A Spot of Friday Footer!
Happy Friday, everyone! I'll be settling in for this afternoon's match in an hour or so. It's been a difficult start to the season for my beloved Leeds, with two matches against title contenders in the first four matches. Fortunately, this evening, we're traveling to Newcastle, who are mired in the relegation zone. Last season, we took six points from the Magpies, beating them 5-2 at home and 1-2 at St. James' Park. So, this needs to be our first win of the season. Come on, you Leeds! #MOT!

Good Afternoon, Bob. Here to join you for the big match and sending positives vibes to help Leeds win
COME ON LEEDS ! MOT! Let's do another double over the Toon
Welcome, David - I hope that you've had a good week. I'm really anxious about this one, as we need three points for sure.
We're very light at the back. Llorente picked up an injury against Liverpool and Struijk is serving a three-match ban after that controversial red card. Robin Koch is injured as well. So, Luke Ayling will likely slide over to partner Coop and our Swiss Army Knife Stu Dallas will step in as right back.
Jack Harrison isn't with the squad, so I'm assuming that there is a Covid issue there. Dan James will likely slide over to the left.
Thanks, Bob. It's been a quiet week. How was your week.
I just checked FOTMOB and you're correct. Jack Harrison is out with COVID. How are these footballers getting COVID if they're supposedlty vaccinated and staying in their bubble?
Definitely think at the back and the majority of the subs look like recent academy grads. It's important for Leeds to score often so they don't have to worry about defense
Yeah - we've got a lot of kids - Klaessen, Summerville, Cresswell, McKinstry, McCarron and Kenneh - on the bench.
I reckon we might see the introduction of the notorious lavender kit tonight.
Looks like St. Max might have just picked up a knock in the warm-up while we were watching.
Jack Harrison has confirmed on Twitter that he's contracted Covid. Silly sod.
The teams now getting prepared in the tunnel at SJP:
Newcastle United: Darlow, Manquillo, Clark, Lascelles, Hayden, Ritchie, Saint-Maximin, Longstaff, Willock, Almiron, Joelinton.
Subs: Schar, Lewis, Hendrick, Krafth, Fernandez, Fraser, Murphy, Gillespie, Gayle.
Leeds United: Meslier, Dallas, Ayling, Cooper, Firpo, Phillips, Raphinha, Klich, Rodrigo, James, Bamford.
Subs: Roberts, Klaesson, Cresswell, Summerville, Greenwood, McCarron, Shackleton, McKinstry, Kenneh.
Referee: Mike Dean (Wirral).
Afternoon Lads
I'll be around for the first half
Come on LEEDS!!
I don't want Newcastle to do badly tho....I think Brucie has been given a bum rap up in the northeast
Bob called it...Leeds in Lilac
Afternoon, Dave - surely you mean that you want Leeds to put Newcastle to the sword, right?
Here come the teams
Tonight I do....I just don't want Bruce to get the sack
Yes, it's the lavender kit, alright. Not keen on it. But we did do pretty well in the purple kit last season, including a 0-3 away win at Villa Park. I'd take that today.
Newcastle warm up jackets....same as their shirts(except for the 4 missing).....what's the point!!
NBC off to commercial again!
SOUND not pictures show the atmosphere
I agree with you - I quite like Stevie B. I'd much prefer that Sean Dyche win the sack race.
You guys wore purple at Villa park?
Pretty close to Claret and Blue in my book
Chim chimney chim chiminey......
Come on, boys - this is a big one. We need that first win.
5Live just was blacked out
We are off
Again, Leeds have already played three of the four teams tied for the top of the league!!
Still bummed about United in Berne!!
I usually like OGS but there have been two games that he has really annoyed me being so negative
On Tuesday, he made so many negative moves....teams have won with 10 men before!!
The second match was the EL Final....he spent the last ten minutes worrying about getting his penalty takes on the pitch instead of going to win it!
Oh - nice stuff from us ending with a lovely flick from Klich and a volley over the top by Lord Bamford. Shame - that would have been a peach of a goal.
Did you guys see that Bloody Pep is having a go a fans not showing up for their matches?
He said he won't apologize....perhaps he could leave
Dinosaur stuff from the Toon - free kick into the box from halfway.
Have Citeh had bad attendance? I assumed that all of the teams were having full houses.
Raph was taken out by Matt Richie there and it's a yellow for the Newcastle man.
Raph is having some treatment on his eye there, which has him off the pitch temporarily.
Rodrigo appealing for a penalty there - nothing doing from the ref. It looked like a push to me.
I'm backing from picking up Elizabeth at the mall and a tad tardy due to the traffic
Oh - Firpo got into a good position there but his final ball was woeful. Shame.
Good afternoon, Dave
Welcome back, David!
COME ON YOU LILACS!
Oh - nice move there but Raph couldn't get enough on Rodrigo's cross.
It's been all us so far, but we need to make the possession count. I want an early goal!
Nice Leeds move down the left and an out stretched Pahinha diverts a shot straight to karl Darlow
YESSSSSSS!!!!!!!!
Boom boom boom boom - Raphinha's in the room!
0-1!
GOAL !!!LEEDS STAKE THE LEAD. CONGRATS, BOB
GOAL!!!!!
Raphina with a cross that went straight in!!
Fans shouldn't be booing
Great ball in there and super dummy from Rodrigo in the center forward channel.
Boos from the home crowd already - luving it!
That was more like the Leeds we saw last season. Nice possession and a cross from Raphinha fooled everyone as it was dummied by what looked like Lord Bam and eluded Karl Darlow as it went in the corner
MOT!
Leeds move up to 12th place and need only half a dozen more goals to pass Palace into 11th place
The hfans may be booing the home team as much as anything else for their really negative tactics that are really unsuccessful
Klich has a go from distance but Darlow is right behind it.
A shot that was Kliched by the mouse was grabbed by Karl Darlow
Hiya chaps, I'm late so I missed the goal. Still, good guys in the Leed at the moment.
Oh - Raphinha was nearly in again - he's been a constant threat tonight.
Let's have another, boys!
Lionel Matty Ritchie tackles Raphinha for a corner off a nice long ball
Ooooh...Leeds almost in twice!!
Oh - Raph with another ripper with his left peg and Darlow just about scrambled it away. We're all over these mugs.
Header off the post then Darlow fumbled a shot from Raphinha
Oh - first real chance for Newcastle. Dangerous cross in and Almiron scuffs it wide, fortunately.
Darlow needs some treatment now.
Just wide by Almiron after a poor clearance from Mini Cooper off a pass from Lionel Matty Ritchie
Raph is in again but the final ball was errant.
This is a very open match now - crackling atmosphere.
Phew....Willock didn't get a shot off....what a pillock
OH! Nice last ditch Leeds tackle as St. Max was about to get a close range shot off
"errant"
CRAPPY
How did that stay out!!
Great stuff
Oh - great save from Meslier!
OH! Great close range kick save by Meslier. Toon starting to attack
Almiron has grown on me as a player. I think he's silenced a lot of voices that didn't think he was good enough to step out of Martinez's shadow at Atlanta, but I am convinced now.
This is the kind of football you want to watch on a Friday afternoon, eh?
Nice run by St. Max then miss kick from Almiron then great save from Joe Linton
Good afternoon, Steve. I agree. I consider Almiron a success at SJP. Not sure if Martinez would have done as well
Wow - that Dan James chance should really have been a pen, on the replay.
Oh - Rodrigo should have scored. Tried to pass it in but got it wide!
Just wide by Rodrigo. End to end stuff
I agree. Need unlucky not to be awarded a penalty
Dan James fouls Manquillo. Looked minor but Manquillo made a meal of it
Ooof, closest of shaves there. St. Max'a strapping reminds me of Scooby Doo vs. the Mummy.
Welcome, Steve - I didn't see you come on. This one has been breathless so far. I can hardly keep up!
It's been a great first half
Oh - nice set up by Rodrigo and Kal rips one just wide.
oooh....Phillips with a pop...just wide!!
I needed that to go in for my fantasy team.....Bob needed it just for his fantasy
OH! Just wide by Kai Phillips off a pass from Rodrigo
This one should be about 2-6 already!
LOL, Steve. Accurate description
Great description from Dave too
The way that we're playing is encouraging Newcastle to play a bit, and I love that.
Wow, just wide from Kal Phillips. It's end to end, but just think if James has got the penalty and Kal had ripped one in, it would be lights out at St. James.
Just letting everyone know that Elizabeth and I will be leaving for our North Carolina/Georgia vacation starting October 3rd and will be on vacation for about a fortnight
Careless there from Kal.
SOunds like fun - enjoy it, mate.
If Leeds more another one or two soon this one is pretty much done and dusted
Ah - Kal gives up a foul on St. Max. Mark 'em up!
Cheers, Bob. We will be in NC from the 5th to the 15th. We will be in Hayesville and Andrews oil NC ,m and Blairsville, Young Harris, and Hiawassee in GA. A combination of sightseeing and house hunting
So far, I'm not losing sleep about selling Joe Willock.
Oh - great break from us ending with Klich with a shot that Darlow smothered.
OH! Nice Leeds one touch passing with pace and Darlow saves a Klicjed shot from about 25 yards out
STRUTH...how did that not go in!!
Oh - Ritchie with a shot off the post!
OK, the tactic of not picking up Richie's late runs may have to be rethought.
OH! Off the post from Ritchie from about 25 yards out. Would have had Brucie dancingoon the ceiling , if it could hold his weight
Oh - almost another great break there but Rodrigo ran out of room. Corner.
Nice run by Raphinha on the counter then Rodrigo more like overran , which he did
Now a corner to Leeds. It's headed away
Have fun David.... as James Taylor says...
In my mind, I'm going to Carolina
Can't you see the sunshine?
Now can't you just feel the moonshine?
James gets the ball in a dangerous area...NO ONE THERE!
Pass from Dan James cleared for a Leeds corner
Oh - great cross by Dan James but Lord Bamford didn't quite get there.
Safe travels David.
Almiron wasn't touched....good decision ref
Almiron goes on a run then tackled and Leeds win another corner
Almiron into the book for some backchat.
I'd watch about six hours of this stuff, gladly.
Thanks, Steve. If anyone knows anything about the area , if you could let me know. If we move there Steve will be a nine hour drive, Bob a 12 hour drive and Dave a 14 and a half hour drive
This match definitelyworth watching
It'll be great to get you back on the East Coast, mate.
Bugger
Bugger! Right before half time, St. Max equalizes. 1-1
BUGGER! ST. MA X TIES IT UP WITH A NICE FINISH. NICE ONE TWO WITH JOE LINTON. SORRY, BOB
Bob is two hours closer?
Some incident in the goal mouth right after the goal there. I didn't see it. VAR check for something.
Damn. The Mummy's curse. Why wasn't St. Max closed down?
A trio of stoppage time minutes
We need to keep playing like we've been playing and the chances will come.
Thanks, Bob. It would be a great LOB move.
Correct, Dave. Bob is a straight shot North. You're not as far north , but several hours east
Bloody hell...how did Leeds not score THREE TIMES
Oh - three chances there and no one could score.
Raphinha took too long to shoot and his close range shot was blocked
It's 1-1 at the half. Leeds would have been well ahead , but for some missed chances
That's it....great half!
Sadly, that is it for me
Talk to you guys tomorrow
Best of luck Bob for the second half
TTFN
The half-time whistle goes on a really entertaining match. 1-1 Whew!
Cheerio, Dave - thanks!
For all of our chances in the first half, Lord Bamford hasn't had a sniff. I want him on the scoresheet in the second half.
Cheers, Dave. Great chatting . look forward to chatting with you tomorrow.
And we're underway again at SJP - come on, you Leeds!
Second half underway from SJP
You will be interested to note that Leeds play at your place on Tuesday in the LC. The match will be on Plus.
I don't know why referees blow up when they deflect the ball.
United at the Hammers in the Prem on Sunday then host the Hammers in the LC Wednesday on Plus
I think that rule with the deflected ball went into effect last season thanks to the suits at FIFA
Yeah - I saw that. Fulham are in good form, so that should be competitive.
Offside by more than the Klich of a mouse
Your friend Marco Silva Lining in charge of the Cottagers. Will he enjoy the hospitality provided by you and Kate?
Oh - Dan James should have hit the target!
Dan James more like Sad with that shot dragged wide. Should he Carry on Shooting?
Not hospitality whatsoever.
Sorry meant to say Dan James more like Syd.
LOL. Marcelo deserves the hospitality suite .
The replays can't really keep up at this point - there's so much going on.
Oh - almost an o.g. from Lascelles! Darlow scrambled it away.
Joe Linton well over after St. Max appeared to be fouled
James has been dispossessed too easily this evening.
You are starting to realize why Dave and I were so frustrated with him a]when he played for our United. More like Sid than Dan according to Barbara
We've let Newcastle into this one too much this half. Free kick given up by Rodrigo now - and a yellow for him.
The Dean of officials books Rodrigo for a foul on Joe Wllock the Pillock
I'm still hoping that Bielsa can sort him out.
Agreed. Leeds needs to go back to their first half tactics
Oh - we gave the ball away again and St. Max pulled a good save out of Meslier.
Meslier turns a round a near post shot from St. Max
We've got to get back into this one.
Then Meslier catches the corner
Oh - Klich with a decent chance there from Firpo but he didn't get enough on it.
Better from Leeds. Nice one touch passing then Klich straight to Darlow
Not surprised to see Dan James come off for Tyler Roberts. Jack Harrison won't be worried about losing his place.
Ryan Fraser replacing the tricky Almiron.
Tyler Roberts on for compatriot Dan Syd James while Wee Ryan on for Almiron
Newcastle have given up a lot of goals in the second half this season, so I'm hoping that they'll begin to tire.
Tyler forces a corner with his first involvement.
Nice idea from Roberts but the ball was too heavy.
Firpo has picked up a knock now.
Leeds currently in 16th place, a point above the drop zone while The Toon in the drop zone, third from bottom, a point behind the Dahlgren teams, , Saints, and Wolves
Well, this could be interesting. One of our Academy kids Summerville about to come on.
We really need the win.
Raphinha coming off.
Crys Summerville, a teenage signing from Feyenoord, on for Raphinha
Longstaff had a chance but blootered it over the top, thankfully.
Long staff with a shot from 25 yards out halfway to Leeds
Oh - again Tyler had a chance to play Rodrigo in but got the ball wrong.
Joe Linton with a flop that wouldn't even fool the Dean of officials. Poor attempt at winning a penalty
OH! Bam doesn't as he shoots straight at Darlow off a nice Kliched pass
Oh - Lord Bamford must score with that kind of chance. That was perfectly set up for him to hit a diagonal shot across the keeper into the corner. That's the kind of goal he was scoring last season.
Oh - great ball from Rodrigo and Lord Bamford got there. Wide.
Oh - St. Max with another chance but smothered by Meslier.
St. Max straight at Meslier after Leeds failed to clear their lines
Klich wins us a free kick in a decent area. Can we borrow Ronaldo?
Joe Linton with an illegal Klich that results in a Leeds free kick about thirty yards form goal
LOL, Bob. Ronny is ours. There's Rodrigo which is a similar sounding name
WOW! That was a high kick in the face by Isaac Hayden on Rodrigo and Luke was anything but Ayling as he let the Dean of officials have it
Rodrigo with a shot on the turn but couldn't get much behind it.
Two players down - Bamford and one of the Newcastle defenders.
We need a goal in the next ten minutes. Come on!
Manquillo and Bamford down off the tackle by Manquillo on Bamford
Lord Bamford trudging off for treatment now. Let's hope he's okay.
Junior Firpo runs into trouble and picks up a yellow for his trouble.
Firpo booked for A foul on Joe Willock
Krafth, who really has more graft, on for Manquillo
Clark forces a corner. Mark 'em up!
Cieran Clarjk with a shot blocked by Ayling for a corner
