Lakenheath Old Boys
We are all former students at Lakenheath High School and other public schools in East Anglia. We were in school in the 70s and 80s and drank deeply from the well of British culture of those decades - the pints, the telly, and of course the footie!

Good morning, Bob.Here to join you on a sunny, but chilly morning. Thanks for getting us started.
Morning boys, I'm getting to the Cup action a wee bit late, due to a late night with the missus and a lie in this morning. I'm watching the Wycombe v. Sunderland match right now. It's a right old ding dong at present at 2-2.
Morning Bob
I have just woken up after having some friends over last night for a nice evening
I have tuned in the match at the Den with the Lions beating the Eagles 1-0 inside the first 30 minutes
Hiya, David - great to have you on board.
Which match are you watching?
ESPN are showing Wycombe Sunderland?
I think that is a League 1 match and not in the Cup
Teesiders two up at Jayne Mansfield at the half.
Good morning Dave. Correct it's a L1 promotion six pointer
I haven't picked a match yet.
There are 6 Cup matches going
Mansfield 0 Boro 2 HT
Bristol C 0 Fulham 0
Burnley 1 Huddersfield 0
Coventry1 Derby 0
Hartlepool 0 Blackpool 1
Miillwall 1 Palace 0
Morning David
Coventry has taken the lead vs the Rams
The is a new color kit for Palace
As for Millwall, didn't they used play in Leicester type blue?
Wonder when they changed?
I'll google it
Good morning, Dave. That L1 promotion six pointer sounds like the match to watch but I won't since it's FA CUP Saturday, the Third Round
Has Palace put out a strong side...it really frustrates me when teams with no worries of relegation STILL put out a weak team
The match at the Evil Den should be a feisty local Derby. Looks like a strong Palace lineup
I was right
Millwall started wearing this dark blue in in the 2010-2011 season
Pompey vs Wigan postponed today in L1
Morning, Dave - oops - well it's a bit of a cracker nonetheless. I suppose I should pick a Cup fixture for the second half.
Pompey match was postponed because Pompey played in the EFL Trophy Final Stage last night at Exeter
They won 3-2 with goals in the 89th and 93rd minute
They play at the Abbey Stadium next
The half time scores:
Mansfield 0 Boro 2
Bristol City 0 Fulham 0
Burnley 1 Huddersfield 0
Coventry 1 Derby 0
Hartlepool 0 Blackpool 1
Millwall 1 Palace 0
I love it that the FA have said to teams that they must play the fixtures.
Chance for the Evil Lions as a Palace defender missed the ball attempting a headed clearance. Terry Bradshaw with a close range shot blocked but flagged offside
Sounds like Pool may play an academy side vs the Shrews tomorrow
Klopp always disses the Cup anyway
Didn't realize the Evil Lions have played a decade in this kit. Great anoraking
Because of Covid and fixture congestion, there are no replays for in the Cup... I don't like it but I think that it will never come back
I agree Dave. Once replays are taken away they don't come back. Too many clubs would start whining about fixture congestion
Palace want a pen...I think he got the ball....he did
This isn't the Prem....no softy pen given
I think you two brought your weather down our way. Second morning in a row waking up to temperatures in the upper teens. Are you all trying to toughen me up?
Half time at the Den
1-0 to the Lions
Evil Lions one up at the half
I can't believe that Palace are going to drop this one to Millwall. In a London Derby as well!
Must be tough for you!!
We are 8 right now!
We got a couple of inches of snow but nothing much Thursday into Friday
I think we are supposed to have freezing rain on Sunday
What is going on with the Millwall goal
What the hell is Butland doing??
SO STUPID!!!!
There's a cold snap throughout the East Coast this weekend. We're used to it here in WNY. It's just Saturday in January.
Palace 71% and then they say Palace has nothing to show for it and Millwall have had much more attacking threats
USELESS STAT!
We haven't had much snow at all
Have you had a lot of the white stuff, Bob?
Showing the City highlights....all the commenters...everything City do....outstanding, really special, quite something
Struth... just saw highlight of City's pen and Swindon's non-pen...WHAT WAS THE DIFFERENCE!!!!
Oh...it was a City player....they must have been fouled
The players are coming back out at the Den for the second half. Millwall 1-0 up so far. No changes.
Off again south of the river
Mansfield get a goal back at home to Boro
We had about a foot of it Thursday night going into Friday morning. Just about enough for a nice workout.
Great goal....that didn't take long for Palace to tie it up
GOAL! Palace are back level. Nice curling effort from Olise.
That's the kind of finish expected from a #7 shirt
That Lake really helps your snow!
I think we have had a couple inches here and there and that is it!
Cambridge Pompey match will be a Round of 16 match
They are talking about if there was VAR it wouldn't count.....there is no reason why that goal shouldn't count
BLOODY VAR
STRUTH....same guy...same post....bounces out this time!!
Oh - Olise nearly curled another in - off the bar!
All we had was an inch the wee hours Monday morning then some in the higher elevations Thursday night, but no e here Thursday night
Hartlepool have come from behind to lead 2-1 at home to Blackpool
I saw the Olise goal. What a cracking finish
Olise almost in again.....defenders...don't let him go left!!!!
Paddy Veira must have rattled some teapots at the half
Oh - Olise bursts into the box again and nearly finds the top corner again. How many chances is he going to get?!
Millwall are all over the place right now. What a sea change at half time!
I think I am going to tune in Newcastle Cambridge first for the 10 o'clockers
I like being able to use 10 o'clockers and it being correct for ALL OF US!
Hartlepool has come from behind to lead the Tangerines 2-1
That sounds like a good choice.
I was thinking of the match from SJP too
GOAL! Palace are in front. Olise chips one up for Mteta to head home. He couldn't miss.
1-2!
Palace have now taken the lead....Olise involved again.....does he play every week?
DON'T LET HIM GO LEFT!!
LOVE not having VAR...you can actually enjoy a goal
I have no confidence that United will beat Villa on Monday
Palace are rampant now - the home side have a half hour to rescue this one.
Nice counter by Palace to come from behind to lead. Olise with quite a second half and great cross for Mateta to head in
David....why don't you have an icon with your comments anymore?
Trivia question...how many teams that play their home games south of the River Thames have been League Champions?
The reason is that I'm blogging on my phone. The icon is on the IMAC which arrives with the movers tomorrow morning.
ahh....that must feel good to get all your stuff!!
I think Pompey is the only club south of the Thames to be League Champions
Corner taken...not in the arc....just follow the rules
Have Southampton never been champions?
Yes it will be an excellent feeling. Thanks to our realtor for going the extra mile and loaning us air mattresses, a few dishes, and even a couple of space heaters.
You are correct!
Pompey won the league in 49 and 50.
A while back there was talk of Chelsea moving to a site near the Battery Power Station....south of the river...I said....let them move!
Saints were runners up in 1974, their best ever League position
What will you unpack first, David?
Sorry 1984. Were relegated in 1974
Wow - that's amazing!
Nope...they've won the Cup but not the league
There have only been 19 cities that have had champions
I'm guessing either close or dishes. Not sure yet
When you think about it, there haven't been a lot of teams who've won the Cup. I was just watching a Cup preview show on YouTube for Leeds fans featuring Dom Matteo and they were showing images of Cup matches past underscoring that we've only won the Cup once in 1972. But there are loads of teams that haven't never won it including these two.
That would be a challenge to name all 19 cities
These twoost to United in their only Cup Finals
Only 24 teams have been winners
https://www.sporcle.com/games/thehappysmith/english-football-championship-cities
I just did it....got them all
Well in, Dave!
I just wonder what it must be like to be a fan of a side that has never won anything - no title, no cups, nothing.
I will look forward to checking the link
Good point, Bob. Those are the true diehard fans
Great stat David
Crazy how Palace make two finals and have to take on United both times
Could have won both too!
I know... hopefully they've enjoyed a promotion at some point!
Wonder if a team has stayed in fourth tier their entire existence
Surely not
Thought you would like that stay Dave. The Lions were thrashed when they played us in the final.
The fourth tier didn't start until 1958. Before that Third Division North and South, so I would guess probably not
As of the 2021–22 season, Exeter City hold the longest tenure in League Two, having last being outside the division in the 2011–12 season when they were relegated from League One
That is weird about Exeter... Bob, you know my Football Table I have on my basement door...Exeter is one that I had to put tape on...it is on top of Wrexham.
So every league team has at least enjoyed a promotion at some point!
Terriers have come from behind to take a late 1-2 lead at Turf Moor.Looks as if Burnley will focus on fighting relegation
Sunderland take a 93rd minute lead
Wow...ding dong at Mansfield
Ended 2-3 to Boro
Huddersfield have come from behind to lead at Turf Moor
Coventry has defeated the Rams 1-0.Wazza can focus on the Rams tough battle to avoid the drop
I ran into a couple of Port Vale fans in LA one January at a British pub that was showing the 3rd Round fixtures. I asked them when was the last time they'd seen Port Vale live on telly and they said, "Oh - it's been more than years!"
Boro won with an OG in the fifth minute of stoppage time. Tough way to exit the Cup
That's lovely - Huddersfield are one local rival team that I don't really hate. I've got a good friend who teachers social studies ed at Virginia tech who's a massive Terriers fan.
Nice one, Bob. Sounds about right for Vale fans
Over at Turf Moor. The Terriers won 1-2. Hartlepool has defeated the Tangerines 2-1
Millwall almost score!!
Another Boatang?
Just missed.
Looks like ET at Ashton Gate as it's 0-0 vs the team from the Cottage. That's not idle gossip
I think it would have been called back for offside with VAR
I am perfectly fine with a goal like that
It's in ET at Ashton Gate. Almost hit of ET there
Sorry. A typo from FOTMOB. A couple of minutes into ET at Ashton Gate
I hate all these blank sections of stadiums left empty
Settling in to enjoy some banana pancakes. Did you know that I eat a banana every day at home? I have for years. I basically a chimpanzee.
How did that not get knocked in!
That's another nail in the coffin for Sean Dyche. I assume that he'll get the sack at some point this season or in the summer.
You'd fit in with Kath....she always has a banana....you two will be fighting over them when you visit next
Chance for the Evil Lions to tie it up.Matt Smith missed his kick in the six yard box and Palace cleared for a corner
Millwall should have equalized there - how did that stay out?
Another chance....header saved
That should do it for the Eagles
I would win - there's no separating me from my bananas. ;-)
All over
Palace on to the fourth round
I am off to the loo and then walkies
I'll be back
Kath is tough cookie!!
Palace win the local Derby late 1-2. Matt Smith had a chance to score late but headed straight to Butland off a nice cross
That's it - Palace have run out 1-2 winners at the Den. They really dug themselves out there in the second half.
Enjoy the walk and look forward to watching the battle of the banana
Still 0-0 at Ashton Gate a few minutes before HT of ET
Harry Wilson gives the Cottagers the lead on the stroke of HT of ET at Ashton Gate
See you in a bit!
We're away in the Newcastle v. cambridge clash now.
They’re halfway through extra time at Ashton Gate, where Harry Wilson has given Fulham the lead in the all Championship FA Cup tie.
It sounds like Cambridge have brought a load of away fans today.
A right old ding dong in L1 as Wycombe vs the Black Cats finished 3-3. Black Cats took a 2-3 lead in the third minute of stoppage time then Wycombe tied it up in the eight minute of stoppage time. Black Cats would have gone top with a win
Huge shout for a penalty there for Newcastle. Ref points for a corner.
That's the one I was watching in the first half. Good match!
Into stoppage time at Ashton Gate. Cottagers still one up
It's over at Ashton Gate. Cottagers win 0-1 in ET
The Foxes take the lead vs the Hornets on Ranieris return to the KP. Tielemans with a spot kick for the cup holders
Boreham Wood have opened the scoring against the Wombles!
Boredom Wood takes the lead vs the Real Dons
Youri Tielemans scores from the spot to give Leicester City a one-goal lead over Watford following a Francisco Sierralta push on Marc Albrighton in the Watford penalty area.
Fulham are into the next round after seeing off Fulham courtesy of a Harry Wilson goal in the 15th minute of extra time.
Cambridge win a corner, took it short then a header from a cross went straight to Dubravka
I'd love to see Cambridge get a result today.
Oh - St. Max had a chance there from the Jacob Murphy cross. Just too much on it.
I am back from a chilly walk
Listened to Talksport....they are going around the grounds
I am have kept it on as I got home
Ipswich two up at Gillingham...I guess the United coach has made a difference
In L1 Tractor Boys two up at the struggling Gils. Accrington Stanley on top vs the Fake Dons
Does the 1988 FA Cup title go with AFC Bournemouth or MK Dons?
Welcome back, Dave. A Chilly start here but sunny and supposed to be in the 40s this afternoon. Should I send some of that mountain air your way
Posh 1 Bristol R 0
Please do
Sadly 1988 Cup win goes with MK.
I know what you are saying about Cambridge winning but I feel bad for the Toon fans....go for a Cup!
Oh - Newcastle are turning to the screw. Joelinton threading a ball through to St. Max but the Frenchman couldn't reach it.
I will send some your way as it's supposed to rain here all day tomorrow. Still much cooler than South Texas
Wonder if those Vale fans are watching ESPN+ as they host Premier League Brentford
Trip playing for Toon...wonder if Continho will play for Villa at OT
Toon's last cup win back in '69?
I'd rather depress the side for the second half of the season. For the same reason, I'm happy that Burnley got knocked out by the Terriers this morning.
Yeah - I remember the final they were in with the Supermac team against Keegan's Liverpool in 1974.
Holding the Bees 0-0. The watching Vale fans must be proud of their side's effort today
People aren't liking Newcastle these days because of their new found money...how is it different than City and Chelsea
Jason Cundy, a Chelsea fan, on Talkpsort was talking about Newcastle ...saying....who are Newcastle...what have they won!
He has a short memory...before the Russian millions...who were Chelsea? Won a league in 55 and a Cup in 70
Oh - St. Max plays in Murphy who tries to curl one into the corner. Well saved by the Cambridge keeper.
That was before my time but heard that the Toon were truly thrashed that day
Good point Dave. Pot, kettle for Chelsea and Cundy.
They did nothing that day....Liverpool crushed them!!
All three goals in the second half
Of course, Newcastle also lost back to back finals against Double winning Arsenal and Treble winning United at the end of last century
Vale have fallen behind
Holders double their lead
The Bees take the lead at Vale
Keegan, Heighway and Keegan with the goals
Watford get a goal back immediately
Also in 1976 lost to Citeh in the LC Final thanks to the bicycle kick from Tueart
Bob was upset for that 74 Cup Final....his lot had made two consecutive finals....he was okay tho.....they won the league
Town THREE up....why can't United score like that
The Fourth President for the Foxes then Joao Pedro for the Hornets
I remember the LC Final in 76
Bristol Rovers tie it up from the spot at the Posh
This is Ranieri's return to the place where he won the Foxes only top flight title
I'm not angry with Newcastle because of the Saudi money - that's the way of the world these days, sadly. I just need them to get relegated rather than us.
Leicester are 2-1 up through James Maddison.
I've just noticed that Kieran Trippier is playing Toon - when did that transfer happen?
I think in Leeds's 1974 title season they lost at home to Bristol City in the Cup
This is Trip's Toon debut. He played for Atletico last Sunday. Transfer or loan deal?
Transfer...12 mil
Brentford are 0-1 up through Marcus Forss against Port Vale.
I did mention it before also asking if Coutinho will start for Villa at OT like Trip here
Yeah - '74 was a magical year for us, although I'm sad that it wasn't with Don Revie. Jimmy Armfield was our manager but it was really still Revie's side.
That could easily have been a penalty for Cambridge - VAR checking it.
Cambridge want a pen.... not given.... VAR to look?
I think it will be a foul outside the box....wimpy way for it to be called
Nothing given....big boys being treated unfairly...again
I thought he was there in 74. When did he leave? I thought Revie would have like to stay to try and win the European Cup.
Cloughie was sacked after 42 days . The Charity Shield match with Bremner and Keegan sent off for punching each other
Toon score...offside
Newcastle have it in the net but it's flagged offside.
Just looked it up
Revie left for England in July 74
Decent save by Cambridge keeper
Revie was appointed England manager after Alf Ramsey was sacked when England failed to reach the 1974 WC after drawing Poland at Wembley.
Cloughie came replaced him but didn't last. Armfield took us to the title and European Cup Final.
We were robbed in the European Cup final by the ref, btw. Should have won that one.
Armfield took you to the European Cup Final after Clough was canned
Still 0-0 at SJP shortly before stoppage time. Well done Cambridge
Revie March 1, 1961- July 4, 1974
Clough July 30, 1974- Sept 12, 1974
Armfield- Oct 4, 1974- June 30, 1978
Jock Stein took over after that....for TWO MONTHS!
I don't remember that!
Oh - Jacob Murphy with a volley brilliantly saved by the Cambridge keeper!
Reading take the lead at Kiddiminster
