The Dahlgren Derby!
The rest of the Premier League may have caught a case of the Omicron, but the Dahlgren boys are made of stronger stuff. So, it's Leeds v. Arsenal at Elland Road this afternoon live on the NBC network. My beloved Whites are coming off a 7-0 spanking at the hands of Man City and have eight starters out. Arsenal, on the other hand, are on a great run of form that has landed them in a Champions League spot. Fortunately, my patented mid-table obscurity rubric indicates that we don't need anything today, so I'm just hoping for a fun and open game with some goals - and no more injuries!
Join me from 12:30pm onward.

Afternoon, chaps. it's Dahlgren Derby Day! I hope you'll join me for this one.
I'm very proud of our boss Marcelo Bielsa. When asked whether it's unfair that we have to play today, despite having 10 players out for injury, he said clearly, "no, it's not unfair." Come on!
The team news out of Elland Road:
Leeds United: Meslier, Drameh, Ayling, Koch, Klich, Dallas, Forshaw, Raphinha, Roberts, Harrison, Gelhardt.
Subs: Klaesson, Bate, Summerville, Greenwood, McCarron, Jenkins, Moore, Kenneh, Gray.
Arsenal: Ramsdale, Tomiyasu, White, Gabriel, Tierney, Saka, Partey, Xhaka, Martinelli, Odegaard, Lacazette.
Subs: Leno, Smith Rowe, Holding, Cedric, Pepe, Tavares, Chambers, Elneny, Nketiah.
Referee: Andre Marriner (West Midlands).
It's a real make-shift side for us today. I expect our Academy youngster Cody Drammeh to slot in at right back, Luke Ayling will push over to partner Robin Koch, who's deputizing for Llorente and Cooper who are both injured. Matty Klich is in for the injured Firpo. Forshaw will play the Kal Phillips role, Stu Dallas will be freed to push a bit forward. Raph and Jack will provide the width, while Tyler will play in the hole and young Joe Gelhardt will get another start up front.
Good Afternoon, Bob. It still looks like a decent Leeds lineup. I'll be rooting for an entertaining match
Still not sure how the Scottish leagues have been able to play 100%of the matches. Is Omnicron under control north of the border?
Good Afternoon Boys
What the hell....Why are Leeds in BLACK!!! They are at home!!!!
Tractor Boys drew 1-1 with the Black Cats in Kieran McKenna's first match in charge
Good Afternoon, Dave. That's a great question
Apparently, McKenna doesn't take over until Monday
Drives me nuts...BOTH teams changing kits!
I can understand that Arsenal should change but not both!
Of course, in the 72 Cup Final....they both wore their traditional kits
Could Leeds just be warming up in black?
A great noise from the crowd as the sides are coming out at Elland Road. I expect a response.
Arsenal coming out of the tunnel in blue shorts
Leeds have to be in white.... PHEW....they are
That was a warm up kit
I understand the shirts being different but the players had to change shorts and socks
ER is rocking!
Welcome, boys - I hope you're having a festive Saturday. I appreciate your joining me for this one.
Go on, Joffy - I love this kid. Definitely a star for the future. He really reminds me of a young Wayne Rooney. Totally fearless.
There is a video put out by Gary Lineker today about the running order for Match of the Day tonight
First game
Leeds v Arsenal
Last game
Leeds v Arsenal
Danny Murphy and Martin Keown will be discussing
Leeds v Arsenal
A return to Elland Road for Ben White who was terrific in our promotion season.
Best of Luck both Dahlgren boys but I am selfishly in the white corner today
We are off
And we're away at Elland Road - come on, you Whites!
Early corner won by Stu Dallas. Come on!
Good by Leeds.... Not very impressive by Arsenal
Corner
It's the modern game so the chance is over
A header.... over the bar
Raph gets his head onto it from the corner but it's well over.
I appreciate the support, Dsve, even if it is selfish.
Great save by Messi but how was that second shot not put in!!
Can't even show highlight and they have to save again!!
Oh - bloody hell - that' a great save by Meslier and then Saka must score there. Phew!
STRUTH.... Arsenal look like they are going to score every time they go forward and they KEEP losing possession!!
We need to settle down - the first few minutes were good but we're playing purely with our hearts.
Leeds try and play out again.... I JUST DON'T GET IT!!
Now Tierney has a go from distance and Meslier smothers it.
A really bright opening to this match - it's going to be entertaining, that's for sure.
What's Arteta going on about?
Back from lunch. No telly for three weeks
Tomayasu with his knee into Jack's back. That didn't feel good.
I'm neutral today. Just want a good match
Hands off, Joffy!
Leeds man has possession in the box...and passes out!
Don't get it!!
We need a Leeds win to keep Arsenal is range for United!!
It has been good so far. I'm really enjoying it.
Based on the stats it looks like the Gunners are dominating
Good point, Dave. I'm in the Leeds corner, but just.
I think so but the commentator thinks Leeds are doing well
Goal for the Gunners
Wasn't that a foul just before the shot?
Stupid at the back again
Bugger! A number of mix-ups there but Martinelli finally nets one despite Meslier's efforts.
what the hell is Forshaw doing that in his own box!!!!
Stu Dallas took one to the back of the head while he was prone on the ground. He'll need a bit of time and treatment here.
I thought that was a foul by Laca on Forshaw.
I cannot stand EVERY time teams play out from the back. Maybe I am old school but it is moronic!
This ref seems to be an Arsenal fan tonight
Another good save by Meslier
Oh - I thought that strike from Tierney was going in but Meslier turned it around.
What is going with Leeds!!!
I know they have a lot of injuries but COME ON!
Leeds break....Raph....hits it wide!!
SHOULD HAVE SCORED!
Oh - Raph on the break there. Lovely stuff from him but his final shot was just wide.
We had these matches last season as well, you have to remember. Arsenal beat us 5-1, you lot 6-2.
Just got back from taking Elizabeth and Jacquelyn to Dollar General. The Lake looks like someone boiling soup
Again...out of the back...LOST
PLEASE EXPLAIN...SOMEONE
I've explained the idea of playing out of the back before - it's so that you aren't just surrendering possession again and again by hoofing it long.
I missed the goal but read in LA Cazette that there wasn't any foul on the goal, but sloppy defending
Bugger! Martinelli streaks through again and finishes well.
0-2.
Two nil Gunners
ANOTHER MISTAKE....STUPID BALL
This holiday period was always going to be brutal for us - we just have to remember that there are winnable games to come.
That makes no sense to me
Playing out from the back loses possession a high percentage of the time and MEGA dangerous!
I guess I should just stop watching!
Harrison already coming off
Both Leeds goals came from losing possession in their own half
Lose it the other half...no goal
Looks like Crysencio Summerville will replace Jack who hasn't recovered from that earlier knock.
I HATE POSSESSION CRAP!
Pep doesn't like to cross the ball from out wide because you could lose possession....YOU COULD SCORE!
Yes, but the theory is that the opposition just keep coming back at you.
Gunners two up.Martinelli at the double. Sorry, Bob
I'll stop commenting about it....sorry
Tyler works an angle to shoot but then fires well wide. He looks injured as well!
what is going on at the bench?
I'm not saying that I totally agree with it, but I can see the logic in playing out from the back if you can do it. I'm just not sure that we can with this line-up.
But I don't want us to play like Burnley. I'd rather we play our game and lose honestly then just try to park the bus.
I can't get the Match to load on my phone. Sounds like I'm better off not watching
Not sure what's happening now.
That's true. Leeds always try to play the right way. Unfortunately some of the youngsters may not be ready for that
No - it's been an entertaining first half. In truth, I didn't expect to get anything from this. Once we get beyond the Liverpool match on Boxing Day, we get Villa and Burnley at home. There are must wins.
Oh - great save by Meslier!
Villa will be tough
Raph is giving the ball away too much trying to play Hollywood passes every time.
I read that Tyler Robert's was injured. The update just posted
I agree. Villa much improved with the arrival of Stevie G
I just read that Meslier was forced to make another save due to another Leeds mistake at the back
The commentators just want us to play old-school, but we're not going to do it. In Bielsa We Trust.
Are you reading those updates in La Cazette?
you didn't play like this last season
STRUTH !
Sorry mate!!
Saka made a mistake with the break and Leeds still allowed him to take a shot
-10 goals in less that a game and half !
VAR checking something
It counts
BUGGER! Saka puts Leeds three up.Sorry, Bob
No Comment
The only updates I read in LA Cazette were the second Gunners goal and a save from Meslier shortly after that
Thanks, mate - this could get ugly.
these goals help Arsenal on the GD who were behind Utd
YIKES! Meslier has made eight saves. But for him this would be a cricket score
Half time....Game of two halves?
The Gunners three up at the half. What will Bielsa say during his halftime talk
I'm back from a lunch break to follow the second half. We've got quite a hole to dig out of now.
Xhaka should have got a yellow card for not backing away.
That could have been red!
Raph hasn't recovered from that one; it was nasty.
I am back after lunch
VAR checking a tackle? .... surely at least a yellow
What's Xhaka grinning about?
I was never worried about Leeds going down but today might have changed my mind
HOW was that challenge not looked at....VAR is so inconsistent
Now he is going to get a yellow?
Xhaka is there wanting a card!!
I just don't get it!
Now Arsenal are bellowing for a card for Joffy. Really unfair.
I don't get Arsenal players complaining after their player did it even worse
What is Mariner or VAR doing?
I don't know why today would change your mind. As long as we're getting points against the lower half sides, which we've been doing, we'll be alright.
Why does the color guy keep insisting that Meslier wants a transfer to Liverpool. Why would he want to go there - he would never play!
Back into the second half in the hopes that Leeds improve
Oh - that was a lovely ball across the area by Klich - someone should have been following in.
I think he is talking about Raphina
For some reason, United are interested in Meslier
Now Stu Dallas goes into the book for an innocuous push. Ridiculous!
Sorry about the Xakha Khan call. I feel for you, Bob
Now Stu Dallas is down nursing his side.
What happened to Dallas now?
Cheers, David. We're hanging in there.
Meslier would not get playing time at either United or Pool
Leeds blow that break there!
The ball in from the left was all wrong!
Tyler works an angle but then blasts over while off balance.
Dallas has come back on, fortunately.
In the last match and a half Leeds have been shaved as bald as Bob's head
what is the deal with Bamford?
Came back from injury to score the equalizer and now out again!
Phillips out for 8 games!!!
We're starting to play a bit now, as Arsenal take their foot off the gas.
Trying to send vibes for any sort of Leeds comeback
The silly sod injured his hamstring in the goal celebration!
Yeah - we had three hamstring injuries - Coop, Kal and Bamford - in that Brentford match.
Another terrible decision by Mariner.... only game in town and you're letting everyone see your crapiness
How ridiculous to do that celebrating a goal!
Bit more attacking from us now but Arsenal will probably pick up another on the break.
Geez....that sums up Leeds day there!
I can only imagine what the boss had to say to him about it. What phrase would you use in Spanish, David?
Totally agree with you about Andre Marriner.
Saka hits one inches wide
Oh - Saka nearly with a fourth there.
Twenty minutes left.....Leeds to score four
That would be lovely, Dave.
IT'S LEEDS TIME
Leeds do a Newcastle vs the Gunners
Leeds trying to do do too much.... just get it near the goal and SHOOT
Cheers!
I'm not sure that you want to say that to Tyler Roberts.
Breaking news....Mariner calls a foul in Leeds direction!
Roberts does shoot...but it's a backless
There's your Tyler Robert shot on goal, Dave.
OMG...Mariner points to the spot
Stonewall
Raphina to take...scores....comeback on
Great spot kick
They should be playing against 10
EVERYONE should take a pen like that!
None would be missed
Back from a research project Elizabeth gave me. We found a Sears Coldspot freezer in the garage
Another break.... Roberts plays a lazy pass and the chance goes
WHAT A WASTE!
I had some technical difficulties during that action but i was delighted to see Joffy earn us a pen and Raph to slot home. A glimmer of hope?
Young Sam Greenwood coming on for his debut replacing Joffy.
Not sure what Bielsa said in Spanish. The dialect in South America is different so I'm not sure what bad words he might have used.
Barca were 2-0 up Elche at home
Goals in the 61st and 63rd minute and it is Desmond
I LOVE Barca struggling!!
Out of the Champions League....not in the qualifying spots either!
Might have said Juega con orgulloso. Play with pride.
Forshaw elbows The Gazette just
Mariner better not keep it going and rooting for Arsenal
Barca plays Napoli in the EL Round of 32.No guarantee of advancing.
Odegaard was hurt not the Gazette
Last change for us - Liam McCarrin coming on to replace the first half sub Summerville? Huh?
I was thinking more like, "Eres un gran idiota" (thanks to Google translator for that one.).
Elche just above the drop zone
Bugger...sorry mate
Bugger! A lovely move from Arsenal and Emile Smith-Rowe slips in to score a fourth.
Scottish under 21 international, Liam McCarron, on for Summerville for his Leeds debut. Was signed from Carlisle two years ago
Sorry, Bob. Now 4-1
Nice Spanish, Bob. I would change to Todos son idiotas. That would be plural instead of singular
The Gazette goes down like he is shot
GROW UP!
Oh dear - an off the ball incident now between Koch and Lacazette.
Now Koch is going to get a yellow. Silly one - he's just frustrated.
FOTMOB says it's still 1-3
There is a card ....Mariner has been so inconsistent except for letting Arsenal get away with a lot
I read something about childish behavior while reading La Cazette. The headline said L'Enfant
This commentator needs to stop talking about us going down.
Now FOTMOB says 1-4.
Agreed. Poor form from the commentator
And now he's hoping for a fifth goal from Arsenal!
Steve must be delighted with the score
The reason for the three losses on the trot is about the schedule, not about our form. If we'd played, say, Newcastle and Leicester away and then Burnley at home this week, it would have been different.
Leeds fans doing club proud
Marvelous support from the Elland Road faithful. Any other set of supporters would be booing now.
And Pool coming up
Media won't make that point Bob
It's over and the Gunners win 1-4.Sorry, Bob. Congratulations, Steve
Congrats Steve
Commiserations Bob
I think I'll be around tomorrow
TTFN
That's it - another loss for us, with probably another one to come on Boxing Day. It leaves us on 16 points now from 18 matches. In 16th, still five points off relegation.
Thanks for hanging in there with me, lads. I'm off to deliver some holiday treats for the neighbors.
