Leeds on a Tuesday!
My beloved Leeds United's busy pre-holiday schedule continues this evening with an absolutely crucial home match at Elland Road with Crystal Palace. Palace were a bottom half side last season, so you know what that means. We needs three points for sure today. A win today and another on Sunday at home to Brentford will put us on 18 points and we can then relax over the brutal holiday period with games against the top three sides. Come on, you Whites! #MOT!

I'm in the middle of my class this afternoon and just checking in on the earlier kickoff between Norwich and Newcastle. Obviously, we need a draw in that one. That's just about to kick off in a few minutes.
MOT! I'll join you for the big one.
Here I am. Danny and Robbie are each trying to outdo themselves about what a big match this is for Leeds.
I spent the day tidying the yard of leaves. There's a massive oak 3 houses down that deposits a ton of leaves in our yard every day. It's a bit demoralizing because I look up in that tree and there are still tons more leaves to come down.
I've also been watching the FIFA Arab Cup and it's confirmed to me that there is very very little quality going round the Gulf. Qatar which has been boosted by their undeserved world cup award are the pick of them, UAE, Bahrain, Iraq, and Syria, presumably will be seeded as the host and that's a complete disgrace. I wish them an immediate ignominious exit, nil points and goals next year.
Oh, here we go. C'mon Leeds! MOT
Jesus, there's a 3-foot hole behind the bye-line for a TV camera and Ayew just fell in. He's OK, but it's so dangerous. Shouldn't be allowed.
Bamford's picture must be on a milk bottle by now. I hope someone finds him because he's absent again for Leeds. Leeds lines up 4-1-4-1 today, Meslier; Dallas, Llorente, Cooper, Struijk; Phillips, Rapha, Forshaw, Klitch, James; Roberts.
Ooooh, Dallas's cross goes begging, just. Rapha was closest to it but no.
And now Forshaw hits it through a sea of legs and just wide.
It's not all Leeds, but so far their threat has been limited to Zaha's free-kick appeals, and the friendly Yellow Lab runs from side to side from Gallagher.
Palace's threat that is. And Ayew and Edoard are being dealt with by Struijk and Llorente and Cooper.
Pascal's challenge on Ayew looked really clumsy. Kevin Friend lets it go, but Ayew and Zaha are apoplectic. Paddy's giving the 4th official an earful too.
Hiya, chaps - I'm back from my class and settling in to watch the match now. How has it been going?
Very even up to now, with Palace coming back into it. James and Forshaw have had the best chances, and Rapha should be doing a bit more.
Looks like we're dominating possession but Palace are trying to hit with their speed merchants on the break.
Meslier punches a catchable ball because I think his momentum might have carried him out of his area. A young keeper's improvisation.
Good afternoon, Bob and Steve. Back from running some errands on a very chaotic day. I see it's still 0-0
I'm happy to see Pascal Struijk in at left back. He was much better at handling the wing backs on Saturday; Firpo was atrocious.
Forshaw's late challenge may be the last one that Friend lets go.
Welcome, David - I've just got here. Steve has been manning the LOB in the first period. Very even so far, it seems.
I agree Bob. I think you signed Firpo's evil non-footballing twin and the one you thought you were getting is trapped in his brother's dungeon.
Zaha is making himself a nuisance, as usual.
Hellos chaps. Glad you're here.
Thanks, Bob and Steve. COME ON LEEDS! MOT!
I don't know - it just seemed that he was running through the proverbial treacle (or in his case cassava pudding) against Brighton wingback. Frightening.
If by nuisance you mean throwing himself to the floor every time he holds onto the ball far too long, yes. He's an utter waster. I'm tired of him being in the division.
Still 0-0 in the Loser's Bowl match , Canaries vs Toon. Canaries now third from bottom there points behind Leeds. An hour ion to that match
Zaha also throws a temper tantrum every time something doesn't go his way and he calls that passion. Definitely a waster but could be so much better. However he chooses not to do so
Joel Ward booking for pulling down Dan James
Very difficult role for Dan James tonight - he's not a natural target man. I would like to see Bielsa try Gelhardt there and move James to his natural position out wide.
0-0 is the perfect scoreline there.
Cally Wilson gives ten man Toon the lead from the spot. Toon headed for their first win of the season. They , Burnley , and Canaries all four points behind Leeds
Joe Ward goes into the book - he's always good for one.
A Toon win may be better than a draw because Leeds currently four points clear of the drop zone and they would be three clear if it's a draw at SJP
Zaha should give up and move to NY Red Balls where they appreciate has-been losers like BWP. I'mm so tired of him an his antics.
Palace's Yellow Lab gets a ticket. Bad boy. Sit!
Paddy Vieira is not an Elland Road favorite, I can tell.
Atrocious free kick from Raphinha sails well over everyone and out of play
And another yellow card, this time for Connor Gallagher now. Lovely.
Paddy Viera may have done something unpopular in Dahlgren Derbies of yesteryear. That's my best guess
Oh dear - what was that from Raph!
Paddy wore out his Em walcome with his summer "shall-I-go, shall I stay" antics that denied us the payday we needed to replace him. And for not putting Roy Keane's lights out in the tunnel.
Struijch booked for a challenge on Jordan Ayew. A bit harsh as he barely touched him and got the ball
Bit of a clash now between Struijk and Ayew now - Struijk receives a yellow. A flutter of cards in recent moments.
The yellows that weren't given in the first 20 minutes are being doled out.
Struijk's down again for treatment. He's really in the wars tonight.
A pair of stoppage time minutes
Looks like Pascal wants to continue.
Heading into stoppage time now - we need a goal!
A couple of late Palace corners, both driven out by a mini Cooper
It's 0-0 at the half at ER.
Oh bugger! I've just noticed that Callum Wilson has scored a penalty for Newcastle. That's not good at all.
Late corner for Palace now - mark 'em up!
I must be a bit behind with my feed then - I'll refresh during half time.
Pukki ties it up for the Canaries at SJP. Now 1-1
Pukki's shot was a scorcher. What a hit!
Wahay - Teemu Pukki has leveled it for Norwich in the 79th minute - that'll do nicely!
Great volley even though Dubravka should have caught the initial cross.
Now we just need to do the biz in the second half. Come on, you Whites!
The last time the Toon were relegated they and the Canaries were partners in relegation
Two changes at half time from the boss - Rodrigo in for Klich and Firpo in for Struijk, who picked up a knock in the first half.
I won't miss the Tynesaudis one little bit.
Rodrigo and Junior Struijched and Kliched on the pitch as Bielsa has made a double substitution. Second half underway from ER
Let's hope Firpo is off the horse tranquilizers at this point.
Rodrigo was Kliched on and Junior Firpo was Struijched on in case everyone wants the exact details
Won't miss them either or Sean Dyche's goblins. I feel sorry for Norwich, but not that sorry.
I was worried that Pascal was only looking to make it through the first half. Maybe the introduction of Rodders will make up for Firpo's introduction.
Half a dozen stoppage time minutes at SJP
Good grief, that's only 2 minutes Firpo! Chrissakes.
Jordan Ayew goes on a run and Junior Firpo booked immediately after coming on. Not the impact desired buy LUFC fans. Free kick just outside the Leeds box
Firpo played us into trouble and then trips up Ayew. Not an auspicious start from the kid. Dangerous free kick now.
Into the wall by Connor Gallagher then the volley from Zaha high and wide. Haha!
Into the wall and Zaha hoiks it over the bar from the rebound. Alright now, let's stop effing about.
Jordan Ayew down off the challenge from Forshaw as Kevin Friend played the advantage. Not sure if Forshaw will be booked
Forshaw's probably going to get booked for that late one on Kouyate. He's still down.
Phew. The Yellow Lab hits his free attempt hard into the wall.
I'm amused at Kevin Friend's shaving cream can. Instead of a stripe to mark where the kick needs to be taken, it's depositing a big poo shaped dump.
Kevin's not being a friend with the shaving cream can
My mistake . The Coyote was down, not Aye. Does Adam Forshaw not care for Coyotes
I haven't noticed Kal Phillips at all today; he's really out of sorts these days. The grapevine says that he's had a bust up with Bielsa. I think that Leeds fans will have to get used to the idea of his leaving in January.
OH! Rodrigo shoots wide with just the keeper to break off a great pass from Dan James on the break. James received a nice long ball from the back
Oooooh! Rodders spurns the best chance at either end this match.
Oh - Rodrigo had a great chance to flick it into the right corner but he tried to round the keeper. Wrong choice.
Kouyate bowls over Rodrigo and we have a free kick chance now out wide left.
It finished 1-1 at SJP. Toon still winless and remain bottom. Canaries now third from bottom , moving ahead of Burnley.Leeds three points clear of the drop zone, but it would have been four if the Toon had won
Oh - now James has a half-chance from the free kick. Nice interplay between Raph and Firpo.
That's interesting. I've been trying to square Kai's performances with Leeds with his recent form for England. But I hadn't heard he and Marcelo were feuding.
That's the best result for us in that one, with both relegation threatened clubs dropping points against each other.
Oh - Forshaw with a chance now; deflected shot into Guaita's arms. Better from us.
I had not heard that either, but would explain his poor run of form with Leeds this season. Not sure where Kai would head in January. Perhaps OT?
That's the scuttlebutt on the boards right now - Liverpool have been fluttering their eyelashes at him.
No wins, and it's December. Both Norwich and the Tynesaudis must be gone.
Raph down as Zaha stepped on his ankle.
Canaries have won twice since Dean Smith took over and are only three points behind Leeds. I think Burnley , with only one win, is in greater danger than the Canaries.
Leeds needs to start winning matches and they are definitely capable of that
Still very tight down there, with us, Watford, Soton and even Everton in the mixer.
Cometh the hour, cometh the Leeds goals.
I'd love the relegation race to be over with Burnley, Norwich, and the Tynesaudi's all lost before the new year.
Two wins today and on Sunday and we can have a laugh at the next four. Chelsea, City, Liverpool and Arsenal can run up tennis scores against us and it won't matter.
I wonder if Raffa Benitez is on thin ice with the Toffees.
We will take more erratic clearances like that from Guaita
If Kal goes to Anfield, then surely he will be sitting the bench , which would surely cost him a place in the England squad. Sounds like he's only concerned with a big payday
Paddy's having a go at Zaha now; apparently Zaha has accused his boss of having "bullied" him. LOL!
Nice Leeds pressing , but A long range shot from Forshaw is well over.
What's this about the coverage moving to the USA network? Instead of Peacock or instead of NBCSN?
Forshaw tries one from distance but it's well over.
Zaha just a big cry baby. He thinks he's a prima donna
We really need to capitalize on all of this dominance.
Zaha bullied by Kevin Friend because he didn't get a foul called his way. Also bullied by the ball as it ran out of play
Actually hand ball missed by Kevin Friend, but Zaha still a cry baby
Christian Benteke being prepared to come on.
What kind of nonsense is that from Dallas. I think Zaha would have been within his rights to boot Dallas's head off.
Stu Dallas receiving some treatment now; we can ill afford to lose our Swiss Army knife.
Like for like as Beneteke on for Oddy Eddie
Looks like Benteke has been after the pies over Thanksgiving. Carrying a bit of extra timber.
Does Dave not know we're on the blog? My phone is dinging and dinging and dinging and it's too much.
Fancy skilz from Zaha, nothing comes of it.
Zaha wins a free kick about a foot outside the Leeds box. Grabbed down by Stu Dallas
Dallas hauls down Zaha and picks up a yellow card now.
Dave must be on the road.
Was that a scorpion kick from Kouyate?
Oooh. I thought that was curtains. What a miss from Big Waffle.
Phew! Benteke misses an absolute sitter at the back post. Wow!
PHEW! Beneteke misses a requisite sitter , heading wide of an open goal from a couple of yards out with a free header off a nice cross from Zaha after Connor Gallagher had a shot well blocked
A bit more of a spring in Palace's step now - dangerous time for us.
Fifteen minutes left for us to dig one out now - one off the bum will do fine. I don't need spectacular.
Tyler Roberts brought down by Jeff Schlupp
Schlupp brings down Tyler and we hav a chance to swing one in.
Free kick headed out by Beneteke for a Leeds corner
Thomkins heads out the corner for another
I'd love to see Joe Gelhardt right about now - we need that x factor.
Corner out for yet another Leeds corner
Now Gallagher counters for Palace off the Leeds corner
Oh - that was nearly an own goal off Tompkins!
PHEW ! Meslier keeps it 0-0 as he made a brilliant close range reflex save
Oh my! Heart in mouth time for Leeds fans. Somehow Meslier got there.
That would have been so cruel. Meslier saves the game from Ayew's opportunistic jab.
Saved it right on the line from Beneteke as he rushed back after being out of position
Will Hughes on for a Palace debut for Jeff Schlupp.
Will Hughes comes on for Schlupp now.
Big Waffle misses by a mile.
Beneteke well wide from just outside the box. Bob must be delighted he's come on. L:eft his shooting boots in another universe
Phew! Benteke with a run and shot off target.
Dan James wins a corner off of Joel Ward
James wins us another corner opportunity. We must make the most of this one.
Rodrigo fouls Mitchell midway between the box and the touchline
Rodrigo gives us a silly foul there. Dangerous.
Free kick headed out for a corner
Corner headed away but Palace keep possession
Tyler goes into the book for a forward's challenge.
Tyler Roberts booked for a foul on Mitchell. That was really harsh and picky by Kevin Friend
Five minutes left or so.
Oh - Tyler had a chance there but curled it tamely into the arms of Guaita.
Michael Olise on for Jordan Ayew
Olise coming on for Jordan Ayew now.
Into stoppage time
A quintet of those minutes as Leeds wins a corner
Five minutes of stoppage time to come as we get a corner.
Leed player wanting a penalty for hand ball off the corner
Coop is claiming a handball there. Could there be a VAR check for a pen? Oh my!
Definite hand ball. C'mon VAR!
Kevin Friend goes to the monitor to the delight of the Leeds supporters
Oh my - he's going to have a look - be still my beating heart!
Looks like a pen to me - come on!
Defintely an out stretched paw by the Coyote.,
WAY HAY! A LATE PENALTY TO LEEDS!
It is a penalty!!!!!
That's the correct decision. Stone wall penalty. Get-in!
Actually Geuhi called for hand ball
I can barely watch - we really need this one to fly in.
YESSSSSSSS!!!!! RAPH WITH A WELL PLACED PENALTY TO GIOVE LEEDS A LATE LEAD DESPITE GUAITA DIVING THE CORRECT WAY
YES! Stupid fannying around but the pen goes in!
Raph to take....
YESSSSS!!!!!!!
Boom boom boom boom - Raphinha's in the room!!!!
Congratulations, Bob, even though you probably didn't care for the stutter step.
Don't like that pen at all but it's the result that matters for us.
1-0 Whites!
CONGRATS!!!
HOLD OUT!!!
Leeds now five points clear of the drop zone and now up to 15th place, ahead of Saints and Hornets
Charlie Cresswell on for the last few minutes to shore things up.
Good afternoon, Dave
Hang-on, Leeds.
Leed sonly behind the Toffees on goal difference
Now it's Forshaw with a silly foul and a yellow card.
BLOW UP REF
Free kick called...lovely jubbley
Raph wins a late free kick off of Will Hughes. That should run off some time
Blow up, ref!
CONGATS MATE!!1
Welcome, Dave!
YESSSSSS!!!! Leeds won 1-0 thanks to the stoppage time penalty, but were definitely the better team.
Congratulations, Bob
Hughes stupidly wastes precious moments with that foul.
That's it! What a clutch win for Leeds. Congrats Bob. That's terrific for your lot.
YESSSSS!!!!!
We haven't been playing well but somehow we're digging out the results that we need. Another win on Sunday against Brentford and we can breathe a bit.
Leeds five points clear of the drop Zone. Now 15th , leap frogging Saints and Hornets
Agreed. Leeds will probably be mid table with a win vs the Bees.
Thanks for joining me to gut that one out, boys!
