaky moment from Zach Steffen who couldn't collect a backpass and let it go for a corner.

That's bad because I expect the Jamaicans to pressure on corners.

1:34 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Switzerland three up in Bulgaria in the first half

1:35 PM
Blogger g00ner71 said...

This one is a slow-burn. 9 minutes and no US shot on goal or in its general direction.

1:38 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

I don't Michael hector is getting a game for the Cottagers this year. I'm guessing that central defenders Liam Moore of the Reading Railroad and Ethan Pinnock of the Bees , who are playoff bound clubs , would probably be their best players. otherwise basically asa you stated

1:39 PM
Blogger g00ner71 said...

I think its telling that there was an article today about the efforts by the JMT to tempt some more Jamaican diaspora English players to commit. They've been moderately successful doing that before.

1:43 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Josh Seargeant tackled for a corner. Ethan Pinnock heads away the corner

1:44 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

They used to be really great at developing decent international players , but in recent years that hasn't been the case. The English born players is probably their only hope

1:45 PM
Blogger g00ner71 said...

I think so too. There's a real dearth of Jamaican talent at the moment.

1:47 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

A good number of players are playing in Jamaica's domestic league., How is the U.S. not thrashing this team

1:47 PM
Blogger g00ner71 said...

We need to start imposing our superiority right now. That run and shot from Morris needs to be our wake-up. Why isn't Coach B shouting at them?

1:49 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Andre Gray puts through Ricardo Morris , who shoots wide of the target

1:50 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

I think I would have lost my voice by now . This is pure and utter rubbish

1:50 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Long ball from long was too long

1:54 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

According to Champ long won't be playing for too long a period of time

1:54 PM
Blogger g00ner71 said...

I hope it occurs to Coach B that a McKennieless midfield is a problem that Lletget and Musah are not able to fix.

1:55 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Jamaal Lowe, of the Swans, fouled by Reggie Cannon just outside the U.S. box

1:57 PM
Blogger g00ner71 said...

Dangerously clumsy from Cannon to set up a free right on the edge of the box.

1:58 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Into the wall by former Leeds loanee. Kasey Palmer then shoots straight at Zack Steffen

1:58 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Coach B is learning that there is a lack of depth in the U.S squad if he didn't know that prior to the match

1:59 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Nice slide tackle by Amari Bell on Sargeant Josh off a pass from Pulisic. Corner headed away

2:00 PM
Blogger g00ner71 said...

My complaint is that he's trying too hard to cap players that have little claim to an international place, rather than putting together a fighting unit of 15-16 players that can compete.

2:02 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

GOAL !!SERGE DEST GIVES THE U.S. THE LEAD WITH HIS FIRST GOAL FOR THE USMNT. NICE RUN THEN TURNED MICHAEL HECTOR THEN SCORE D WITH A CURLING SHOT IBN THE UPPER 90 FROM 25 YARDS OUT

2:03 PM
Blogger g00ner71 said...

Oh my word. Serginho Dest smacks in a corker. That was all him and quite splendid.

2:03 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

I understand the need to try out players to see what they can do, but I agree that by now Coach B should know his best 16 , let alone his best 22

2:04 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Bulgaria scores to pull it back to 1-3 vs the Swiss

2:06 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

cross from Pulisic headed out for a corner

2:07 PM
Blogger g00ner71 said...

Sargent is making good runs in front of goal but by the time the ball is getting to him he doesn't have a shot.

2:11 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Pulisic fouled about a yard outside the Jamaica box

2:13 PM
Blogger g00ner71 said...

Let's see who can hit a lethal free kick now.

2:14 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Free kick from Pulisic curled just wide and the U.S. is one up at the half

2:14 PM
Blogger g00ner71 said...

Not Pulisic evidently. His effort sails over the bar and the ref wisely call time on an unsatisfying half of few chances and missed ones at that.

Changes coming up, for sure.

2:16 PM
Blogger g00ner71 said...

I can't get the idea that Coach B has been elevated to a job he's not able to do. I'm unconvinced that he's got the personality to say no to the flavor of the month. And I'm equally sure that he doesn't have the backing of the US Fed to ignore the pro-MLS drumbeat that has belched up the ilk of Roldan, and the idea that Guzan should still be in a squad of 3 top US keepers.

2:26 PM
Blogger g00ner71 said...

Aaronson for Pulisic is the sub to start the second half.

2:34 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Just popping in to post England's line up vs San Marino

Do we need a keeper?
Do we need FOUR defenders?

Pope
James, Coady, Stones, Chilwell
Phillps, JWP
Lingard, Mount, Sterling
DCL

2:36 PM
Blogger g00ner71 said...

Reyna really should have done better. Aaronson's pass cut up the Jamaican back line a treat.

2:37 PM
Blogger g00ner71 said...

Goal! Aaronson forced wide but Sargent collects and squares it back to Aaronson who tucks it away for our second goal.

2:39 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Back from lunch to see Brendan Aaronson put the U.S. two up off a pass from Josh Sargant major assist

2:39 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Good afternoon, Dave. Looks like an attacking lineup, not in terms of the formation, but the fact that every starting midfield player is a creative player at club level

2:41 PM
Blogger g00ner71 said...

Aaronson is the only sub that I've spotted. Fotmob is taking the day off.

2:41 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Danes go two up in Israel . Goal blown in by Jonas Wind

2:42 PM
Blogger g00ner71 said...

Thanks Dave. That's a pretty negative starting XI to face San Marino. We need Ossie Ardiles in charge for this one.

2:43 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

I'm on a different app. Chris Richards, of Bayern, came on for Aaron Long. Jamaica made a double substitution a few minutes ago

2:44 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Next match on the deuce is Germany vs Iceland. Doesn't sound too appealing.

2:45 PM
Blogger g00ner71 said...

Which app?

2:45 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

The app is called Football Scores

Blogger United We Stand said...

England's next game is in Albania....it might be postponed because of security reasons

The big match of the trio of matches is Poland at home

Is Lewendowski available? Hope not

2:47 PM
Blogger g00ner71 said...

I don't mind watching Runar in goal as long at it's Iceland's goal.

2:47 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Nice run nd pass from Acosta , but shot wide by Gio Reyna

2:50 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Thanks for the update Dave. Player safety always come first. Definitely a big match vs Poland a win would put the Three Lions in Pole position. Somehow I think Lew will be starting

2:51 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Antonee Robinson, of the Cottagers, on for Serge Dest of Barca and Nick Gioachinni on for Gio Reyna

2:53 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Handbags between Josh Sargant and Tilt

2:54 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

GOAL ! JAMALL lOWE, OF THE SWANS , SCORES FOR JAMAICA ON A COUNTER OFF THE u.s. CORNER

2:55 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

That was Lowe's last contribution as he's off for Luca Levine

2:56 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

The goal was scored on the counter as two players with Championship teams chasing promotion combined. Andre Gray of the Hornets assisted Jamaal Lowe of the Swans

2:58 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Antonio of the Hammers and Mason Holgate of the Toffees would be huge additions to the Jamaican squad

2:59 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Pass from Giachinni should have been put away by the Sargant. I'm demoting him to Corporal

3:01 PM
Blogger g00ner71 said...

That was a poor goal to concede. Cannon never got close enough to block.

3:02 PM
Blogger g00ner71 said...

Gioacchini doesn't look switched on at all.

3:06 PM
Blogger g00ner71 said...

Who did De la Torre replace?

3:10 PM
Blogger g00ner71 said...

Brooks went off, and De la Torre sneaked on.

3:12 PM
Blogger g00ner71 said...

Steffen has to keep awake and produces two saves in two minutes.

3:14 PM
Blogger g00ner71 said...

Lletget puts an undeserved polish on this one for his second, the US's fourth.

3:15 PM
Blogger g00ner71 said...

That's end of the match. Jamaica just didn't present much of a test, but the US which didn't play very well, still ran out 4-1 winners.

I'll be interested to see if England can beat San Marino by a similar scoreline.

3:19 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Hey Boys,
How did the US look?

I am about to tune in the England San Marino battle

Of course, San Marino took the lead against England in a WC94 qualifying round match after seven seconds....they ended up losing 1-7.... Ian Wright scoring 4, Ince 2 and Les Ferd 1

San Marino have ONE win in the entire history. A 2004 friendly win against the might Liechtenstein
Can the Three Lions eek out a win?

What will be an acceptable score for England?

3:26 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Will 4-0 be a disappointment ?

3:27 PM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Hiya, chaps - I'm wrapping up my office hours and starting to pay attention to the footer. It looks as if the US have put in a good, professional performance against the Reggae Boyz.

3:29 PM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

8-0 is a reasonable result; anything less is disappointing.

3:30 PM

Is there any coverage of the match, Dave? I can't find it anywhere.

3:33 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

ESPN PLUS

3:33 PM
Blogger g00ner71 said...

Dave noted earlier that the England team today is much too defensive and not attacking enough.

4 at the back is entirely 1 too many. I'd sacrifice Coady for another attacking threat in the midfield or an attacking partner up front. Is Gareth saving Foden and Rice and Bellingham, Kane, and Watkins for the sterner tests later this break?

It's a typically safe pick from Southgate who just can't be bothered to let a consideration like entertainment get in his way.

3:34 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

I have tuned in the match on my Apple TV and have the Scotland Austria on my computer.....let me know if someone can't get on because of me

Players were delayed in applause!

3:45 PM

Sterling misses a header... two big chances...still....no shot on target

3:55 PM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

England not direct enough in their approach - too many tricky little passes.

3:55 PM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Oh - Sterling with a free header. Should be 1-0 up at least.

3:55 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Another chance for Sterling... missed again!!

Not sure what kind of role Kane thinks he's playing tonight. He needs to start turning and running at defenders rather than just dinking short balls back to defenders.

A goal every ten minutes so far, so we're well on track for that 8-0 that I had hoped for. Given the shocking quality of the opposition, it should be a cricket score.

OH! DCL volleys over off a mounted cross headed on by Lindy. That's another missed sitter

Kane would score if he was on the pitch.
