Lakenheath Old Boys

We are all former students at Lakenheath High School and other public schools in East Anglia. We were in school in the 70s and 80s and drank deeply from the well of British culture of those decades - the pints, the telly, and of course the footie!

Back to the Prem!

Morning, boys! It seems like forever since we were together on a Saturday morning for some of the good stuff, but here we are again. It all gets started with Crystal Palace entertaining table-topping Spurs on NBC Sports. That's followed by the usual 3pm GMT fixtures, including a Ronaldo-led United at Newcastle on USA. There's also the intriguing relegation battle between Arsenal and Norwich. We end with Chelsea v. Villa. Join me for all the good stuff, won't you?

NBCSN went to split screen commercials as the teams were in the tunnel. They are back as they are coming out....will they go again before kick off>

Tottenham come into this one top of the table with a perfect record from three matches, the last team to have that. But they're missing Sonaldo as well as three South Americans who are banned because of that nonsense in Argentina.

Palace come into this one in 14th, just above Leeds on goal difference. So you know what that means for me - come on, you Spurs!

7:27 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Spurs coming out from the side of the tunnel....and off they go for another set of commercials!

Wonder when NBCSN is closing up shop? They said before the end of the year

Dier is being replaced.... All Hugo's fault!

7:42 AM

Not good for Spurs - Dier has become a rock for them at the back, after beginning his career as a defensive midfielder.

Crystal Palace: Guaita, Ward, Andersen, Guehi, Mitchell, Gallagher, Kouyate, McArthur, Zaha, Benteke, Ayew.
Subs: Butland, Milivojevic, Tomkins, Olise, Hughes, Clyne, Edouard, Kelly, Riedewald.

Tottenham Hotspur: Lloris, Emerson, Tanganga, Dier, Reguilon, Hojbjerg, Skipp, Winks, Lucas Moura, Kane, Alli.
Subs: Doherty, Gil Salvatierra, Rodon, Gollini, Ndombele, Davies, Scarlett, Markanday, Omole.

Referee: Jon Moss (W Yorkshire).

Love all the 3 o'clockers being back
Of course, we will have USA on the telly. Tom brings down his XBOX and we'll watch another match on that. I might have a third on my laptop
The Cock doesn't have that Goals match anymore or Soccer Saturday! I loved it when they had that

Totally agree - it was weird having the matches so stretched out across the weekend - always a Friday evening match and then four spread out over Saturday and Sunday and matches on Monday and Tuesday evening. I understood why they did it, but I didn't like it.

7:52 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Morning David....good on you!

Morning, David - I hope that you're enjoying your weekend in Fredericksburg.

Really glad to hear that the Brazilians are available, although that does mean that Firmino, Fabinho and Alisson are also available for Pool.

8:06 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

How about that U.S. result Wednesday? What a strong finish and great substitutions.

8:08 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

I don't think they will play since they played their WC Qualifiers finished around 5:30 AM on Friday GDT. Probably will be rested due to jet lag

8:10 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

The scoreline really flattered the US. They went 1-0 down in the second half and just scratched back an equalizer. It looked at 75 minutes as if they were going to drop points again, but then the floodgates opened as Honduras began to throw men forward looking for a winner.

8:10 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Spurs have done nothing going forward!

8:11 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

It's true - Kane hasn't had a sniff.

Oooh...Palace go close

8:13 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Oh - Gallagher was in there against Lloris. Hugo with a point blank save with his knee.

8:14 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

It was quite a debut for eighteen year old Pepi.I agree that the result flattered the U.S.but a valuable three points and helps the goal difference

8:14 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

And Benteke needs to score from that header from the corner.

8:14 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Nice double block by Lloris then Benteke heads wide from the corner

8:14 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

None of those Brazilians traveled. That's why they were going to be banned

8:15 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

A really crucial three points, for sure, but they're still in a precarious position on five points from three matches and with the two matches with Mexico still to come. Qualifying is by no means assured.

What on earth is NBC doing...after this match they are going over to USA for pre-game while Car Auction is on NBCSN for 30 minutes and then back to the Prem!!

I guess they are transitioning over to USA for NBC to shut down

8:34 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

I sure hope CR starts. Best United signing in years

8:35 AM

I am just upset that Fred isn't going to be banned!!!

8:40 AM

I don't know why either...it seems to have a lot of sport and is watched by many

8:40 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Oh dear - it's boiled over now as Tanganka pushed Zaha over and the Palace man retaliated.

8:41 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

A late tackle on Zaha....he reacted...lots of stuff happening

8:41 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Fight breaks out between Zaha and Tanganga. Now a spat between the Coyote and Harry Kane

8:41 AM

Only yellows after all of that

8:41 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Bookings for Zaha and Tanganga

8:42 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Yellow cards all round then.

I think that Zaha should have been sent off for the reaction. Ridiculous.

8:42 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

That was a rotten tackle.....all into the face

The rule of raising of the hands....neither did...but what they did to each other was worse than that

8:43 AM

8:43 AM

Great free kick by Gallagher but no one was committing to it. Benteke is a complete waste of space.

8:43 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Agreed Dave. I've seen red given for those

8:43 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

I think Tanganga should have seen red

8:46 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Tanganga with another challenge and is off

Again, he should been off before that

That probably wasn't a yellow

8:46 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Spurs down to ten men .second booking for Tanganga minutes after being booked. Stupid foul on Jordan Ayew

OGS likes to wait to play players....he throws away points for doing that

Will Spurs concede their first Premier League goal of the season?

8:49 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Worth remembering that Spurs still haven’t conceded a goal in the Premier League this season. It’s now over six hours since they’ve let one in, all told. They’ll do well to keep that record intact this afternoon.

I wonder where that bar is - when I was living in Boston, only the Irish pubs had the football on.

8:57 AM

First home goal of the season scored by Palace, first Premier League goal of the season conceded by Spurs, as tings stand all four Spurs League matches 1-0 with three wins and a loss

9:06 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Why? Because Palace were one position higher than Leeds on goal difference. My rubric is based on the bigger sides beating the lower sides every weekend, so there is always the cushion of the rubbish sides below us. This result does us no good at all.

9:06 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Fantastic news that CR is starting but not that Matic is

9:07 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

I'm pleased Palace took the lead. Leeds needs to go on a winning run and need to aim for a top half position
