Jamaica vs U.S. of Paramount Plus Importance
It's another important World Cup Qualifier for the U.S. as it's an unusual teatime kickoff at 5 PM in Jamaica. The U.S. has a slim lead at the top and needs to continue winning , especially as second and third place Mexico and Canada face each other this evening .Join me if you can . The match streams on Paramount Plus

The teams are out on the pitch in Kingston
There are supposedly 5,000 fans in attendance . Looks like 500 with pratically no atmosphere
They're off from Kingston.
COME ON U.S.,
JE- VAUGHAN Watson booked for a nasty foul on Bus
Hiya, David - I'm finally home and joining you. Thanks for getting us started.
Hey Boys
I join and the US take the lead!!!
Nice finish but weak defending!
I won't be here for the whole match but I'll be here for as long as I can
GOAL ! TIMMY WEAH GIVES THE U.S. THE LEAD. NICE ONE TWO WITH PEPI THEN BEAT ANDRE BLAKE AT THE NEAR POST AS HIS SHOT WENT IN OFF THE POST After as nice solo run
San Marino's ground is better than this one!
Good afternoon , Bob and Dave.
Great to see Wales is one one of the seeded playoff teams after a great draw with Belgium
In the last set of matches in Europe
Wales drew 1-1 with Belgium and clinched second spot and a seed for the playoffs
Netherlands scored two late goals against Norway to win their group. Turkey won to come second and Norway are out
I've seen more atmosphere in outer space than at this ground
Wahay - I've finally got the stream up on Paramount Plus and the US are already 0-1 up!
Also, Ukraine won 0-2 in Bosnia and France won 0-2 in Finland . The Ukes overtook the Finn s for second placed so the Finns are finished,
I was really impressed by Timmy Weah the other night - and he's come up trumps again tonight.
The big match in the group this evening its Canada vs Mexico from Edmonton, Alberta. It's third vs second. A draw would be a good result for the U.S,.
ooh... two shots both saved....come on...improve on 1-0
Oh - two big chances there saved by Blake. The Jamaican back four look all over the place.
Nice double save by Andre Blake from Pepi and Aaronson
This is Jamaica's first match with fans since Covid broke out. There were 5,000 expected to attend, but looks moire like 500
I see that my boy Kemar isn't in the starting line-up.
I don't think Antonio or Leon Bailey have touched the ball yet. Good for the U.S. but worrying for Jamaica
Correct. Kemar on the subs bench. probably lost his place to Antonio or Leon Bailey
A loss for Jamaica tonight really means that the Reggae Boyz don't have a realistic chance of progressing.
Antonio should have held out for England...he could have been a threat backing up Kane
Gordon Bennett....what a rocket by Antonio!!
1-1....bugger
Bugger! The Happy Hammer Antonio scores one from the top drawer.
1-1!
BUGGER! ANTONIO TYIES IT UOP WITH A WONDER GOAL. GOT A PASS, TURNED TYLER ADAMS THEN BEAT ZAK STEFFEN WITH A ROCKET OF A CURLER FROM 25 YARDS OUT. WE'VE SEEN HIM SDCORE THOSE FOR THE HAMMERS
Totally agree with you, Dave - he would certainly have been a cert for the squad. But sometimes players have a tighter connection to their ancestral homeland, and that's fair enough too.
I will be posting a thread for the explanation of the playoffs. Here are the teams
Seeded: Italy, Portugal, Russia, Scotland, Sweden, and Wales.
Nonseeded: Poland, Turkey, Ukraine,North Macedonia, Austria ( NL) , and Czech Republic ( NL)
I think Antonio picked Jamaica because he is an automatic pick for Jamaica and at his age it was tough to see him getting picked for England. I think he's 31 years old
Thanks, mate - that would be really helpful.
So as I see it...the Playoff rounds are in three Brackets(Paths)
Each Path has two seeded teams hosting two unseeded in a one-legged semi final
The winner of the each Path Final(not sure where it will be played) qualify for Qatar
Seeded Teams
Portugal, Scotland, Italy, Russia, Sweden and Wales
Unseeded Teams
Turkey, Poland, North Macedonia, Ukraine, Austria dn Czech R.
The draw will be made ten days from now(Nov 26) and the matches to be played in the March international window
SO... Italy and Portugal could both be draw in the same path and one will be gone for sure!
In African WC qualifying the Ivory Coast failed to make it to the final run of Qualifying and haver failed to qualify for the WC for the first time since 2002. Lost 1-0 to Cameroon today and finished second to Cameroon in the group, who advance to the final round of qualifying
I just posted what I thought before I saw your comment
Sorry David...am I right?
The big match in qualifying today is that clash at 9pm tonight between Canada and Mexico. A draw would be the best result for the US.
. Correct . We have the same teams seeded and unseeded. Would be funny if Italy and Portugal are in the same path
No problem. Yes you are correct, Dave
Correct, Bob. I will be watching Canada vs Mexico on TUDN. I think it's also on this same Paramount link
Some nachos have just arrived at the table next to me and I might be just a bit distracted for a minute or two as I inhale them.
A big upset in South American qualifying. Bolivia thrashed Uruguay 3-0. Uruguay seventh, outside a playoff spot on goal difference and one point outside an automatic qualifying spot
Sounds lies a great dinner, mate. I think Elizabeth is cooking sausage
That's the thing I didn't really understand about the seeded teams... now I know that a seeded team has to be in a same Path with another one
FIFA... shenanigans....Portugal and Italy kept apart? Ping Pong ball heated!
I'm just about to eat some fish and chips...sadly...US Style
I'll be back later
You're the true nacho expert, David - I'm merely the pretender.
No malted vinegar, mate?
Javain Brown booked for a nasty foul on Tyler Adams . I've seen red given for those
Sounds like a delicious dinner, Dave
Coming up on half-time now - a draw is really not good enough for the US tonight.
Oh I've got vinegar....just not the right fish or chips!
And no battered sausage either!
Kemar Lawrence tackles Aaronson a tad late on the brea. Both players down, but they get up and it's given as a corner
What helps is that Canada plays Mexico, so one or both teams will drop points
It's 1-1 at the half and after a great start Antonio tied it up with a wonder goal from 35 yards out
I miss those battered sausages. When Parkers was still in town, I'd order a pie or fish and chips and then just eat a battered sausage or sausage roll standing up while I was waiting for my order.
I hate all these comedians in the studio!!!
DRIVES ME NUTS!!
Did Parkers close? OH NO!!
We are ready to go for the second half as I am eating a Mocha Latte Ice Cream pie with a brownie crust...homemade of course
The other match of importance tonight is Panama (4th) vs. El Salvador (7th). You'd have to expect a win for the Canal Men, which would put them on 14 points, perhaps in third.
Parkers moved to a new location near Rochester.
The second half underway from Kingston. Greig Leigh on for Kemar Lawrence for Jamaica
I forgot about that match. It's important too
Close call there for the US. We've looked rocky since the goal.
Agreed. It's been a disappointing performance from the U.S. Hopefully they'll improve in the second half
World Cup Schedule.... how I love to be retired!!!
Group stage: November 21- December 2
Round of 16: December 3-6
Quarter-finals: December 9/10
Semi-finals: December 13/14
3rd Place December 17
Final: December 18
OH! long range shot from Busio inches over from a similar spot to where Antonio scored
Thanks for the schedule. I'm glad to be retired too. The third place match is on my birthday. The opening match is the day after our anniversary.
Oh - what a sitter! My boy Kemar would have snaffled that one up. The US in real trouble here.
PHEW! Bobby Reid blasts well over from a few yards out with just Zak Steffen to beat
That miss was by one of your Cottagers. More training sessions with you and Kate required?
I was doing the dishes....was that an atrocious miss by Jammies?
Definitely - Bobby needs to be sent back to school after that miss.
Damion Lowe down for Jamaica with an injured knee. The announcer said that knee has given him problems in the past
My wife is going to the West Indies....(ask me the right thing)
Yeah - from Fulham's own Bobby Reid.
Mitrovic seems to have benefited from the training sessions with you and Kate. The Portuguese will beg to differ.
Pulisic to the rescue?
D'ya maker?
The U.S. needs to bring on Pulisic for sure
That is - "Jamaica?" (D'ya make her?).
Ask me the right question!!!!
Well done
No, she's going on her own accord
Thanks Bob
Acosta and Pulisic into the fray then. Let's go!
Pulisic for Timmy Weah and Acosta for Musah as Coach B makes a double change
What does a draw do? Acceptable?
Phew....that backpass was almost a hospital pass!
Sounds like some great Python quotes.
Bloody hell - Steffen nearly bollixed that clearance up.
Bobby Reid , of the Cottagers replaced by Junior Flemmings , who plays in the USL
Bobby Reid gets the hook but it's some bloke named Fleming come on for him.
Also , United reject , Ravel Morrison, on for Lamar Walker, and Anthony Grant of Swindon on for old man Je-Vaughan Watson
I actually got that from an old movie... Escape from Colditz....I think
Really poor free kick there - the US have to capitalize on those chances.
Flemmings is bloody useless so It's good that he came on for Bobby Reid. He was suspended from the USL playoffs last season for making a homophobic remark to an openly gay player. Not exactly a model citizen
Still excellent quotes
Antonio used his pace to get behind the U.S. defense, rounded Zak Steffen , but the ball was cleared in the nick of time
I don't actually remember where I first heard that joke? It's an old one, for sure but it was just in the ether in England.
There's a Led Zeppelin song named "D'yer Maker" that's based on that joke.
Come on US...do something!
Comfortable save by Zak Steffen off a long range shot from Ravel Morrison
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rXPUfTc6bH0
Can't believe it...I found it! AND I remembered what movie!!
Paul Arriola for Aaronson and Fereira on for Dallas teammate, Pepi
More subs now - Ferreira and Arreola into the action. A little over ten minutes left.
Nice one!
Useless delivery of a free kick
Come on US...just get a lucky bounce of the bum and go home
Jammies hit the net with a nice header...but the whistle blew for a fould
Phew
Didn't see much there!
PHEW! It appeared that Damian Lowe heard in a corner for a Jamaican lead. Thankfully it was disallowed for a foul
Phew! A headed goal ruled out for Jamaica. The US on edge here.
The U.S. was lucky off that corner
As they're pushing for a winning goal, the US are leaving themselves exposed to Antonio, who Leeds fans will tell you can kill you with a late goal.
that should have counted!
After that cross , Bob and Kate will need to work with Antonee Robinson, of the Cottagers, on his crossing.
That looks like a good goal to me. We got lucky there.
Corey Burke on for Leon Baily on the final roll of the dice from Theodore Whitmore
This time Damian Lowe was high as he glanced a header well wide
3 added minutes
An LOB blogging trio of stoppage time minutes
We're into stoppage time now.
That's it
Not a great performance
Is it an ok result?
It finishes 1-1 . It'a an away point but two dropped points . The U.S. had the opportunity to extend their lead in the group
It's an ok result , but one the U.S. was expected to win. Hopefully Canada vs Mexico finishes as a draw
That's it - the US have dropped points on the road. Now Berhalter will have to look at the other results tonight to see where that leaves the team.
Next up are two matches in late January - at home to El Salvador and more crucially away to Canada.
Have a good rest of your evening, boys!
A win vs El Salvador and a draw in Canada would be success in my opinion
Take care boys
Cheers, Bob and Dave. Great chatting. Enjoy the evening
