U.S. vs Jamaica is underway from Wiener Neustadt, Austria
Thanks David,
It's a strong first 11 for the Yanks
Steffen; Dest, Long, Brooka, Cannon; Acosta, Musah, Lletget; Reyna, Sargent, Pulisic
The Jamaicans are composed of drips and drabs of the Championship, which the exception of Michael Hector.
You're welcome. It should be a rout as Jamaica is fielding players from USL
Denmark has taken the lead in Israel, Martin Braitwaite with the goal thanks to an asset blown in by Jonas Wind
That was a shaky moment from Zach Steffen who couldn't collect a backpass and let it go for a corner.
That's bad because I expect the Jamaicans to pressure on corners.
Switzerland three up in Bulgaria in the first half
This one is a slow-burn. 9 minutes and no US shot on goal or in its general direction.
I don't Michael hector is getting a game for the Cottagers this year. I'm guessing that central defenders Liam Moore of the Reading Railroad and Ethan Pinnock of the Bees , who are playoff bound clubs , would probably be their best players. otherwise basically asa you stated
I think its telling that there was an article today about the efforts by the JMT to tempt some more Jamaican diaspora English players to commit. They've been moderately successful doing that before.
Josh Seargeant tackled for a corner. Ethan Pinnock heads away the corner
They used to be really great at developing decent international players , but in recent years that hasn't been the case. The English born players is probably their only hope
I think so too. There's a real dearth of Jamaican talent at the moment.
A good number of players are playing in Jamaica's domestic league., How is the U.S. not thrashing this team
We need to start imposing our superiority right now. That run and shot from Morris needs to be our wake-up. Why isn't Coach B shouting at them?
Andre Gray puts through Ricardo Morris , who shoots wide of the target
I think I would have lost my voice by now . This is pure and utter rubbish
Long ball from long was too long
According to Champ long won't be playing for too long a period of time
I hope it occurs to Coach B that a McKennieless midfield is a problem that Lletget and Musah are not able to fix.
Jamaal Lowe, of the Swans, fouled by Reggie Cannon just outside the U.S. box
Dangerously clumsy from Cannon to set up a free right on the edge of the box.
Into the wall by former Leeds loanee. Kasey Palmer then shoots straight at Zack Steffen
Coach B is learning that there is a lack of depth in the U.S squad if he didn't know that prior to the match
Nice slide tackle by Amari Bell on Sargeant Josh off a pass from Pulisic. Corner headed away
My complaint is that he's trying too hard to cap players that have little claim to an international place, rather than putting together a fighting unit of 15-16 players that can compete.
GOAL !!SERGE DEST GIVES THE U.S. THE LEAD WITH HIS FIRST GOAL FOR THE USMNT. NICE RUN THEN TURNED MICHAEL HECTOR THEN SCORE D WITH A CURLING SHOT IBN THE UPPER 90 FROM 25 YARDS OUT
Oh my word. Serginho Dest smacks in a corker. That was all him and quite splendid.
I understand the need to try out players to see what they can do, but I agree that by now Coach B should know his best 16 , let alone his best 22
Bulgaria scores to pull it back to 1-3 vs the Swiss
cross from Pulisic headed out for a corner
Sargent is making good runs in front of goal but by the time the ball is getting to him he doesn't have a shot.
Pulisic fouled about a yard outside the Jamaica box
Let's see who can hit a lethal free kick now.
Free kick from Pulisic curled just wide and the U.S. is one up at the half
Not Pulisic evidently. His effort sails over the bar and the ref wisely call time on an unsatisfying half of few chances and missed ones at that.
Changes coming up, for sure.
I can't get the idea that Coach B has been elevated to a job he's not able to do. I'm unconvinced that he's got the personality to say no to the flavor of the month. And I'm equally sure that he doesn't have the backing of the US Fed to ignore the pro-MLS drumbeat that has belched up the ilk of Roldan, and the idea that Guzan should still be in a squad of 3 top US keepers.
Aaronson for Pulisic is the sub to start the second half.
Just popping in to post England's line up vs San Marino
Do we need a keeper?
Do we need FOUR defenders?
Pope
James, Coady, Stones, Chilwell
Phillps, JWP
Lingard, Mount, Sterling
DCL
Reyna really should have done better. Aaronson's pass cut up the Jamaican back line a treat.
Goal! Aaronson forced wide but Sargent collects and squares it back to Aaronson who tucks it away for our second goal.
Back from lunch to see Brendan Aaronson put the U.S. two up off a pass from Josh Sargant major assist
Good afternoon, Dave. Looks like an attacking lineup, not in terms of the formation, but the fact that every starting midfield player is a creative player at club level
Aaronson is the only sub that I've spotted. Fotmob is taking the day off.
Danes go two up in Israel . Goal blown in by Jonas Wind
Thanks Dave. That's a pretty negative starting XI to face San Marino. We need Ossie Ardiles in charge for this one.
I'm on a different app. Chris Richards, of Bayern, came on for Aaron Long. Jamaica made a double substitution a few minutes ago
Next match on the deuce is Germany vs Iceland. Doesn't sound too appealing.
Which app?
The app is called Football Scores
England's next game is in Albania....it might be postponed because of security reasons
The big match of the trio of matches is Poland at home
Is Lewendowski available? Hope not
I don't mind watching Runar in goal as long at it's Iceland's goal.
Nice run nd pass from Acosta , but shot wide by Gio Reyna
Thanks for the update Dave. Player safety always come first. Definitely a big match vs Poland a win would put the Three Lions in Pole position. Somehow I think Lew will be starting
Antonee Robinson, of the Cottagers, on for Serge Dest of Barca and Nick Gioachinni on for Gio Reyna
Handbags between Josh Sargant and Tilt
GOAL ! JAMALL lOWE, OF THE SWANS , SCORES FOR JAMAICA ON A COUNTER OFF THE u.s. CORNER
That was Lowe's last contribution as he's off for Luca Levine
The goal was scored on the counter as two players with Championship teams chasing promotion combined. Andre Gray of the Hornets assisted Jamaal Lowe of the Swans
Antonio of the Hammers and Mason Holgate of the Toffees would be huge additions to the Jamaican squad
Pass from Giachinni should have been put away by the Sargant. I'm demoting him to Corporal
That was a poor goal to concede. Cannon never got close enough to block.
Gioacchini doesn't look switched on at all.
Who did De la Torre replace?
Brooks went off, and De la Torre sneaked on.
Steffen has to keep awake and produces two saves in two minutes.
Lletget puts an undeserved polish on this one for his second, the US's fourth.
That's end of the match. Jamaica just didn't present much of a test, but the US which didn't play very well, still ran out 4-1 winners.
I'll be interested to see if England can beat San Marino by a similar scoreline.
Hey Boys,
How did the US look?
I am about to tune in the England San Marino battle
Of course, San Marino took the lead against England in a WC94 qualifying round match after seven seconds....they ended up losing 1-7.... Ian Wright scoring 4, Ince 2 and Les Ferd 1
San Marino have ONE win in the entire history. A 2004 friendly win against the might Liechtenstein
Can the Three Lions eek out a win?
What will be an acceptable score for England?
Will 4-0 be a disappointment ?
Hiya, chaps - I'm wrapping up my office hours and starting to pay attention to the footer. It looks as if the US have put in a good, professional performance against the Reggae Boyz.
8-0 is a reasonable result; anything less is disappointing.
My coverage has started
I think England are playing in blue today.... hate it!
Team news out of Wemberley tonight:
England: Pope, James, Coady, Stones, Chilwell, Phillips, Ward-Prowse, Lingard, Mount, Sterling, Calvert-Lewin.
Subs: Johnstone, Rice, Mings, Henderson, Kane, Foden, Dier, Shaw, Maguire, Watkins, Trippier, Bellingham.
San Marino: Elia Benedettini, Manuel Battistini, Brolli, Rossi, Grandoni, Lunadei, Golinucci, Jose Hirsch, Berardi, Palazzi, Nicola Nanni.
Subs: Giardi, D’Addario, Ceccaroli, Zonzini, Michael Battistini, Luca Nanni, Simone Benedettini, Conti, Fabbri, Stimac, Mularoni, Zafferani.
Referee: Kirill Levnikov (Russia).
Welcome Bob
Is there any coverage of the match, Dave? I can't find it anywhere.
ESPN PLUS
Dave noted earlier that the England team today is much too defensive and not attacking enough.
4 at the back is entirely 1 too many. I'd sacrifice Coady for another attacking threat in the midfield or an attacking partner up front. Is Gareth saving Foden and Rice and Bellingham, Kane, and Watkins for the sterner tests later this break?
It's a typically safe pick from Southgate who just can't be bothered to let a consideration like entertainment get in his way.
I have tuned in the match on my Apple TV and have the Scotland Austria on my computer.....let me know if someone can't get on because of me
I'm on the Plus and other than that bleedin' golf ad, it's a good feed.
I'm not bothering with Scotland match
Mine is working well
Find it Bob?
I talk about entertainment, but woof, one of the matches is Moldova vs. the Faroes. That's a must miss.
I knew I read it somewhere...Poland's prime minister asks Merkel for special exemption to allow Lewandowski to play at Wembley
Don't know if it has been sorted out
They think it's MOLDOVA....it is now
Is it Liechtenstein that has the same national anthem as England ?
Thanks, Dave - I'll look again for it.
Wish the crowd was there... so you couldn't hear the players sing GSTQ!!!
Sterling thrilled to be standing next to Pope
Ban him-ban him-ban him!!!
Just YouTubed it.... it is the same
I love the little large national anthem lineup
Again... watching England at Wembley and not rooting for the white shirts.....hate it!!
I finally found it and I'm all set for kickoff. Come on, you Three Lions!
The San Marino side - never even 'eard of 'em!
Moment of applause for some England players that have lost their lives
Roeder, Worthington, Bell and Swan
San Marino alway reminds me of a hilarious short story by Nick Hornby about a country so small that all able bodied men are required to train for possible inclusion in the National team.
Players were delayed in applause!
Who do you think is England's starting left back against Poland?
Shaw? Chilwell? Trip?
Will San Marino score inside 7 seconds....Psycho isn't on the pitch to pass the ball to them!
Shaw on form, Trip for experience.
We are off... Road to Qatar....hopefully, somewhere else!
I wonder when the last time was that a Leeds player was involved in an England World Cup qualifier - go on, Kal!
Great question Bob
Who and when?
Alan Smith?
England already playing the possession game!
JUST RUN RIGHT AT THEM!!
Two minutes in and the ball FINALLY goes inside the box
Either him or Paul Robinson, probably.
God afternoon everyone . Back for the late matches to see Germany has taken an early lead vs Iceland
Kalvin Phillips (2020), 4 Caps.
Paul Robinson (2003), 4 Caps.
Lee Bowyer (2002), 1 Cap.
Robbie Fowler (2002), 4 Caps.
Alan Smith (2001-2004), 8 Caps.
Danny Mills (2001-2004), 19 Caps.
Rio Ferdinand (2001-2002), 17 Caps.
Jason Wilcox (2000), 1 Cap.
Shouldn't Shaka Hislop have been on the US v. Jamaica commentary? Did he take a wrong turn in the studio?
Welcome back David
Hiya, David - how are you, mate?
NO SHOTS yet.... why take their time!
Germany already scored against Iceland
Useless cross by Mount
Why play like you do against EVERY other team!! Why not attack attack attack
Goretzka with a great first time finish as several Bayern players combined: Sane, Goretzka,Gnabry, and Kimmich combined
DCL misses a sitter!!!
Bad miss for CL
HK is playing far too deep.
GOAL !!!GERMANY GO TWO UP. KAI HAVERTZ PUIT AWAY A PASS FROM SANE
Hungary take the lead at home to Poland in England's group
Big miss by DCL. Lord Bamford would have snaffled that one up. ;-)
Agreed. Tora Tora Tora.
Thanks, Dave. Good to be here after cleaning house the past few days , getting it ready to put on the market
England still haven't had a shot on goal.... SHOOT THE DAMN BALL
Sterling misses a header... two big chances...still....no shot on target
England not direct enough in their approach - too many tricky little passes.
Oh - Sterling with a free header. Should be 1-0 up at least.
Another chance for Sterling... missed again!!
These guys yapping about other matches as a cross comes over
And again - a real 50 pence piece header there.
The Magyars in the lead vs the Poles . Good news for the Three Lions?
Entire population of San Marino could fit inside Wembley three times... almost
The pace is at least picking up and the chances are coming. The first goal is just a matter of time.
Are the Hungarians a threat to England? I know nothing about them. Poland would seem to be the biggest threat in this group.
Benedettini turns around a shot from Lindy
Near from Lingard.
Yes, I see exactly what he was going for Shaka.
Lingard with England's first shot on target.... well saved
This keeper is probably a postman.... SHOOT THE BALL
Oh - Lindy with a nice curler that the keeper tipped around. Good height for him.
Corner out for another
Stupid training ground corner....hit it in the mixer!!
Now Stones hit one over....they are onside!!
How does Stones miss that!
Stones score those for Bloody City
John stones misses a wide open goal. Nice lobbed pass mounted in and shot over from two yards out
Bloody hell - now it's a sitter missed by Stones!
GOAL!!
JWP opens up his and England's account
GOAL !! JWP GIVES ENGLAND THE LEAD. HIS FIRST FOR THE THREE LIONS
GOAL! JWP with his first goal for England! 1-0!
I've got to run in a moment or two to set up my class for tonight. I'll try to take a sneaky peek later on.
Finally. JWP, who could do with a new goal celebration-the muppet, follows the ball and drives it home.
Were you guys at the 9-0 win over Luxembourg at Wembley?
I was
Nice first time passing down the left and well placed by JWP off a pass from DCL
Re Peter, 19:59... I'm reliably informed by my son that San Marino's current home kit is half blue, half white, so they've worn their away kit of white. Hence England are in all blue.. Hope that helps!
Anne, Beckenham
SMS Message: Re: Peter, Oxford. San Marino's home kit is light blue so that would clash with white. Their away kit being white means England can't wear white against that either. from Adam, Alnwick
No I wasn't I listened on the radio
Italy takes the lead vs Northern Ireland
Still annoyed with England's patience with the ball!
It should be get the ball in the box and shoot
That clarifies the issue regarding the kits
This bloke on the mic is too busy yapping about everything BUT the match he's supposed to be commentating on
Sterling goes on a run and then an atrocious cross into the side netting
What is the time line for the U21 European Championship ? It is being played now.... how long will it take? Will players be missing in the EPL?
Andorra vs Albania the marquee match of the group?
JWP is the 10th Saint to score for England...wonder how many I can name?
Channon
GOAL !!! DCL PUTS ENGLAND TWO UP
There you go. DCL with a trademarked headed finish.
JWP played the ball wide right to Reese James and his nice cross was nicely headed in by DCL
Austin?
DCL doubles England's lead
Get some more
Surely they would want hat-tricks
Great cross by James... I think he is the choice for Right Back in these type of games. I think ObiWan should play against a team that has Ronaldo or the like
Did you answer my Left Back question?
Terry Paine and Le Tiss come to mind
I think that was a foul by Mount
Nice hit by Chilwell
Oooooh. Good save by their keeper.
Ings?
This comment has been removed by the author.
My response based on current form Shaw would be Luke at left back
Le Tis?
Carlton Palmer.
Did Shearer score when he was a Saint?
I think Ings is correct
This keeper has made some decent saves
Sterling with a chance...he sucks
Nice block by Benedetinni from a Mounted shot
I think Shearer scored as a Saint
I'm checking in again. Glad to see that England are 2-0 up. Should be more, though. The San Marino lads aren't up for the challenge tonight.
I don't remember being at the Luxembourg match. Don't think so.
Romania takes the lead vs North Macedonia
I think I found the list
Channon 21 goals
Terry Paine 7
Dave Watson 1
Ryan Bertrand 1
Kevin Keegan 2
Rickie Lambert 2
Shearer 1
Danny Ings 1
Danny Wallace 1
JWP 1...and counting
We should be up by 6 but the finishing has been wayward.
Sterling cuts in and his shot is just over , skimming the top of the net
Three nil
Sterling gets a goal
No I was never at one of those Wembley goal feasts from back then.
Not sure what kind of role Kane thinks he's playing tonight. He needs to start turning and running at defenders rather than just dinking short balls back to defenders.
GOAL !!! THREE LIONS THREE UP. LOOKED LIKE A NICE PASS FROM, JWP AND STERLING SCORED EASILY FROM A FEW YARDS OUT
Finally, Sterling scores our third.
GOAL! San Marino gift us another chance and Sterling takes full advantage. 3-0.
Phil Neville had that many caps?
It was for Euro 84 qualifying in December 1982
So I would have gone and you were already in Boston
It was 8 years to the day that I would be married!
DCL misses another chance
A goal every ten minutes so far, so we're well on track for that 8-0 that I had hoped for. Given the shocking quality of the opposition, it should be a cricket score.
OH! DCL volleys over off a mounted cross headed on by Lindy. That's another missed sitter
Kane would score if he was on the pitch.
Oh - how did DCL miss that one?
At least England didn't concede seconds after kickoff
