Post-Thanksgiving Footer!
Morning, chaps! I hope you all had a marvelous Thanksgiving. I'm settling in for the usual early Saturday morning footer watching. It all starts in a moment with Arsenal v. Newcastle. Of course, I'm hoping that the Gunners can do my Leeds boys a favor by hammering the Magpies. That leads up to our usual 10am kickoffs, including third-place Liverpool v. Southampton. The big one for me at least is the late one on NBC featuring my beloved Leeds visiting the South Coast to meet Brighton. The Amex hasn't been a happy hunting ground for us of late and Graham Potter really had Marcelo Bielsa's number last season. But I'm hoping that we can turn that around starting today.
Join me for all the action, won't you?

The omens are good for Arsenal this morning. In the past ten matches at the Emirates have beaten Newcastle ten times, racking up a 29-4 goal difference. I'll take another win this morning, ta very much.

Subs: Clark, Lewis, Hayden, Hendrick, Manquillo, Murphy, Almiron, Darlow, Longstaff.
Referee: Stuart Attwell (Warwickshire).
Eddie Howe is fresh out of Covid quarantine and is taking his place on the Newcastle bench for the first time. And we're set to go.
Good Morning, Bob. Here to join you for Thanksgiving footie. After the past year and a half , thankful we even have footie to watch
About a couple of minutes into the match
How was your Thanksgiving?
The Toon have been singing well off key as they're rock bottom this season
Morning, David - we had a very relaxing and quiet Thanksgiving here in WNY. How about you two?
Let's hope the Toon keep singing those off-key numbers this morning.
There were eight of us at Thanksgiving , which was very relaxing , thank you for asking. Glad yours was too.
I agree, Bob. One of those off key number s is 4, LOL!
Tavares got into a decent position on the by-line, but couldn't then find a teammate with his cross.
That's a decent crew around the Thanksgiving table - well done!
Callum Wilson nearly got the best of Gabriel but fortunately was called back for an infraction.
The Arsenal passing isn't really clicking quite yet.
Cheers, Bob. I miscalculated. It was actually nine, of which , Elizabeth, the girls, and I were four.
Who were your guests on Thursday?
Oh - lovely floated ball by Lakonga and Saka got beyond Ritchie but couldn't find a shot on target.
Nice cros field lob, Nkonga, and an out stretched Saka stabs the shot wide with just Dubravka to beat
Matt Ritchie is likely to have a torrid time with the England youngster today - or I hope he will.
We were at my sister-in law's house ,which is a quarter of a mile down the subdivision. The other people at the dinner were my sister-in-law, her boyfriend, her son, her son's girlfriend, and a nephew from Mexico
Former Gunner Joe Willock hauls down Odegaard and Arsenal have a tasty free kick position at the top of the D.
Excellent. Did you have the traditional fare?
A smelly foul from Joe Willock on Odor Guard on his return to the EM
Oh - great free kick by Odegaard but Dubravka did even better to reach it.
OH > Dubravka pushes away thew free kick with a great save then cleared
Yes ,it was pretty much a traditional meal other than the fact that one turkey was traditional and one was smoked. All the sides were traditional.
Did you and Kate have a traditional meal?
Tim Ream has given the Cottagers the lead at PNE, which is proof that anyone can do well with coaching from Bob and Kate. Would Steve concur?
Jean Michel Seri with the assist. Does that mean that Tim Ream used GPS?
Newcastle are appealing for a pen for a handball off Tomayasu, but that would have been very harsh.
Sty. Max goes on a run off a poor Gunners clearance and wins a corner off of Tommy Yasoo
Corner from Matt Lionel Ritchie headed over at the near post
The Cottagers are now top, four points clear off the Cherries, who play later this morning
Tavares had a go with his right peg from distance and it was well wide.
Long shot from Tavares well wide. Not any better than the disco group from the late 70s
Fulham are trying to establish themselves in the yo-yo club alongside Norwich and WBA.
Oh - Ramsdale with a wonderful save onto the bar from that strike from Shelvy.
OH! Ramsdale turns over a long range rocket on to the bar and over for a corner. What an acrobatic save
Another troublesome Shelvy drive. He can knock that right off.
Corner headed out then a cross head out then another long range shot from Shelvey, but straight to Ramsdale this time
Oh - now Tomayasu shoots just wide of the near post.
Then Wide by Tommy Yasoo for the Gunners. Not a great angle for a shot
Talking about the Baggies, they were held 0-0 by Forest yesterday. Still third, but could be as low as fifth later today
The Baggies will be in amongst it at the end of the season.
The current top three in the Championship are the three I picked to go up. But for that, I would be fighting a relegation battle in the PPP.
Toon's next two matches vs Burnley and the Canaries. Those could left them off the foot of the table.
Bloody hell - how did that stay out?
I'm hoping of course that both of those are draws.
OH . World save by Dubravka off a header from Smith the wa sRowed then a superb double with aa close range block from Aubama,. Great cross from Saka
Dubravka hold his ribs for his troubles.
The rebound was actually a missed sitter from Alabama as his shot came off the post from a couple of yards out
Leeds have a crucial period in the next week. We need at least seven points from our next three matches - away to Brighton today, at home to Palace on Tuesday and at home again to Brentford next weekend. That would put us onto 18 points before a really brutal schedule over Christmas where we meet Chelsea, City and Liverpool away and Arsenal at home.
Matt Ritchioe booked for holding back a Gunner on a counter . Was more like Lionel on that challenge. He's suspended for the midweek Prom match
WOW! Leeds definitely need points from the next three matches.. We will be in NC for the holiday fixtures.
Coming up on half-time now - an Arsenal goal would be lovely right about now.
Nice slide tackle by Sonny and Cher on Saka .Same number of stoppage time minutes as the number of points the Toon nghavl and the number own their shirt
My mistake . The Ton had half a dozen points entering this match
Cottagers one up at the half at Deepdale
It's 0-0 at the end of a frustrating half for the Gunners
Back on for the second half now - come on, you Gunners!
The second half is underway from the EM
Yeah - the Toon have been the draw specialists this season, drawing half of their matches to date but failing to win any of them.
Emile Kraft picks up a yellow for a body check on Tavares.
I don't know about you, but I'm pretty sure I hear cursing in the streets of Alex
That was more about Grafth than Krafth, mate?
Peter Gabriel was not actually a Sledge Hammer as he headed stright to Dubravka off a corner that was Rowed in by Emile Smith
Will you be around for the match Tuesday from ER or will you be teaching?
Dubravka with a comfortable save from Saka after he cut in to shoot
Oh - Saka did really well to jink his way inside the box but then he got greedy and shot on goal rather than teeing up his teammate Aubama.
Kraft foul Smith-Rowe now - he's on the edge of a red card now.
Great ball in from Saka - it only needed a touch.
GOAL! Saka finally does the business for the Gunners. I really needed that one.
GOAL ! WHAT A GREAT FINISH FROM SAKA FROM A REALLY NARROW ANGLE. GRETA PASS FROM TAVARES OFF A NICE PASSING POSSESSION FROM THE GUNNERS,
Lovely team move there from the Gunners and Saka, who's been the live wire in this half, made no mistake with the finish.
Great pass from Emile Smith Rowed to Tavares prior to the goal
Bob, since Tavares ahas the assist , that calls for you a Toon from you from a Tavares disco song. What do you think?
Talking about Toons. Tommy Yasoo wins a corner off of Lionel Ritchie
Nice sweet sixteen pass move for the goal according to Peter Dreary
Saka's got a problem now - make need to come off for treatment.
The electricity just went out. I'm typing on my phone
Uh oh - are you having storms?
Saka limps off then. Martinelli to replace him.
Newcastle making a double channge - both Almiron and Murphy coming on.
Oh - Callum Wilson was away there and wanted a pen when he took a tumble. Dicey.
Oh - what a gorgeous goal from Martinelli!
2-0!
Gunners two up. Congratulations, Bob and Steve
Ramsdale's got Shelvy's number today - another shot, another save.
Hey Boys
Sorry I am on the fringes today of LOB
I will try and be here for the Leeds battle!
MOT
No weather issues. Not sure why the power went out. According to the customer service rep. I'm the only caller to report an outage
Oh - Newcastle broke there and Murphy threaded one across the six-yard box. Only needed a touch.
Morning, Dave! Hope everything's going well.
PNE ties it up vs the Cottagers
Good morning, Dave. Hope you and the family had a Happy Thanksgiving.
This is an acceptable result. It will keep Newcastle rooted to the bottom, on six points from 13. That's relegation form for sure.
VAR check on that challenge by Lascelles on Martinelli now. He didn't get any ball.
That's it - Arsenal rack up another win and a clean sheet to boot. They're temporarily up into 5th now. Wolves can, and I hope will, close the gap on them with a win at Norwich.
Some chocolate banana pancakes have arrived at my set - lovely!
Okay then - it's time to handicap the 10 o'clockers. Looking through a Leeds lens, here's what we need.
Palace v. Villa - draw
Liverpool v. Soton - Pool win
Norwich v. Wolves - Wolves away win
Make it so!
The power is back on. I will be out for the first half of the 10 AM matches , but should be back for the second half.
We're away at Carrow Road then. Here are the line-ups:
Norwich: Krul, Aarons, Hanley, Gibson, Williams, Gilmour, Normann, McLean, Rashica, Pukki, Sargent.
Subs: Rupp, Dowell, Cantwell, Tzolis, Lees-Melou, Gunn, Giannoulis, Idah, Omobamidele.
Wolves: Jose Sa, Kilman, Coady, Saiss, Nelson Semedo, Neves, Joao Moutinho, Ait Nouri, Trincao, Jimenez, Hwang.
Subs: Hoever, Marcal, Moulden, Silva, Ruddy, Dendoncker, Traore, Cundle.
Referee: Simon Hooper (Wiltshire)
Quick start from the Canaries - their tails will be up after those two wins on the trot.
The American international Josh Sargent has a chance but leans back on it. Bright stuff from the home side.
Wolves do like to play on the backfoot and launch breaks. They're not the most honest side.
That didn't take long - Liverpool have taken the lead against Soton in the second minute through Diogo Jota.
That goal jumps Liverpool up into second on 28 points, just a point behind Chelsea on top.
Better from Wolves now - they're starting to quiet the crowd.
Swansea City and Reading have traded early goals at the Liberty Stadium, where Jamie Paterson put the Swans in front after three minutes, only for Tom Dele-Bashiru to equalize for the visitors a minute later.
Sadio Mane has an effort ruled out for offside after heading home a free-kick curled in from the left.
That's not good - Matt Targett has fired Stevie G's new look Villa into the lead against Palace, who are Leeds' opponents on Tuesday.
Pukki was in there but Coady did enough to put him off.
Norwich now level with Burnley on 9 points but with far inferior goal difference.
Better period for Norwich - troubling.
Looks like a nasty day out in the driving rain for the Norwich fans and any Wolves fans unlucky to decide on an away day.
Normann isn't able to continue and is traded for Rupp.
Lovely! Jota has a brace now and Soton have a mountain to climb.
Soton now in 14th on 14 points and -4 GD. A win for us today at Brighton would pull us level with them.
I could use goals from Palace and Wolves right about now.
Tyrone Mings nearly extends Villa lead - not good.
3-0 Liverpool now - Thiago with their third. They have been rampant recently.
Oh - I would have loved to see that Conor Coady volley fly in the top corner.
Oh - Arons was in there but Rui Patricio did so well to block it.
Sorry - that's Sa in the Wolves goal.
Nearly half time now at Carrow Road - not happy with this one quite yet.
The teams are back out for the second half.
Virgil has added a fourth for Pool and the Soton players will just want to get back on the coach about now.
This one at Carrow Road could still swing with either way. Not good.
The team news out of the Leeds camp is good. Rodrigo, Firpo and most crucially Raphinha are all back in the pink today. Lord Bamford is getting closer to returning. He'll likely be back for the brutal holiday season stretch.
The starting XI for the Leeds boys today:
Meslier, Firpo, Coop, Llorente, Dallas, Kal, Forshaw, Rodrigo, Jack, Raph, James.
Villa are still leading at Palace - not good for us. That said, Palace might be underconfident coming into Tuesday's match at ER.
Wolves still pressing for a winner here. That would really be a tonic.
Adama Traore on for a late cameo now - maybe he can make the difference.
Josh Sargent gets the hook.
Oh - Pukki was in there but Sa stood up well to him.
Norwich really pouring it on now.
Wahay - Douglas Luiz has just come on for Villa and he's got a straight red. Hopefully that will give Palace the impetus they need to grab an equalizer.
Samedo coming off now and Dendooncker coming on. He might be good for a late one.
The red card for Douglas Luiz has been rescinded and Villa are restored to a full 11.
Oh - a big chance for Brook but he fluffed his lines. Sa collects easily.
A late burst now from Wolves. COYW!
Raul had a chance on the turn there but was just put off by Arons.
Oh - a late miss from Pukki. He could have had two or three today. I'm glad that he didn't.
John McGinn has added a second goal for Villa. Not a great result for Leeds but I'm hopeful that Palace will be donw in the dumps for Tuesday's match now.
Palace have got a goal back in stoppage time. Could it be possible...!
Norwich and Wolves have shared the spoils in the end at Carrow Road. Norwich are up to 9 points level with Burnley but with inferior GD, only two points behind Leeds now.
Villa have wrapped up their first win under Stevie G. Grrr!
I'm back for the late match. Hope Leeds stuff those Seagulls who need to be plummeted rapidly from their lofty perch.
Welcome back, mate - how's your day been?
Arlo and Le Sox look really chilly today at the Amex.
It’s ten years to the day since the passing of Leeds legend Gary Speed, one of the stars of that 1991-92 championship side. He’s in everyone’s thoughts today, with players and fans alike wearing t-shirts in his memory.
Thank you, Bob. We took Melanie out to breakfast and she just left for San Marcos. Between that , the earlier power outage ,and her showing me and email about her flight from Austin that was scheduled for a fortnight from tomorrow being canceled, it's being a chaotic morning. Hopefully we can reschedule.
The passing of Gary Speed was a tragedy. Definitely in our thoughts today
How has your day been?
Teams in the tunnel now - come on, you Leeds boys! MOT!
Hey boys
I join you as the teams are in the tunnel
Come on you LILACS!!
Busy morning doing stuff around the house
Also, our dryer just conked out....got go pick up a new one!
Doing alright, mate. The results haven't exactly gone my way but I'm hopeful for this one. If we can get a point, then it'll be a good day for us.
The match will be on the local NBC. Time to switch over.
Welcome back, Dave - it does sound like a busy day. Sorry to hear about your dryer.
Welcome back, Dave. Sorry about the dryer,.
Hiya Chaps! Fresh from the bone-sawing we administered to the Tynesaudis this morning, I'm here to see someone, anyone to put a pasting on that horrible little farce Maupay. MOT!
The bills just keep on rolling in!
Becky just reminded us that the Seagulls did the double river Leeds last season and Musty says it will have a bearing on the result today. Hopefully, musty will be forced to eat his words.
Making the switch now and we're on NBC for the kick-off. Come on, you Leeds! MOT!!!!!
Good morning, Steve. Congratulations on the victory over the 4s.
NBC finally join
Leeds need a lovely win here..back to back away games for Leeds. Are they home for a couple
Midweek matches today
Let's win one for Gary Speed!
Come to think of it, United will have played back to back on the road
Yeah - we've got back to back home matches against Palace and Brentford to come this week before the holiday horror show starts. Must get wins from those.
Sorry about that , Dave. Elizabeth and I are stressing over the moving expenses we will have.
Kind of surprised to see the #1 commentary team down in Brighton today. I assumed that Arlo and his stat sheet would be deployed in S. London tomorrow.
They're off from the AMEX. COME ON LEEDS!
I'm guessing they're at the AMEX because it's the late Saturday match . I can't think of another reason
United host Arsenal on Thursday and then Palace on Sunday
Leeds host Palace and Brentford
We're wearing our purply away kit today - not my favorite. I prefer the blue one but that would clash.
Does the 4 on the Toon shirts represent the number of LOBers blogging today?
Not a long trip from the Amex to SB
Neil Maupay has a bit of needle with us that goes back to his days with Brentford. Not sure what it is but it's noticeable whenever we play the Seagulls.
Sounds like you didn't feel too rosy about those Lilac shirts . I can't say as I blame you.,
What the hell is wrong with Bamford....when is he coming back!!
These kits don't clash as much as they should
Moder volleys over a cross. Glad Scully wasn't on the end of that. He really should have scored.
We're on the backfoot early on. Good move from Brighton and we were lucky not to concede.
Shame Bob doesn't like the kit...I bought him the shirt for Christmas and the shorts and socks for his birthday
Back they go to the store
Brighton really have their tails up - don't like it.
Early booking for Junior Firpo for a late foul on Lamptey. He will need to be careful the rest of the match
Sorry to hear about your dryer. Ours went out too, but it was a stackable washer/dryer that's 25 years old. We're looking for a new set, but the ones they make now are too tall for us. We'd have to raise the basement ceiling to fit the new ones in. We do the wash over at my mother in laws for now.
LOL! Nice one, Dave!
Welcome, Steve!
Bob may look good in Lilac. That's a shame indeed.
Come on - get the passing right!
Struth.... big mix by Maupay
Oh - Maupay misses an absolute sitter!
We haven't gotten off the coach yet. What was Firpo doing standing around?
A right balls up of a finish from my bete noire.
Yikes Steve!
I can hear Steve snickering all the way from South texas. Nice run and pass from Lamptey that came off a Seagull and Maupay shot over from three yards out with just the keeper to beat
Seagulls could have been two up already
Bielsa not on his bucket, but standing with his cup of Starbucks.
Long curler shot from Maupay straight to compatriot, Meslier.
Maupay tries a curler now but Meslier is right behind it.
Oh - Raph nearly played Dan James in.
