May Day Footer
Happy May Day, comrades! It's footer time again. I'm up early to enjoy the match up between Palace and Citeh. If Citeh win at Selhurst Park, then United will need at least a draw against Liverpool tomorrow to keep the league battle alive. That's followed by my beloved Leeds' trip to the South Coast to visit Brighton. The Seagulls stole one off us at Elland Road, so I'm hoping we can return the favor at the Amex this afternoon. The tea-time kick-off is a London Derby between Chelski and Fulham. And it's you're still hungry, there's the late one between Everton and Villa. Join me for all the fun, eh?

The teams out on the pitch now:
Crystal Palace: Guaita, Ward, Kouyate, Dann, Mitchell, Riedewald, Milivojevic, Eze, Townsend, Benteke, Zaha.

Manchester City: Ederson, Joao Cancelo, Laporte, Ake, Mendy, Torres, Rodri, Fernandinho, Sterling, Aguero, Gabriel Jesus.
Subs: Walker, Dias, Gundogan, Zinchenko, Steffen, De Bruyne, Bernardo Silva, Mahrez, Foden.
Referee: David Coote (Nottinghamshire).
And we're underway at the Selhurst Park. Come on, you Eagles!
One talking point throughout the weekend is that there is a boycott of social media going on in the Premier League in order to make a comment about racist bullying of players.
Palace have started well taking it to Citeh. I'd love to see an upset in this one.
Oh - Mendy's cross found Torres at the back post but his volley was deflected out for a corner.
Oh - Benteke should have at least got that header on target. Townsend found him really well. Big chance missed.
Benteke latched onto a loose ball and fired a long-range rocket at Ederson. The Citeh keeper had no trouble grabbing it.
Palace will be happy that they've survived the first quarter of an hour against Citeh. They can build on that.
Oh - Sterling got around the back there but Mitchell did well to block him.
City have enjoyed 75 percent of possession so far, though Guaita hasn’t had a thing to do. There’s time.
In the dugout, Pep reacts. He holds his head in his hands, a study in despair.
Oh - Townsend had a chance to get a cross over to Benteke at the back post but he shanked it out with his weaker right foot.
Shame. A Hollywood ball out from Milivojevic but Zaha was offside.
Half way through the first half and Citeh aren't just having it their way.
Oh - Palace should have scored. Nice interchange between Ward, Townsend and Eze but Ederson smothered the eventual shot. Shame.
Morning Bob
How are you mate?
I am here for the first two games of the day
I just hate watching City....they bore me to tears
The commentators commentate like City will score every time
All they are doing is passing it backwards and sideways
NO SHOTS ON TARGET
To be fair, Palace have had the better scoring chances in this opening period.
With a crammed season, City have run away with the league because the amount of players they can choose from
Morning, Dave - I'm doing well. It was a busy week but we're now into the last two weeks of the semester and, for the first time in six years, I'm looking forward to a summer off without administrative duties.
That's it exactly, mate. Citeh have the good fortune today to be able to rest several players for that return match with PSG this next week.
Phew! Gabby Jesus has it in the net but he's flagged offside.
Jesus hits the net but the flag is up
Hope he's right
No goal
The commentators are also surprised when Palace have a chance to score, as if they're shocked that Citeh might concede!
Pep complains he has to play early Saturday but he has more of a rest for the PSG match
I watched the first half and listened to the second half of the PSG match....PSG were all over them in the first
I listened to the media going gaga over City... both goals were gifts!!
PSG sat back too much
Good for you for your summer of freedom
Oh - Eze has a chance to whip in a cross shot. Not too far away!
That's what it sounded like to me. The first one was a mistake by Navas and the second went through the wall!
It's going to be marvelous. Looking forward to the Euros and perhaps a late summer trip if the Covid situation looks reasonable.
These commentators....every time City have the ball....his voice goes up as if a goal will be scored!
They are doing nothing
This has been a fairly evenly matched match and Palace have arguably had the better chances to score.
I'd love you and Kate to come here at some point
Yeah - and their voices are quizzical whenever Palace attack as if they're surprised.
88% and he is going gaga....they have not had one shot on target!!!
Sterling stinks
He better not start for England !!
I'd play Mount, Foden and Grealish before him
Thanks, mate - a trip out to Scotia is long overdue.
I reckon that Mount and Sterling with start alongside Kane. Foden and Grealish will be in the squad.
Did you see the score of the Cambridge match last night at Harrogate?
Harrogate took a 3-0 lead and 4-1 before half time
Cambridge tied it up at 4-4 but Harrogate won it late 5-4
Cambridge still needs a point
Half time whistle goes and you must be at least a little pleased. Palace are well in this one. 0-0.
Zaha looked like he had picked up a knock right at the end of the first half. Some concern that he may not be able to continue.
Teams coming back out for the second half now. Of course the pundits think that Citeh "will find a chance to win."
I hadn't seen that. Nice to see Cambridge doing well this season.
Second half underway
Zaha is back....he was just having a sulk
No change in personnel at the start of the second half then.
Not sure why Zaha was sulking - Palace were actually quite good in the first half. They just have to finish their chances.
Taphouse raises his voice EVERY time that that City get the ball
IT IS RIDICULOUS
Yellow card....that is the type of tackle that shouldn't be a yellow...an attempt to go for the ball but the ball moved at the last second
Torres capitalized on Eze's slip and was on his bike but he was tripped up.
Again.... voice goes up..... as City pass it around but NEVER gets the ball in the box
I think fouls like that are misinterpreted as cynical ones denying a goal scoring opportunity. I agree with you - they don't deserve a card.
Wow.... a goalkeeper kicks it forward!!!
I just hate it that every team tries to play the same way
Of course, you don't like the long ball
Nothing is wrong with Route 1 if it is dangerous!
City goes close
Good clearance header by Dan
Scott Dann with a last ditch header off the line there - phew!
Off to the loo....goal coming then!
Let's hope it's not a Citeh goal.
I called it
Bugger! There is a goal to complement a Nocito Curse. Aguero of course.
According to 5 Live
And a second
And now it's 0-2! Fernan Torres with a quick second and it's an uphill climb for Palace.
Why did you have to go off to the loo?
Shadow is at me
I am going for walkies...I'll be back for the Leeds match
I know....my bad!
Citeh really pouring it on now looking for a third goal to kill the game off.
Enjoy your walkies, mate. I'll look forward to chatting with you during the Leeds.
Good morning, Bob nd Dave. Up to join you and not pleased with the score
Zinchenko coming on for Fernandinho now.
And Mateta on for the ineffectual Benteke.
YIKES! I just saw that Harroagte defeated Cambridge 5-4 yesterday. Cambridge would have been promoted with a win yesterday
Not a Big Club vs Forest is 0-0 in the second half. Owls down if the Rams draw later today if that score holds
Morning, David - great to have you on board. Shame about this match. I had some hope for Palace in the first half but they've collapsed since.
Who do you fancy in the Championship playoffs this season?
Thanks, Bob. I think I'm expecting the Bees to win the playoffs with the Cherries as second choice.
Big test for the Bees in the stinging Derby vs the Hornets. Would normally be the marquee match , but everything is done and dusted
Jordan Ayew on for Townsend giving Palace an extra striker. Change should have been made earlier
Sterling could have had a hat-trick in this second half. Another effort fizzes just wide.
That would be Brentford in the top flight for the first time, right?
So how is the move going? What's the update on that?
No the Bees had a five season spell in the top flight, which were the last four post war seasons then were relegated with Leeds the first post war season
We look good to go with the garage/yard sale next weekend ( Friday afternoon, Saturday, and Sunday). Just have Jacquelyn's room left. Anything that doesn't sell will be donated to the Thrift store. Then we clean and wash the house, then up on the market
Oh - Aguero nearly in for his second. Keeper did well.
That's a lot of work but I know that you and Elizabeth are up for it.
Thanks, Bob. It's been an exhausting process, especially mentally
An LOB blogging trio of stoppage time minutes
I'm back...it is freezing out there!!
No Phillips for Leeds!
Moring David
Still 0-0 at Hillsborough . Not a Big club down if the Rams draw or win at the Swans
Moring David
Good Morning, Dave. YIKES Still cold in May!
Not good for Leeds. Who is replacing Kal?
Looks like Citeh can win the title next weekend if we get a result vs Pool. Over and Citeh win 0-2 at Selhurst Park.BUGGER!
Welcome back, Dave. Disappointing result there. I'm well up for the next one, though.
Off to take Sparky walkies ahead of the Leeds match
Mariner, Gates, Brazil, Muhren, Thijssen, Ward....boy do Ipswich need players like that!
They have not scored a single goal in SIX matches!!
Yeah - I'm not sure why Kal isn't playing today. It looks as if Llorente and Koch will be anchoring the defense and Struijk will push into that defensive midfield spot. Klich is also back in the line-up so Helder Costa has clearly picked up a knock.
He has a slight strain according to 5Live
I want to keep 5Live going for updates of matches....except...they will be ahead of NBC
Robbie Earle is making excuses for Brighton. They've drawn 13 times. They could easily have been in the relegation zone.
With Cambridge losing 5-4 last night, they need Morecambe and Tranmere to drop points
Not a Big Club vs Forest finished 0-0 Owls down if the Rams draw or win at the Swans
COME ON LEEDS! Bob will charge Leeds win on his AMEX Card
The boys are coming out now - come on, you Leeds!
It'll be well worth it, David. That will do nicely!
If United get a result vs Pool, then Citeh would clinch the title with a win vs Chelsea in what could be a dress rehearsal for the CL Final in what could be the third meeting between these teams in a month in three different competitions, which means Citeh would be facing the team that prevented them from winning the quadruple and possibly a treble. ANY QUESTIONS?
Commercial time
COME ON LEEDS
Why is this a big one for Brighton, Becky Lowe? They're safe for another season.
Off we go
Come on Leeds.... payback time for the reverse fixture
We're away at the Amex. Let's go!
THEY'RE OPFF FROM THE AMEX! NCOME ON LEEDS! MOT! STUFF THOSE SEAGULLS.
What about the real United on Thursday.... the second half is what I want to see!! Not just the 5 goals but the way we played with pace going forward!
I totally concur, Dave. Time for some revenge. That loss at Elland Road was our worst of the season.
Marcelo's bucket has made it to the South Coast.
Seagulls pretty much safe. Another win and definitely so, but not today
As for Cambridge, they have lost twice in a row when a draw would have virtually promoted them!!
Again, Morecambe and Tranmere drop points will be enough
They host already relegated Grimsby in the last match of the season...surely they can't blow it
That was a fun second half to watch. A repeat this Thursday of your visit to Pompey in 2007?
Slow start for us - come on!
That will be the first season in L1 for Cambridge in nearly twenty years. They've had some tough times
Midweek, Portsmouth took a 90th minute lead at Ac Stan but still drew 3-3
They are hanging on to a play off spot!! Charlton could knock them out with their game in hand
I agree with Bob and Dave. Time for revenge for that loss at ER
Oh - Tyler found Klich well there down the left but Matty shanked it out when Patrick had made a good run.
I wish the Premier League was like La Liga
Top Four separated by three points
Oxford takes the lead at the Shrews. Oxford a point behind Pompey. Not good news
Newport takes the lead vs Cheltenham , who can be promoted today
Oh - Trossard had a good shooting position there but Meslier fortunately did well.
And another save from Trossard. We're really under the cosh early on.
5Live just said... 9 of the 14 losses for Leeds have been from their first meeting of the season. They have won 5 of the 7 return matches
Only West Ham and Wolves have done the double over Leeds
Bottom club, Wycombe takes the lead vs the Cherries. That won't be enough to keep Wycombe up if the Rams draw at the Swans
Wycombe take lead vs Bournemouth...probably won't matter
Free kick chance now for us. Jack to take.
Driving me nuts.... NBC so far behind BBCC
Poor free kick but Klich's cross earns us a first corner of the match.
Good stats, Dave and definitely encouragement for Leeds this match and heading into next season
Just tuned in Swansea/Derby match on Plus
Derby look Pretty in Pink
In the National League the top two take the lead. Fawlty Towers vs Eastleigh and Sutton United vs Aldershot Town. Fawlty top, a point ahead of Sutton, but Sutton with a game in hand and slighlty better goal difference
LOL, Dave! How would Wazza look in that kit?
Why on earth did Arsenal wear blue shirts against yellow Villareal? Arsenal used to have yellow away!!
RED doesn't clash with yellow!
Norwich losing at home to Reading
Maupay wins a free kick off Jack now and can swing one in.
Bielsa apologized for not being able to speak English this week
Talking about playoffs, Salford in the last playoff spot, a point ahead of Forest Green and two ahead of Exeter. All three teams currently at 0-0
Bugger! Penalty to Brighton!
VAR check now - come on!
BUGGER! Not Wellie done as Ali is called for a trip and a seagulls penalty
Bloody hell....penalty to Brighton
All came from an atrocious delivery!
Very soft....everything is a damn foul
This is the same ref with atrocious decisions the last two weeks!
Penalty it is - come on, Ilan!
Bugger....one nil
Pascal Gross squeezes it in under Meslier for 1-0. Bugger!
GROSS TO TAKE. BUGGER! MELSIER GUESSES THE CORRECT WAY BUT THE PENALTY FROM GROSS IS A MILLIMETER WIDE OF HIS FINGER TIPS TO GIVE THE SEAGULLS THE LEAD
Good effort but it was a good pen
That's why keepers shouldn't guess....if it is a good enough pen, you won't save it... react to the shot!
COME ON LEEDS TIME TO COME BACK
Poor start for us. We need to get in gear here.
Leeds haven't start that well
It has been a BRIGHT start from BRIGHTon
Oh - Stu Dallas did well to get to the by-line and he earns a corner.
Rotherham behind to Blackburn....good news for Wazza
Another poor corner now. We can't waste these chances!
Oxford took the lead by Shrews tie it up which puts Pompey back into the playoffs
Bolton take the lead and go ahead of Cambridge and would be promoted
Southend losing to Barrow...and would be leaving the league with Grimsby.
We're starting to dominate possession a little at least.
Chip from Bamford from the halfway line several feet over
Leeds take a shot from the center circle....keeper off the line but alas
Llorente tries a Pele - a tad ambitious.
oooh....almost a bizarre og
That's good news for Pompey. Good for Bolton who had a terrible start to the season
Well, he isn't exactly Pele
Oh - nearly an own goal there from either Webster or Byrne. Corner for us.
Slight change of subject . I am a season ticket holder for the RGV Toros . Our season opener is this evening vs New Mexico United.
Ipswich still on for a NON-Magnificent Seven.... games without scoring a goal
0-0
Better from us now. I'm hopeful.
Webster sure showed is a dictionary definition of an OG.
BOOM BOOM!
Are you going to the match?
Horrible3 season for the Tractor Boys mid table in L1 on their worst form since the 50s. Can't even score against a relegated side
Are you going?
Gjanni wins us another corner now. Let's make this one count!
Real Dons take the lead vs Pompey. Sorry, Dave
Bugger..... Wimbledon take the lead vs Pompey
Comes to nothing, alas.
Yes/. I'm going. Not pleased at the new kit. It had been orange jerseys since the club formed. Now the home kit is sky blue jersey with orange trim and the away jersey white with orange trim
Dan Byrne clocks Luke with his knee there.
Pompey equalize!!
Oxford now losing!
Let's hope Charlton can drop points too
Pompey one place outside the playoffs behind Oxford on goal difference
WY HAY! That's fantastic news
I announced earlier that Pompey's last set of matches were all against the bottom 12 and all of the bottom 4.....they have stunk it up in almost all of them!!
Lost to teams in the drop zone!!
Salford holding on to the last play off spot
My team needs a Dallas goal or two!
Tangerines take the lead at Northants. Tangerines in fifth and Northants would be relegated if that holds
Oh - Jack seized on a rebound there but shanked his effort.
I'll take that Dallas brace for sure. Any other Leeds players on your team?
Torquay winning
Sutton drawing
It is a three point gap with Sutton with a game in hand
Tigers lead Wigan 2-1. Wigan three points clear of the last drop spot and Tigers would be L1 champs with this result Both relegated from the Championship last Summer
Norwich equalize at Carrow Road
Canaries tie it up vs the Reading Railroad
Awkward one there for Meslier but he did well.
Luke wins us another corner now. Time for a better delivery this one.
Wrexham takes the lead vs the Moors. Wrexham now in a playoff spot and vastly improved since the American actors took over.
Short corner routine allows Jack to put a better cross in this time but it's cleared out for another corner.
Roberts whacks the ball....they want a pen...nothing given
Oh - Tyler hit a crisp one from the corner but it was blocked out.
Southend ties it up at Barrow. Southend wouldn't go down , but would be all but down
That Tyler shot did come off an arm but nothing given.
This time Sanchez claims from Stu's corner. But we're dominating affairs now.
Black Cats take the lead at Argyle. Black Cats will clinch a playoff spot if results hold
