Lakenheath Old Boys

We are all former students at Lakenheath High School and other public schools in East Anglia. We were in school in the 70s and 80s and drank deeply from the well of British culture of those decades - the pints, the telly, and of course the footie!

The Managerial Merry-Go-Round

It's been a whirlwind period of managerial changes in the Premier League over the past few weeks, with loads of teams making major changes. Claudio Ranieri has taken over at Watford. Antonio Conte has taken over at Spurs. Eddie Howe has taken over at Newcastle. News in tonight suggests that Steven Gerrard will be announced as the new manager at Villa, while Frank Lampard is in advanced talks with Delia Smith and the Norwich board to assume the reins at Carrow Road.

So, the question for the evening is - who's made the best change? Your thoughts, gents?

It's the crazy/ silly season. Stevie G did a fantastic job at Rangers and has earned the Villa job, but not sure how he will fare. Lamps at the Canaries is a move out of sheer desperation and the Canaries will get what they deserve for hiring him , which is relegation. All you have to do is look how much Chelsea improved once they sacked Lamps.

It certainly is silly season. I'm wondering who will be the next manager to go. If one looks at the current Premier League table, Burnley are in 18th and somehow Sean Dyche is still in his job.

Going up the table a bit, the next club who still have the manager who started the season with them is my own beloved Leeds in 15th. Well, there is no way that we're sacking Marcelo Bielsa.

Then there are those sides who are mid-table and might have expected to be closer to the top six or top four. Could either Brendan Rogers (Leicester in 12th) or Carlo Ancellotti (Everton in 11th) be in trouble if Nuno lost his job at Spurs (currently in 9th)?

I think that may be it for a while. About half the league is one bad run of form away from sacking the manager. Some of that is based on expectation. OGS has United in seventh place and somehow is still the manager. Sean Dyche is safe because Burnley doesn't have high expectations and have survived from poor starts in the past.Raffa Benitez replaced Ancelotti in the Summer. The next run of sackings may occur around the holidays season. Watch this space.
