Leeds on a Tuesday!

My beloved Leeds United's busy pre-holiday schedule continues this evening with an absolutely crucial home match at Elland Road with Crystal Palace. Palace were a bottom half side last season, so you know what that means. We needs three points for sure today. A win today and another on Sunday at home to Brentford will put us on 18 points and we can then relax over the brutal holiday period with games against the top three sides. Come on, you Whites! #MOT!

I'm in the middle of my class this afternoon and just checking in on the earlier kickoff between Norwich and Newcastle. Obviously, we need a draw in that one. That's just about to kick off in a few minutes.

MOT! I'll join you for the big one.

Here I am. Danny and Robbie are each trying to outdo themselves about what a big match this is for Leeds.

I spent the day tidying the yard of leaves. There's a massive oak 3 houses down that deposits a ton of leaves in our yard every day. It's a bit demoralizing because I look up in that tree and there are still tons more leaves to come down.

I've also been watching the FIFA Arab Cup and it's confirmed to me that there is very very little quality going round the Gulf. Qatar which has been boosted by their undeserved world cup award are the pick of them, UAE, Bahrain, Iraq, and Syria, presumably will be seeded as the host and that's a complete disgrace. I wish them an immediate ignominious exit, nil points and goals next year.

Oh, here we go. C'mon Leeds! MOT

Jesus, there's a 3-foot hole behind the bye-line for a TV camera and Ayew just fell in. He's OK, but it's so dangerous. Shouldn't be allowed.

3:20 PM
Blogger gooner71 said...

Bamford's picture must be on a milk bottle by now. I hope someone finds him because he's absent again for Leeds. Leeds lines up 4-1-4-1 today, Meslier; Dallas, Llorente, Cooper, Struijk; Phillips, Rapha, Forshaw, Klitch, James; Roberts.

3:25 PM
Blogger gooner71 said...

Ooooh, Dallas's cross goes begging, just. Rapha was closest to it but no.

3:27 PM
Blogger gooner71 said...

And now Forshaw hits it through a sea of legs and just wide.

It's not all Leeds, but so far their threat has been limited to Zaha's free-kick appeals, and the friendly Yellow Lab runs from side to side from Gallagher.

3:32 PM
Blogger gooner71 said...

Palace's threat that is. And Ayew and Edoard are being dealt with by Struijk and Llorente and Cooper.

3:35 PM
Blogger gooner71 said...

Pascal's challenge on Ayew looked really clumsy. Kevin Friend lets it go, but Ayew and Zaha are apoplectic. Paddy's giving the 4th official an earful too.

3:38 PM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

Hiya, chaps - I'm back from my class and settling in to watch the match now. How has it been going?

3:39 PM
Blogger gooner71 said...

Very even up to now, with Palace coming back into it. James and Forshaw have had the best chances, and Rapha should be doing a bit more.

3:40 PM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

Looks like we're dominating possession but Palace are trying to hit with their speed merchants on the break.

3:43 PM
Blogger gooner71 said...

Meslier punches a catchable ball because I think his momentum might have carried him out of his area. A young keeper's improvisation.

3:43 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Good afternoon, Bob and Steve. Back from running some errands on a very chaotic day. I see it's still 0-0

3:43 PM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

I'm happy to see Pascal Struijk in at left back. He was much better at handling the wing backs on Saturday; Firpo was atrocious.

3:44 PM
Blogger gooner71 said...

Forshaw's late challenge may be the last one that Friend lets go.

3:45 PM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

Welcome, David - I've just got here. Steve has been manning the LOB in the first period. Very even so far, it seems.

3:46 PM
Blogger gooner71 said...

I agree Bob. I think you signed Firpo's evil non-footballing twin and the one you thought you were getting is trapped in his brother's dungeon.

3:46 PM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

Zaha is making himself a nuisance, as usual.

3:47 PM
Blogger gooner71 said...

Hellos chaps. Glad you're here.

3:47 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Thanks, Bob and Steve. COME ON LEEDS! MOT!

3:47 PM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

I don't know - it just seemed that he was running through the proverbial treacle (or in his case cassava pudding) against Brighton wingback. Frightening.

3:48 PM
Blogger gooner71 said...

If by nuisance you mean throwing himself to the floor every time he holds onto the ball far too long, yes. He's an utter waster. I'm tired of him being in the division.

3:48 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Still 0-0 in the Loser's Bowl match , Canaries vs Toon. Canaries now third from bottom there points behind Leeds. An hour ion to that match

3:49 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Zaha also throws a temper tantrum every time something doesn't go his way and he calls that passion. Definitely a waster but could be so much better. However he chooses not to do so

3:51 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Joel Ward booking for pulling down Dan James

3:52 PM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

Very difficult role for Dan James tonight - he's not a natural target man. I would like to see Bielsa try Gelhardt there and move James to his natural position out wide.

3:53 PM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

0-0 is the perfect scoreline there.

3:53 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Cally Wilson gives ten man Toon the lead from the spot. Toon headed for their first win of the season. They , Burnley , and Canaries all four points behind Leeds

3:53 PM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

Joe Ward goes into the book - he's always good for one.

3:54 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

A Toon win may be better than a draw because Leeds currently four points clear of the drop zone and they would be three clear if it's a draw at SJP

3:54 PM
Blogger gooner71 said...

Zaha should give up and move to NY Red Balls where they appreciate has-been losers like BWP. I'mm so tired of him an his antics.

Palace's Yellow Lab gets a ticket. Bad boy. Sit!

And another yellow card, this time for Connor Gallagher now. Lovely.

3:55 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Paddy Viera may have done something unpopular in Dahlgren Derbies of yesteryear. That's my best guess

3:56 PM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

Oh dear - what was that from Raph!

3:56 PM
Blogger gooner71 said...

Paddy wore out his Em walcome with his summer "shall-I-go, shall I stay" antics that denied us the payday we needed to replace him. And for not putting Roy Keane's lights out in the tunnel.

3:57 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Struijch booked for a challenge on Jordan Ayew. A bit harsh as he barely touched him and got the ball

3:57 PM

Bit of a clash now between Struijk and Ayew now - Struijk receives a yellow. A flutter of cards in recent moments.

Now we just need to do the biz in the second half. Come on, you Whites!

Two changes at half time from the boss - Rodrigo in for Klich and Firpo in for Struijk, who picked up a knock in the first half.

4:19 PM

I won't miss the Tynesaudis one little bit.

4:19 PM

Rodrigo and Junior Struijched and Kliched on the pitch as Bielsa has made a double substitution. Second half underway from ER

Let's hope Firpo is off the horse tranquilizers at this point.

Won't miss them either or Sean Dyche's goblins. I feel sorry for Norwich, but not that sorry.

4:20 PM
Blogger gooner71 said...

I was worried that Pascal was only looking to make it through the first half. Maybe the introduction of Rodders will make up for Firpo's introduction.

4:20 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Half a dozen stoppage time minutes at SJP

4:20 PM
Blogger gooner71 said...

Good grief, that's only 2 minutes Firpo! Chrissakes.

4:21 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Jordan Ayew goes on a run and Junior Firpo booked immediately after coming on. Not the impact desired buy LUFC fans. Free kick just outside the Leeds box

4:22 PM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

Firpo played us into trouble and then trips up Ayew. Not an auspicious start from the kid. Dangerous free kick now.

4:22 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Into the wall by Connor Gallagher then the volley from Zaha high and wide. Haha!

4:23 PM

Into the wall and Zaha hoiks it over the bar from the rebound. Alright now, let's stop effing about.

4:23 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Jordan Ayew down off the challenge from Forshaw as Kevin Friend played the advantage. Not sure if Forshaw will be booked

4:24 PM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

Forshaw's probably going to get booked for that late one on Kouyate. He's still down.

4:24 PM
Blogger gooner71 said...

Phew. The Yellow Lab hits his free attempt hard into the wall.

I'm amused at Kevin Friend's shaving cream can. Instead of a stripe to mark where the kick needs to be taken, it's depositing a big poo shaped dump.

4:24 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Kevin's not being a friend with the shaving cream can

4:25 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

My mistake . The Coyote was down, not Aye. Does Adam Forshaw not care for Coyotes

4:26 PM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

I haven't noticed Kal Phillips at all today; he's really out of sorts these days. The grapevine says that he's had a bust up with Bielsa. I think that Leeds fans will have to get used to the idea of his leaving in January.

4:26 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

OH! Rodrigo shoots wide with just the keeper to break off a great pass from Dan James on the break. James received a nice long ball from the back

4:27 PM
Blogger gooner71 said...

Oooooh! Rodders spurns the best chance at either end this match.

4:27 PM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

Oh - Rodrigo had a great chance to flick it into the right corner but he tried to round the keeper. Wrong choice.

4:27 PM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

Kouyate bowls over Rodrigo and we have a free kick chance now out wide left.

4:28 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

It finished 1-1 at SJP. Toon still winless and remain bottom. Canaries now third from bottom , moving ahead of Burnley.Leeds three points clear of the drop zone, but it would have been four if the Toon had won

4:28 PM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

Oh - now James has a half-chance from the free kick. Nice interplay between Raph and Firpo.

4:29 PM
Blogger gooner71 said...

That's interesting. I've been trying to square Kai's performances with Leeds with his recent form for England. But I hadn't heard he and Marcelo were feuding.

4:30 PM

That's the best result for us in that one, with both relegation threatened clubs dropping points against each other.

4:30 PM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

Oh - Forshaw with a chance now; deflected shot into Guaita's arms. Better from us.

4:31 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

I had not heard that either, but would explain his poor run of form with Leeds this season. Not sure where Kai would head in January. Perhaps OT?
