Still the Biggest Match in England

Despite all of the chnages in the game over the years, the rivalry bewteen Manchester United and Liverpool is still the biggest one. Added to that this morning is that it's a must-win for both sides. Before that massive match, we've got Newcastle v. Arsenal, not a bad appetizer. Join me, won't you?

Danny Ceballos got sent off on Thursday against Villareal; he obviously won't be available this next week for the return match. Not sure why he's available today.

Some updates:
Rangers win 4-1 in the Old Firm Derby. Some familiar goal scorers. Kemar Rooofe with a brace and old man Dafoe with a late goal against ten man Celtic

Morning Boys

Totally agree...still the biggest match in England!

I am here showered and shaved to watch the first couple of matches.
I have to go to a wake after the match at OT

How refreshing....Arsenal wearing their traditional kit away from home!

9:04 AM

Morning, MUR - how goes the progress with the move?

9:04 AM

All Arsenal dominance early on here.

GOAL !! EL NEY GIVES THE GUNNERS THE LEAD WITH A RARE GOAL

9:06 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Will PEA get an assist for that one?

9:06 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Morning, Dave! You're here just in time to see Elneny fire home Arsenal's opening goal. Nice one on the volley that just eluded Dubravs.

9:06 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

He shouldn't; it was a complete hash up from him.

9:07 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Nice run and pass from Bellerin then a miss kick from Auabama and it broke to El Neny, who picked a great time to score his first Prem goal and it was a nice finish

9:07 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Good Morning, Dave. perfect timing

Toon will miss on loan Willock today

Decent move there from Newcastle through St. Max but the ball in found no one.

9:09 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Hello, Bob. We're getting there. On schedule to have the garage sale next weekend. Elizabeth and Jacquelyn did a lot of unpacking on Friday at the house we're inheriting.

9:09 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Yeah - he's been a brilliant pick-up for Stevie Bruce, and he seems to want to stay. Why not? He hasn't got a chance at Arsenal.

9:10 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Agreed, Dave. He's scored some vital goals off the bench the past three matches

9:10 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

So what is your plan, David?
Where are you moving? When?

9:10 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Hector Bellerin with a finish similar to one of mine with the lancers

9:11 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

It sounds like a similar to the one you and Kathy had a few years back, Dave.

9:11 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Don't know why he hasn't been given a chance a the Em...they could have used him

9:11 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

What Bob?

9:12 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

The plan is to move probably during the Euros. Not certain , but that's my best guess. That's the house we're inheriting about 45 minutes from here. Not sure about North Carolina. That's a maybe

9:12 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Chelsea women just took a 3-1 lead at home to Bayern Munich (4-3agg) inside of the last ten minutes of the CL Semi Final

9:13 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Oh, so you are staying local and not going to NoCar?

9:13 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

That is David and Elizabeth are moving into a house that they're inheriting while selling the one that they're in right now.

9:14 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Last night I went to the Toros season opener and they did something they did only once last season. Win a football match. They defeated New Mexico United 1-0 with a deflected shot on the hour mark. A scrappy match, but we'll take it

9:14 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Could Chelsea make the CL Final for men and women?
The other semi is Barca/PSG

9:14 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

oooh!

We did have to buy this one from two of the brothers. So we inherited 3/5 of the house

9:15 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

We're going to check out the area and see if we like it. If we do then we will rent out the house we're inheriting and move to N.C. If we don't like the area then we'll stay in the house we're inheriting

9:16 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Possibly two Chelsea teams in a CL Final. Too much Chelsea ???

9:17 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Bloody hell - they're breaking into the match coverage in order to cover the protests going on at OT where some fans are on the pitch! Wow!

9:17 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

STRUTH...what is happening at Old Trafford!
Fans in the stands!
Not looking good!!!

9:17 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Scenes of the protests outside OT. They need to focus on the match. Morons invading the pitch. BAN THEM FOR LIFE!

9:18 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Not very intelligent by these fans!
Where are the police!!

9:18 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Hopefully they are leaving!!

9:18 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Crikey - is the match going to be able to go on?

9:18 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Supposedly it's against the Super League, but I think it's specifically against the Glazers ., not the SL.

9:19 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Clearly the OT staff got their training from the same place that trained the DC Police ahead of January 6th.

9:19 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Worst pitch invasion at OT since the loss in the Manc Derby in '74?

9:20 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

We all hate the Glazers but this isn't right

9:20 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

There are kids on the pitch!

9:20 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

I think they need to identify the hooligans as they did on January 6th and arrest them. I hope they're arrested and banned

9:20 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Agreed, Dave. This is bloody ridiculous. It's hooliganism

9:21 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

I'd love to stand on the pitch!

Seems peaceful but moronic

9:21 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Are you going to get your Newton Heath gear, boys?

9:22 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

BTW, I've been there!

Chelsea have made it into the Final winning 4-1(5-3)

9:22 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

I did like their green and yellow away kit in 94

9:22 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Arsenal fans must be pissed not being able to hear their match

9:23 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Not sure about the yellow and green kit. We might be associated with the morons that invaded the pitch

9:24 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

BTW, the Gunners are still one up at SJP. The main chance for the Toon was when Matty Ryan tipped over a shot from St. Max

9:25 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Not sure about the match later this morning. Will it be delayed?

9:26 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Where they came in, there is a tunnel. I entered my spot about the middle. There is an entrance at the beginning of the tunnel. It is at the corner of the Munich Clock

9:27 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

I would hope not
Doesn't look much of a problem

9:28 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

The split screen ends and it's exclusive coverage of the match from SJP. Gunners one up and have moved up to ninth ahead of Villa and Leeds

9:28 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

I would hope not
Doesn't look much of a problem

Dubravaka does to tip over a powerful shot from Xakha Khan

9:29 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Well, the Capitol Police did eventually clear the Capital building and the electoral count went on but this is a tight timeline for them. What if there's another pitch invasion?

9:30 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

OH! header from Wilian off the corner headed off the line by Almiron

9:30 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

it looks like all the fans didn't linger....they all walked over the bridge and way away from the ground

9:31 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Agreed, Bob. The police need to do a better job. Like the 6th they need to identify the invaders and arrest them and punish them

9:31 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

A guy ripped off a corner flag!

9:31 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Great explanation about the tunnel entrance, Dave. Glad some fans have left

9:31 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

What a moron. Fortunately, it's easy to replace a corner flag

9:32 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

I would guess the police weren't there... no fans expected

Of course, they should have been waiting for them outside the stadium!

9:32 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

As things stand the Toon are pretty much safe , but not mathematically safe. Nine points clear with four matches remaining

9:33 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

What is they only had one set of corner flags?

9:34 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Agreed, Dave. The police need to be proactive in these situations, not reactive

9:34 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

This kind of display won't make the Glazers leave

At least three flags taken

9:34 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

One corner flag was ripped off. I'm thinking they should be able to replace it, but he needs to do what other fans do. Pay for them instead of stealing

9:35 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Pass from Martinelli cleared by Fernandez for a corner

9:35 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Corner from Willian helped on by Sideshow Bob and cleared by Cally Wilson for another Gunners corner

9:36 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

And the little kiddie was up on top of the net. Surely that's going to have to be replaced? Or at least inspected.

9:37 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Agreed, Dave. I don't see the Glazers going anywhere any time soon. That's why I hate the Fake Man United They're associated with MUFC ownership protest, not anything to do with Newton Heath or the history of MUFC. BTW they're now wearing red white; no longer yellow and green

9:39 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Odor Guard tripped just outside the D by Almiron

9:42 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Almiron upends Smith-Rowe and Arsenal have a tasty free kick chance now.

9:43 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Into the Wall by Odor Guard, but the Gunners keep possession

9:44 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Is Odor Guard a new deodorant made by Old Spice, David?

9:44 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

The Toon with a rare attack and Almiron wins a rare Toon corner

9:44 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Cally Wilson heads over the corner

9:45 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

LOL, Bob! It' definitely a spicy deoderant because it needs to be.

9:46 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Into a pair of stoppage time minutes

9:46 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Free kick Gunners. Free kick from Odor Guard headed on by a Toon player then the Toon wins a free kick

9:47 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Late free kick to the Toon. Taken by Shelvey and cleared

9:48 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

HT
Good half from the Arsenal

9:48 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

The Gunners one up at the half more noted for the pitch invasion at OT then the match at SJP

9:48 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Fans did a great job about stopping ESL but this is ruining it all

9:53 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

I am annoyed with these fans

9:53 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

They're back inside again. What is with the Softly Softly approach to policing at OT this morning?

10:05 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Crazy scenes now at OT again. Wow!

10:05 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Back for the second half and more idiots invading and I want arrests.

10:07 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

I am too. These fans need to be banned

10:08 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Would there be a forfeit of the match or would the match be rescheduled?

10:11 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Arlo White and Lee Dixon have been told to abandon their post!

10:14 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

YIKES! Where are the police. The S=stewards can't do this by themselves. My guess is the match might be rescheduled

10:16 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Also a violation of COVID rules. EVERY invader should be arrested on that plus hooliganism. Agreed with Robbie Earle that this is an embarrassment and needs to be done the right way

10:18 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Totally agree with you, David. I'm shaking my head at this in the same way that I did on January 6.

10:19 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

A small group of police now inside OT walking toward the hoolies.

10:21 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Fans playing cat and mouse with the cops now. It's farcical. There should be the Benny Hill Theme music going behind this footage.

10:23 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

GOAL! PEA has scored a second goal for the Arsenal while we're still looking at OT.

10:25 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

GOAL !!! AUBAM PUTS THE GUNNERS TWO UP

10:25 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Back from a walk as Arsenal double their lead

I can't see the match at OT going on

10:26 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

The possession started with a throw from Matty Ryan and after some nice one touch passing the ball was played wide left to Martinelli and his cross was volleyed in at the far post by Aubama from a yard out

10:28 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Welcome back, Dave. That may be possible. I don't think United should forfeit and be punished due to lack of policing

10:29 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

The line ups have been announced....not sure the point!

United
Henderson
ObiWan, Lindeloff, Mag, Shaw
McTom, Fred
Greenwood, Bruno, Pogba
Rash

Allison
TAA, Phillips, Kabak, Robertson
Milner, Fabinho, Thiago
Mane, Firmino, Salah

10:36 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Pepe on for Aubama

10:37 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Cavani on the bench

10:37 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Agreed, Dave. Perhaps the match will go on even if it's delayed

10:37 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Wonder why he's on the bench . This match is priority as the EL is pretty much done and dusted

10:38 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Ref couldn't get out of his car at OT

10:40 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

This a good score for Burnley, Saints,. and Seagulls fans

10:42 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Referee Michael Oliver and former United captain Gary Neville were among those whose vehicles were surrounded as they entered the stadium.

There was no trouble and both were allowed through amid much anti-Glazer chanting.

10:42 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Partey Time for the Arsenal - Odor Guard gets a rest and Arteta tries to bolt the door.

10:43 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Partey time for the Gunners as Odor Guard to the scent and Toon of a victory is replaced as Arteta shuts up shop

10:44 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

I still can't see Newcastle being in any danger. It's a matter of time before WBA and Fulham are relegated.

10:44 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

YIJES! I guess Jose wouldn't be able to park the bus at OT today

10:45 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

I thin k so, Bob. I'm guessing Cup Final weekend is when those two are relegated

10:46 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

This result will mean that Arsenal will jump up to 9th, ahead of Villa in 10th and Leeds now in 11th.

10:47 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

How could they possibly have the match go on when there's every chance of another security breach and someone getting seriously hurt?

10:48 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

All the rest of Arsenal's matches are in London!

10:48 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Crikey - Newcastle are down to ten men! Schar has been given his walking papers!

10:49 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

A straight red card!!!!
Schar with a sliding tackle but just give him a yellow

The modern day game is rubbish

Pansy players can't take contact

10:50 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

YIS! THAT SCHAAR DOES PUT THE TOON DOWN TO TEN MEN. LOOKED THE RIGHT DECISION AT FIRST, BUT LOOKING AT THE REPLAY I THINK IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN JUST A BOOKING. IS VAR CHECKING?

10:50 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

It's official - the kick-off will be delayed. Not sure yet when it will begin.

10:51 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Why would the fans jeopardize United vs Liverpool!!!
A chance to knock Liverpool out of the Champions League!!

10:51 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Agreed, Dave. That's a horrible decision. How did VAR say it was the right call?

10:51 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Where did you hear it was delayed?

10:51 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

If United have to forfeit Citeh are Prem Champs.

10:51 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

I just saw it

10:52 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

The only time the Gunners would leave London is for the EL Final. That would be in the capital. Of Poland that is

10:52 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

A delay seems the right call. Knocking Pool out of the CL and delaying Citeh's title is very important

10:53 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

The Dean of officials might as well blow the final whistle

10:54 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

There is video of a flare being thrown at the Sky Sports broadcast platform that is outside....it landed short

10:55 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

That is is
Arsenal have won 2-0
Played well.... can they keep it going on Thursday

10:55 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

The full time whistle goes and the craziness at OT only somewhat overshadowed what was a quite creditable win for the Gunners ahead of their huge EL match on Thursday.

10:56 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

I'm off to do some dishes and will check in later about the match at OT.

10:57 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

The Gunners win 0-2 and finish a man up, moving up to ninth , ahead of Villa and Leeds

10:57 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

They are talking how the stadium is rotting under the Glazers...it looked good to me when I was there
Three of the stands(not the one that I was in) are all newly built!!

10:57 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Flares thrown outside the players hotel. This is bloody ridiculous. It's no longer a protest; it's a riot

10:57 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

United players still at the Lowry Hotel in the City center...it is actually closer to the Etihad than OT!

10:58 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Teams no where near arriving at the stadium!

I am sure it will be called off!! If it does go on, it would have to be the last match of the day...but that would be at night and not safe

11:00 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

I always blame the Liverpool fans for what they do to the opposition busses coming into OT

Now they say Covid Bubble has been breached. A fan goes into the dressing room!!

MORONIC

They might not have been at the stadium but they should have gotten there!!

11:12 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Greater Manchester Police.....you knew there was a protest expected!

11:12 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

That guy who threw the tripod....arrest him!!

11:15 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Arlo is now inside my suite!

11:22 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

This won't help getting the Glazers out!

11:23 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

I don't like that Neville and Carragher are behind the fans!

I am against the Glazers...protest outside the ground....don't go in the stadium and on the pitch!

11:25 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

They are showing how I got to the stadium

Now they are showing fans and police clashing!

11:26 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

They are bringing back the hooliganism comment...I don't think it is the same as the 70s and 80s but still bad

I don't understand that they weren't around knowing that fans were going to protest

12:06 PM

Thanks, Dave. That means the kickoff would be 45 minutes before the late match. I can't tell whether it's too early or too late. Pure lunacy

12:07 PM

Agreed, Dave. Disgraceful from the Greater Manchester Police. Sack the lot of them!
