San Marino vs England World Cup Qualifying

England needs merely a draw tin San Marino to clinch a spot in WC 2022. However, England should win handily , but the job needs to be done. A professional performance is the minimum requirement. Join me for the match on Plus. Also Northern Ireland vs Italy , near neighbors of the teams we will be watching, is on TUDN in a key match for the Italians. The Italians win the group as long as they don't have a winning margin to fewer than the Swiss. Any questions?

The Arsenal numbers in this XI are exciting, and I hope they do well today. More than anything though, I hope Ramsdale, Saka, and ESR come through unscathed. Thanks for getting us going, MUR.

Afternoon, guys - thanks to David for getting us started with this thread. I'll be tuning in for the first half before heading down the hallway to class.

The big Premier League news out of Blighty today is that the managerial merry-go-round continues with Dean Smith, who was only sacked a week ago by Villa, is the new boss at Norwich.

Blogger manunitedrules said...

Good Afternoon, Bob and Steve. Glad to help. How is everyone this afternoon?

2:33 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

I read about Dean Smith taking charge at CR. I thought Lamps was going to take over.

2:34 PM
Blogger gooner71 said...

I reckon that's a pretty shrewd move for Norwich to pick up a guy who has kept a underperforming team up for years. Smith needs about a player in each important position as well. I hope it works for him.

Afternoon Boys
I join just as Plus does
Like Bob, I will be here for the first half...hope it is all done and dusted by then

San Marino haven't won a game in 29 years

2:37 PM
Blogger gooner71 said...

And Smith is so much less of a prima donna than Lamps. He'll get down to straight away to survival rather then Fwanks trademark whinging and whining. I hear Rangers might need a manager, so throw him up there in Jock-land

2:37 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

I second that , Steve. There's a slim chance of him keeping the Canaries up, but it's possible. They need to be more solid defensively and as you stated a few good signings and /or loans in January

As I said on the text, I am not sure what the playoffs mean
Who goes in Path A? Path B and Path C
All 3 Path winners go thru
But who goes where?

Kane is captain of England and not of Spurs
I remember Robson being captain of England and Wilkins being captain for United

Surely, it doesn't happen often

2:45 PM

I can post a thread this evening about the paths if that helps. It will basically be a continuation of the text I sent. Tomorrow may be better after all the European teams have played their WC qualifiers

2:48 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

In the playoffs, I'm guessing Portugal will be the top ranked team and in Path A. If Italy finish second to the Swiss they will be the top ranked layoff team and join Portugal in Path A

Oh - first chance for Saka to get down his side. Didn't have anyone running in on his cross.

Foden with a scissor kick...just wide

3:09 PM

VAR check for a penalty there - I don't think that the bloke actually touched it.

3:10 PM

PENALTY! It did touch his fingers. If it's harsh then change the rules

3:11 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Come on... don't give this...it has been given and a card!!
RUBBISH

Common sense!!

3:11 PM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

And it is a penalty! What about the card for the San Marino bloke? Yellow. That's enough.

3:11 PM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Harry Kane steps up to take - this one will bring him beyond Greaves.

And it does! 0-3 England!

3:11 PM
Blogger gooner71 said...

England deserve that penalty shout because that blokes hand was up claiming offside or something. What a prat. No surprise who lines up to take the pen.

3:11 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Kane to take....3 nil!

3:12 PM

GOAL ! SMASHED DOWN THEW MIDDLE AS HARRY KANE AND ABEL TO PUT ENGLAND THREE UP

3:12 PM

3:13 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

45 goals...now ahead of Greaves
Only Rooney 53, Charlton 49 and Lineker 48 ahead of him

3:13 PM

Kane in the top four England scorers now. His next target is Lineker.

3:15 PM

3:17 PM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Kane again! He's on fire right now for England. On a hat-trick and England are cruising it 0-4.

3:17 PM
Blogger gooner71 said...

There's another one for Kane. Not the cleanest contact, but more than enough to beat the candlestick maker in the nets for the Sammarinese tonight.

3:17 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

3:18 PM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

3:20 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Harry Kane's first goal was a record goal

The captain breaks a 113-year old record by scoring his 13th international goal in a single calendar year.

Why couldn't he have added that by one at Wembley in July...for England AND my sake

3:22 PM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Wahay! It's another penalty!

3:22 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Scotland lead vs Denmark

England get another pen!!

Kane for a hat-trick

3:23 PM

PENALTY ! Another hand ball, but the booking was harsh off the header from Harry Kane

3:23 PM

He is going to take it..... back to back five goal first half goals...back to back first half hat-tricks....up he comes... FIVE NIL

3:24 PM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Kane's header was blocked with a hand.

And he's got another chance to score a first-half hat-trick.

Into the roof! 0-5 up! And he's onto 47. Are you watching, Gary Lineker?!

3:24 PM
Blogger gooner71 said...

Enough of the yellow cards. This Slovenian ref is ridiculously punitive. No prizes for guessing who takes the ensuing pen.

And it's hat-trick Harry again. 5-0. Before the half.

3:24 PM

GOAL ! SUCCESSIVE FIRST HALF HAT-TRICKS OFF HIS SECOND PENALTY OF THE MATCH. BLASTED IN THE UPPER 90 AND FIVE UP IN CONSECUTIVE FIRST HALVES

3:31 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

From the BBC

Football could take a look at how cricket and rugby nations qualify for World Cups because having teams like San Marino & Andorra compete against the likes of England is embarrassing and probably very demoralising for those on the end of a constant drubbing. There should be a pre-qualifying round where the 20 lowest ranked nations compete for eight spots in the main qualifying. That way they play games they stand a chance of winning and the other nations have less qualifying games to play. Everyone's a winner.

Dante Rossi off for his second booking for a foul from behind on Connor Gallagher. Stupid as he had been booked for the hand ball for the offside appeal

Rossi gets a welcome early bath for that hack on Gallagher. TAA wafts one in and Mings heads it home. 8-0. Wow.

Swiss not three up. Still 2-0 vs Bulgaria. The goal was disallowed for offside

San Marino should be banned from international competition if they intentionally cheat because they're getting thrashed

It's disallowed. Still eight up. Why was Tammy Abraham booked? He barely touched the guy

Gallagher is so unlucky as it hits the post, but the ball is recycled back in and Bellingham hits an unstoppable shot.

Hold up. Thie fussy ref has wiped Jude's goal out for something inscrutable.

Abraham booked for probably asking WTF. This ref, we shouldn't complain up 8-nil, but he's astonishingly fussy. I don't want to see him again.
