The Calm After the Storm
The big spruce tree fell in last night's storm, so I've been up surveying the damage and talking to neighbors this morning. I'm just settling in then to enjoy the morning's footer action. I've got Burnley v. West Ham on the box and Leicester v. Newcastle on the phone.
Join me if you're up and around.

Good morning Bob. Sorry to hear about the damage. I just woke up but will be going to breakfast at halftime
Of course, I'm hoping for West Ham and Leicester wins against the two bottom three clubs this morning.
The Brighton v. Spurs match has been postponed due to Covid in the Spuds camp.
Morning, David - thanks. It could have been worse. The tree landed on the neighbors' hedge but otherwise no damage. I'll be on the phone to insurance and the tree removal crew in the morning.
Still 0-0 in both matches
Wishing you the best with the insurance company. They're not always great to deal with
Nick Pope does well to turn around a header from Dioup off a free kick then a header from the corner is inches over as the offside flag was raised
Nick Pooe down for Burnley. Hennessey warming up if he can't continue.
Something was put in his mouth by the physio and he's able to continue
Couple fouled by Charlie Taylor who is booked for that
Sorry Coufal fouled
I'm back with the official brekkies of the LOB - bagel and cuppa of course.
VAR check for a penalty comes to nought. And we play on. Shame.
Still no goals in either match - not great value for the punters on a cold winter morning.
Tielemans has given the Foxes the lead vs the Toon with a spot kick
Come on, you Hammers! Let's have one from this corner.
A trio of stoppage time minutes
Wahay! Youri Tielemans has fired Leicester into the lead over Newcastle. That'll do nicely.
Ben Mee booked for a lunge on Antonio
Free kick headed out by Charlie Taylor. It's 0-0 at the half
Off to breakfast. Should be back for the late match
Cheerio, mate - enjoy your breakfast.
Half-time at Turf Moor - not good enough. I want some Hammers goals in the second half.
It seems that the penalty decision at the KP is a bit controversial. James Maddison was clearly looking for it but Lascelles did bring him down.
The second half is starting up again.
West Ham onto the attack right from the off.
West Ham must score from one of these corners.
Nick Pope is having an exceptionally good match, unfortunately.
So, so far this weekend, the 12th place side (Villa), the 15th place side (Leeds), the 16th place side (Soton), the 17th place side (Watford) and the 20th place side (Norwich) have all lost.
Newcastle, the 19th place side, are currently losing and Burnley are on the rack. We just need a West Ham goal and a draw between Everton and Palace and it will be a weekend where Leeds haven't really lost any ground.
Matty Vydra replaces the ineffectual Chris Wood.
Oh - great run by Masuaku there but his cross just couldn't find Antonio.
Wahay! Patson Daka has added a second goal for Leicester, so that one is just about done and dusted.
Another change for Burnley now - Sam Brownhill about to replace Ashley Westwood.
Antonio tries one from the edge of the box but it's well over the mark.
Sayed Bahnrama comes off to be replaced by Nikola Vlasic. Too bad that David isn't around for the obvious pickle pun.
Burnley have a free kick in an interesting position. They'll bring the big boys up.
Next up for Burnley after this one is a critical relegation dogfight on Wednesday with Watford.
Oh - Bowen was nearly in there but for the key challenge by Ben Mee.
Pablo Fournals comes on for Manuel Lanzini for the last ten minutes.
Youri Tielemans has added a third goal for Leicester, so Newcastle's GD has really suffered today. Lovely.
Oh - Declan Rice with an excellent shot there that almost found the top corner.
Another corner for WH now - come on!
Burnley tried to break there but Rice did really well to track back on Vydra.
Our old LUFC pal Aaron Lennon is on for a late cameo replacing McNeil.
Oh - Charlie Taylor with a great ball across but Jay Rodriguez couldn't quite steer it in. Phew!
Oh - West Ham break again and Jared Bowen has a pop that Nick Pope turns around. Nearly.
Well into stoppage time now.
Oh, lovely! James Maddison has added a fourth against Newcastle.
Oh - Soucek should have scored!
That's it at Turf Moor. Disappointing that Burnley have earned a point. They're up to 11 points and only five points behind us and two points behind Watford who they meet on Wednesday.
Back from breakfast to the sound Dave Clarke's Bad All Over Song
I see that the Foxes thrashed the Toon 4-0. You should be pleased with that
I know you wanted a Hammers win but a draw isn't the worst result in the world.
Not sure who we want to win this match. These two will probably finish pretty close to mid table
They're off from Selhurst Park
Rangers won 0-2 at third placed Hearts to stay top
Celtic one up vs Motherwell in the second half to stay second, four points behind Rangers
Jordan Ayew put through with just Pickford to beat but shot right at his fellow Jordan
Still 0-0 but Palace dominating
I'm back from a refreshing shower for the late one.
Of course, I'm hoping for a draw in this one, which would keep both sides in close proximity from us.
Hi Guys
We had big winds and there are few trees down near but not one of ours
Arlo wanting controversy
Dixon says....it was nothing
Good for him
Gotta go off to the store
No one seems to be around anyway
Talk to you guys later
GOAL ! CONNOR GALLAGHER GIVERS PALACE THE LEAD ON A GRAY DAY FOR THE TOFFEES AS A PASS INTO THE BOX WAS CLEARED AND A MODERN DAY BACKPASS FROM DAMARI GRAY LANDED STRAIGHT TO JORDAN AYEW AND HE PASSED TO GALLAGHER FOR AN EASY TAP IN TO GIVE PALACE THE LEAD
Cheers Dave. After today I will probably next be on the LOB next Sunday
Palace deservedly one up at the half
I'm back at the start of the second half. I was chatting with the tree removal firm at half-time. They're going to come sort it out tomorrow. It's going to cost us $2,300, but hopefully insurance will coverage a thousand of that.
Not happy about that Palace goal. That would move them up to 12th on 19 points.
Still 1-0 and the Toffees seem to have run out of ideas. Rich Arlison replaced by out and out striker , Rich Arlison, and none too happy about it
Hopefully the insurance covers it. It all depends upon your deductible
GOAL ! PALACE GOES TWO UP AND THIS ONE SHOULD BE DONE AND DUSTED
Plain awful defending from the Toffees off the corner from Will Hughes that sailed over everyone and Jamers Thomkins unmarked at the far post from six inches out easily tapped in
The goal is controversial because Zaha fouled Seamus Coleman on t he halfway line off the ball then received the pass then passed his pass led to the corner. If the foul had been called the corner would never have been awarded., The Toffees have every right to feel aggrieved
At the same time the Toffees have themselves top blame as they have yet tp won a quarter almost midway through the second half while Palace have won have a dozen . That's the story off the match and much of the Toffees season
Gray day for the Toffees as the curling free kick from Damari Gray is just over. The closest the Toffees have come to scoring this match.
GOAL ! TOFFEES BACK IN THE MATCH AS RUNNED ON SCORES HIS FIRST GOAL FOR THE TOFFEES. GUAITA SDAVED A SHOT FROM DOUCORRE AND RUNNED ON TAPPED IN THE REBOUND
Now Palace 2 Toffees 1
Anthony "Flash" Gordon laid off a pass for Seamus Coleman and his cross was controlled by Douycourre . His shot was blocked by Joe Ward and broke kindly to Runned who tapped in from a few yards out
A double substitution from Paddy V and both pretty much like for like as Beneteke on for Odd son Eddie while Jeff Schlupp on for Will Hughes
Andros Townsend with a shot blocked for a corner after Joe Ward failed to clear his lines
Corner headed away by the first man
Come on, the Toffees! Get it back to Desmond!
The game is starting to boil over a bit - Andy Madeley has a job to do.
Oh - how did Everton not equalize there?
Nearly Desmond as Guaita made a great save from Anthony Flash Gordon
Have been texting Desmond about the need to arrive at Selhurst Park. I hear it's to get there in a timely manner
That looked naughty by Beteke in on Seamus Coleman mustard but not spicy enough to be booked
Now Guaita is having his hand bandaged. Is this a strategy to stop the Toffees momentum? I hate when teams do this
A quintet of stoppage time minutes
I have been, David - but no answer so far. Deep into stoppage time now.
Mason Holgate called for Teke in on Christian for a late Palace free kick to run time off the clock
Oh what a strike from Connor Gallagher, showing Leeds fans what they missed out on this summer. Voom!
3-1!
GOAL ! GAME, SET , AND MATCH AS IT'S CONNOR GALLAGHER AT THE DOUBLE TO GIVE PALACE A 3-1 LEAD
Oh - Demari Gray with a crisp strike that Guaita was happy to catch.
Toffees guilty of schoolboy defending as Coleman took a free kick near his corner flag to Andre Gomes Addams and had his pocket picked by Gallagher, who then shot a rocket into the upper 90
It's over and the Toffees miserable season continues as Palace defeat them 3-1
Full-time - Everton are in a real spot of bother now, having lost four of the last five. It leaves them languishing in 14th, just two points above us in 15th.
I'm off to do my usual Sunday errands. Thanks for keeping me company today.
Cheerio!
Palace now up to 12th three points ahead of Leeds.
Cheers, Bob. Glad two be part of the chat. I will probably next be on the LOB next Sunday. Have a great week
